My step dad’s 01 prelude made me fall in love with driving. I would tell him I was going to a friends house after school but really I was in the country side driving it as fast as it would go.
All he is doing is giving it a little more gas so you can hear the exhaust because most car meets don't allow revving unless you're a manual driver trying to park or leave so he's just taking advantage of the rules.
