To expain what happened at the end with the scarab, in BW we call it a 'dud' scarab, where a reaver shoots a scarab shot and it tries to connect onto a target, but is unable to. After about 5-6 seconds it will just auto explode dealing no damage if any. We call it a dud scarab~ nice to see a dud scarab even in sc2, cause its hilarious watching the scarab shots fly forever it feels like and then just randomly explode on nothing~
considering the scarab is kinda meant to be a limited lifetime baneling it kinda makes sense when it's not able to connect to its target like because the target is within a clump where the scarab can't pass through or the target got behind some obstacle in time
I love Broodwar strats being used in SC2. I remember some SC1+2 show matches and would love to see that come back so we can see reaver drops with warp prisms
Those Reavers are insane, they dealt like 50% total damage of the zerg army in last game! i feel like toss players would win more if they made more of them, they work so much better than distruptor and colosus
The big limitation of Reavers in both bw and sc2 is having to cart them around in Shuttles is a pain in the ass. You don't just pop them in to reposition or dodge shots, you have to pop them in to just move one screen across.
I do really enjoy these SC Evo casts. I played MUCH more Broodwar when I was young than I ever played SC2. I hope they continue to very carefully make balance adjustments while pulling Broodwar into the SC2 engine. Hopeful to see more pro player games on this mod 🤞🏼
Looks like SC2 zerg has hard time dealing with shuttles due to lack of AA. Ultralisks can be counter to protoss, but reavers or mass archons counter them. Btw it is strange that SC2 lurkers outrange reavers.
@@airbournestrike queens have low dps and slow speed. They are designed to scare harassment units away, not to kill thins quickly (unlike SC1 hydras and scourges). They can deal with fragile oracles but reavers+shuttles murder them.
Archons counter SC2 Ultras? IIRC don’t SC2 Archons do more damage vs Ultras and still lose? (30-something vs bio) Or is it because SC1 Protoss have better dps units for the archons to tank for? I get the Reaver harass thing though. Those things devastate mineral lines and their defenses, and Spore Crawlers aren’t really good aa.

Protoss designed the reaver in order to colonize zerg worlds. I think that's from the broodwar campaign or maybe from somewhere else but it stuck to my mind.

I don't know if this mod is particularly well-balanced or not at the professional level, but I quite like it. In fact, I'd even say I've enjoyed your videos way more than the SC2 matches. TWO TIMES!", but this time it feels like a lot more people are commenting on their enjoyment of the video itself. I think that is quite something!
sc2 factions have a clear economic/macro advantage along with more options/units to the BW factions ... soooo while i don't want to immediately say that SC: Evolution is unbalanced playing a BW counterpart of a faction imho does put you in a disadvantage ... it feels like with the BW faction you may have to defeat your opponent rather early ... at least with the current version ...

I remember in the BW, the scraps act like the spider mine, that rush to nearby enemy, wait for like 1 sec, then explode. In this version the scraps looks like a very powerful projectile, and is big improvement over the BW version. but anyway, the improved game mechanism really helps the reaver to become a powerful unit, especially with a transport
I really hope this mod ends up being popular. The animations for BW Protoss look so much better in this than a lot of the SC2 Protoss animations. Psionic Storm looks sick in this.
I'm thinking it might be due to the SC1 units (besides the campaign units) being added into SC2 later than the original SC2 units? Though I'm not sure if the modders had to make new models for units like Reavers that I'm not sure is even in the campaign (while dragoons were already in the game, just not used to MP).
For those who are curious about the graphics of the Reaver, it produces what is called Scarabs, the things that explode. The Reaver is meant to look like the real life Larvae of a real life Scarab.

In sc1, the templar energy upgrade doesn't give you enough energy to cast storm on spawn. Templars spawn eith 50 + 12.5 with the upgrade, and storm is 75.
You're right, arbiter stasis field does not affect ultralisks. I didn't know that Also just for fun I checked if a mind controlled worker gives you 200 more supply. And as a figured, it sadly does not. Still loving this mod though!
I’m surprised I didn’t see any Corsairs for Protoss or HT drops. Also Reaver drops should be followed by increase in drops. Like more drops with zealots mixed in with reavers or high templars to kill workers and prevent Zerg from becoming a threat.
The amount of Zerg murdered by Reavers this series is insane, particularly the last game. And then Lowko wonders why he'd transition to Mutas, when he's been losing the game to Reavers 🤔 Though the Dark Archons alone would be bad enough! Miracle it wasn't a clean-sweep.
Sad to always be reminded as a Protoss, and Zerg, what we have lost. And how Terran gain. Maybe add research to queens to fly again, dark archon for toss. Remove all but command center and orbitals to fly and ghost emp nerf to shields to either have shields or 2 to 3 sec removal before they restore to what they were before the emp not complete removal of shields which make no sense.
i do think that the more powerful storm of bw:protoss is needed because toss lacks splash compared to sc2. a reasonable nerf could be less duration on the maelstrom since it reeeeeeally lasts for ages.. maybe put it down from 7.5sek to like 6? on the other hand it just works on non-mechanic units, which is powerful in pvz of course but lacks in power in pvp and pvt
Reavers > Disruptors. Not even close. Another possible mod tho I dont know how they would do it, is to combine SC1 roster with SC2 roster and give the player to customize it like in the campaign.

One possible answer to SC2 Ultras is to Stasis the units around it. Ultras are melee units, and can't move forwards if you've made a wall of ice cubes

Rex lack of creeps spread in the early game maked it wieird to watch coming from an SC2 player 😁.

Brood war toss mind control Ultralisk that's about the only counter besides arbiter clocking ground units with Scouts for overseer detection denial.
