    Coming from someone who holds a CDL and has the safety of you, your passengers, and everyone else in mind, when driving a combination vehicle such as the one you're driving here, you DO NOT want to use the trailer brake hand valve (the one you mentioned for if the trailer gets squirrely) while the vehicle is in motion. That's meant strictly for testing the trailer brakes in a controlled setting somewhere off of the road. Using it otherwise could risk a loss of control and subsequent accident.

    • @xnopyt13

      Do US trucks not have ABS on all trailer axles? I know you still use drum brakes (for some backwards reason I'd imagine) and you still have trailer brake controls in cab (EU just has the parking brake lever that you pull down to purge air from all brakes including trailer).
      Also funny thing but I'm pretty sure that freightliner steering wheel is the same one Mercedes used on the Actros MP2, that was released in 2002. Nearly 2 decade old steering wheel on a 2019 truck. I know you don't even have synchronized manuals in trucks (standard for European stuff since the 80's) or discs but how far behind on tech are you guys? Do you even have automated manuals or are those things using a torque converter? They're not using the exhaust brake to shift faster so they're about on par with the ZF stuff (if they're single-clutch autos) that everyone in Europe hates because Scania exists. I think you're way down on power as well since we get 560HP MX13's on DAF trucks (510 is the most you get in the US last I checked) and 770HP V8's because Scania exists.

    In Germany the weight limit for the standard license stops at 3500 kg complete mass of weight. Earlier you could get a slightly bigger license up to 7500kgs mass of weight (My mother has it).
    I would love to drive something like this with my standard license.
    Recently we saw two american immigrants here who moved to Germany, and with them they brought their lifted US Ford F-350. Always a blast seeing it, and it is so out of its usual realm that it takes 3 normal parking spots here. The driver could keep her US license so she can drive it in Germany as well.
    For US trucks I usually like the boxier 2000s truck look, but that Freightliner is surprisingly handsome.
    If you can drive such behemoths, I would love to see you try to find a manual truck somewhere to drive.

    That definitely looks like a great way to travel. you shouldn't have to worry about uphill passes in that, the DD16 engine is an absolute beast, most of those big fleet trucks like Swift are using 400hp 13L engines like the DD13 or something similar so usually suck it up the hills. I'm actually surprised they specced a DD16 in an RV like that, the RV is carrying maybe half the weight of a heavy haul semi that would typically spec a 2000lb ft version of the DD16 or Cummins X15 (or perhaps an old CAT motor)

    You don't want to use the jake brake that heavy in the rain. You could break traction on your drive tires. When going downhill, you need to stab brake more. Brake hard enough to go around 5mph under your target speed, let off and let the truck gradually speed up. Obviously don't drag the brakes when going downhill either, or you can overheat the brakes and have to take a trip on a runaway truck ramp.

    Do you not need a CDL to drive this, if not how do you learn? Pretty sure I’d be shitting myself driving this behemoth!

      Probably 5-6, maybe even closer to 7 but the bigger engine could hurt a little. They’re actually pretty good on fuel.

    Pretty scary that a person with no CDL or experience can legally drive a big motorhome that weighs 40,000+ lbs and has air brakes. Not sure about other states, but in New York even to drive a School bus you need both a Passenger endorsement and an Air Brake endorsement, and for a CDL-A (tractor trailer) you need that endorsement, and of course Air Brake as well, and if you take the road test with an Automatic transmission tractor you will get a CDL-A Restricted license, which means you're only legal to drive an Automatic tractor. At a GCW of 69,000lbs you're not that much under the legal limit of 80,000 without overweight permits, so there really should be License restrictions for that. Not knocking anyone here, but as a long time Heavy Haul/Oversize driver I know the experience level needed to safely operate a tractor trailer regardless of the GCW.

    I mean what's the problem with that car stopping ? maybe he didnt had enough speed to cut ?

  • @SamsungizAmazing
    @SamsungizAmazing 8 місяців тому +1

    Is there a speed limit for trucks in the USA? I’m pretty sure in the UK our trucks are limited to 58mph. I just find it crazy how your rigs look like they are legally allowed to cruise around 70 to 80 mph

    • @Americanspy-hn2kw
      @Americanspy-hn2kw 5 місяців тому +1

      In some parts of some states yes, but you got to realize the US is way bigger than the UK for example one of the biggest states in the US, Texas, is 2.8x bigger than the UK. So it would be impractical to have a low speed limit considering how much ground there is to cover.

    • @darkwing.17
      @darkwing.17 5 місяців тому

      Most states have truck speed limits (especially on west coast states). Some states have trucks use same speed limit as the car speed limit.

    • @richardsvr9586
      @richardsvr9586 5 місяців тому

      In generally 65-80 mph, depends on state. Most east coast states 65 - 70 mph (105 - 113 km/h)

    Jack breaking on a indicator like lever? That's a retarder isn't it?
    In which you shouldn't had used on the rain... retarder act on the gear box which breaks the drive wheels. The thing is, there NO abs for it... so retarder on a wet track can make the wheels lock up and the truck jack knife...
    Don't ask me how I know.
