I definitely did notice clients haven’t been as fussy since the lockdowns. Like even the clients I had that were very high maintenance and very particular about their hair before have become very chilled out

Thank you this video saved me last week with a walk in with box dye on her hair and home bleach on ends. I didnt have a lot of time and it was my first time trying the zig zag sections you do. It turned out good and im going to try foilage the way you do it in the future.

I do a lot of partials just means not complete highlight it can go either way but it looks great you did a great s job
I have learned a lot watching you and I love that you explain in detail why you do the things you do. I do have a question, what is the best way to increase prices? This is something I have always struggled with and I’ve been a hairdresser for 20 years! I’m just so nervous to do it, especially in a time where everyone is complaining about prices going up on things. Products are higher and some things I’m having to order because my supply is out. Just looking for advice🙂
Hello and thank you for the comment! Pricing is so hard I think... I still have some clients who get 2012 pricing 🤦♀️🤦♀️😂😂🤷♀️🤷♀️ but I think it's easier when getting new clients to give then updated pricing... or add like $10 to a color service every 6 months helps too....

Hello! Depending on how dark the root color is and how blonde they want, I'd either apply the root retouch then go thru while it's processing and hi light since the bleach will break thru the color...... if it's dark hair will lighter blonde, probably highlight then retouch around the foils....
@@hairbykristijennings6648 That's how I do it, too. I USUALLY get the retouch on, and then do a teasylage with not as many foils, in this service. I can get it on in 20 and let it process another 25 or so and the touch-up is fully processed at the same time. the tease with the lightener and the base color often makes a really pretty mid-tone, too.

I wish I could go to you 😭 I’ve had the hardest time finding a hair stylist that can do what we agree on. I went to a new stylist a couple weeks ago and I’m so unhappy with my hair. she left me soooooo gold/copper when we talked about her doing what you just did in this video. I wanted level 9 highlights that can be low maintenance only because my hair grows so fast, but I did want to come back regularly to maintain. She left a couple tiger stripes and the highlights were chunky which I didn’t want. I also said I didn’t want the money piece look, but she did it anyway. Also, maybe it’s my skin, but the tone looked almost green. Not to mention, I spent $460. Now, I’m MORE than happy to pay top dollar, but not when the work isn’t good. The stylist I went to before that did really nice work, it looked more blond. But it took over 7 hours and over $700. WHY?! My hair is fine as heck and lifts so easily….! Plus she left the entire middle of my head brown so when my hair moved you see chunks of brown underneath and it doesn’t look good.
I have decided that wanting to be a bright blond is not something I can afford if it’s going to be that much every session. So I decided….. I’m teaching myself to highlight my own hair. Yes. I’ve watched about 40 hours worth of instructional videos on how bleach works, how to foil, how to slice, how to do baby lights, how to saturate, how to avoid already lightened hair pieces, foil placement, how toning works, how to cancel out tones in hair, how to root tap, what brands to use, and I’m going to do it. Your videos are really helpful in showing techniques that create beautiful results. I live in Hawaii so the number of stylists who can do this kind of blond is actually limited. And I’ve gone through a few already. It’s a risk, it’s dangerous to my hair, but I’m going for it. If I lived in your area I would just go to you, but it is what it is. Whoever reads this if you can wish me luck that would be awesome! ☺️
Good luck! And how frustrating! Honestly it's probably more expensive there just cause where it's at, then add blonding specialty on top of it. If you haven't, Instagram is a great place to find people local to you and to figure it what they charge so there's no surprise. But good luck with your own hair, sounds like you've really put thought into it so you should do ok!
@@hairbykristijennings6648 Thank you for your reply!!! I actually went through with it and highlighted my own hair... and I honestly don't remember the last time I loved my hair this much! It turned out so nice! It was really scary but I basically followed the formula that you use and it worked out. I decided to splurge on really nice foils and I think that really helped. They didn't slip around the way I think regular tin foil would have. I also had your videos playing as I worked for inspiration haha. I love your videos and your personality and I think you're one of the best out there! Thank you for your awesome content!!
hey Kristi, I was wondering how long would you normally leave the toner on the hair. I can't manage to find a hairdresser in my area, who can tone my hair properly, so I decided to do it at home. However I always get scared I will turn fully silver so I wash it early and it does leave my hair still very yellow on the top, but the sections in the lower part are a very nice colour, even though they are a bit darker. I would say my hair is level 8-9 and I'm naturally a semi dark brown

this is lovely! this look with brightness around the face and a more rota look on sides and back is very fashionable, but it often seems to be done with a colormelt after foliage; your option is perfect! love it!

When they have a base like that and there's a veil over the highlights, no root smudge is even necessary. I love Kristi's approach.

Hi, as always I love your technique + results! Your explanations are just fine sweety! I know you 2nd guess yourself but it always makes perfect sense. I'd like to try this technique on myself but could use some advice if you've got the time to reply. I have natural level 7 long grow out + I actually like the color but because my natural hair is so so fine + thin I was thinking of using a permanent color in 7N just on my roots + blending it into where I bring up the bleach balayage so that my roots will feel thicker/fuller. Maybe even drag it down in some thick weaves as lowlights for more dimension. I used to get a full head of babylights but now that they've grown out 6 inches it looks like the top half of my hair is stuck to my head + the blonde ends are thick + heavy! I hope you can understand what I mean? Do you think I've got the right idea or do you have any advice on how to do it differently? Thanks a ton, Cathy 💋
Hello! I think that should be a good plan..... level 7 can go pretty warm, so be aware of that and add some ash if you'll not like it too warm. Maybe comb thru the color to the ends to blend it out. Good luck!

Hello! Happy to see you here! I’d say, make sure you’re doing your balayage, foilayage on a diagonal. That will create a natural diffused blend. Weave… back comb and feather into the root. If you still feel like you need a better blend, just do a soft root shadow with a natural level 7-8. And keep practicing and never give up cause we’re all learning together!

i did your express foilyalage. its great. im naturally level 3-4 so i always struggle with warm tones
Hello ! I would say that you have to tone on level. So level 8 won’t do anything to a level 7. Level 6 might be too dark. I’d try 7-1 to start,

Just curious? Why add olaplex to blond me, since it's already built in? I'm genuinely curious as a hairstylist. Is there not enough bonder in it or do you use it as to slow the lightening process down? Or something else completely?
I don't like olaplex, it plus the dye makes my hair dry and stops it growing,

How would you go about a client who has natural hair color that’s never been colored and ask for highlights, area highlights or partial all less then 15 foils? I have lots of clients come in for this but I’ll like to learn different techniques on it. I can’t come across videos upon this request.

I love all these randomly placed highlight videos, but how do you all (professional hairdressers) go about their retouch services? How can you pick up the same pieces and follow a pattern?
Why work from the top down the way. I was always taught to stsrt under and work up the way
Wow, are you in LA?! I need someone to do my hair, the last time I went to a salon I was charged $400 for a botched haircut and less bleach work than this! They charged the full price of a balayage but only touched maybe 1/6 of my hair with bleach and then she cut off over a years worth of length when I asked for a trim.

No way , it’s blends as a balayage cause her client has very light ends already if you don’t have them light ends it would more be a half head foils or a full soft baby light balayage x
Where are you located? I have always tried to set prices based on the area I live in. I live in a more rural, low income area. I'm certain I under charge because i lack confidence and am still building a clientele. At what point do you raise prices? I always felt like I should raise prices as my skill level increases and as I gain a more steady clientele. Your thoughts?
This is what I ask my hairdressers to do and instead, they put way too much on. They always take ages, charge too much and it goes ashy and darker than I want. I had to dye my hair 3 times before my wedding when all they needed to do was 15 bright blonde foils in the right places. My hair is taking ages to grow now, and I don't want to add any more chemicals, time or money when they don't listen to what I ask for, even when I say "golden bright, slightly rose blonde, just a natural look to fix the roots" and show them photo examples of the right colours with highlights.
Golden bright, slightly rose blonde? You def need pictures to explain that.....consultation is where things go awry.
I’ll call this a balayage touch up because the technique and customized placement and charge $200
