First wash in 10 Years: Ruf Slantnose Porsche 1 of 2

- This is a 1987 Porsche Ruf Slantnose convertible extremely rare, 1 of 2 ever produced. It was purchased by a friend out of private collection. At the time of purchase, the Porsche hadn't been washed for nearly 10 years and in desperate need of a paint restoration. The paint had swirls and some deep scratches that required a compound and polish. Inside, although not disgusting, was still pretty filthy and required a shampoo and interior cleaning with AMMO Lather and Shag. The rear window had overspray on the plastic from a previous repaint. I used Rapid Remover (solvent) that removed the overspray quickly. The Ruf wheel are my absolute favorite on a Porsche, so cleaning was extra special for me. There is a huge before and after satisfaction and gratifying reveal so watch until the very end. Once done we applied AMMO Reflex Pro to the exterior for insane reflection and paint coating protection. My favorite wheels were protected in AMMO Gelee Pro as well. Larry, I love your videos and have been a fan for years! I just wanted to say that I like when you switch up the format now and then, it keeps things interesting, but I gotta say having a preview of another video pop up here and there throughout this video was fairly distracting
was going to say the same thing, it felt like this video was just a place to advertise other videos.
Completely agree, the picture-in-picture is very distracting. Hope everyone who agrees can upvote to get the editors attention.
yeah it seemed particularly obnoxious on this one
Thank you! I was just about to say the same thing, VERY distracting. I've been following him for years, great work and videos.
Don't get me wrong, have been a HUGE fan for years but I agree here. It was like a bad infomercial to be honest... The giant pop-up windows in the corners almost ruined it, almost... :)
My friend who owned Niagara Helicopters Ltd in Niagara Falls Canada owned this same car years ago. My goodness, I thought I died and made it to heaven when he took me for a ride in it. Amazing vehicle 👌
I am digging into the early history of this particular car and I would like to connect with the prior owner, if possible.
Larry went from applying Mousse with a foam applicator, to a folded microfiber towel, to now his hands.
…. and a stick. Don’t forget the paint stick.
Leonardo Da Vinci said, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
The music was so satisfying it reminds me of Gran Turismo sending the car out for a car wash, oil change, and engine rebuild.
My favourite bit was when you cleaned the car.
i agree, that was my favourite bit as well.
Same
I liked that part, too!
@@antonygibson_ agreed my fav bit too
My least favorite part is when it ends.
it´s so nice seeing RUF Porsches around the World knowing they are about 20min a drive away.
That Porsche didn't look bad before, but wow, that end result is gorgeous
The best start to my day is watching Ammo videos! Thanks Larry, you’re awesome!
Start your day earlier
I appreciate how you have long sections where you just don’t talk and let your work (and smooth jazz undertones) do the talking! Poetry in motion my friend! Gorgeous car!
No one, but no one is better then Larry...what a pleasure to watch and learn from the master...
I love this car..I just love older porches
I think the Superbird is giving the Porsche wing envy 🥸
Rapid Remover is amazing stuff. Probably the first time I’ve seen Larry endorse a product other than his own.
He frequently endorses Rupes polishing products.
Outside of his line he has promoted other products over the years. Rupes and Megs are two that he uses a lot. He doesn’t have a line of cutting agents and last I remember he uses Megs pro line.
Larry doesn't endorse his products. He just uses them on camera. One of the least selfish detailers I know. Let us not malign him please!
@@LSD04 Clown.
@@Prashantlunawat you must be new here. Look back at his older videos, he wouldn’t even show the labels on products he was using, sometimes he would go as far as blocking the labels with tape - even when it was obvious from the shape/color of the bottle.
0:04 The pitting on the Rear Intake Guards, made me think of an episode of Top Gear, where they raced a Ferrari down an abandoned airstrip in Spain. The dust & sand eroded away the carbon fiber undercarriage frame. Wow!
From the Recaro Orthos to the frunk full of stereo, that 930 is full of period correct awesomeness!
Larry this looks PHENOMENAL!!!!
If I am not mistaken. This particular Ruf once belonged to Dr. Bill Mow former president/founder of Bugle Boy Industries (a famous clothing line in the 80's/90/s) We serviced all of Dr. Mow's cars back then. This one had transmission issues with its bespoke 5 speed which we tended to. Also ran terribly lean which was rectified by backdating the C.I.S. system. I spent several days with this car and enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for rekindling memories.
I would love to learn more about the early history of this car. The transmission had lingering issues and was fully rebuilt along with a full engine reseal. It is now perfect, has 30k miles and an absolute pleasure to drive (contrary to other comments it is now driven regularly on winding country roads).
@@begodo To reiterate, we serviced most, if not all of Dr. Mow's 'toys'. The Ruf being one of many Porsche's, MBZ's and BMW's. I, personally used to deal with Stephanie, and a couple of times with Gary at Exclusive Motorcars in New Jersey. The company was helmed by a gentleman: Gary Borman. Mr. Borman was responsible for keeping the 'Kremer K3' Porsche (which ended up winning the 1980 IMSA championship) in order. It was this experience which captured Alois Ruf's interest and led to the inevitable Ruf distributorship. As you are well aware, your Ruf is no longer a 3.3 litre but rather a 3.4. It was this displacement increase which 'contributed' to intermittent 'delta point', or crossover from atmospheric to above atmospheric (manifold boost) surging. The late C.I.S. systems employed a frequency valve which, when in conjunction with an 02 sensor, allowed - (albeit barely) - compliance with U.S. emission certification requirements under light throttle 'cruise' conditions yet proved unsatisfactory during much of 'anything but' cruise situations . Dr. Mow was quite disappointed with the 'un-Porsche-like' running and commissioned us to do 'whatever it takes' to make it right which meant a complete 'backdate' of ALL the fuel injection components - i.e, the fuel distributor, injectors, and ALL injector hardlines. In addition, when we received the car we immediately noticed a shimmy through the wheel which we discovered was due to a damaged 'Speedline/Ruf' left front wheel. The transmission was problematic as well since (Porsche had not yet introduced the Getrag G50 5 speed) which is the reason for the bespoke unit in your car. The shifting was balky and far from smooth. Not long after our preliminary work was performed the car had to be collected from Dr. Mow's residence as now the transmission would not engage ANY gear. We were strongly advised by Stephanie not to disassemble the unit as no replacement parts would be sent to anyone BUT an authorized Ruf distributor. Due to Dr. Mow's high profile status and Exclusive Motorcars already being apprised of the situation had coordinated with Ruf in Germany to promptly expedite the repair. Our invoice total was well north of $20k in 1989 dollars if I remember correctly. We received the refurbished unit within a week as I recall. Bear in mind it's been over 30 years but I DO vividly recall Dr. Mow being adamant telling me to "please drive the car for a few days until YOU are satisfied before returning it". I drove the car to San Simeon (Hearst Castle) and used it to commute to and from the shop for a week accumulating some 700 miles in the process. Also, no disrespect to AMMO NYC. Dr. Mow had a 'detail man' maintain his stable of automobiles. Dr. Mow was as OCD as one can functionally be and he demanded of his detail guy that anytime ANY of his cars were detailed, the wheels MUST come off for detailing as well as the wheel/fenderwells, and of course - calipers. I was told by his nephew that was one of the first things he's check for. Dirt or grime visible anywhere behind the spokes of the wheels or the fenderwells. As an FYI if you are unaware which is unlikely, the current source for anything Ruf in the U.S. is (rstrada). Hope this was helpful to you. With kindest regards, - doc
Thanks Doc! This is incredible and incredibly helpful. Exclusive Motorcars was on my list to contact. I will try to reach Gary next. It is a fun adventure to chase down all these details. I knew the car was incredibly special and that after spending many years mostly out of sight in a private collection people would recognize it once it was visible again.
Love these videos. Therapy
What an icon that car is Larry
I've never seen a Recaro with 15 buttons per seat!!!!
Definitely sitting at my desk with this on my second monitor. Of course I'm still working, and being productive!
Yes me too... "working".
I got a large screen
it will only take me all day to do a couple problems
The fact that those wheels are 30 years old and still one of the nicest OEM wheels ever is insane
The full car still looks awesome today! The slantnose 👌 cabby👌wheels👌Ruf power👌
I always find your videos most therapeutic. Thank you for posting, as always.
Holy smoke!!!!!! what a car - beautiful. Great work, Larry!!
Link no on on Dt
The wheels are beautiful Larry!
That smooth jazz and your detailing is true ASMR!
Cleanliness is so…..beautiful
I just came back from Los Angles and I saw the other RUF convertible there at the RUF exhibit at the Petersen museum. The worker there said it was a 1 of 1 that Mr.Ruf made for his wife. I guess he didn't know he made two!
What a beautiful car, you guys bringed it back alive
Brought would be the word you're looking for bro ✌
(As in, "you guys brought it back to life")
I love the little facts about the cars that you added in those pop up bubbles really nice touch to the video to educate people more.
These videos relaxes me !! 🙋🏼♂️ who is with me ? 🤣
All the Ruf's are special, very nice
what i absolutely love about your channel is watching truly amazing wonderful cars get the care and respect they deserve. other detailing channels yeah they do a good job but the cars aren't usually anything special. watching you is like watching historical artwork be restored. once you're done its like "yes that Van Gogh now looks as it should"
Great job!
@4:26 the amps and sound system are classic to that era , were beyond pricey when they were new. Now with a lil work would still sound amazing , hope he keeps them .
Holy crap- those seats have so many buttons!!
Larry I've been a fan since the drive days. Just wanted to leave you a comment. Your audio (music specifically) has transformed excellently over the past 2 years. To the point where I don't even notice it (absolutely a good thing) the linking of videos however, needs context. A lot of people saying they don't like it and I totally disagree!!! There isn't a single issue in the world with linking your content! None whatsoever! You create brilliance time and time again. You just need to give a reason why. Include it in the narrative a little... give people a story. ("This reminds me of the time...") keep killing it Larry. One of the most humble, hardworking, down to earth guys on this entire platform.
Another great video. Hands down one of the best UA-cam channels to watch. You are the reason many people got into the detailing business and why I detail my car (not as great as you). Thank you for all the great/free lessons 😃👍
The music man. Easily brought up the level of chill watching you clean this beauty. Top level my dude.
Great job on this restoration vid. Love your videos and products. Your time and attention to detail is thru the roof. Keep working my guy.
Great video Larry... the combination of the music, the car and the process is wonderful. Thank you for sharing. I am planning on buying your products to celebrate when my baby gets painted. Can't wait!
The music, the car and the therapy of this detail; Larry you did a fantastic job thanks for making this video.
Really appreciate your channel, I so get and understand attention to detail, no pun intended, everything else in the world seems to be fast and cheap and real craftsman like yourself are becoming far and few in between. Thanks
I love this new concept of split videos. great idea. I have to watch both as I love both sides of this detailing but it makes total sense here.
Had a chance to buy an 87 Slantnose in black hardtop " non RUF" WITH 17K miles 25 years ago for $15k. Had just bought another sports car and couldn't squeeze it. Sure wish I had now. Great videos! Thanks
Jesus Christ it was already beautiful on its own and you breathed LIFE back into it! Amazing!
The music reminds me of Gran Turismo. And that red really pops that detail, looking good.
amazing job Larry! thanks for the content ss always, cant wait for the restoration videos coming up!
Wow!! You are so awesome!!! You made that car look brand new again just like it was on the assembly line!!!!
U treat the cars like they treat rich old ladies at expensive spas. Lol. Truly amazing detail work!
I used to own a 2007 Porsche Cayman, in red… and I must agree, when clean and polished up, red really does “pop” beautiful shine.👍
Nice to hear your original background music again.
Gorgeous. I remember drooling over this car in road and track magazine. I didnt have a lamborghini countach poster on my wall. I had a slant nose porsche poster with a jaguar sitting on top of it.
I sure hope this goes viral
THE HOLY GRAIL OF PORSCHE
The vibes in this one are immaculate ! Good job Larry
Never shut a door to a car that doesn't have a window frame by pushing the window. Instead use the door handle. Nice job as always!
Great job Larry. Looking good buddy! Glad to see you with all this growth.
Thanks again Larry! Keep up the videos!
Every time I watch your videos I have the urge to detail my car, even though its already clean.
i love the jazz slow beat music its so relaxing
had to watch this to get me pumped for washing my new BMW 840i. Inspirational!
Incredible car! This video was so calming and relaxing! Thanks for sharing your skills with the world.
That is a properly astonishing car.
Good to see the previous owner enjoyed it/drove it.
Beautiful finished product as usual.
My god that reveal of the hood!!!! That pop! That shine! Amazing work as always.
Zen. Pure zen. Thanks Larry, excellent video as always
Thanks Larry as always spectacular video👏👏👌
Love the music in this one. Gives it a much better vibe than those other detail channels!
Nice result.. love that recaro classic seat, in my opinion it match perfectly on 70-90 cars
Incredible job, love your work! Thanks for sharing your magic with the world!
This dude Larry is the goat 🐐 top detailer in the world thank you for teaching me all I know 👏
Love the Lo-Fi Larry, I hope you put it in more videos
This might get lost in the comments but I just wanted to say I always love the intro music. Never gets old hearing it.
Music choice and editing is outstanding. Thanks for the effort to make these "first wash" videos even more fun to watch❤️
Love the chill music in this one!
Stunning results. Very cool choice of music also Larry!
Such a beautiful car
Please never change this soundtrack. This is what drew me to your channel. This personifies AMMO NYC. But great work as usual Larry.
Sweet ride! Great work as usual Larry! 👍👍👀
Seen this car at this years Kit & Import Nationals, in Carlisle. Very cool car!!!
What a transformation.
This is what I feel about you, you feel more connected to older cars than newer sportcars. I feel more vibes on these videos.
Keep it up Larry, you're super talented and gives alot of insperations!
Beautiful restoration 👍🏻
About time you played your old music , been watching since the beginning
Absolutely amazing Larry! 🤩
Great Job as always man.... those wheels....man!!!
“First wash” videos are my favorite 👍🏼
Hi Larry! Love your videos and I really like the newish "pop up video" type facts!
Wow, great job guys, learn a lot from your videos ❤️
I am not a Porsche fan but these were beautiful cars. It's a pitty they never continued the look. Awesome job done giving it back its sparkle.
The RUF is serious business...
Amazing work as-well my friend!!!
Awesome vid man! Thank you!
Wow. That was a poster porsche when I was a kid. Dream about that one.
I love watching these so much, after i get out of bootcamp im getting a 99 porsche boxster and im gonna either do a 997 front end conversion or a slant nose conversion
love all of these videos
Beautiful job!
You always do a good job, but this time WOW really turned out impressive.
Great Video once again and What a Porsche who doesn’t love a Slantnose / Flachbau
That Porsche was brought to you in fairly...ruf shape.
6:42 the size difference of those 2 cars are incredible. The Porsche looks like a hotwheels!
