My views changed after the Rafah attack that made me curious and investigated the history myself and asking around online. What I've seen and read really shocked me and sort of embarrassed myself. I am very glad that the Bishop had the experience he did, but as the Palestinian bus driver and tour guide warned him that is not normal. Normal is that it is Gaza that is the apartheid state, a state in which Jews and many others are not only treated as second class citizens but will be killed for not accepting the false "prophet". Why are people really starving in Gaza? The truth is that Israel is letting in all the aid it possibly can but what is supposed to be free to the people of Gaza, is taken by Hamas and other Islamists and sold to the people of Gaza. Before October 7th there was a relaxing of the rules allowing more Arab Palestinians to go and work in Israel - but this was exploited by Hamas as well as the holes they made in the fence to get out and kill the more friendly and giving of the Israelis. Sorry, Emmaus is not in the Gaza strip. Either it is the abandoned Palestinian village, Amwas (near Latrun) at a distance of 160 stadia from Jerusalem or it is Abu Ghosh, where i live, at a distance of about 60 stadia from Jerusalem. I believe it is the latter. But Gaza is much much too far. With all respect.

If we refer to the gospel of Luke (the only evangelist who speaks of Emmaus) then it should have been closer to Jerusalem... but Luke was born and raised in Antioch, not in Galilee, he never knew Jesus, and he wrote his gospel in 70/80 AD. Flavius Josephus placed Emmaus much further from Geruralem, and moreover in those times in the Greek language, stadiums were used as units of measurement, but no one knows exactly how much a stadium corresponded to.

I am very glad that the Bishop had the experience he did, but as the Palestinian bus driver and tour guide warned him that is not normal. Normal is that it is Gaza that is the apartheid state, a state in which Jews and many others are not only treated as second class citizens but will be killed for not accepting the false "prophet".
Why are people really starving in Gaza? The truth is that Israel is letting in all the aid it possibly can but what is supposed to be free to the people of Gaza, is taken by Hamas and other Islamists and sold to the people of Gaza.
Before October 7th there was a relaxing of the rules allowing more Arab Palestinians to go and work in Israel - but this was exploited by Hamas as well as the holes they made in the fence to get out and kill the more friendly and giving of the Israelis.

Sorry, Emmaus is not in the Gaza strip. Either it is the abandoned Palestinian village, Amwas (near Latrun) at a distance of 160 stadia from Jerusalem or it is Abu Ghosh, where i live, at a distance of about 60 stadia from Jerusalem. I believe it is the latter. But Gaza is much much too far. With all respect.

in reality no one knows exactly where Emmaus was. If we refer to the gospel of Luke (the only evangelist who speaks of Emmaus) then it should have been closer to Jerusalem... but Luke was born and raised in Antioch, not in Galilee, he never knew Jesus, and he wrote his gospel in 70/80 AD.
Flavius Josephus placed Emmaus much further from Geruralem, and moreover in those times in the Greek language, stadiums were used as units of measurement, but no one knows exactly how much a stadium corresponded to.
