I love how Troy just enters, like Viking style, dragonborn shouting, echoing thru Valhalla. These three vocalize so well together.
It's the trio of tonal styles/ranges I never knew I needed until they were right in front of me, fucking my ear holes.

I only had the time to listen twice their new album so far, but I think the major improvement on this one is that Troy seems to be more implicated into it this time.

This is one of the most underrated bands/projects in metal history
Troy and Greg's cleans blend perfectly together and Max's signature vocals add that extra punch to their sound.
I feel like Troy's vocals are only considered clean here because they're contrasted with Max's. There's a lot of grit/roar there, he's just very good at keeping melody in with his grit.
Ian Pomfret Nah you can tell the difference between Troy's more gritty and aggressive style of vocals and his clean vocals especially if been listening to Mastodon for a long time. Troy's cleans are much clearer compared to the style that you are mentioning.
@@tommystix87 Honestly that's attributable to Troy getting better at vocals over the years. Troy is way more proficient at singing now than he was in the Remission days, so his harsh vocals can have some surprising melody to them nowadays

There have been a lot of great metal releases this year. But I can honestly say this is by far the BEST i've heard yet. So much variety with all of the guys joining again together. MAX why do you always put out the best stuff at the end of the year!! ha! (Remember Cavalera Conspiracy-Psychosis). Totally overlooked!!

Greg's album is good, its very diverse. It goes from metal to experimental/industrial to electro to rock. Greg said the album was meant to be listened from the first song to his last song, no skipping on first listen.. I guess a concept album.

all three of these vocalists have a unique touch in their voices, that just makes this whole band so different. Everything fits and is yet so heavy and straightforward

Somehow this album will top the debut and that's insane to even imagine.

It would be metal even without Max's vocals. It would indeed be more mainstream, melodic, or maybe even "pop-like" but that doesn't make it any less metal. However, I will admit that the song just wouldn't be the same without Max and, for that reason, I'm happy for his contribution.
The sum of so many parts and it works so well. How can bandmates with such extreme backgrounds have such a wonderfully melodic style?!

I love how Killer be Killed just likes to insert other songs into the song their singing. Max Cavalera's bridge is just so different to the rest of the song, but it still works perfectly with the rest of it.
