Top Ten Move Stealers in Fighting Games

- We all love originality in fighting games, but sometimes it can be unique to be a copycat. A handful of characters in the history of fighting games have made a name for themselves by taking moves from other fighters and melding them into a different overall moveset, or having a move that lets them steal moves from their opponent, whether it’s a single move or the whole playstyle. I’m going to look at the coolest characters that fall into these categories and make copying the new innovation.

Don’t forget: if Rogue absorbs Akuma, she not only gets his aerial fireball, but also his Raging Demon Super, performed exactly the same way.

@@juanpagan7944 does she? I don’t remember seeing it. I’ve always seen her do the fist in the air after execution.
Satsugah N.O. Sugah
Bonus: in mk11 after a brutality shang tsung can transform into all the ninjas with button commands and if you hold A/X he'll transform into the character he killed in the brutality
Correction: Metal Sonic's Psycho Crusher like move is actually a super move you can pull off with Sonic once you've entered hyper mode.
Vast majority of the cast reuse the same moves for their neutrals. Bark's entire moveset being completely original with no reuse animations from the rest of the cast.
Everyone pretty much has the same kick combo animation where every single character's punch combo animations are all different and can lead to different properties.
Shang Tsung: "Your Soul is MINE."
Rogue: "Sugar, your Power is MINE."
😂😂😂
I remember I had a strategy guide (those were fun days) for Mortal Kombat Trilogy which had every fighter's move set, combos and finishers. Shang Tsung's had every move to morph into a different kombatant (all of them, even the bosses) and it took up multiple pages. I can't imagine anyone memorizing every morph move command, and THEN to immediately know those fighter's moves and combos too. Twas fun!
Regarding Shang Tsung, he learned his soul stealing abilities off-screen in both timelines, he never got his powers from Shao Kahn. Also the only reason he became young again in both MK2 and MK9 is because Shao Kahn restored his youth, while in MK11 he became young again thanks to the crown of Kronika. And finally, in MK11, in addition to the moves from Reptile, Rain and Ermac, he also has the Smoke-Shake projectile parry from Smoke. Hope that it clarifies everything. Other than that great video.
Huh, didn't know that, that's actually pretty cool
@@kombatserbia6034Glad to help dude
I like Seth and Shang Tsung They are my Favourite Characters Move Stealer and I hope Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa will reprise his role as Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 1
Here's some particularly interesting Kirby Hats:
- Zelda: For the longest time, he actually copied Young Zelda's hat from Ocarina of Time. It wasn't until Ultimate that he copied Zelda's hairdo.
- Lucina: Just her butterfly mask.
- Mr. Game & Watch: Makes him mimic G&W's black LCD form and gray outline.
- Wii Fit Trainer: He defaults to his white palette to mimic the trainer's stark white skin.
- Mii Fighters: His hat is just a paper headband of the copied Mii's face.
- Robin: This hat will actually disappear on its own if Kirby exhausts the Thunder tome's durability.
- Shulk: He doesn't copy Shulk at all - just his Monado. Though if you know what that Monado actually is, this can have some dark implications...
- Ryu: Just like the original, he has eyebrows that superimpose his bandanna.
- Inkling: Like the Robin Hat, this can disappear if he exhausts the ink tank.
- Hero: No matter which Hero he inhales, he copies Arusu's headband (the DQ3 Hero).
- Steve: His whole body just becomes blocks.
- Sora: He uses a magic construct shaped like Sora's Keyblade instead of replicating it. This does make sense, since full replicas of Kingdom Key took a lot of effort and experience from their wielders (Data-Sora and Xion).
Great facts!
I would have also added (ancient) Ogre from the Tekken series: even though the stealing of moves happens off screen, he does utilize a lot of moves that are not his own.
I loved the script of the Kirby segment and all of the footage that went along with it.

Ooh, Rogue's cool!
One of my favorite move stealers is Shadow Mewtwo in Pokkén Tournament. The playable character certainly has plenty of his own moves for sure, but also has a ton of animations that seem to come from regular Mewtwo along with several special moves from other characters on the roster: Pikachu's Thunder, Garchomp's Earthquake, and Charizard's Flamethrower. He also has Psystrike just like Mewtwo, but the other stolen moves are follow-ups to his air special (Reflect), while Psystrike is the same input as regular Mewtwo and feels more like a clone character move than a stolen one (even though outside of this, the two don't feel like clones at all).
The real fun for me is in the boss character Shadow Mewtwo fights though, where in each of the fights throughought the game, Shadow Mewtwo will have different moves stolen from different characters. In some fights you can see him using Lucario's Aura Sphere, in other fights he'll have Suicune's Blizzard or Gardevoir's Psychic. I really enjoy just messing around with the different Shadow Mewtwo boss fights and all the weird properties to see what's possible or what the AI might come up with for combos and such.
Fun fact: In Smash Ultimate, Kirby gets a damage bonus on his copied move.
19:03 from what I understand double is an avatar or an extension of the mother Lamia the head of the Trinity.
She serves as both a guiding hand for the skullheart making sure the “right” people find it as well as an embodiment of Lamia’s anger towards Eliza if double was to ever find her again like in Eliza’s story.
I bet there are some people that would not mind being smooched by rougue even if it power drains them

Rogue getting your powers by passionately kissing you was one of the best parts of the game(she even got to kiss fellow female fighters!! Lol)
I often wondered how the kiss didn’t automatically knock out the opponent or put them in a coma
So thanks for enlightening me that the Rogue in the games has gained more control of her abilities
It only put Ms Marvel and her boyfriend Cody in a coma, and she had to hold onto them for a long time for that to happen.
@@Rocket1377she wasn't holding Cody for long, I think it's because he was human that her powers had such a strong effect.
I think it’d be interesting for a top 10 mimic characters in fighting games list.
There's also Ancient Ogre in Tekken 3. He uses a lot of moves from other fighters, but also has some of his own
Oh damn, good point. The character is so distinct that you can easily forget that he steals moves. He even impacts the lore as a result, so he should really be on this list.
His moves are from Tekken 2 characters absent in 3.
Hello there, MrTopTenList. I know that this comment will likely not be seen by you, but if it is, I wanted to ask if you could please possibly consider making a video for "Top 10 Strangest Characters to Fight in Fighting Games"/"Top 10 Most Mechanically Unusual Characters in Fighting Games"? By that, I mean characters who behave differently than the rest of the roster in their game or just differently than regular fighting game characters in general (a lot of these tend to be both), regarding how their moves, specials, attacks, and etc. work in the game they are in and what makes them more unique. For instance, Phoenix Wright from MvC3, Junpei from Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Hakumen from Blazblue, Hanato Yamada from Bleach Shattered Blade, and Angel from King of Fighters, just to give a few ideas.
I know that I have already asked you this once before, but since you began this video talking about how fighting game characters often have unique movesets and abilities that a lot of people haven't seen before, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to suggest it once again. Also, in case you need suggestions for filling out a full list, the TV tropes page on "Mechanically Unusual Fighters" puts pretty much all of them together for you to look through at your leisure and choose which 10 you thinking are the most mechnically unusual for their game or fighting games in general.
Please consider covering these sorts of characters in a future video if at all possible, and even if you choose not to, I will still love and enjoy all of your future content. Thank you once again for all of your hard work, and please consider my suggestion if you ever have the chance. :)
Hi will you make a vid aBout the Pokemon Scarlet and violet DLC I also enjoyed your friends S/V music videos and the review ?I reawatched them recently.
I hVEN'T gotten a notification for you since the Top Ten Pot Cards in Yu-Gi-Oh video. and honestly, that's a Bizzare way to pronounce Honoka's name esepecfially because in the Kira Buckland video interview that you were both involved it it was pronunced correctly. is this pronuncing things incorectly, strangely a recurring joke? anyway yeah bring back Necrid.
Many have reported the lack of notification with my uploads and unfortunately, I have no idea how to fix it for people if they already have the bell icon clicked. The best I can say is check back every 2 weeks and they should be an upload or update on the community tab. Uploads are usually every other Saturday. As for Honoka, I wasn't involved in the Kira interview. AT just asked if I could get him footage of some characters she voiced, so I did, but otherwise, I'm just a viewer when it comes to Software Agents videos. I know nothing about the contents of the video until its released.
Dural... I still miss her these days...
Damn you, Ultimate Showdown....
It's a shame, but understandable. She's a boss, so making her playable online would unbalance the game for competitive play.
@@Rocket1377 But what about offline? There's still the arcade, vs and training. So what's up with that?
2:04 REVENGE OF DR. ROBOTONIC
Kirby has the power of succ 💀
bartz from dissidia deserves an honorable mention
Shang Tsung has only been around since 1992. That's when the first MK game came out. I remember. I was 7 and it changed. My. Life.
For the Sonic entry I would've gone with Emerl. The entirety of his moveset is bits and pieces from everyone on the roster, customized to your liking. The entire story has him learning moves from everyone he hangs out with.
Fun fact: When you face Shang Tsung in MK9's arcade or story modes, he can transform freely to whoever he wants from the cast just like the original trilogy.
Goku is the biggest move thief in fighting game history if you really think about it.
Got Kamehameha from Roshi
Solar Flare from Krillin
Kaioken from Kai
... actually the only thing that is his is SSJ 1 form.
The kaioken was learned, not stolen
Well most dbz stealen from each other like vegeta distracted disc
@@SoloKrypton solar flare is tenshinhan's move
@@SoloKrypton I'd say the only thing that is his is actually the Dragon Fist.
For personal matters there's also another move stealer Ditto from the Pokemon franchise and Ditto was even in the Super Smash Bros games.
Geegus from World Heroes also fits this category well, I love that the mugen community has even expanded his and Rogues moves to clone even more characters outside of their official sprites
Never thought I'd see sonic the hedgehog but here we are
Another one is Xavier Pendragon from Eternal Champions he can transform into the character he's fighting against and a while in a fight, and occasions he'll turn into a different character from the game's roster but that's an insanely rare occurrence
You missed Ogre. He was the leader of all these characters that are, "I have all the moves."
How Ogre didn't make this list is beyond me. He is iconic, core to the story, made us believe that every character whose moves he used were dead, and combined all those moves into an incredibly powerful/cohesive moveset. It really is a shame that Ogre didn't make this list.
Ogre is horrible. Mokujin would be better to add to this list. He makes more sense
I think that Emerl from Sonic Battle would have been better for the Sonic entry because he has access to way more moves because there are more characters.
I wonder if my idea for a Disney themed fighting game could have that kind of character?
Im disappointed that necrid never appeared in the other soul caliber games after soul caliber 2 he's a cool unique character with tons of potential 😢
I'd also mention eleven/twelve from Street Fighter.
Also in Street Fighter 6 world tour mode, your own character has access to other's moveset.
Also, on Mortal Kombat there are instances of Shinnok copying moves as well as Quan Chi copying finishers.
Fyi I Suggested Rogue For This List I'd like a Thank you
Kirby in Super Smash Bros. is my top pick because of the sheer amount of characters he can copy.
Oh here’s an idea for a list top 10 gravity manipulators
Can you do a top ten magical girl?
1) I forgot how badass Baby Vegeta outro was
2) MK11 has the best Shang Tsung design.
They are called composite characters
Awesome video
Do top ten clawed/bladed characters next, please
Whats cools is MK 1 (2nd reboot) Shang Tsung is based more off of MK 11 Shang Tsung.
Thank you ever so dang much. I love these.
From Sonic games, i would rather choose Emerl from Sonic Battle. Its like building your own character that will copy the moves you choose.
Sorry if you've done this, but could you do a Top Ten Fighting Game Psychics list?
Can You Make "Top 10 Shrine Maiden (Miko) Character In Fighting Games"??
I better not catch you playin male Seth online , IM IN YOUR WALLS!
I'm surprised you didn't have Taskmaster on here. Or does he not count for some reason?
I mean, the only moves he really imitates are Spider-Man's Web Swing and Captain America's Charging Star (although, a much weaker version of it). The rest of his moveset is very original (and even though he has Hawkeye's arrow skills, he already had his arrow moves before UMVC3 came out, since Hawkeye wasn't in vanilla MvC3)
I often wondered how the kiss didn’t automatically knock out the opponent or put them in a coma
do top 10 Fighting games in 3D
I wonder how Mokujin didn’t make it. Also Twelve from SF3.
I mentioned it in the intro, but characters like Mokujin who randomly copy are classified as "mimic" characters since you have no control over which character they will play like before the match begins. That includes characters like Charade from Soulcalibur or Eleven from Street Fighter V. The characters on this list have control over which moves they use or if they copy their opponent. Twelve would've been on the list if I didn't have the "one per series of origin" rule. Seth took Street Fighter's spot.
Kinda surprising Aria from Multiversus wasn't mentioned, but maybe it's a good thing since a significant amount of people bullying the 'fact'/idea that it's a dead game
Thank you, \i don't really lay fighting games but think they are really cool and these types of characters fascinate me.
I really liked the video but you should have chosen Rugal Bernstein for SNK cause most of his moves are copies of different fighters and he adds a bit of flare using them and I love how SNK wanted his character to be and I repeat from his makers "the cheapest Bastard" like even in capcom he stole Akumas moves
So, in English Honoka is apparently pronounced Hah Nah Kaw... Good to know.
I was thinking of every character in Ballz could do what Shang Tsung could, but they could stay that way for the whole match if you wanted to.
Mortal Kombat actually has several move stealers. Shang Tsung wasn't even the only one from the first game, since Reptile there just used Scorpion and Sub-Zero's moves. Not sure if the MKII secret fighters count, since they all are more of palette swaps (of Scorpion and Kitana), but in Trilogy there's Chameleon and Khameleon, who use all the male and female ninjas' moves, respectively, cycling through them randomly. Those two returned in Armageddon and had set movesets, which were still stolen from the fighters they emulated before. Shinnok was also a move stealer in MK4, his only power being to "impersonate" the rest of the roster (basically Shang Tsung without the fireballs or soul stealing, and without transforming). Quan Chi is of note in 4 due to being able to steal a fatality from his opponent. You also have two characters in Deception that fit the bill. Main hero Shujinko takes moves from a bunch of other fighters during his storyline, and never has his own unique one. As well, the character of Kira uses a combination of Sonya and Kano's moves, basically a stand-in for both those characters not being on the roster, though she maintains these when those two return along with everyone else in Armageddon (even Jarek, the Kano copycat, got his own moves in that game). And of the Netherrealm era, Triborg might be considered the cyborg version of Chameleon and Khameleon, though he doesn't work the same way (though it could only be in X--we'll never know if things will change unless he returns for another game).
Honorable mention goes to Smoke, who has a reputation in the Mortal Kombat community for stealing moves, despite not being nearly the same as the others mentioned.
hello mr TTL. Just to let you know, even though I have notifications turned on , sometimes it skips giving me a notification for you for some reason? for like a month or so. they need to fix that.
That's really unfortunate. A lot of viewers have mentioned this and I wish I had a good solution. No idea how to solve it outside of checking the channel every other week since that's my general.
13:08 sir, it’s KARATE*. Judo is a grappling based fighting style.
It's funny because I made a Judo and Karate fighting game list back-to-back a few years ago and I was going off of memory about which style video Hitomi was on, so I was definitely thinking of the wrong list of that duo.
@@MrTopTenList Mistakes happen. We ain’t perfect. They’re both Japanese arts that both wear kimono style uniforms, so I can understand getting them confused in a video game context.
Love your lists
Thank you!
Are Gill and Seth in SFV or is that a mod? I fell off of Street Fighter after the last update of Ultra Street Fighter IV.
They're actually in SFV. At the end of the second to last season, they added the other bosses of the series.
i think these are called composite characters.
in Super DBZ, Cell is considered the best in the game and has other character’s moves to pick on his skill tree and has a move where he can steal the opponent’s move mid match.
This dude makes the best video especially when his cohost is his mama.
13:13 don't mind me
Great video homie
I go to UA-cam for all my main watching needs. Twitch is just for Critical Role and Gartic Phone streams and twitter to see what the gossip is.
Nice 👍
Love characters like these
Rogue is So gorgeous I really like 😍😍😍😍 her Accent And I really like it when she says hey Sugar
I wouldn't mind rogue giving me a good night sugah lol
I think Yoshimitsu from Tekken 4 would has been on a list since he can also copy moves as well from his move "Soul Stealer"
normally Yoshimitsu doesn't have move but there was an easter egg against Bryan Fury in Tekken 7 he can taunt.
Said Honoka's name sooooo wrong 😅😅😅
Is it just a new york accent or so what? Did he not Know?
1:37 Fang: Don't lump me in with those losers, I was in that one Game Gear game where Knuckles was still a bad guy for some reason.
22:20 Oh you totally have to watch DBZ Abridged (especially the Cell Arc) if you haven't already.
i'm guessing this is different than this list as far as these characters go. Kenshi having the same psychic moves as ermac as he taught them to kenshi. Kira from MK deception/Armageddon had 2 of Sonya's moves as well as the kanoball special move and she used the same weapon style as one of the other fighters too just a different weapon. also what about shujinko? he copied special moves from the main characters on the roster. scorpion's spear subzero's freeze, liu kang's bicycle kick etc...
Shang Tsung ftw
Necrid was Basically Soul Calibur version of Edge Master and DC. Green Lanturn.
Easily the coolest archetype in all of fighting games.
Metal sonic showing up scared the shit out of me i hate that rat bastard
Rouge should get this power back in the next fighting game.
Necrid over Edgemaster or Inferno is very confusing. I barely remember the character. Cool list tho, thx for the hard work.
Glad you enjoyed. Edge Master and Inferno just copy a random moveset rather than actively turn into the opponent or copy assorted moves in the game like Necrid, so they'd fall into the same category as Mokujin, where they're "mimic" characters, so they would be considered for a list on those types of characters.
@@MrTopTenList What an excellent answer, and now I would have to say I agree. Much respect.
Combot in Tekken tag 2
I'd argue Super Dragon Ball Z deserves an honorable mention, too, as a game where every character has the opportunity to have a stolen move from another member of the cast via a wish on the Dragon Balls. And I think Cell could also temporarily learn moves mid-match, if memory serves.
That is a very cool feature! Super DBZ is definitely an underrated classic of DBZ games when the Budokai and BT series were getting all the video game spotlight.
