I felt bad about my speed but now I know I am not slow. It takes me 1.5 hour to foil super thick medium leigh hair. Thank you for boosting my professional self esteem:))))
I just happened upon your video while in class today and OMG GIRL you just saved my LIFE!! I have never really been able to do neat foils, fast. They always look so crappy. Your tricks helped me do a mock half head highlight in 45 MINS!!!!! I don’t think I’ve ever been under an hour doing foils. Thank you so much!!!
You can also speed up the weaving process if you weave from the top to the bottom and clip up each foil because this helps the foils lay closer and flatter to the scalp because you’re not piling the foils on top of each previous one.
Omg! I do the gum thing too! That and the beat of the music playing in the salon. I also for some weird reason find myself shampooing to the beat as well. Glad it isn't just me 😂
This is why I won’t go back to hairdressing lol we had 4 apprentices (12 stylist )who would assist with the clipping of the hair and holding the foil in place all we did was weave and apply product it would take us 20 mins full head of foils 10 mins for a half a head out appointments were every half hour. Nice work
@@MrKiwispirit wow, I need to work somewhere like that. Full head’s with tint between make me want to leap off a bridge! 😩 I just knew there was a faster way
i love these videos !! i couldn’t afford jessicated so knowing that you wanted everyone to have a look into your education is amazing !! thank you !! ❤️
love all your videos, v helpfull. can you make one video on strand test, when clients are coming for the first time . I look for it but didn't find any helpful like your price video is superb. Thanks for making.
Do you weave the hair in your foils or do thin slices?? I feel like weaves take more time but I am so scared to do slices even if they are thin because of the fear of looking chunky
When you mentioned parting with the clip, and started with "remember in beauty school" I thought you were gonna say what happened to us. lol. Our school would tell us that it's improper to section with the clips. We got scolded if we got caught doing it lol. So it was beat into us not to do it anymore. So silly lol. I'll try it.
chewing gum is awesome keeps you fresh and smelling good specially after lunch break I'm my own boss and gum is definitely a yes is my studio then again my clients are like family you are giving great advice keep up the amazing work
That was very informative. I always start off super focused then some where along the head I realise I've lost my oomph! And I'm going snail pace. So I may try the gum. Great video thanks. Are those framar foils?
Not sure if you reply to these but i thought i'd give it a shot :) I feel what takes the most time for me because i am a perfectionist is being so worried about the amount of product i put at the root and how close to the root i can go. I hate finishing a full foil and feeling like i can still see a little root because i'm too scared of bleeders! How do you personally have the confidence that the amount of product is right and you're not too close to the root but close enough?
Locking your foils right is a great way! I always say, don’t extend past the foil up top and you should be good! I have a video called secrets of highlighting where I touch on this more!!
Apply the lightner 1/4 in from the root then turn the brush vertical and brush vertically and it’ll distribute the product all the way up but in a way where it won’t bleed out. This is what I’ve always done and i have never had an issue (unless I take too big of sections A too much product over all - lock the foils and the bleach expands so much it comes pouring out. This has deft happened to me on occasion.
Ha fist comment! I have watched you for a long time and I always love your videos and your positivity. Our industry can be a little...... how do I say.... critical of one another and this is never helpful. Thanks for being you and sharing what you have.
How do I do the shadow root but not make it dark once I do my highlights since I had ulta girl do it she never told me what color she use since I don’t like it super dark root
omg yes! chewing gum makes me move quicker. im only a student but i discovered that while doing foils LOL. now, i'd have to try out not taking so much time on folding foils
When do you determine if you should do a full or a partial highlight on clients?? I feel like the salon I work in doesn’t really do partials but it’s something I would want to start doing so that I’m not having to do full highlights all the time. Also what do you typically charge for a partial and a full ? I’m always curious to know others prices as my salons prices are super cheap.
you should definitely offer partials! you should raise your full foil price and then make your partial 2/3 of your old full foil price! you could determine how often kind of just going based off of the clients wants/needs a good rule of thumb is Full, partial, partial, full. it’ll allow you to do more clients that day if you have 2 partials, you’ll make more money because your saving yourself time and still making a decent profit!
I chew gum all the time but it's because of medical condition. I have to chew mint gum to cut down the acidity I get in my mouth. I'm going to pay attention and see if I do that too. Thanks for all the great times. Question, why do you start on top first or do you only do that when doing a partial?
Thank you this was so helpful! Do you have a video on foilyage? My client has a grown out balayage and it's pulling a lot of warm golden tones she wants to be a little bit more on the cooler ashy side but she still wants to look somewhat natural. she also wants a lot more brightness on the Mohawk section. The product I'm using is Wella
3 hours sounds fast?! I've been on the floor for 4 years and I do a highlight/tone/cut/style in like 2.5. I'm happy I'm on track! I thought I was slow 😂
By now you've figured it out, but never choose developer according to how fast you want to be done, but according to what the hair needs. That's usually 1.5-6%, 1.5% for bumping dull level 10 ends, 6% for when you're almost done and you want the last sections to come along a bit faster, and the hair isn't too fine...
Hey there!! I’ve been in the salon for a couple of years, 1 hr is good timing. It takes us 45 minutes-1 and a half hours to foil so you’re pretty good!! 😁💖
Hey Jessi, could you do a review of the best tools you have found for foiling? (I really need better equipment, but I can't afford to buy a bunch and experiment.)
3 hours is typical for me...but one client I have has hair that is 10X as thick and very long. I was 6 +hours and when you have to do a grey retouch then do all the other steps with cutting drying time etc...I just cant seem to get her done any faster. Even charging her my higher price I'm not making enough. I like her but her hair is a challenge darker and very hard to lift as she desires very blonde.
The sound is really bad on this video for some reason. It's hard to understand what they are saying. Maybe it's my phone..is anyone else struggling with the sound? Other than that I really love the content...you all are fantastic. Please try to help sort out the sound because I don't want to miss any of this video. Thank you
How about playing fast music like Pantera, to help speed things up,lol. Seriously thanks for the tips, after not doing color, do to lock down, I do feel like it slowed me.down I'm guilty of wanting every fold perfect. I gonna try the gum tip, from a physiogical stand point it does make sense.
I felt bad about my speed but now I know I am not slow. It takes me 1.5 hour to foil super thick medium leigh hair. Thank you for boosting my professional self esteem:))))
Why fold the ends of the foil at all? It also takes more time when rinsing if they are folded tight also.
I just happened upon your video while in class today and OMG GIRL you just saved my LIFE!! I have never really been able to do neat foils, fast. They always look so crappy. My concern with that is moving the foils up doesn’t it cause them to move away from the root some?
@@couronneehair9935 I wonder this as well!
That might cause stripes as the clip will push on the processing hair.
Sounds like a bleeder waiting to happen
Omg! I do the gum thing too! That and the beat of the music playing in the salon. I also for some weird reason find myself shampooing to the beat as well. Glad it isn't just me 😂
Gum and rhythmic hair baths. ANIMALS!✌
Could you do a video on your parting for lightening services???
Yes I agree!

What?! Wow that is insane ! It seriously took you 20 min to do a full head!!!
@@angelinebiswas7611 yep this is why we had a lot of foil clients for this reason 2 hours full service cut colour and finish
@@MrKiwispirit wow, I need to work somewhere like that. Full head’s with tint between make me want to leap off a bridge! 😩 I just knew there was a faster way
@@AllysseMarie I would leave the tint between for the apprentice to do while I go cut or colour another client.
Then without an apprentice helping you you’d be practically useless

You're absolutely right about the gum chewing. It's been scientifically proven that you are able to stay more focused when you are chewing gum.

How did you do her roots? Did you just tone all over or do a smudge?
