  • Genevieve and I had a fun morning shooting crossbows with a good friend of mine. He is brand new to crossbows so we went through everything you need to know about crossbows with him. Or at least we tried to. We shot his Centerpoint Specialist 370 and went through all the procedures from rail lube, sighting it in, targets, tripods (shooting rests), cocking ropes, arrow nocks and we even showed off the Scorpyd and the two Excaliburs. We cover a lot of information in this video that will help new crossbow hunters and stuff even old hats might enjoy. It was a fun time and we hope you have fun watching it.
    This channel is about my love of the crossbow, hunting, and the outdoors. I hunt exclusively with the crossbow. I love it and I aim to help you love it, too!

    Now, I am not sponsored by anyone. I am a free agent. I experiement with different types of gear, but I'll tell you my honest opinion about everything out there. I am not sponsored by Excalibur or Scorpyd...read on:
    Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels--you name it!--with the "stock" 20" Easton Firebolt arrows, Bunjie experimented with heavy arrows during 2020 but has since decided to hunt with 20" ProFlight arrows from Easton, for a total arrow weight of just under 400 grains when tipped with a 100 grain Rage Crossbow Hypodermic Broadhead. This keeps ol' Bunjie around 300fps. Is Bunjie retired as of 2021?
    Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. She also shoots ProFlights (16.5" variety) with a 150 grain Rage Trypan Crossbow Broadhead, for a total arrow weight around 415 grains. This crossbow was a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of it as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).
    Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0) is a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, another gift from a different Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Although I really liked what I saw online, I would not have even tried a Scorpyd given that no shops near me carried them. This was sent to me new, free of charge...with the only stipulation being that if I didn't like it, I would send it back to that FOB. After spending some time with it, I am convinced it is, in fact, the right crossbow for me in 2021, and I look forward to showcasing this crossbow in future videos.
    So, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
    Once again, this channel is about my love of the crossbow, hunting, and the outdoors. I hunt exclusively with the crossbow. I love it. Sure, like a lot of kids, I started hunting with a good ol' Model '94 Winchester .30-30 back in the 80's, but drifted away from hunting when I went off to college, law school, and started a family. As my daughter got older, I regained my interest in the outdoors, and I consider myself lucky to hunt on the same property today that I hunted on as a kid. I got the Excalibur Axiom crossbow in 2010 and I haven't looked back. This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...
    ...and music, too! My related channel, Yankee Militia, showcases my music. Some of the music is hunting-related, so check that out, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, so the two are intertwined. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.
    All Hail Bunjie!

    New to crossbows but longtime gunsmith:
    A trick to save time on scope adjustments is to forget counting clicks. Instead, from a rest, after the first shot aim back at your bullseye and while looking through the scope adjust until the reticle moves to the arrow(or bullet hole).

    The Centerpoint Sniper 370 is an incredible crossbow (had the all black model). Was shooting arrows through arrows with it. Unfortunately had to sell mine due to range restrictions state law hunting requirements. Moved to a compound bow...kind if a pain to sight in, but still having fun.

      Yeah, with carbon express piledrivers and the right broadheads, the 370 has insane amounts of penetration.

    I purchased a Centerpoint Amped 415 crossbow last year and I'm very happy with it. The scope was pretty close upon installation and only needed a little adjusting for elevation and windage. At 415 fps, its very fast and also very quiet. Can't wait to take my first deer with it this year. All Hail the Mighty Crossbow (whichever brand you have)!!

I have been shooting a PSE compound the past couple of years. I'm 61 and wanting to change over to a crossbow. I sure am glad a caught your video because now I know I'll have to crank up the scope settings to get it to move. Lots of fun watching the video. Shoot'em straight and often. Thanks

    I shoot the Centerpoint Mercenary 390. GREAT crossbow for the money. Extremely accurate, even out to 40 yards. My ONLY complaint is the long trigger pull. But for the cost, I’ve learned to deal with it. Took a nice doe with it last year.

    I have Centerpoint's beginner crossbow model, the Tyro. It's a recurve bow rated at 245 fps. It's highly accurate and very fun to shoot, but took a little work to get there.
    The CP scope that came with mine has the same tiresome adjustments. I'm not sure about that model, but on mine, the picatinny rail also has an elevation dial which is extremely useful for larger adjustments and helps to eliminate the tedium of getting it sighted in. Basically get it close with the rail adjustment, then fine tune with scope dials.
    My final recommendation is to replace the clunky, aluminum, Centerpoint arrows with some nice carbon fiber ones, making sure of course to adhere to the manufacturer's recommended grain weight. The difference is night and day! Also, Blue Loc-tite is your friend when it comes to keeping everything snug.
    Love this channel!

    • @silence6408
      @silence6408 3 роки тому +1

      Nice, that tyro is more useful than my CP370 specialist XL in a shtf event. That recurve you got can be restrung easily. Not so much with a compound like the 370, unless you have a bowpress and are able to stock up on, or make your own cables. I've been wanting to get a tyro due to it being a recurve.

    • @lognliv
      @lognliv 3 роки тому +1

      @@silence6408 I admit that the ease of removing the string is an attractive feature, especially in terms of field maintenance. The Tyro is dead nuts between 20-30 yards. When you stretch it out to 40, it begins to show its limits. I haven't taken it hunting yet, but when I do, I'll definitely keep any shots within 30 yards.
      As far as your CP 370 goes, I've read nothing but good reviews 👍 and wouldn't hesitate to purchase one. Cheers, mate!

    To know how many clicks to move it at 20 yards it’s ( 1.047 x .2 )/4=1 click
    1/4” at 100 is the standard for most scopes that are MOA. Rifle scopes. Fine adjust gives you the opportunity to get very close to perfect.

    I bought one of the sniper 370 when they first came out because for the price it was packed with speed and features. The stock bolts gave decent accuracy but i switched to bloodsport bolts and the thing became a tack driver. Mounted to a tripod at 60yds i couldn't shoot at the same spot without hitting bolts. At 60yds i can put 4 bolts touching each other. I chronographed them at 352-355 consistently. The bloodsports are affordable for a good quality bolt.

    I have a 370 and after 3 seasons hunting with it I would make two recommendations: move the scope as far forward on rail as you can to allow you to keep the stock shorter (even an inch or two helped in the stand or blind). 2. Check the string stops and add a dab of glue when they get loose at all.

Since I am on disability price was important to me. Unfortunately my scope is not lighted recticle but it works. They have changed the quiver location but it's fine.For 269.00 I love it. Trigger is the only complaint but I can fix that. Good video

    I have a Nikon 3x Crossbow scope. Clicks are 1/4 inch at 20 yards. Zeroed at 20, it has circles for 25, 30, 35, and 40 for older crossbows. I shoot a 530 grain 19% FOC arrow with 200 grain single bevel broadhead. The trajectory of this arrow matches the reticles almost perfectly. Not sure why newer crossbows would even need reticles because a 20 yard zero at 350+ fps will only drop a few inches at 30 and maybe half a foot at 40? Good you gave tips to novice for safety. Crosspoint looked pretty well made. I like the Pic rail concept on accessory attachments and adjustable stock and foregrip. Sweet. Deer season for archery less than 30 days away here in KY.

Lock the crossbow down with the cross hairs exactly where you aimed before, without moving any thing make sure nothing can move adjust the cross hairs to where the bolt hit, your bow should be dead on now this works with anything that has a scope, guns or crossbows, now you have sited in ,,in 2 shots

    1/4 @ 100 yards (per clicks) = 4 clicks for 1/4 at 25 yards.
    My excal is 1" @ 100 yards. Much better.
    That 1/4" is better suited for a rifle IMO

    • @jamesmartin7282
      @jamesmartin7282 3 роки тому +2

      Great comment! It seems odd if you're used to firearms but since you start at 20 yards, which is 1/5 of 100 yards, you need to multiply clicks by 5. So a 6" move requires 24 clicks at 100 yards but 5x24=120 clicks at 20 yards. It seems wrong but its not. So people will use maybe 30 clicks then find out they only moved the point of impact 1.5 inches.

    The fastest way to set a scope is simple. Pick an aim point, center dot on target. Aim at that exact point and shoot 2 bolts/bullets, marking where the bolts/bullets hit. Then looking through the scope, aim at the same center spot, and adjust the cross-hairs to the point where the bolt/bullet hit. What your doing is adjusting the scope to where the bow/gun is hitting. I did a vid that kinda shows what I mean. I sighted in my 340 takedown, but it was hitting good and needed very little adjustment, so I tried to explain the process. Here's a link to my vid. ua-cam.com/video/MoLhkP2vvRQ/v-deo.html

      That how I do all my scopes, the hardest part for me is keeping the gun/bow steady while making adjustments. I guess I should just get a better shooting rest.

    • @evilevilrick
      @evilevilrick 2 роки тому +1

      @@mstuckey311 About anything will work. I've used everything from pistol rests to pillows. Anything you can set it on that will hold it on point. Once you know where the adjustment needs to go. Do some adjusting and then check it by shooting at the same spot. It may take a couple extra shots, and adjustments, but it still works.

    all my crossbows are 1/4" per click for 100 yards just like a rifle scope...it takes alot of clicks but it will get there. What i do when i sight in a scope, i zero at 20 yards, then see what it does at 30 and 40. If by time i get to 40 and there is a good variance, then i will re-zero at 30 (in the middle), this will reduce the variance at 20 and 40. My tenpoint which was only 280 fps held good at the 10 yard increments, the other bows had some variance so i have been basically zeroing them all at 30 to be safe. My new ripper 425 holds dead on at and 30 with the 20 yard reticle...and only 1.5" low at 40 with the same 20 yard reticle.

    Rich, you are going to love the DeathGrip by BOG tripod. I love mine! It sets up perfectly in the Doghouse blind and holds my Excalibur Micro 335 Kryptek Raid crossbow securely. It comes in black aluminum, camo aluminum, and a graphite model. I have the black aluminum model which is great for the dark hole of the Doghouse blind. The DeathGrip pivots up and down and left and right with no problem. My 7 year old grandson will be able to shoot his first deer this year as we both can sit in our chairs in the blind while the DeathGrip holds the crossbow at the ready. I bet it will be perfect for a camera also! What model do you have coming?

    I can’t believe I watched this whole video. It’s simple math. 1/4” at 100yds. Shooting 20… 100 divided by 20=5. 5 clicks for 1/4”. To move it an inch would be 20 clicks. 8 inches 160. There’s nothing wrong with the scope if you know what you’re doing. I wish I’d stop getting these suggested videos. A lawyer that can’t understand math should’ve been the title.

      These are Doc bumpers. Made to sit against the string, as is the original design. Bumpers dont work when the string sits off them. Actually makes things worse. Thats right from the manufacture and has been proven in testing, more than 20 years ago. Excal just went cheap and thats too bad. :(
