Omg, thank you so much. You were so right. I waste so much valuable time taking small sections. I tried this technique on one of my clients & I absolutely love the way it turned out. I will definitely be using this technique again & again! Literally reduced my balayage time by 50%!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I always love the tutorials.. good technique. There’s never a “wrong” way to do it. We called it free hand highlight’s when I was a newbie. The blend is the key…. Using the pattern she uses helps..
You are Amazing!!! Thank you soo much! I appreciate so much of what you said! “ Give ourselves permission to do less!” !!!!!! You could not be MORE RIGHT ON!!! THANK YOU!!! ❤️❤️❤️
love this ! can you please do more of these types of tutorials? i work in a busy fast paced salon and anything that is achievable in a shorter time helps me so much!
Really interested to know what you would use to tone that. That is exactly what color my hair is now ans I can’t figure out how to tone it without darkening it. I was to keep the highlights and the level 7 tone but I feel like every time I tone my hair it makes it darker 😣
This was so helpful! I’m going to try to balayage my own hair at home and this is so much more realistic to what I’ll actually be able to do on myself!
I am forced to gradually abandon the total blonde (the hair suffers a lot)..I was looking for an alternative..and thank you for your lessons!this technique is the simplest of all that I have seen before, and the result is the light naturalness of the blonde...You are an Artist-with a sense of style..simplicity and naturalness!
Hi mam this is sankar I'm from india my humble request can you tell me the blonder mixing ratio and developer 20 vol 30vol or 40vol which one is best for balayage technique 🙏🏻
Hi Dina! You can use lightener to lift to a higher level and tone with many of our cool-toned demi shades: A, VM, SM, B, NUA, VP, SV, PV, and V to name a few. Hope this helps!
I really like your technique! It's just enough, really beautiful! And you're right about not having to do all those micro-sections and mini-slices. This is very helpful! Thanks bunches!
Hi Bree! Thanks for the feedback-- for this particular video, audio was eliminated when there was nothing to share outside of the visual technique. We understand now that it may be off-putting or even confusing to do this, so it won't be done in this way again. Thanks for watching!
Hi, Mazzy! This is just one of many different techniques that give slightly different effects in the result. The purpose of this particular technique is to showcase a time-saving balayage with minimal work but high impact. For more tutorials that show how different placements warrant different results on the same head, check these out: ua-cam.com/video/ZzYg5O-Hv5o/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/bRNjY6nv3Ow/v-deo.html
Great job! I had to give up on being a cosi bc being dx with MS I didn't feel like I could do time consuming color but this is really quick. I may try on my mom for fun. Take care
I am new to kenra lightners (use the demi and perm color exclusively however) is the blue lightner preferable to the clay lightner? Is there any risk of transfer using just the blue? How many levels can we expect to get without foils? Finally is the simply blonde bonder lightner not effective for open air in this technique? 5 million questions later lol
Hi Heather! The choice of lightener is a personal preference depending on the application process. In this video, Lo Wheeler is demonstrating the versatility of the Simply Blonde Blue Powder Lightener and its ability to be used in open-air balayage applications. The Simply Blonde Blue Powder Lightener can lift up to 8 levels of lift and can be used both in foils and balayage applications like this. The mixing ratio can be 1:2 or 1:3 depending on the application and the stylist preferences. The Simply Blonde Clay Lightener can lift up to 7 levels of lift. This lightener is ideal for freehand or balayage techniques and does not require any separation, such as foil, as it creates a natural cast using with Kaolin Clay. The Simply Blonde Beyond Bond Lightener can be used in a freehand application; however, we recommend conducting a thorough consultation to identify which lightener may be best for your client's hair. This lightener is ideal for previously lightened or compromised hair. This product contains the DUALBOND technology, which helps repair and strengthen the inner cuticle while sealing the outer cuticle to be stronger during the lightening process. We recommend using what makes you feel most comfortable in the application process.
The sound has gone missing in some of this all of a sudden as it didn’t use to? Is this look ok for people that wear their hair up a lot too? Or better to add some foils?
Hello! The volume of developer does not allow for "more lift," but it does determine the speed at which the lift happens. We do not recommend using 40vol on real clients with our powdered lighteners-- 10 or 20vol for on-scalp, and 30vol for off-scalp. 10vol, 20vol and 30vol will ultimately get you the same amount of lift, but lower volumes of developer will give you more time if needed and have a more gentle effect on the hair.
Triangular sections on balayage creates dimensions and pop of color. My question is that I'm a stylist myself and just want to use this triangular technique on my own hair. I use 20 vol developer with bleach for control on myself. Will I still have to tone afterwards on my curly hair?
Everyone is different, but with lightener, depending on the developer, you will want to watch the foils until the desired lightness has been achieved before shampooing and toning, etc. We hope this helps!
Hi Manu! Thank you so much for the kind words! We have many videos on balayage that we think you might enjoy-- try searching for "Kenra Balayage" for several on-demand tutorials-- we hope this helps!

Would you use 40 volume to get more lift?
Love it, I do things like that to my own hair and at first I was so afraid to be simple like that but now seeing you it's just gorgeous
How to balayage on level 2 natural hair? It doesnt lift as much as when you start with natural level 4/5 brown hair as in the video.
Triangular sections on balayage creates dimensions and pop of color. My question is that I'm a stylist myself and just want to use this triangular technique on my own hair. I use 20 vol developer with bleach for control on myself. Will I still have to tone afterwards on my curly hair?
