    This channel has been SUCH a blessing to me.. teaching me so much. The priests are so humble… so loving.. yet so truthful. I sense Christ when I listen to every single one of them. What a blessing.. May your channel continue to be fruitful and bless and encourage and instruct many. To God be the glory. Pray for me a sinner. 🙏🏼☦️

    I can't imagine not fasting..
    Especially during the Great Fasts of the Church.
    I've never felt more sanctified than I felt during Great Lent, Pascha and Holy Week.
    Fasting is hard because the devil knows how powerful it is, much like keeping a prayer rule.
    Do not be afraid to push yourself hard during the great fasts, it will change you in many positive ways, and bring you closer to God.
    May The Lord bless us all and have mercy upon us 🙏

    Hi Roots of Orthodoxy,
    I’ve been watching and commenting for a while, but realized I haven’t subscribed. I just did. Thank you for making these videos, I’ve learned very much. I don’t plan to become Eastern Orthodox, but I really appreciate you helping Protestants like me understand the doctrines and practices better. And I hope my comments come across as helpful and not disrespectful. Much grace and peace. 🙏🏻

    I’m new to Orthodoxy. I wouldn’t say that I am but I am heavily studying it here recently and finding a lot of interesting information. I’ve begun to prostrate every hour a few times to keep myself disciplined but also active throughout my work hours. I grew up Baptist, then Non-denominational and now just searching for the truth. If anyone has any suggestions or tips please let me know! God bless I love you all!

    Why is it that the Greek churches in America hardly ever do prostrations? I didn’t even know how to do a metania or prostration until I started attending a Russian parish.

    • @Gibbstronic
      @Gibbstronic 29 днів тому +8

      @@Gibbstronicwow, ok. That must be a ‘unicorn’ parish that you’re in because most GOA parishes I’ve been to have pews, so I don’t see how one can regularly do prostrations in a church with pews. The latter is the major issue with the Greek parishes, they’ve become very Westernized especially in the diaspora.

    • @user-oh3tl7je1q
      @user-oh3tl7je1q 29 днів тому

      By the way, pews are even a novelty in Roman Catholic Churches. Go to any cathedral in Europe and you’ll only see some chairs set up but not a pew in sight.

    • @Nich011
      @Nich011 28 днів тому +2

      @@user-oh3tl7je1q i don't think i can see that as an "issue" whatsoever. The church is catholic, and you are going to find many different cultural manifestations. In the end, i understand what matters most is union of faith and doctrine, and if the churches are teaching the true, orthodox faith, i don't see why having a bigger or a smaller emphasis on prostrations should be a big problem. If one wants more prostrations, he can always look for a parish with more prostrations, vice versa. Not being authoritative, though, i could be wrong.

    • @user-oh3tl7je1q
      @user-oh3tl7je1q 28 днів тому +2

      @@Nich011no, this is not a doctrinal issue, but one of orthopraxy. Prostrations are not a cultural manifestation, they are an integral part of the entire Orthodox Church, no matter what the jurisdiction is. The last time I visited Greece, I saw lots of people doing metania and prostrations in the monasteries and churches. It’s unfortunate that these parishes have pews because like Fr Seraphim was saying, it’s impossible to do a prostration while in a pew.

      If someone is Orthodox, then they probably should already know that Economia exists for these things. If they don't know then they should ask. But if one already knows, then when one hears an Orthodox priest say something is critical, that individual should already have inserted the part that isn't being said, i.e.: "yes, for people who can't do XYZ, there are other things". We all do this all the time with other aspects of communication, it's ok to do that here within reason too.
