I’m the lucky owner of the 992 GT3 in this episode. It was a fun experience for both of us. I got to witness firsthand Larry’s attention to detail and passion for his craft, and he got early seat time in the latest GT3. Great guy, great work, great products!
@@theclutch19 Definitely daily drivable as long as you're cautious with driveways, ramps, speed bumps. Aside from the huge wing in the rear view mirror, visibility is good. As for ride quality, it's no more harsh than the 2017 Audi S3 that used to be my daily driver. Overall, as you'd expect, it depends on your local road conditions. Porsche seems to have tuned this newest generation of GT3 to be more like the track-focused GT3 RS of the previous generation.
Absolutely unbelievable car, fantastic spec to! Do you mind me asking why you requested for the wheels to be left on during the detailing process, just interested! Congrats on the gt3
@@mattrobson8230 Thanks! Couple of reasons. The car is brand new, so the wheels weren't that dirty to begin with. And the GT3 has a fiddly, complicated centerlock nut system to secure the wheels to the hubs, rather than standard lugbolts/nuts. It's a very specific process that requires special tools. Didn't think it was worth the effort just to get to the backs of the wheels. I love the car, and am looking forward to warmer temps this spring.
I deal with anxiety daily and I gotta say watching you detail these various cars is very calming and it does help! I especially like the barn finds that you bring back life into. Keep it up!
That end couldn't be better, so cool to see Larry in the gt3 going for a spin and enjoying every second of it, thanks for sharing Larry, happy holidays, much love and respect and salutes from Colombia
The heavy ,intentional orange peel is actually known as rocker guard. It is a separate, rubberized material that is spray applied prior to applying base and clear coat.Similar to undercoating.Great episode.😎👍
11:18 that the cable going from the splitter to the chassis is to transfer the downforce from the front splitter (which is plastic and would just bend) directly to the chassis. It also prevents the splitter from deflecting downward too far at high speed and potentially catching on the ground which would be bad.
That system is also used on the 718 GT4/Spyder. In addition to the comments above that cable would also provide the front splitter some give should it come in contact with the ground, the lip which is all plastic can flex upward and return to its original position (cable under tension).
The love and drive for true automotive enthusiast never fades! The smile we all share and laughs for these amazing machines are all the same. Great video as always Larry
The textured look on the lower rocker panel was present from new 50 years ago on my first 911. I think it was a German equivalent of a product called Body Schutz by 3M which is a rubberized undercoating. I may be wrong but appearance wise it is identical.
Ever since I was a Valet back in my early to mid/late 20’s, I’ve been obsessed with everything Porsche puts out. Driven 60s up to brand new chassis, and fell in love with every single one I drove. My first experience in a GT3 is something I’ll never forget. The level of precision, and tightness, and stiffness, and attention to every last detail is mind blowing. I’ve been in my Tiguan for a few years wanting to upgrade to a Macan GTS, but regardless of w/e I end up daily driving, the dream of owning a Porsche 911 or Cayman, for a weekend toy, is extremely strong, and has remained as strong as when I stepped out of the first 911 I ever rode in, after a ride along track run when I was 11yo, and the obsession hit. Told my dad the entire ride home and the next few days that I’m going to own one of those (until I knew I was being annoying af about it and kept the obsessive porsche talk to myself😂) 🤞🏼Hopefully one day man….🤞🏼🤞🏼Hopefully one day🤞🏼
Larry, it’s so nice to see that you’re constantly working on the most incredible, special and valuable cars in the world and you still can get excited about them! I know they’re special, but at the end of the day, they’re only “ordinary Porsches” for most people who don’t know them and just see them as another one... I hope you can get your very own GT3 extremely soon!!! 🤩
Larry, I just started working for Porsche in Michigan. I took over their detailing department… I got to wash / one step / wax a shark blue one today. I had some isolated scratches I took care of with my nano just like you had. I swear I had the same reaction when I got the last leaf out of the front grill 😂 I really love what they did with the 992 paint. I feel the same way about the orange peel. It provides durability where it matters. This video just put the same smile I had on my face this morning!!!
@AMMO NYC What you see at 5:49 are a sort of left over glue from the protection film for shipping. It's very common on VAG products and indeed very hard to see unless under bight light and the right angle. We remove them by heating with a heatgun and it just evaporate
The wire in the grille is for the "pedestrian bar". Which is a plastic U shaped part that the bottom of the bumper/tray mounts to. The wire connects the crash bar to the front bumper so the front bumper doesn't sag at speed.
Those odd lines in the paint reminded me of when you did the Alfa Romeo with the hockey tape over the front clip of the car! Love the videos Larry, always learn something valuable.
The wire in the front bumper holds up the plastic lower pedestrian bar. On the previous 991.1 and 991.2 it was aluminum, it was prone to sagging and bending also the mounting tabs that hold the bumper cover lower tray are prone to cracking/breaking. I work at Kelly Moss Road and Race and the front bumpers and take a massive beating so these are aways things to look for.
The rock guard is intentionally soft so that the paint will stay on it when it moves from the impact of a rock. It's a PITA to get off if you're repairing a rocker panel, but it's a really good way to save the metal that will be taking more abuse
Those “ghost scratches” are so common on new lexus cars. You’re right, something happens under the protective wrap the factory puts on. I haven’t found a good way to get rid of them yet other than a light wet sanding.
Never knew a lot of the thing’s that you showed us, honestly you mention OCD, but I think that’s just your attention to detail and your experience shows so much on each episode, solid job dude, drive and protect:-)
Oh, man. I can so relate to that chasing down the leaf part. I guess that’s one reason why I love this channel. OCD. And a reference to Jason Fenske as well. One of the first UA-cam channels I subscribed to. Great work, Larry. You’re the best.
Makes me SO happy when owners trust you enough to put their cars through their paces! Why wouldn’t they, after trusting your OCD to get their cars looking AMAZING?
My former boss had two GT3’s while I worked for him…highlight of my day was sitting in the carport in front of his spot when he would show up and/or leave….the sound was mesmerizing
Loved watching the drive at the end, EXCEPT for the thumbs IN the steering wheel. That can be a bit dangerous, instead of having them on the wheel, not wrapped around it. Always enjoy watching the videos. BEST detailer in the business! I wish I could afford you, as you probably cost a lot more than I make in a month.
Really enjoyed seeing you get under the car and nerd out. Also I really enjoyed seeing you take the car out for a drive! We need another track day video with you! Fantastic stuff as always! I hope I get to meet you in person someday!
Seen a lot of heat about this car on your Instagram. Video is better than I expected. Amazing car. Thanks to the owner for sharing the passion and letting us see the detail, and to see you driving it. Fun fact a lot of Toyotas like the Tacoma, 4 Runner and the Tundra all have lower orange peel like the GT3 in the video. Now I finally understand why it would have that and not glossy from top to bottom. Keep up the great work and thanks for inspiring me :)
I’m pretty sure the wire is the hood release, the windows drop when you get in your car, but if your battery dies, you can’t get in to pop the hood since the battery is in the front trunk. This alloys you to charge your battery without prying your window and door open.
The marks under film is screen wash etching in due to fairly new paint which is soaking through the layers of paint when lying about & depending on weather conditions determine how bad they are sometimes can be buffed out failing that they need to be wet sanded with 2000 paper with blocks as marks can be raised.
that aircraft cable behind the mesh in the front bumper is for strength. the amount of downforce can potentially snap the front diffuser/spoiler so those cables hold it in place.
It's great seeing how everyone GT3 paint are different from each generation but I'm also looking forward to Larry's new Taycan Cross Turismo blue in his detailing bay sometimes once he drives it home being washed and lifted 1st time!

@AMMO NYC The Reason why the 992 GT3 is so much fast is the Aerodynamic and the landing gear. Also the Tires are a very big reason. The String in the front is because the front Splitter produces so much downforce that they needed to strengthen the middle of the Splitter so it dont break off.
I think the grill cable is there to support the splitter in case someone steps on it or something like that. Some FSAE teams use it on their front wings so they don't flex when they produce a lot of downforce in high speeds (also helps to get the car compliant with the rules hehe).

Maybe a logo track curtain that can be drawn around like a hospital room. It would surely help contain the mess and overspray when washing. Make it temporary to control overage during the wash and maybe even the polish process if you are making a lot of dust. I still get great satisfaction from washing and detailing my cars and boat. I follow you for my cars and Drake for my boat. So similar yet different in product and machine use.

I stopped using buckets to wash a car a long time ago, and just put the car wash in a spray bottle, with a clean wash mitt, and a simple on/off spray nozzle on the hose.
Hey Larry, I myself am luky enough to be a porsche mechanic, or at least i will be once my training phase of 3 years is over. as far as i know, the metal wiring in the front is used to keep the front aero part where they are under extreme conditions (huge downforce). this metal wire also appears on the previous GT3‘s (don’t know if anything previous of 991.1 also has this), the GT3 RS, GT2 RS, GT4 and Boxster Spyder :)

Is "undercoating" equivalent to Line-X?
Stone guard coating - Porsche's (and others) have been using it for decades!
