@kollie79 Generic and ambiguous tournament plot lines are part of the problem. They do little or nothing to make a good story or flesh out the characters, especially since 90% of arcade mode stories in fighting games end up non-canon and irrelevant. I'd rather have badly written NRS storyline than just sticking with generic tournament plots that aren't about anything. Most fighting game franchises have moved beyond tournament arcs/stories since the mid 90s (with Soul Calibur, Samurai Shodown and every ArcSys games never having any in the first place). Even Street Fighter 2 wasn't about a tournament (the World Warrior tournament was just a front for Shadoloo in their usual world domination goals). That's why all adaptations of SF2 ignore the tournament altogether.
The only thing I would change from your version is Necalli's role. I'd have him be part of Ryu's journey, like the original. He could be another warrior who fell to the Satsui no Hado. He is the corrupted form or something. Akuma fell to it, yes, but he accepted it, he controls it. Necalli could be the mindless version of it. And he is here to drag Ryu to that point.
@@donaldfreeman1589 yes and no. Kage is Ryu's Dark Hadou given form, not a warrior himself. Necalli would be a warrior (maybe the original Satsui no Hadou user, just to give more impact to their fight) fully consumed by the Dark energy, that's why he doesn't speak like a normal person.
Sounds interesting and would give the Satsui No Hadou a world view as it is a part of other killing arts that would drive anyone to the brink of madness and bloodlust.
@@DoihaDX This is ungodly late but it'd also make Necalli's loss and subsequent death more impact, as the first one to be consumed by the darkness within him and twisted into something more beast than man has finally been granted peace
I was so pissed off when Chun needed to be saved all the time and didnt get to defeat Bison. Heck Ryu was the person I least wanted to defeat him, Chun and Nash have so much more story attatched to Bison that it makes more sense that one of them would do the job
Not even in anime has this been the case. Neither are strong enough to defeat Bison, unless you expect the power of the human spirit, like a shonen, to be the reason why. Bison has unnatural abilities. Chun-Li and Guile are exceptional fighters, but normal. Ryu has the Setsui no Hado, something that can rival Bison. He has always been the one to defeat Bison, in Street Fighter II and Alpha series for this reason. I think Charlie's death showed it takes much more than prowess to beat him (much as it hurt to see Charlie appear and die for no reason, even though he didn't seem enthusiast to be alive either).
I get why Ryu was the one who they used, he is the main character. The problem is for the main character he has the least steaks in this fight. Bison is just another stepping stone on his journey compared to those who have a true score to settle with him.
I really like your ideas. Its much more well thought out, and gives everyone their own time to shine. Everyone has their own arcs, and conclusions. As not everyone felt like they needed to be in this one story. Ryu always felt like he's in his own story apart from the Shadowloo shenanigans. So having him star in his own story mode makes sense. And Karin hosting a tournament is kinda of an easy way to include all these fighters with little explanation, so it works! We all knew this game was ment to tie up loose ends with the lore of street fighter, but all capcom did was just butcher the lore. The story was so bad, I don't even think I want to consider it canon.
Umm, every moddable game has mods that better than the core game. It's a rule not an exception. Therefore, is there something wrong with every moddable game?
I think the worst thing is how they really didn't explain Ryu's new power of nothingness plot bit to the uninitiated. Like you described it; Ryu just apparently walked out of the hyperbolic time chamber for his second match with Necali, and showdown with Bison. It would've been nice to explain what conquering the dark hadou meant, especially since its been a very intergal part of Ryu's arc from Alpha to SFIII. This was Capcom's chance to show the jump Ryu had made from being burdened by it in SFIV to being mostly free of it in SFIII.
it eluded to explaining it at the end of IV, and seemed like it would be the focus in V. That didn't happen, they just left it as unexplained as before. I don't even think the animations help, as even past films have had him reach further within past the hadou and achieve the same. It's simply Ryu finding a balance in light and darkness, as present in most Eastern mindset and culture. The whole Yin-Yang thing. I imagine Nothingness is the neutral zone, between his good and evil side...but this doesn't make sense for logical reasons, but I won't rant on that.
I hate the cheap story board animations, they used for the character's story mode's,the story of V as a whole is a big mess though, shadow falls was rushed,it didn't have enough character development and it messed up a lot of the street fighter continuity example:bison and shadaloo being destroyed by chun li according the sf3,yet v shows ryu to be the one who brought bison and shadaloo to an end.
But it does 100x more for story progression than SFIV, which was a giant pile of nothing. At least a Shadow falls ties up the Shadaloo arc, introduced Illuminati (finally) and Neo shadaloo..
I think that Necali is just a worse version of Tekken's Ogre. It is a fair comparison because both are aztec "gods" whose purpose is to absorb the souls of strong fighters. At least Ogre managed to kill some key characters that changed the story. Ogre mortally wounded Baek, which prompted Hwoarang to enter the tournament, he killed King 1 and is the reason why Heihachi is doing the tournament. However, the biggest impact he had was "killing" Jun Kazama, which changed Jin and affected his whole future by taking away one of the few people that could help him control the Devil Gene. What Necali does in the story? Tries to beat some fighters but doesn´t manage to do anything significant. His only meaningful fight is against Ryu, and Ryu's character progression would have happened without Necali's interference, because I´m sure it would still happen in his fight against Bison.
Yeah I totally took Necalli as a Capcom ripoff of Ogre seriously though with the whole Aztec warrior/god like being trying to absorb fighters similar to what Ogre was doing but managing to kill off King I, Kuma I, presumed killing Baek and Bruce both returned in T5 alive n well, killed Jun this is also showcased that he knows some of these character’s moves too I also liked how they bought him back in the T5 Devil Within how he had a 3rd giant form called Monstrous Ogre some people argue whether that was canon or not but I say and think it was because it ties in with Jin’s prologue in T5 being that Devil Within happened between end of T4/ before T5 I was even hoping this final version of Ogre would be playable in TTT2 along with Azazel but no such luck. I also want to add Kotal Kahn from MKX is an Ogre ripoff but more so appearance wise rather than character plus Ed Boon is a notable Tekken fan.
Yeah probably could have been, some people have accused him being an Ogre ripoff but his appearance likely could have been influenced by Aztec culture, overall though I actually like the Kotal Kahn kharacter people bitched about him cause they assumed he was suppose to be the next Shao Kahn but that would have been predictable, cliche and lackluster making him a neutral less powerful kharacter made his debut interesting and not another bland rehash one of the only new comers of MKX I actually liked along with Kung Jin.
Clearly Ryu shouldn't have been the one to kill bison. It should have been a completely unforeshadowed appearance by Akuma, who slides in from offscreen and kills Bison outright for no reason, and then ryu has to fight him! Yes I'm being sarcastic.
it was understood Ryu was overcoming the Satsui no hado, and training in which would be the power of nothingness. Necalli was wasted as a character for such buildup in promotion. Just some guy that wants Devour Hour.
Ken would have been that person way before her. She is far too young and inexperienced, but they make her way above just Sakura's rival, which was an imbalance to me.
The4thSnake i don’t know, because you managed to rework a lot of the story in a way that fits. This is up there with one of my favorites, the other being the MKX and Injustice videos. It’s impressive how you come up with ideas better than the ones the devs went with. I like the individual character ones, but tackling entire stories is just impressive. Most would just sit back and ask “why?” or “what?”. You aren’t just questioning story elements. You’re reworking them in a fitting manner. I like the what could have been👍
6:47 Ah heck yeah, let's go T. Hawk!! But for real though, it kind of felt weird that T. Hawk didn't even get a mention in the story mode when Juli and Noembelu, characters connected to T.Hawk were there.
@@jonathantyner171 I agree. The only way Chun Li should ever be done wrong, is by smashing her via a one night stand, and not calling her in the morning😅
As a guy who follows the story in fighting games I completely agree!!! Especially the T.Hawk bit!!! Only in an alternative universe we get something this beautiful. As of now we can only add T.Hawk in season 4’s story expansion where maybe the dolls were captured again by Ed’s “Neo Shadaloo” and Hawk has a revamped moveset.
I would add a bit more character development to Birdie, make him slightly more than a gag character. In his Alpha 3 ending, Birdie enters the psycho drive to gain its power, but it becomes too much for him and he almost dies from it. He claims it felt like a thousand suns incinerating his body and soul. So much power coursed through his veins and he felt insanity chipping away at his mind - the very power that Bison and Akuma wish to wield. He had never felt anything like this before in his life, and the experience from being in the psycho drive was so intense that it traumatized him, causing him to spiral into a deep depression that makes him resort to comfort eating, which is why he became so fat all of a sudden. Ibuki ends up feeling sorry for him and trying to help him snap out of it. Some stuff happens and in the end, he learns that life is something to be cherished and ends up helping the others take down Shadaloo before they can destroy the world.
i absolutely feel that more characters from 3 should’ve been in 5 to connect the two better. because of how little bearing charlie has on the story, remy could’ve filled his spot on the roster as the new sonic boom user. q could’ve taken necali’s place as the “mysterious nobody monster”, etc. but you’re far better than me at this kinda shit and im just a 3s fanboy. great video as always!!
Well thought off story, and ties perfectly with Chun-Li own story in SF3. (In your take of the story it makes sense again to call her the "legendary legs that took down that organization")
Yesss. I've been waiting for you to cover Charlie! Man it was just a drag to see him go out the way he did. He's my favorite character and only to see him die again but in such a meaningless kamikazi death wish... Was just unsatisfactory. At least his SFV arcade mode comic panel ending suggests that he dies in Guile's arms.
Wasted Potential: Fighting Games Great video though. Don't always agree with everything you say, but it always makes me rethink my own thoughts. Good on ya
@@The4thSnake Not really on this one. Although I am one of the very few who did enjoy SFV's story, you are 100% right in all the problems and weird pacing issues and "Ryu-ExMachina" that the game has, that bring it down. I do like how you provide a fix for the issues presented as well while still keeping the story beats the same. Most of the time when I disagree with you, it's stuff to do with comics, because I am the kind of dork who enjoys "dark alternate futures where everybody is dead". But even when I don't agree, you back your stuff up with lot's of research, so it keeps it very well written and interesting to watch.
They should have retired some if they were going to go they way they did or leave out the story being so much a focus (if going to tell it badly). Many just wouldn't have played a part, but they tried to shove as many in as possible, which made it confusing and silly.
I like your version definitely over Capcom's, however I would retire Guile here after the downfall of Shadowloo and his closure with Charlie. In the Udon comics his relationship with his wife and child(or children they aren't that clear) is deeply strained because of his obsession with avenging Charlie. With Guile's mission finally complete I would have him return to his estranged family Rambo style, ready to finally put his past behind him and become the family man he always lectured his brother in law Ken to be. Not everybody would be excited to have Guile return however, specifically his rebellious son Remy(from 3rd strike) who resents his father due to the death of his sister in his absence causing him to runaway to Paris. Guile's new mission would be to bring to his only child home and repair their relationship. This would not only explain his ability to use sonic booms and flash kicks but also tie in perfectly with Remy's characterization in 3rd strike. Also it gives them the ability to bring Guile back as a character in any future installments.
i had a theory regarding Remy's similarities to Guile and Nash's style. the gist of it is. At some point Nash wanting to improve himself as a fighter once travelled to France and learn Savate from a french soldier (maybe the same one who was tasked with looking after Abel or maybe Remy's missing dad). Nash adjusts what he learns to his MCMAP style creating the style he teaches Guile.
1:00 Well, the Black Moons are mentioned in Gill's ending in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact. 6:47 I never heard of Juli/Julia being explicitly the lover of T.Hawk, just that she's connected to him. I just hope that the holes in the SFV story will be filled in the Cinematic Story Vol.2 (if Capcom decide to act instead of sleeping or whatever)
Sure, Nether Realm stories may not be perfect (they're stories giving context as to why people are beating the living tar out of each other, did you expect Shakespearean quality?), but at least they have a consistent pace, unlike Street Fighter and Tekken's story modes, which just jump all over the place besides just swapping out characters to play as and just bring up pointless storylines that don't really go anywhere. Not that I'm saying SF or TK are bad games, just have bad stories is all.
MK has a more divided fanbase than Tekken and SF for one there are people whom liked and or didn’t mind the 3D era, some fans that hate Netherrealm studios timeline in terms of story eitherway, while there people whom like both for different reasons, then there those who like 2D hate the 3D, vice versa etc I personally think SFV is better than Tekken 7, MK9 and MKX. The problem with new MK story is the whole character centric chapter gameplay outside of a character’s chapter 9/10 chance they will never win a fight outside of cutscenes and will job out every fight making it more inconsistent, jumping from fighter to fighter lets you play as the canonic winning fighter of that event making the story more consistent and characters in terms of scaling power ain’t no way Stryker is beating someone like Kintaro but he does and at times characters do face each other again only for contradicting outcomes from before such as Smoke beating Sektor only for Sektor to own Smoke in a cutscene later as an example this is why I think SFV is more competent in terms of gameplay in story but this story is no where near perfect either having a handful of flaws too and could have been WAY better particularly the execution of certain characters like Guile, Chun Li, Cammy, Fang etc giving them better show ins and not crowbarring Ryu into the final event segment he had nothing to do with that other characters were more entitled to. New MK game looks good I’m only playing it for it’s gamplay enhancements and have low expectations from its story I’ll admit though MKX had more competent story telling than MK9 so maybe there is a chance of some redemption from MK11 who knows.
God, after finishing this video, I'm so FUCKING PISSED we live in the timeline where Capcom is so dogshit at storytelling. This is such a better story in every way it hurt my heart that not only is the actual story no where close to this good, but I don't think Capcom is EVER going to treat its characters with the same respect...
Hell f**king yeah man! Chunli killing bison is exactly what I wanted most after playing that crazy storymode. I legit thought Ryu was going to have his dragon ball z ass fight with Necali when the story trailers came out. Had me thinking some one else could kill bison for once.
First off, I have to say, big fan. And secondly, wow, your rewrite of the story was fantastic! Seriously, this is what SF5's story mode should have been, 3 smaller arcs that connect into each other with the big arc being Anti Shadaloo taking down Bison. Not to mention having the correct people to be taking down Bison, Chun-Li and Guile. It pisses me off so much knowing that those two got sidelined because Ryu is "The Main Character" He is just a fight hobo at the end of the day. This this story Guile gets to have closure with Charlie, and Chun-Li gets to take Bison down like the lore tells us she is supposed to. I don't get it man, Capcom had all of this written down, was it really that hard to just have a "Lore Master" and make sure plot point for characters get wrapped up or lead into the next game chronologically?
It would be awesome if this is another timeline as well as being the original, but ingrid going back into past changed things. It also reveals ingrid made pandora in street fighter x tekken and it was a seal to psycho power or chest.Chum li defeating bison was the original timeline but pandora crashing in the arctic and ingrid going back in time to retrieve it messed things up and shadoloo changed plans now when what would be bisons defeat for good.
Excellent video man. Where do I begin? Even though I partially liked some of the moments in ASF and hope they keep adding storymodes to future instalments, I agree that there was a lot more that they could have done. Great editing, I loved the edited footage that used the extra costumes, it really added to the experience. For making Charlie's fate have impact, you already have my respect. I kept waiting for there to be a great connection. I mean dang, when Chuck is walking out of the flames, it was supposed to be a moment we've been waiting for for ages. Guile NEVER gave up hope looking for Charlie and here he is, obviously damaged and unwell, but there's nothing said between them for the most part. I was at least hoping for them to share a moment before he died again (my hope before ASF came out was that he'd find a way to live as a tragic hero but with some hope in the future.) Your take with him and Guile reuniting and ultimately revealing his last name was a great touch. It'd be kind of nice if it was a slightly embarrassing name and they had one last laugh at it. Even the arcade mode ending felt the need to have Charlie see Bison destroyed so he could rest in peace. Him exploding and Bison shrugging it off, undamaged really didn't sit well with me at all. Reducing Karin is a necessity. I have no idea why she was the leader. I can understand them teaming up and her being some sort of benefactor or her house being a place for the heroes to gather, but she had more involvement and authority in this than Interpol, MI6 and the Armed Forces. Chun Li definitely needed a bigger role and your ideas were satisfying. I get Ryu is the poster boy for the series, but he can have a story or stories where he's featured, but his story should be smaller and more personal. It can dip its toes into the main story without overtaking it. Him and Bison never had the strongest of personal connections in comparison to several of the roster. Excellent and surprising addition to T. Hawk I wouldn't have Necalli as another body for Bison, but I'd have him as a strictly Ryu (and Dhalsim since he's helping him out) foe. I hang out with some guys on SRK.com and we talk about lore, but some of them had the idea that Necalli was a warrior driven insane by the SNH. It's said that if you surrender all control, you become a rampaging beast. As crazy as Akuma is, he never completely lost it. Have something draw his attention, maybe he was sealed up and Shadaloo's Black Moons plot unleashes him and he hunts down Ryu because of the SNH that's he's been struggling with forever. Ryu ultimately puts the SNH behind him as he defeats Necalli and we move forward. I'd love if they had a season 2 setup with G watching the news coverage of the world in chaos or epilogue as the world is trying to pick itself back up after the Black Moons incident and the resulting EMP. Him in shadow watching TV and saying something like "the world's been broken, but it's also been freed. It's time for us to become one." would be fun. Anyways, rambling, sorry. Great video and great ideas. I'd love to see a re-do on ASF done like this. I've defended story modes in games for decades and I feel it can be done correctly, just a little more, we're in the winning stretch.
You know, you're not the first person to suggest the SNH Necali idea. Both ideas could be combined. Maybe it's a SNH user that Bison had captured to use as a body, all the hard work of mastering the Hadou having already been done for him.
@@The4thSnake Yeah, I think that could work nicely! Bison, finally sick of trying to get Ryu, finds something more horrible and unpredictable by way of Necalli as a final, desperate measure, and things go crazy from there lol. The sad thing is I love Necalli's design, but he really was super out there with his mud-symbiote origins and he jobbed constantly. He could've been really something awesome, but they dropped the ball.
I think Ryu defeating Bison was to fulfill a plot point brought up in Alpha 3 and referenced in IV. Namely, that Rose, a fortune-teller, tells Ryu that he is not strong enough to defeat "that man" aka Bison. He could win, but at the cost of his soul. This is referenced again in IV during Ryu and Rose's rival battle where she refers to him as their "last hope." Part of me also thinks it was to close off his darkness problem in a "satisfying" conclusion, to explain why it isn't a problem in III. Not trying to justify Ryu being the hero of SFV, it is just my theory as to why they had him defeat Bison, besides the poster boy stuff. This is one of my favorite WPs and I'd love to see more Street Fighter ones.
In your version of the story, make Guiles first name Charles. That way it not only surprises but it shows why he goes by Guile instead, its so that he doesnt clash with his best friend and both can easily tell which one is being spoke to. My name is very common so ive actually had to do with with close friends before
Oh I can't believe I missed this video. I'm a fan of Street Fighter and I was so disappointed in the mess that was SFV's story. They put all this effort into actually making a story but then screw it up. I love this rewrite. It handles everything in such a better way. I especially love what you did with Charlie because gosh dangit the fact that they brought him back and then wasted it still pisses me off.
Another AWOL body of Bison being Necalli is actually worse. Because we have so many AWOL Bison bodies e.g. Ed, Falke, Abel, Cammy and Seth. Also visually makes no sense comparing Necalli by design to the other spare bodies. Necalli is pretty much Ogre of street fighter he doesn’t need to be another Bison body
@@vagabondgunmen2218 will we see Necalli again in SF6? If not? The spare body story fits. If yes.. Then it needs explaination as to (1) why is he a discount akuma story ripoff? (2) what he is he? in the realistic world he is the only magical being.
Ok firstly, realistic and street fighter? look at characters like twelve, Necro, Gill, Dhalsim or even Kage (pretty much an angry ghost) so don’t agree with that at all. Necalli is a being which appears in times of crisis to take the power of the strongest warriors. Akuma is the master of the fist and only really battles to prove he has no equal. Necalli is the Ogre of street fighter. Also look at all the other Bison bodies and then look at Necalli and how him being a spare body doesn’t work since it would literally make him just like Seth who is far different in every way. Bison clearly has a ‘type of look’ of body he favours as a spare
Want to know something very sad? The SFV story is pretty close to the USA Street Fighter cartoon with the street fighters acting more as some anti shadowloo organization than you know, ACTUAL Street Fighters.
Very awesome stuff. I was actually trying to come up with an SFV rewrite within the confines of the game's plot myself. I gotta say, yours is really good. Though I would definitely take more inspiration from the UDON comics storyline, as that actually sets out a perfect overarching storyline for the series - with some minor discrepancies that come with it being written before SFV came out.
Yes finally great to hear your insights I have the similar thoughts my biggest complaints were the burying of characters like Guile, Chun Li and Cammy accomplish nothing of significance even though they are more than entitled to being the ones taking down Shadaloo than Ryu, at least Chun Li beat Fang once now Guile flat out had no notable victory other than flooring a random Shadaloo doll but jobbed out to Vega there was no focus on Guile and Charlie interacting I get it Charlie has a uneasy sense of betrayal, nihilism, vendetta over everything else so on his part he would shut off his past allies but you’d expect Guile attempt to interact more help his friend out, Charlie’s treatment was bad he should have been the one to take out M Bison or at least with his sacrifice weaken out Bison for Guile to get his revenge with the help of Chun Li, Cammy and Juri the ones who truly deserve to have their revenge you could have had Juri set her differences with Chun Li aside and join her while in the climax still have their rivalry, overall they made it seem like Charlie’s hardship and effort was all for nothing it was such a let down. Fang though I like this character his show in wasn’t good going around jobbing right and left this is suppose to the second in command of Shadaloo replacement of Sagat, you wouldn’t see Sagat jobbing out to Rashid, Ken, Karin, Chun Li and whom else may have been. Also that part in the story where Ibuki and R Mika are on the base and Balrog jobs out twice though you can argue he was holding back and messing around still those characters are bottom tier and Balrog is 1 of the 4 Kings Of Shadaloo he should have one shotted these characters effortlessly, now Zangief is a Mid tier character so its understandable he can hold his own against a boss character like Balrog or Vega but not R Mika or Ibuki. Karin being in charge was ridiculous too he has no beef with Shadaloo other than a quarrel of them being totalitarian bad guys that want world domination. Last but not least Necalli total piss poor villain had potentially but instantly went south when he jobbed out to Dhalsim then spents the story running around all over the place until he loses to Ryu being that this victory didn’t seem like a significant gain thus not giving proper closure to Ryu hence being crowbarred into taking out M Bison, they’d have been better off bringing Akuma back for Ryu’s arc making Ryu learn the Power of Nothingness and fight on par with Base Akuma giving Ryu slight closure until Akuma decides to go Shin Akuma and owns Ryu making it a continuing segment for the next game Ryu trying to master the Power of Nothingness so he can beat Shin Akuma whilst Guile, Chun Li, Cammy and Juri have defeated M Bison and Shadaloo shortly after as Gill and the Illumanati are scheming behind the shadows for the next game obviously.
I’m glad that you actually made this. I feel as though the story should’ve been pretty easy to craft for Capcom; keeping the characters that connect with each other in the same story. Tbh I kinda wish they made Charlie the main character of 5, like how Alex was in SF3
If I could, I would use your version of the story to recreate the SF5 path for the Arcade Mode, with the final boss depending on the group of characters you pick.
Honestly I'm not too big of an SF fan when I played shadow falls (only SF game I really play is Third Strike) and I didn't know the backstory of who takes down shadowloo and that ending still let me down. Like previously mentioned, Nash's sacrifice pissed me off even if I didn't really care. The trailers/cinematic intro implyed that his last attempt to beat Bison would be intregral to his defeat. Good vid
Yeah, the story was kinda shitty indeed. I kinda wished they'd make another story mode focusing on something that could possibly lead to SF3. Apparently, M Bison's soul is still around but only as Phantom Bison. I don't possibly know what's gonna happen in SF6 though. Is it gonna focus on Phantom Bison, Neo Shadaloo, or the Illuminati? It does need to take place after 3 though. Capcom needs to explain everything that happened after it. If it's gonna be another SF3 prequel, cancel it. And not to mention, bring back everything that SF3 had. Parry's, block and stun meters, and super art selection.
Agreed, it's been hanging forever and things were amping up. Alex clearly has some sort of destiny, Urien is possibly successful in overthrowing Gill in his ending. They can continue going forward, bring back the 3s cast, add in some missing favs and new characters and bam. SF6 is cooking with Gas. We've seen a lot of Shadaloo's plans, structure, leadership, but we know so little about the Illuminati, I'd love to see more. (Also, more G and or Q could be fun).
Did you use the alternate costumes as what you'd think the characters should look like in your version? Because that's a pretty cool way to present your ideas. Nice Job. I also wanted to add some ideas as well. Since, Cody is DLC maybe he could be a part of the tournament, Sean could become Ken's student by having a scenario with Sean training with Laura after Sean saw Ken fight Laura which shows Ken that Sean has potential, Nash saying he wants to be called Charlie from now on, Sean and Laura establishing a caring/goofy brother and sister relationship, Guile's first name being Jonathan or Chris, etc.
yea the story for 5 sucked. I really hated that ryu came out of no here to kill bison when chun li should've done that. She actually has a personal reason to do so and it would've been so much more gratifying. Basically everything you said would've made for a way better story as it made sense.
Some cool interesting ideas here! Although I would prefer for Necalli to be his own thing and not a spare body for Bison. Necalli would have been a very interesting new villain/final boss but it cannot work if we have Bison being around as well. Too many major villains and you lose focus xD I might be in the minority here but I also disagree a bit with killing of Charlie :P I think it would be more interesting for him to fake his death and leaving both his previous life with Guile & friends behind and escaping away from the illuminati, perhaps going rogue but being a good guy-anti-hero. Like, finding his own way, perhaps continue fighting, travelling all over the globe and helping people in trouble but now hidden in the shadows. (And we can keep him alive for further sequels haha)
Loved this video. For the record, I haven’t played any SF game (but planning on picking up one of the games somehow in the near future). But as I watched, I always felt like Ryu and Bison had a weird dynamic since SFII considering where they were placed by the creators in the story and world, so I think it makes sense for you to put Chun-Li in the leading role in this story. Considering Ryu and Bison are the poster boy/“main hero” and the main villain of the series, the two don’t have much reason to fight each other. I think in the SFII movie they ultimately fought because Bison was trying to...acquire Ryu’s body? Defeat him? Maybe they should’ve explored that angle in SFV, to justify Ryu fighting him in the end? But that still overshadows Chun-Li’s desire to defeat Bison as well as Guile/Nash. I don’t know if it will work or not, but could they make Akuma the final boss in a potential SFVI?
I'm still flummoxed that fans' assumed role for Necalli in the story--the overwhelmingly popular assumption that he's an ancient force revived by Shadaloo and gone rogue--was miles better than Capcom's actual plan. Just another jobber.
Don't kill off Nash. He gained a new power in sfv which grants him the ability to steal power from others (tragedy assault move steals meter and v-skill absorbs projectiles). Keep Nash final confrontation with Bison the same. He does the power stealing move he does in the story to Bison which causes that explosion. Nash is incapacitated, but it is revealed he survived. By stealing Bison's psycho power, Nash's time on earth has been extended but he now suffers the consequence of having Bison's soul targeting his body (much like Ed) and having to prevent sucumbing to Bison's power and will. This would lead into sf6 or the rumored new cinematic story mode that is coming this year which is rumored to feature Ed (neo-shadaloo) and G heavily. Nash would meet with Ed, at first assuming he's like Bison and doomed to repeat his mistakes, but eventually learning that Ed is a good guy who is trying to do the exact same thing he is doing. They learn to control the psycho power. The power that is keeping Nash alive. This would keep Nash an active player in the story and not dismiss the character yet again. He'd become an anti-hero. Someone who shares Guile's goal, but not his method. I think it's a shame to kill Nash off, especially since his return was a big deal in sfv. PlusI don't want to wait another 20 years to see him return.
They could bring back Nash in the form of Twelve. Nash was stated to be gathering combat data for Twelve, who becomes sentient in its 3rd Strike ending. Maybe it received Nash's memory.
I would keep everyone alive especially Charlie and keep Ryu as final character (or as one of selectable in final battle). I would say if you can't make a good story mode then just make good old arcade endings where fans piece things together themselves.
That's where I thought sf4 had a more well thought out story. You were basically playing each characters story in specific roles they provided to the overall plot. Chunli acquires information in one story, Abel learns his origins in another, and ryu and sakura blow up a generator in another story. They all tied together while giving everyone their own story to tell.
Good stuff. Very much in like with DigiValentine's videos and ABI's Abitorials, although I think your version of Laura's fix is better.
Wow. This really means a lot to me. Thank you so much!
@Върбанов Haha, on what? The Akamatsuverse timeline? The wasted story potential of Love Hina?
I forget "UA-cam celebrities" watch each other's stuff. Makes me feel... I don't know.
It's really sad you aren't getting paid millions for writing these better stories.
Y’all should make a game together I would pay for that
It's shocking how bad fighting game companies STILL are at telling effective stories with their own 20+ year old franchises
@Pitch Black Wings So true.
Such wasted potential!
Snk seem to be the only ones who can do it right
I LOVED YOUR VERSION OF THE STORY. Now I'm sad because the base game didn't have something even simlilar to it.
NarakunoHana100 I find myself feeling this way with a lot of his Wasted Potential videos 😓
@@makusei24 Yeah same.
Ooh, that's good.
Ain't That Kage?
The fact that they didn't use the battle damaged Bison suit for the final battle is such a dissapointment
If he walked out of the smoke like that, Charlie's death wouldn't feel so wasted.
I’m glad there are fans like you who take the time to do this sort of thing because it shows me what mistakes not to make in whatever story I write
I was so pissed off when Chun needed to be saved all the time and didnt get to defeat Bison. Heck Ryu was the person I least wanted to defeat him, Chun and Nash have so much more story attatched to Bison that it makes more sense that one of them would do the job
skurinski I think Guile and Chun Li should be the one to defeat Bison since they have so much hatred towards him.
*Please work for Capcom. The hero we need.*
When mods are better than your core game, somethings wrong.
Umm, every moddable game has mods that better than the core game. It's a rule not an exception. Therefore, is there something wrong with every moddable game?
Not really, that only says the opposite in my eyes
I think it says something that Legend of Chun Li is the only continuity where Chun Li actually kills Bison.
thank you for giving chun li justice 😩😭👏🏻
I shall now live the rest of my days considering this video as canon.
Goodbye.
Dude you're a true Street Fighter fan. You really know your stuff. You should have been the writer of this game.
That would bring the writer count to one. I'm sure they just fed info to an ai for the plot!
I hate the cheap story board animations, they used for the character's story mode's,the story of V as a whole is a big mess though, shadow falls was rushed,it didn't have enough character development and it messed up a lot of the street fighter continuity
example:bison and shadaloo being destroyed by chun li according the sf3,yet v shows ryu to be the one who brought bison and shadaloo to an end.
But it does 100x more for story progression than SFIV, which was a giant pile of nothing. At least a Shadow falls ties up the Shadaloo arc, introduced Illuminati (finally) and Neo shadaloo..
They did Chun Li dirty. I want to forget this game ever existed.
His only meaningful fight is against Ryu, and Ryu's character progression would have happened without Necali's interference, because I´m sure it would still happen in his fight against Bison.
necalli was fated to consume ryu, bison and dhalsim. what if he succeeded against dhalsim?
@@corpsedesecrator2612 Yeah, Kotal Kahn may be inspired by aztec culture, but he is his own character.
Anything is better than necali being a jobber
Guile and Charlie should be the main focus
it obviously the bison saga so totally make sense guile, charlie, chun li and other relate to bison should became the main characters of that saga.
Also a great retcon, Chun-Li wears that. 🤔
I preferred her skirt suit outfit and her wedding dress
Clearly Ryu shouldn't have been the one to kill bison. It should have been a completely unforeshadowed appearance by Akuma, who slides in from offscreen and kills Bison outright for no reason, and then ryu has to fight him!
Yes I'm being sarcastic.
it was understood Ryu was overcoming the Satsui no hado, and training in which would be the power of nothingness.
Necalli was wasted as a character for such buildup in promotion. Just some guy that wants Devour Hour.
Hell, even UDON managed to write a consistent comic in the story gap between SF IV and SF III
The story for SFV disappointed me so much, and this video made it worse. Thanks. Subbed.
I thought Karin had more to do with the story cuz of her families ties with shadaloo. Her family use they power and money to help get rid of shadaloo
Ken would have been that person way before her. She is far too young and inexperienced, but they make her way above just Sakura's rival, which was an imbalance to me.
Capcom has a bad habit of bringing in more questions than answers.
the end result is totally mess neither good or bad.
Especially with 'Street Fighter 6' (as of Season 2), which largely skims over what happened to the 'SFIII' newcomers after the 10-year time skip.
I do love Ryu but that spotlight of defeating bison should’ve belonged to NashHe did not need to take a spotlight at all
Ugh, Id've forgiven Capcom for how poorly released SFV was if this was the story they gave us instead...
This might be one of the most impressive Wasted Plotentials.
Oh? How so?
Yes! Your version is so so much better, if only it was the canon one!
wait till sf6 redeem that story instead what we just got.
They really fucked up Chun Li in this story. Great vid. It's not hard to outdo capcom in a story about characters they created😂🤣
Capcom always did Chun Li wrong.
Make a petition this guy need to write the story
i absolutely feel that more characters from 3 should’ve been in 5 to connect the two better. because of how little bearing charlie has on the story, remy could’ve filled his spot on the roster as the new sonic boom user. q could’ve taken necali’s place as the “mysterious nobody monster”, etc. but you’re far better than me at this kinda shit and im just a 3s fanboy. great video as always!!
So sad how one person can write better stories than an entire company. #RIP #CharlieNash
Wasted Potential: Fighting Games
Great video though. Don't always agree with everything you say, but it always makes me rethink my own thoughts. Good on ya
Anything you disagree on here?
@@The4thSnake not the op but any/most suggestion concercing gameplay really shows just how bad you are at game.
@@pinkpidgeon6926 Wonderful critique there. "You disliek sumething about teh gameplay, you msut be bad at teh game lol"
@@The4thSnake It sounds like that but when you complaining about how powerful x-rays in mk are you ARE not good at the game.
I'm semi rewriting the whole lore myself on my channel. This is definitely interesting. This game suffers from having too many new characters imo.
Fighting Games, specially a game like SF, with its Diverse Cast from different Origin,
absolutely needs Multiple Stories. 1 Main & few Side Stories.
If Chun-li killed Bison with her ass hanging out, this would be a 10/10 game
YOU should be the one writing these stories. You get it right almost 100% of the time.
Oh, I was waiting a long time for this :F
And you didn't disappoint.
Hawk
I wouldn't have Necalli as another body for Bison, but I'd have him as a strictly Ryu (and Dhalsim since he's helping him out) foe.
I like that your rework of Charlie's story is basically The Winter Soldier which should have been what we got
My name is very common so ive actually had to do with with close friends before
You should be hired as a story writer for these games i swear. Your critiques make so much sense.
Oh I can't believe I missed this video. I'm a fan of Street Fighter and I was so disappointed in the mess that was SFV's story. They put all this effort into actually making a story but then screw it up. I love this rewrite. It handles everything in such a better way. I especially love what you did with Charlie because gosh dangit the fact that they brought him back and then wasted it still pisses me off.
to be honest Guile should've leading role in this game
He's bison arch enemy.
yeap Necali was made out to be a big antagonist in the promo material for V and turned out to be nothing but a bit player
I just want sean playable without mods
Love your version of the story! Capcom should take notes. You give everyone a time to shine.
your Necalli make way sense as a another Bison Clone goes berserk , than ridiculous Fighter Killing Ghost of a Nightmare from Soul Calibur.
Though I would definitely take more inspiration from the UDON comics storyline, as that actually sets out a perfect overarching storyline for the series - with some minor discrepancies that come with it being written before SFV came out.
your ideas are much better, you should be a writer of your own game someday.
Watching this with your Commentary really shows amazing the visuals were and how great it could've been with a different story
This guy did a better story than a god damn COMPANY
Main issue with this story : Not enough Juri.
The character for foot fetish weirdos and neckbeards
I agree! Not enough yuri. (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
....Juri is annoying as hell-
Juri rules.
Juri serves no purpose in plot after Seth. Most characters are just stuck in at this point.
Your alternate version of this game's plot was actually pretty cool!
Thanks.
A very good retelling and I agree with everything said in the video
You need to have a job in street fighter in the story telling department that was fucking awesome
I’m glad that you actually made this. I feel as though the story should’ve been pretty easy to craft for Capcom; keeping the characters that connect with each other in the same story. Tbh I kinda wish they made Charlie the main character of 5, like how Alex was in SF3
As a huge fan of the Street Fighter universe, I approve. Awesome video. These are exactly the same ideas I had.
2:54 Charlie should have either took Bison with him when he died or his sacrifice should have weakened Bison enough for Chun-Li and Guile to kill him.
This was great, and i totally agree that would have been a way better plot and a haven't even played this game yet oof 😶💖
If I could, I would use your version of the story to recreate the SF5 path for the Arcade Mode, with the final boss depending on the group of characters you pick.
A Wasted Plotential on reptile would be good lets make reptile great again
Honestly I'm not too big of an SF fan when I played shadow falls (only SF game I really play is Third Strike) and I didn't know the backstory of who takes down shadowloo and that ending still let me down.
Like previously mentioned, Nash's sacrifice pissed me off even if I didn't really care. The trailers/cinematic intro implyed that his last attempt to beat Bison would be intregral to his defeat.
Good vid
I would hope that this new story still has Zangief busting a sword with his ultra powerful muscles
Thank you for noticing T.Hawk and his personal story against Shadowloo.
I hope sf6 happens right after 3 because we really need to continue that story
Agreed, it's been hanging forever and things were amping up. Alex clearly has some sort of destiny, Urien is possibly successful in overthrowing Gill in his ending. They can continue going forward, bring back the 3s cast, add in some missing favs and new characters and bam. SF6 is cooking with Gas. We've seen a lot of Shadaloo's plans, structure, leadership, but we know so little about the Illuminati, I'd love to see more. (Also, more G and or Q could be fun).
Wish Chun Li stayed in her Alpha costume.
I know her Chinese outfit is iconic, but I like the other better.
You know this says something about SFV's story mode when I completely forgot that Abel has a minor appearance
The game also is a great game with wasted potential and lot of bad decisions, great video btw, Capcom always manage a way to fuck up everything.
It wasn’t even a completed game upon release. Wasted potential from the word go
yea the story for 5 sucked. I really hated that ryu came out of no here to kill bison when chun li should've done that. She actually has a personal reason to do so and it would've been so much more gratifying. Basically everything you said would've made for a way better story as it made sense.
Surprised in this day and age that Cammy can still have her original outfit...
May she keep it for all eternity.
Some cool interesting ideas here! Although I would prefer for Necalli to be his own thing and not a spare body for Bison. Necalli would have been a very interesting new villain/final boss but it cannot work if we have Bison being around as well. Too many major villains and you lose focus xD
I might be in the minority here but I also disagree a bit with killing of Charlie :P I think it would be more interesting for him to fake his death and leaving both his previous life with Guile & friends behind and escaping away from the illuminati, perhaps going rogue but being a good guy-anti-hero. Like, finding his own way, perhaps continue fighting, travelling all over the globe and helping people in trouble but now hidden in the shadows. (And we can keep him alive for further sequels haha)
your version of this story sounds fun
With 6 on the way this was a healthy revisit
Ryu beating Bison was actually foreshadowed back in Rose's story in Super SF4
Post Credit scene: Akuma is holding Kens body after murdering him, as Ryu walks into the forest they're both in
*To be continued*
I know the video is old, but this is definitely a lot more interesting then what we got.
