Waldorf Salad Recipe: The Classic American Waldorf Salad 🇺🇸
Today we are going to show how to make a classic American Waldorf salad recipe, that is made using the key ingredients of apples, grapes, celery and walnuts which are dressed in a creamy mayonnaise dressing. This Waldorf salad recipe was first created in the 1800’s at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City, and is still a firm favourite in many households, especially during the holidays.
To make the best Waldorf Salad recipe you will need:
3 tbs mayonnaise
2 tbs yogurt
salt and black pepper to taste
1-2 tb honey (or sweetener of your choice)
1 cup grapes (green, black or mixed grapes)
red or green apple (or both)
2 x celery sticks
1/2 cup toasted walnuts
optional: raisins, lettuce leaves
To add extra sweetness, we like adding raisins to the salad but you can try adding other dried fruits of your choice. Keep the salad in a fridge for at least an hour before serving as it is best served chilled. Waldorf salad is traditionally served on fresh lettuce leaves and can be enjoyed on it’s own or as a delicious side dish. This salad is really fresh, creamy, and delicious and perfect for the summer.
