There’s a reason those ancient fish are still around. Survivors with a vengeance.
They were here long before humans and will remain long after!
Because those nasty gar kill everything
@@TheExpatCajun their fun to catch but they do eat everything
@@IckyEmporerfishing yes I'm from southern louisiana. And I've seen those things at about 4 ft. They will run off all the other fish. Good they are out of the water. Very invasive. Folks there in gar balls with them. I don't like the taste 😋
@@TheExpatCajun and I don't think any fish is a trash fish I like anything I catch I never do catch n cooks I would love to catch a Garmin I number one mom my bucket list
Dude that Gar was literally saying "thank you" when you returned him to the water! Great job bro! 👌👊💯🎣🐳👍
I hope someone catches the person(s) responsible for killing those majestic fish. I dont have bowfin in my area but i caught one in Florida on vacation.
Dwayne Greene I believe in some places it is illegal to release them after they are caught
@@yaaarightt4127 are you serious bro? Come on man those are Bowfin. Its Asian carp ur probly thinking of. How can you comment that man? 😂
Dwayne Greene my bad snakehead are the ones that are illegal to release some places I get the 2 confused never caught either one
He was probably like damn I'm screwed. And when he put him in the water wad like "see ya suckered not gonna eat me today"
Lifelong hunter and fisherman, nothing is more upsetting than wasting wildlife resources. That should be a crime.
It is
Kinda funny that the life long hunter and fisherman didn’t know that it’s a crime
The fish dead by that spillway was depressing. Could they dredge the middle out? Or to expensive?
Like cutting a baby blue gill in half for bait that caught nothing?
If u do this in switzerland u almost go to jail. Imagine someone doing this to you, so sad and it makes me angry seeing ppl treating animals like that.
Way to go guy for letting Mr Gar see another day.
That’s so sad but you’re incredible for saving the gar
I was totally surprised. After seeing all those dead ones it was cool to see 1 make it. U have a good day 👍
Spoiler alert!
F
2:29 that bluegill got a nose ring lmao
I saw that.
lip ring lol
Fish finally surviving the terrible drought and endless predators:
Bluegill: what am I just some bait for you?
What would have been really sad, and a cruel fate, is if you actually hooked that same poor Gar fish right after throwing it back saving its life
He would let him go again..
I want to see another micro fishing challenge
Heck yeah, the challenges were what got me to subscribe, especially the tiny lure challenge
Ya I’m tired of spillway vids
Same
69th like baby!
Astroz276 5 how could you
That transition at 0:47 was top notch
I didn't notice the first time. Yes, he's good with film making.
My thoughts exactly
It’s legitimately jsut a fade and a simple camera movement
Didn't even notice the 1st time I watched. Had to go back to see ehat you were talking about. He does a great job.
Man, I'd love to spend a day fishing with you! I never had anyone to teach me all the strategies and bait selections when I was young. When I watch your videos, it's like I'm right there with you! You are super cool! Thank you!
3:23 now that's a true fisherman! Good job sir the world needs more men like you
Seeing that gar still alive and returning it to the water would’ve made your day ! Nothing short of a Miracle
Gar have an adapted (vascularized) swim bladder that allows them to breathe air. Handy adaptation for floodplain rivers, but apparently also for surviving encounters with unenlightened anglers. Thanks for helping shine a positive light on native fishes!
'Unenlightened' is putting it very diplomatically. I would say dumb and cruel.
Your video is really beautiful. With the slow shots and the music, the editing you’ve done is apparent and really makes for an enjoyable watch that lends towards true appreciation for nature and fishery habitat. Thank you!
Never seen a Bowfin before. They look like arapima from the Amazon, just smaller
Yellow Bass are my favourite fish!
You should set up a trail cam and try to catch the bowfin murderer and report him for wanton waste.
Your to sensitive
Scott Hall wanton waste is a serious crime. You’re too wasteful. You’re the type a guy to shoot a deer and just leave it.
Scott Hall also it’s you’re*
@@scotthall3644 You're douche.
Scott Hall I am pretty sure that wanting to catch someone murdering a native species isn’t being too sensetive
Thanks for saving that Gar. You're a good man.
And the little bluegill says "I wish I was a gar"
I know , right? I used eat the hell out of some blue guill . We would have starved not for fishing growing up .
You’re a good dude for saving that gar. Well done.
As he is literally chopping up other live fish to use as bait
@@ryanjeffries3407 beat me too it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
A freaking gar? Y'all are nutty.
Man I'm early. Your channel should have million views or subs from The amount of work you put in these videos. Great content! That grave yard of dead fish was sad.. 😢
I hope someone catches the ppl responsible for killing those bowfin. Why even fish if u dont even respect the outdoors right? Its really sad 😢
I hope that little guy makes it. You're a great dude, that's for sure.
I really like your videos! Great work. Your enthusiasm for catching whatever is swimming below the spillways is contagious. You capture all of the positive aspects of being a sport fisherman!
Nick this episode has saddened me to the bone! I am from Australia but have always dreamed of one day visiting America to experience the amazing fishing that is offered in your beautiful country. Fishing is my passion and to see those Bowfin heads on the bank with that poor Gar brought a tear to my eye. How somebody could do that to those amazing creatures is beyond me! You are an inspiration in my eyes and I really love what you bring to this channel. Stay well my dude and keep doing you! Much love and respect from Australia!!!
Note to self: always kick a fish before you assume it’s dead.
You should make a sign and post it saying stop killing bowfin, they are not an invasive species. Idk why people have to be so terrible and cruel. It is beyond me how someone can fish an just throw good healthy fish on the bank to slowly die for no reason. Good save on the gar talk about lucky. I love your channel 618.
Yeah
Tim Burke: Tim, there's a lot of crap that you and I see as common sense, but others struggle with. And I used to consider myself morally ambiguous.
@@eschdaddy i agree. Im a hunter and fisher and understand nature is red in tooth and claw. But its the unnecessary suffering and disregard that i find most upsetting. I just wish that this wasnt a common trend. It gives outdoor people a bad name and causes prolonged death unnecessarily
This technique is far superior than the "poke with stick" method.
Please report the killing of those Bowfin to your local DNR.
Why u want to hug one
@@scotthall3644 why dont ppl like them? I only eat salmon and trout but i catch perch small and bigmouth bass but i put them back in the water and keep on my way.
So many idiots kill them thinking they're snake heads.
You should
@@Skinfaxi ya but if they are trapped go somewhere else 😆 i fish near huge catfish but never caught one cuz i stay out of that small area they get locked in. I mean im no saint but if others want to fish them leave em be
Man, I gotta say - it’s been awhile since I’ve watched one of your videos, and your editing has gotten really good! Keep up the awesome work!
Bless you dude for returning that Gar; massive respect to you! I've hit the like button and I've subscribed too. Tight lines man, I look forward to watching more of your fishing adventures!
Why would you want us to smell that crap 😂😂😂😂
Cameron Noble he’s a sadist. Haha
So we get an idea on how bad it is
because he had to.
I don’t think he meant it like that
Did you say carp or crap?
Whoever keeps killing them might think they're snakeheads
Stick a sign in the ground "bowfin arent snakehead"
But I would totally leave a time with f& regarding people fishing there killing fish
Idk. Someone on Instagram had/has an account called “Bowfin Bashers” and post pictures and videos of them killing bowfin. Could be the same person doing it where he is but like I said idk

He literally killed a different fish an hour earlier... Id say his net karma is zero
There’s a special place in hell for the guy who threw those fish on the bank

Nick, what this world needs is more people like you. You are a true humanitarian and a steward of the environment. God bless you sir!
your the reason I started fishing spillways
how do you locate spillways
It's great you went fishing there and found the Gar still alive and returning it to the water. I can't tell you how many times I've been fishing and found a completely trashed location to fish from. Some of us respect the outdoors enough to respectfully keep those spaces clean of debree when we leave. Love your channel and always pleasure watching you catch some really nice fish.
Great job saving that gar! Such a shame how ignorant people can be. All fisherman have a responsibility of conducting themselves in a certain manner. Respect the fish and the environment which sustains them. So many fail and do not deserve a tight line.
Such a heartwarming moment. Kudos to you for saving that Gar it made me have just a bit more faith in humanity.
What is crazy is that he suggested that GAR may have been out of water for 24 hours is that possible if so what a survivor
Gar are incredible fish, I don’t understand why people abuse fish that have been native fish that have been here for millions of years 🤔🤭
Because people suck :-/
I would venture to guess the people who do this kind of stuff are probably the kind of people who would take offense at saying Gar or Bowfin have been around millions of years.
Because some people are just a virus to our environment and everything in it.
@John Something The gar and bowfin have existed with bass and catfish for as long as they've been around. That body of water appears pretty stagnant, so the gar and bowfin probably are more adapted to living there, thus why there are more of them. It's a natural process, people who kill "x" fish to try to make a body of water better for another fish species are ignorant.
@My Imaginary Invisible Friend take your edgy kidz club somewhere else
Love the cinematic and scenery outtakes. Well done, you put in the effort. Also learned tidbit of knowledge,
gar can breathe air...
They absorb oxygen through the gut if I remember correctly. Quite a few primative fish can, as can a lot of catfish.
Awesome short vids. Like your clean and unbiased (non-commercial) approach to the simple pleasure of FISHING!
I’m not gonna be surprised if it’s a massive turtle 🤣
🤡🤡🤡 lol
Or otters......🤷♂️
Was just watching old fall fishing videos about trout....no way!
Man that was freaking crazy! I love how you say "see ya later buddy" every single time you release a fish hHaha
Hey thanks for the fishing shots very good camera work!! Also GREAT background music!! :)
Tuesday feels whole when there is a 618 Fishing notification. Break time! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
That gar still being alive was crazy! I hope it was able to survive.
Don't worry it did, them things are sooooo tough 😂, I know from bow fishing, it's kinda crazy how tough they are.
Wow that was crazy! Thanks to u and others like our fishing streams can b preserved. Keep up the good videos
That was a fishing video like I have never seen before complete with music and art shots. I also like your enthusiasm and positivity: you got lemons and you made lemonade, so to speak. Finally, your knowledge of and respect for the fish is admirable. All things considered, you made a unique and multidimensional video. Good job.
I'll pass on smelling what you're smelling 😂
You’re a good man!!! Way to take care of that fish! A real fisherman!
The one thing I haven't been able to wrap my head around is this. You will take a good eating fish or popular fish for people to eat out and cut it up for bait, yet you get upset about bowfin and gars being on the bank. Also, you never did kick that dogfish to see if it was alive because they too are like gar and pop the top of water for air. Just some thoughts that don't make any sense .
You see the thing about video editing that you obviously haven’t wrapped your mind around is this, you don’t have to include everything you film in the final cut. The dude definitely didn’t just check the gar. He just didn’t include the bowfin because it was dead. Secondly, they are called bait fish for a reason. They are used to catch the game fish. You see there is this thing called the food chain.
@@drewmadenew3000 so you kill a fish, to catch another fish just to release it for UA-cam footage? Sounds like humans being shitty to me
@@MuckleCh I'm an avid outdoorsman. I understand the food chain. My point is, humans the worst species on this planet. And you can't argue that
Props to you man. Thank god for putting good people in this world.
the 15 dislikes are the bowfin murderer and his kissing cousins...
He criticized people for discarding fish but he killed a drum fish for bait. It's kind of hypocritical. Fish die. It happens. If you discard fish you dont like, or you kill fish for bait, it's no different.
@@joshcross2831 it's different. It's being used to feed a hungry bigger fish, not just wasting it.
@@joshcross2831 yeah the difference is he dispatched the fish and used it, and it fed other fish. Whoever was threw that gar and those bowfin onto the bank left them to die slowly and for quite literally no reason.
Flies, insects, raccoons gotta eat too. So it didn't go to waste.
@@snapyoneck6271 it's not being wasted. It is feeding raccoons, birds, turtles, possums. Countless insects. The list goes on.
So nice that you put him back in the water
this video got some production value, way to go!
Nobody talks about how good the quality of this video?
I was literally coming to the comments to say how good the video work is on this video.
Well that’s why I keep watching!! It’s the fishing version of THP (The hunting public)
I’d love for a compilation of bloopers or funny moments (unless he already made one) otherwise. Love your content and how respectable of a fisher you are!!!
It’s sooo sad what some people do to amazing fish rip all the bowfin
Lucky in Australia people don’t do that
Stumbled on this randomly...good production value, good hobby, and a caring sportsman....kudos! The way it should be done. Subbed.
That gar rescue made my day. Nice job I didn't hear you say "see you later buddy"
That was epic when you saved that gar fish! Great job man. Whoever is leaving those fish to die like that clearly has no heart or interest in nature. Really sad. Keep up the great vids !
-Saves Gar- Fishing Gods: "I like that. Here; catch this good sized Bofin for your troubles."
I really appreciated the nice quality video, wonderful editing, drone work, taste of music. Well done!
My wife and i fished the Everglades often and during along drought we could walk where we use to boat. Lots of large puddles and i noticed right away that some puddles had bait fish around the edges and some did not. The puddles with no bait fish often had a large hungry fish waiting for my hook presentation.
Because of you saving that gar I turned on notifications. I love to see that!
That gar is gonna be a MONSTER one day.
God bless "Nick from 618 fishing."
Thoroughly enjoyed your video, we need more people like you in this world.
Nice fish, nice shot, nice music. Really appreciate your effort man!
What kind of lowlife treats wildlife like that? So sad.
they eat and kill everything else its like a carp but eats meat
No, they aren’t, bass eat just as much, you are an idiot if you think that. Carp are invasive. Bowfin and gar are native, prehistoric, beautiful creatures.
@@jeremychinchilla3093 Bowfins are an american fish, not to be confused with snake heads.
@@jeremychinchilla3093 I'd like to see some scientific proof on that one. Seems to me that they've been successfully cohabitating in all the creeks, rivers, ponds and lakes in North America for longer than we've been fishing there.
@@brooktrout8568 Correct. Thank you.
There's nothing I hate more than seeing fish just left to die.
@Sparka idk chief. Seems like someone around there likes to just land fish and leave them. But who knows
The only fish that are left to die are in Australia it’s law here to kill all common carp you catch
i agree but a gar is an exception
Kyle Zeller agree to what
But catching a fish and killing it to catch another fish is fine?
I really like your kindness towards your catches.
Lol until he murders them for cut bait jj
As he cuts up game fish for bait. ;)
You do a great job with the B roll stuff. Great shots, not overly done or long. Kudos.
I don't understand why a gar can survive this long without being in the water. That's insane!
I know Gar's can live in very low oxygen water, can breath air when necessary. Ancient species that fights to live.
This place is blessed with only big fish, CONGRATULATIONS your fishing was amazing!
Hug and good fishing always.👍🎣🐟😉
Oi Suellen sou br gosto muito de seus vídeos ✌️ que bom ver vc não sou o único br a ver esse vídeo gringo 😂 muito bom o canal dele gosto bastante kk
Qqq
Question: are bowfish native to that area?? If not, that could be the reason ppl toss them on the bank to die. When I catch carp, I don't return them because they are invasive and do more harm to the river and lake than good....
My guess is people think they're snake heads..
Not all carp are invasive species and actually there a fun sports fish to go after
Would like to see a short segment about what rigs you use for each application , rod set up , ect. Always entertaining to watch your videos.
I've seen catfish and bullheads last a long time out of the water, interesting to hear there are others. Very tactful the way you dealt with the mistreatment of those fish. Good stuff here!
Anoka Minnesota? I grew up in Coon Rapids👍
I admire your sense of conservation. Your a good fisherman. Those two species have been here longer than mankind. It's truly disappointing to see people purposely doing things like that to fish. We cant be too far apart. I've seen that a couple of your videos were filmed near me and places I fish.
Can you prove it that those fish were alive longer? Lol don't say carbon dating. Cause they have discredited all that nonsense maybe not in the 1980s sub standard high school science books lol
@@ShaneLOVESfish Proof? They are called fossils. Dating back to the Jurassic period. You know. Long before man was here. Go do some research before you decide to get smart.
@@nolanthompson5441 so foossils talk? And tell you how old they are? hahaha come on man I went to public school too.... But I'm not that retarded lol 😋😝 dude the dating of fossils has BEEN disproven in MANY ways. Especially the so called columns of dirt etc. Pick up a book... Read some REAL science. Youre stuck in 1982 lol lol lol. Your theory isn't science it's a theory. REAL science is something proved over and over and over again to yield the same results.
Nice try though bud. If you want real science come at it with an angle like I said. Proving someyhing over and over again THATS truth. I don't have the time to cite ALLLLLLLL the tons of real science. Go luck for it. But the earth isnt millions of years old.
And nolan send me in the direction of the half man half monkey HAHAHAHAHA still waiting for that. Lol I mean come on bro. If evolution formed itself out of nothing and something somehow created force and matter and explosion. Don't you think evolution would let us keep a tail. That would be handy. Seeing a piece of trout used as bait is one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen !
Would u prefer a bluegill drum or some other native species WT !!!!
I was wondering why? You're using trout as bait and talking about the killing of bowfin?
I can hardly stand it. In my neck of the woods it's unheard of. People would think you were crazy.
To me, not really disturbing, just sad I'm not the one getting to eat some rainbow trout.
It's illegal in many states to use any part of a game fish for bait
I'm glad for catch and release videos. 👍👍👍
I have practice catch & release all my life, loved to see others return our fish contestant back to the water in hopes that we get the chance to meet again another day, hats off to you sir for returning the gar back to the water, I never kill anything that I do not plan to eat, including snakes, I figured they have as much a right to life as I have
Thinking positively... Maybe those heads are left over from cleaning the fish, and they were table fare instead of just discarded.
That's what I was thinking. Probably would have seen the rest of the bones attached on some of them. And maybe the remains we're tossed into the water when it wasn't so low.
