- I wish I would have known what I am about to tell you. I made a big mistake buying this camper and let me tell you why. If you are looking to buy a camper or Toy Hauler watch this first. In today's video I share with you things you should avoid and things you should look for before buying a camper or toy hauler.

To load and unload your bike, raise up the front of the camper with the tongue jack. It will help reduce the angle. Also, when backing the bike out, put it in gear, not running, and use your clutch as a brake. That works better than sliding down the ramp.
I do, I raise it all the way up in front with 10 camaco blocks under the tounge. It looks and feels sketchy but it works better. I made a ramp to put my ramp on too, but I hated carrying it around in the back of my truck. Someone needs to make a toy hauler with a hinged ramp extension, that extends out 2 or 3 feet taking some of the steepness out of the ramp.
I think it would be a great seller for people that tow big bikes. It seems strange that a camping manufacturer hasn't did a collab with Harley for an HD Edition Toy Hauler.
I'd buy one, or better yet a Traveling Tall Edition Toy Hauler 👍
@TravelingTall they need a toy hauler that has a lift gate like a NASCAR hauler. Where the whole ramp goes down flat against the ground.

Tall, do yourself a BIG FAVOR and over buy on your tow vehicle. I had a Kodiak 279 RBSL which weighed 6700 lbs. Everything was GREAT, our 2012 Ram 2500 Cummins was an overkill tower for that trailer. We decided to upgrade to an East to West 321 RL-OK 5th wheel which weighs around 13,500 loaded out, and this was exactly what the tow rating was for our Ram 2500. So, we moved up to a 2022 Ram Laramie 3500 dually. This truck is rated at 19,600 lbs of towing capacity. Now we can roll down the road with ease in any condition. Moral to the story, buy a much truck you can afford and get a much towing capacity as you can. You never know when the "Rig Upgrade" bug will overwhelm you and when it does, you already own a tow truck that will meet your future needs. There is very little fuel consumption difference between the old 2500 and my new 3500. At age 64, I have a truck that could well be my last! Good Luck, it never pays to scrimp on your truck purchase!!!

5th wheel toy hauler, ours has the garage which separates the bike's from the living area, also keeps the dirt out, we also have a diesel truck fuel cost more but, plenty of power. I would suggest one with two air conditioners

Of course budget is a major consideration, but for you, being 6ft 6 inches tall my suggestion would be a 3500 with a fifth wheel toy hauler. It;s all about how comfortable you are pulling a trailer that is 44 ft long. But you will be able to bring both slides with you instead of just one.
Late last year, I picked up a slightly used bumper-pull 2022 Cruiser RV MPG 2700TH (32' outside length, probably ~2700 inside length (thus, the 2700th model name). It's a toy hauler and can take one of my Harley's (I have a Road Glide and a Heritage 114). The ramp is too steep for my comfort as well. What I have done is buy an 8' aluminum ramp. I drop the RV ramp onto jack stands (could use cinder blocks, too, I guess), then I put the aluminum ramp onto the RV ramp, to be a ramp extension. I ratchet strap the aluminum ramp to the toy hauler structure. Now, the ramp in twice as long and a MUCH shallower angle. I now have no concerns with putting the bike in nor with backing it out. It does take more time to rig up, but I'm willing to do that. Anyway, just a suggestion.
We camped this past weekend with the Heritage in the back, and weighed the rig on a CAT Scale (6900 trailer weight, 14460 Gross weight (including '03 Silverado 1500HD)... The trailer has 4400-lb axles, BTW, so the 6900-lb trailer weight is easily within spec for the axles, and will also be with the 150-lb-heavier Road Glide))). The 1500HD chassis is easily up to the task of pulling this rig. However, the V8 struggles. So, my wife and I have decided that we're going to buy a 3/4-ton truck later this year, to have a better tow vehicle, and to give us the opportunity to grow into a larger fifth wheel if we choose to do so in the future. All of that to say that I agree with your comments on getting an appropriate tow vehicle. I'd also add that it's smart to look ahead, when buying a tow truck, to make sure that you don't limit yourself in the future.

I’d be happy with that camper that’s about the budget I’d be in the market for . The problem with the rv market it goes from affordable to crazy expensive. Just gotta do the math 25k for a trailer is a lot of hotel rooms bumping up to 45k is enough hotel rooms or cabins at the campgrounds. Campground rates are getting over $100 a night factor in the payment or cost of the trailer then dragging it around cost of fuel is rather take the open motorcycle trailer and get the cabin at the campground

That’s why I upgraded to a dually last year and as far as toy haulers go there isn’t a company around that can compete with ATC
I bought a 2021 Grey Wolf 26MBRR that I tow with a 2020 Ford F150 XLT Crewcab FX4 with a trailer towing pkg. Trailer measures 36ft long, Empty it weighs 5400# installed a WDH hitch. Its a toyhauler that holds a 2019 Rzr 900 TRAIL 50, 1250#... Full enclosed bath, enclosed front queen bed... Two doors - one opens to the living room/ one door opens to the front bedroom. Cabin space is 30ft long. Michigan to Black Hills and North Dakota and back - 9.2mpg... 5.0 "Coyote V8", 10sp tranny, 3.55 rears
I have camped since 6 years old and when I started bringing my bike I had a 2001 F+350 with a 7.3 engine and had a 43ft toy hauler with 3 slides and from Knoxville to Cody Wyoming got 12 to 14 miles a gallon.i know it's big but I had 12 ft garage and could haul 2 full dressers and had a full living area.
As an offroad capable trailer, my guess is a n adventure bike or dirt bike would be no problem loading and unloading. Good information
So I’ve been Rv camping for awhile with toy haulers and used 5th wheel TH primarily. My last was a 42’ Grand Design Solitude 374 and pulled it with a 2019 F-350 dually CC with the 6.8. worked great. Average about 13 mpg at 68 to 70 mph. I personally wouldn’t use anything less than a 2500 with a diesel no matter what brand truck you like just because of the torque you get while pulling but with a 5er a dually dose the trick.. A 2500 will work for any other toy hauler that’s a bumper pull and for some 5er but you have to remember the bigger rigs the stability of 6 wheels will alway be better than 4. Good luck in your next purchase and remember all those lesson learned
Go with the 30 foot class A RV and tow your truck behind or your trailer with the motorcycles.

My toyhauller is 35 feet long. It has a separate garage, opposing slides and front bedroom. It will max out a half ton truck at bit has a 1,200 tongue and 10,000 loaded camper weight.
I love my camper and have never understood why people with big bikes buy small campers.
I can get two full dress Harleys in my camper and still have room.

My family and I were looking at that toy hauler...we love that particular toy hauler.....you're 100%correct that the drings and your gally style kitchen, pantry and bathroom are all placed incorrectly. But we'd still buy it and manage(upgrade to our own liking).

🤣🤣🤣 Bruh. You ain't never lied. Especially that bed and bathroom. We are thinking of getting a Class C and a matching enclosed trailer for the bike. There is no need to get a bigger trailer. If we do that, we would have to get a 2500 truck.
You can build your own camper out of a cargo trailer and make it exactly how you want it to be
Being that you are 6’6”, and obviously you will be getting a bigger rv, my 2 suggestions would be one with the curved ceiling. I have the curved one in my Outback and you could stand in there easily. The second thing is that it seems like you have what’s called an rv queen bed. They are the same width as a queen but not as long. My Outback is full queen. Love all your vids man. ✌️

I hope that you look at the Thor Outlaw r.v. They look pretty awesome. I looked at one about six years ago and really liked it. Being six foot three inches the shower was a bit small. I ended up not buying it though. Decided to try tent camping. Been doing the tent thing for four years now. See ya in June.

If you have the money, the best thing is to buy a driving R.V.And pull an enclosed trailer behind you with your bikes and all your camping stuff
They do make a R.V. that is a toy hauler. They are made by Thor and Newmar.

When you come down the ramp, put the motorcycle in first gear and use the clutch open and close the clutch and use the rear wheel for brake
Things are obviously different here in the UK where nothing is really more than a day’s travel away, but I did the sums a long time ago and realised that for the price of a camper and tow vehicle, I can stay in a lot of reasonable hotels for any trips I want to do. Obviously different if you have family with you though. I also have to factor in the cost of storage. Storing a rig your size for the time is not being used is probably the cost of a couple of weeks in a hotel!

TravelingTall get a bigger pull behind enclosed trailer and convert it over to a camper would be lot less expense wise. Thats what im doing for next year events

Yeah that rig is too small for you. You need to upgrade to a 5th wheel toy hauler and upgrade to diesel truck. The 5th wheel will give you more headroom and typically a king size bed, and bigger bathroom. Your mileage and tow capacity will increase with a diesel and diesel trucks hold value better than gas trucks. Hope you find a better suited rig on your next one, sounds like you know what to look for now. I think we all make the same mistakes when we buy the first one.
Check out the ATC toy hauler/campers. From my research it seems to be the camper that would best serve my needs. All depends on what your needs are and the camping lifestyle you are looking for.
I had similiar results with Freedom Express Blast 17 but I tow with a midsize and only in Florida. Patio was great, living room not very comfortable, LOUD A/C when it didn't freeze and front bed nightmare. Comfortable for one average size traveler in mild climate
This may not be necessary for you anymore, but we rented a bumper pull trailer on Outdoorsy/RV Share. That was a way for us to know what we wanted and needed when the time came that we could buy our own.
Thank you! I was really interested in your thoughts on the small toy hauler. It's a shame... the size is perfect, and that a 1/2 ton truck can tow it is nice. However, it seems the interior execution is an epic fail. It looks like there is no other option than to get a super duty and small 5th wheel.
Two-foot-itis
It's pretty common in the RV industry.
You're going to want to slow down and take your time measuring, weighing, evaluating, and calculating your needs/limits before moving toward the next RV. Now that you've lived in it for a bit and discovered what you like/dislike, it's time to create a shopping list of features you need in the next unit. There are very few "good" brands out there (and among those, some are suspect with regards to their frames since COVID).
In Travel Trailers, I tend to like Grand Design. But, only for their non-Toy Hauler models
Toy Haulers give you MUCH more usable space in the 5th-wheel line-up. Likewise, they give you dedicated space for your "toys". But, 5'ers come with a cost - they need a MUCH Bigger truck than you have. So, go straight to the 1-ton dually lineup and skip the 3/4 ton trucks. You'll have the power to climb the mountains and safely pull most everything you can hook up to it. There are a few brands that may push your payload (depending on your cab configuration and model 5'er). But, they are definitely worth a look. DRV, Brinkley (I like the G3950), Luxe, and New Horizons. Those are well-made and come with the creature-comforts you and your wife will appreciate. Again, they will take far more truck than you have today. And your truck will likely not find you a good unit with quality build as quality weighs more.

Your camper does serve a purpose. Since it's capable of going off road people who have ADV, and dirt bikes would have no problem loading in that camper since ground clearance isn't an issue. Also, people like to camp on BLM land out west so your camper would be great for that also.
I follow RVing with Andrew Steele and if I was to get a motorhome, it would have to be a Super C or a Class A, diesel only. Manufacturers, Country Coach.....Beaver.....Tiffin.....Renegade.....Newmar.......not necessarily in that order but you just have to narrow it down to what you prefer.......pretty my like house hunting 😆

You should buy a 250 (3/4 ton) I tow a 28 foot trailer with a diesel ford 250 the gas difference is minimal compare to towing with a 1/2 ton

Leave the bike in gear when backing out the trailer. Use the clutch to roll out and release it to slow/stop as needed. I want the 22RR or 27RR for more room and the drop down beds for separate sleeping in the garage. It's been on my wish list for a few years now. The 18 is definitely too small. The off road package will be good for going off the beaten path to do some boondocking. The model i was looking at also has a murphy bed.
I just need one a little bit longer like a 24 foot bumper to hitch. My next one will not be lifted. Thanks for the advice.
F350 dually four-wheel drive v 10 triton with a manual transmission will tow anything like it's not even behind you.

Off road package for campers are mostly for people that ATV ride and do mountain riding and camping not street like you , yelp the salesman shouldn't have sold you that camper knowing you didn't know that .We all make mistakes and learn the hard way , i sure made many and still do lol , I've been living off grid RV life the last 5 years .

I don't think I'd want to tow a toy hauler with anything less than a 2500.
But the thing of it is you buy a bigger camper. And you're gonna have to get a bigger truck or the bigger camper will be too much for that 1500.

I got retired Army family members that said, they spent so much time in a tent when they was deployed that the never want to stay in a tent or camper again. It's hotels only for them.
@@TravelingTall I still tent camped after the Army. My son was in scouting and made Eagle Scout. I stayed involved as a father should do and went on most of their camping trips. Proud he made Eagle Scout, only 4% make the rank, and even less for black boys. It was worth going back to the "field". But I'm with your family, a hotel is my first choice.

Seems you wanted a different toyhauler all together, you should had known about the bed before buying it, most if not all toyhaulers are not designed to be used with the toys in them, meaning you have to take the bike, ATV golf car out before using the toyhauler this little toyhauler at that price range and towing capacity is for certain demographics. Does not mean is a bad rig it does exactly what was designed for, not point on knocking it for that, if you have the budget and your truck can tow a bigger more luxury toyhauler then go for it, only thing this proves is ppl find the right color blue but complains about that is not the right tone.
Wife and I did the same thing with our first trailer as u did, and learned we needed bigger and a walk around bed. Fortunately our trailer we bought used, it’s a 2009 Weekend Warrior 25FS which is 25’ long. It towed ok with my 2004 Ram 1500 5.7hemi, but ate gas like 8mpg. We have a 2017 HD Tri-Glide which weights 1200lbs, and we also upgraded our truck to a 2016 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins. Now I am getting anywhere from 10-15mpg towing with the same trailer. The trailer I want is the same lay out as Professional Monkey here is a video ua-cam.com/video/xWlIEWTvBNY/v-deo.html which has plenty of room and u can leave the bikes in the trailer and still use the trailer. The trailer I am looking at is Forest River Stealth 3016G or an 3030SLT with a kitchen slide and a ward slide. Also the dove tail on the trailer helps with loading, but for my Trike and current trailer, I had to pick up racing ramps so I didn’t drag my pipes (that might change with a dove tail trailer), but I will always uses the ramps which don’t weigh much. Cost wise, unless you are camping most of the year, it is much more affordable to stay in a hotel. After paying for a new truck and camper plus insurance and gas and everything else needed to camp, you're looking at what? $150,000? ! 😲 Nice video though, you make excellent points.

We have a 27RR. Installed biker bars & do not have to worry about strapping down. Also built an extension on the ramp to make loading & unloading the Harley’s much easier.
I love motorcycling and camping so I have watched alot of both types of UA-cam channels. I agree with some that have posted comments about the expense of camping and no you dont save money by camping but when my wife and I travel we get to sleep in our bed and I know who slept in it last and who cleaned the place. With that said it has been my experience that you will buy 3 campers to get the right one. The trick is to make #2 your #3. (The best is to make #1 your #3, but you are already past that. LOL) Now you know what you don't like take some time and find the one that checks the most boxes of likes for you. They all compromise somewhere, there is no perfect rv but there is one that will work the best for you.
Now, when it comes to tow truck... there is no such thing as "to much" truck but there is such a thing as not enough truck. Please go with at lease one size up from what will technically tow the RV. Plus you will probably end up buying at least one more rv before you are done so go ahead and upgrade to the largest tow vehicle you think you could ever possibly need. Trucks ain't getting any cheaper.
Ask me how I know this. I just purchased rv #3. A Brinkley G3500 and we both love it. I have also had not enough truck! That was the worst mistake ever made and one that I will never make again.
I don't know if you bought this trailer because of the price or whatever reason, that is definitely not the one for you or anyone over 5'10". Check out brinkley trailers
Minimum 1500 tow vehicle would be GM Max Trailering Duramax or 6.2 but 6.2 is premium fuel.
In 2022 went from OH to Daytona in a GMC 6.2 towing 6500 lb tow hauler getting mid 7 mpg less than 200 miles per tank, last month I bought a new Ram 3500 Cummins HO
Unfortunately new toy haulers are designed more for ATVs not Harleys.

Im curious also about getting into camping. However, ive never neen camping, but i kinda bought my old Suburban with camping in mind. I will use the Suburban as a cheap camper and tow hauler as well as a daily driver. After doing research about them, i realized they were absolutely beast and really affordable to purchase. I bought my classic 05 Burb Z71 4x4 for just $2,300 and all i did to it was put on new tires,oil change and front brakes in 2 years of owner ship.

You can't have too much truck! Got a 2500 Duramax can tow whatever I want. If you want a 42ft grand design you need a Dualit but for 90 percent a 2500 will do. Same Duramax either way.
I've had the same experience with loading my ultra onto my toy hauler. Angle was not right and going up ramp caught bottom of bike. The toy hauler you bought was for offroad. Probably used for offroad bikes which are taller. Well we live and learn. Thanks for your honesty. Wheels down brother.
In 2002 we bought a 23' Toyhauler, we had 3 quads that would fit really tight, and if we would pull in an RV camp ground, we would have to take uot the quads in order to sleep inside, finally my kids grew up, and my wife and I bought us a class c rv.

Did you do measurements and research your Gray Wolf Black Label before you purchased it? Being 6'6" is definitely a good reason to do so.
Appears to be a nice toy hauler. Unfortunately, campers aren't made for large people. If you need to be comfortable, save your pennies. You need a house on wheels.
Go with a 3/4 ton minimum (diesel preferred) and look at ATC. It’ll be your last TT purchase.
The 3.0 duramax is really not the motor to go with. Should just get the 6.6 duramax. It’s nigh and day

I would have to seriously calculate the expense of an RV, gas cost, insurance, pain of parking, city driving, emptying toilet, vs what I would spend hauling a lightweight, two bike trailer and staying in hotels. Also, I enjoy truck camping using a reasonably sized tent etc. Huge investment and expense to go the full on large RV thing but if that's your jam. I have memories of my stepdad purchasing a Winnebago and dragging us along on trips. Mostly bad.
Yes, you do spend a lot for how little we use it but, if it had the things that I needed we would use it more. At least I think I would, I enjoy camping.
to get a camper with all the things you want/need you'll need a bigger truck also. RV prices are crazy high, even for a small class C you can expect 100K or more
The prices are insane right now especially a diesel.
As far as your ramp being to steep, you could purchase ramp extensions from Summit Racing. My wife's Harley is lowered and we had the same issues. We purchased the ramps and it pretty much solved our ramp issues.
