    Great job Todd getting the flex you need in the knee. Sounds like your recovery is doing great keep up the great work.

      Yes, the knee seems to bend a little more every day now. What I need to work on now is endurance. I have to go to town this afternoon for a dental appointment and plan to take a walk in town after that.

    I'm glad to hear that you aren't experiencing any unbearable pain, i'm sure it will dissipate as the healing process progresses.

      I am glad too. At present what I feel is more of an ache and tightness, but more walking seems to help.

    I know this is an old post, but I am going in for a total knee replacement on October 24th. I'm not going to lie, I was a little scared about having this surgery. I watched your first video of 3 days post-op, and I was encouraged. I've talked to several people who have had this surgery, and they had me very afraid of having it. They told me how painful it was, and I definitely need to take the pain meds the doctor will prescribe, 6:19 and 2 hours after that, take tylenol. They also said that physical therapy killed them. After watching your videos, I'm confident that I can handle it, I also have a high tolerance to pain. Thank you for sharing your story.

      You are very welcome. I am glad my video reassured you. I hope your surgery and recovery go very well. Keep up on your pain pills even if you feel you don't need them. I made the mistake early on of stopping the pain pills too soon. You pay for that. If you go to my UA-cam page there is a playlist with all my recovery videos in it. They start just before surgery. Those videos tell the full story of my recovery. The videos are not in chronological order, but you can scroll through them and find the correct order. I am now 7.5 months out. My k nee is not perfect, but I did go for a 1.5 mile walk yesterday with no issues and I kept up a good pace for the entire walk. The joint was pain free, but I am still having muscle issues and swelling (nothing like early on).

      Knowledge is power. It’s going to hurt and you have to manage the pain. I just had mine done two weeks ago. I’m fine during the day, but oh boy the nights are the worst. For me it was just the throbbing like a toothache and bein unable to find a comfortable position to sleep. Especially since I’m not a back sleeper and I didn’t want to get used to the opioids. One more thing…ask your doctor if they use the tourniquet. I felt like that was also a source of my pain..mid thigh outer and inner. If he uses it maybe he will have a solution for dealing with that pain. Hope all goes well. As someone who had my other leg done four years ago….was the best decision I ever made! Hopefully this one will heal the same way.

      @@kimberlykhabeer7933 I hope it goes well for you. After about day 10 when I filled my opioid prescription I took them only at night about 15 minutes before I went to bed. The opioid pills are very fast acting and they helped me sleep. I was only given 28 pills, which I don't think is enough to develop an dependency. My doctor did use a tourniquet. My leg was very bruised where that was done, but it didn't hurt much there.

      Hi I found your videos by accident and I am happy because you help me to understand what my mom is going thru. We live in different states and I don’t know how her recovery is going. She does have a friend caring for her but I feel like I am in the dark as to what to expect days and weeks after the full knee replacement. I was trying to gage where she might be at 3 weeks in. On Monday 10-22-23 she was scheduled for her 1st in person THRAPHY at a location. She said home THRAPHY ended last week. I wasn’t sure why I thought maybe mom isn’t following all the instructions to get better so now they say she needs to come to them or maybe this is part of the normal recovery after 3 weeks. I will find out today how Monday thraphy went and how often she needs to go in and for how long. I will look for more of your videos and send them to my mom. Again thank you.

      @@la-nettedonaldson5193I am glad my video helped. It is 100% normal to transition from home therapy to going to the clinic for therapy. In my experience the physical therapists like to see you twice a week. If you go to my UA-cam page and click "Playlists" you will find a playlist with all my knee surgery videos in it.

    Iam in Australia and having TKR iam absolutely scared to death of this procedure

      Don't be scared of the actual surgery. Assuming they give you a spinal and minimal sedation the surgery won't be anything for you. The first four weeks or so of the recovery is both painful and a lot of work to get your knee bending again and after that to rebuild strength. Personally I was expecting things to be a lot worse than they turned out. I did videos starting in the hospital before surgery and then more or less daily for the first week. I am still doing videos at almost 16 months. They are all in a playlist on my main page. Check them out, but remember the videos show my experience. Your experience will be different.

      When I made this video I was finished with therapy. I had 4 weeks of physical therapy with two visits a week. At the end of the 2nd session in the 4th week the therapist told me I was done with therapy unless the surgeon felt I needed more. I saw the surgeon a couple of days later and he said if physical therapy felt I was done I was done. My last physical therapy session concentrated on balance. I did continue all the exercises they gave me and added more I found on line. I still do stretches and bends multiple times a day and I walk - two miles on a rocky trail with lots of ups and downs yesterday.

      @@todddunn945 FYI. I’m 18 months since my TKR and had therapy prior and 12 weeks 3 times per week therapy. I walk climb stairs and I still experience stiffness and have difficulty turning my leg to put socks on! My balance is still off and my leg still feels heavy. I found this to be a long recovery and I still find it difficult to do things I did do before especially getting up from the floor! I now am feeling pain on my other knee but will think long and hard about doing this again. You seem to have made a quick recovery from day one and I hope you continue to do so.

    Did you have any problem with sitting on the toilet from day one?

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  8 місяців тому +1

      No. When I bought my house the toilet was already mounted on a 2" raised platform. I installed a grab bar next to the toilet. The combination of the raised toilet and the grab bar made it much easier to get up.

      I can tell you that from experience you need a toilet raiser for about 3 months
