OMG David Herschfelder's keyboards are maaaad! John is ripping it, and the back-up singers are rocking. What a legend John is, absolutely love him. Wish him all the best in his battle with cancer xx
I was there! That's from the Chain Reaction Tour in Melbourne. Maybe my favourite concert of his. And the band were awesome too - because his concerts were televised and he always introduced the band, several of the members also became well known. That's David Hirschfelder on piano, Jack Jones and Phil Buckle (guitars), Wayne Nelson (bass, he's also in LRB), amazing backing vocals including Lisa Edwards and Venetta Fields, Angus Burchall (drums). I'm sure I've left a few out but really enjoyed this tour!
Venetta and Lindsay. (His other backup vocalist here, first name Richard - don't remember his surname - passed away in 1994 or thereabouts). Venetta is retired now. Lisa took some time off when she had a baby. Other band members have rotated through as they're all excellent musicians with careers of their own. But I have NEVER seen John perform without Lindsay there.
He was amazing live. This was at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, 1990. He should have had a number 1 hit worldwide with You're The Voice. I still don't know to this day why he never cracked the US market as I still think he has the best voice on the planet.
Great reaction, he was so massive here in oz... Remember, he's singing this at full capacity after already singing god knows how many songs at full capacity on this night. The man just never falters!! ❤️
He's THE Voice. Was - Still IS! Stadium / Arena packer - every time. Spectacular vocalist, charismatic, engaging, enormous range, pitch perfect LIVE, & not a single singing lesson in his life! The complete professional; always acknowledges his fellow musicians & production team. Thoroughly enjoys himself on stage and the enjoyment of his fans. Started out with a spectacularly silly song; 'Sadie The Cleaning Lady - which he tried to leave behind; but no Aussie would let him, They loved it so much! Demanding it at each concert. I fell in love with his; ' One Is The Loneliest Number' which showcased his spectacular range & vocal control & led to ever greater things. A thoroughly decent guy with a strong social conscience and not an ounce of 'star ego'. We all love FARNSY! Always will. { No - Not a Cold Play song. This song was written in 1985 -when most members of Cold Play - who were touring Australia at that time - I suspect were still in nappies! }
He is best live…. He is the ultimate entertainer and when you leave his live shows you leave happy…. Even now in his 70’s he still the ultimate entertainer
I love people discovering what we've known Down Under for years - John Farnham is a legend. And his band was one of the best we've ever produced. David Hirshfelder on the guitar/keyboard was amazing to see live. Saw them a number of times and every show was spectacular. As others have said - John Farnham was even better live than recorded. Seriously talented.
The guy playing the guitar with the red shirt is Jack Jones who had his own band named Southern Sons and he sounds HEAPS like Farnsy too. Have a listen to ‘Always and Ever’ by them. I think you’ll like it.
Yeah, I remember. I was a teen in Sydney when he was in his 20's. King of Pop! He's a living legend! Farnsey and Barnsey were dynamite on stage! Loved Jack Jones and Southern Sons, very cute and great voice and quite similar to John. Great memories 👌 👍👍👍👏👏👏❤❤❤ 🇦🇺
This from the Chain Reaction concert which you can watch on here to watch. it’s a awesome concert.. He just the phenomenal live, only way to see and listen to John. 🇦🇺
My favourite Farnsey song along with The Voice , Angels , Age Of reason . Ah bugger it all Farnsey songs are my favourite . He is a living legend and is still singing in his 70s . He is the epitome of what an Aussie bloke should be . All the grandma's wanted him to marry their granddaughters and all the granddaughters just wanted to root him . The grandsons wanted to be him or at least just havea beer with him . Terrific reaction please do more Aussie acts .
You ABSOLUTELY have to do his Live of Angels. It is not only the sweetest song but it shows his sense of humour really well, not to mention his beautiful voice.
I can not get over how well all these songs (of my youth) have aged perfectly. John (fortunately for everyone in Oz) was a real home body and was happy to have us love him and not seek world wide fame. We're we lucky bastards. Barneys too. We were sooooo lucky
I think I have been to every concert he had in Sydney and my area for many years..he is just AWESOME on stage and a really lovely guy off. Love it..keep them coming👍🏽👍🏽
He actually sounds better live then his recorded sound tracks no wonder he is known as the Voice down under. He’s got so much energy on stage he’s more then just a singer he’s an entertainer
Classic Farnham right there. Brilliant song that John wrote. Fantastic performance and a great review that let the song play in its entirety. Great Job.
I've seen him in concert so many times and he's such an energetic performer. He gives his all. His band was great and each of them great musicians in their own right.
Was that meant to be an Australian accent??? Lolololol sounded more Italian! I’m so damn proud you have discovered John and love him - all Aussies do 🇦🇺🇦🇺🥰❤️🐨🥰❤️🇦🇺❤️🥰🐨🥰❤️
Have you heard Farnsey do "One," "Down on the border," "Age of reason," "Sadie the cleaning lady," was his first hit as a teen. At least two of these were done in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert.
It was at the now named Rod Laver Arena (formerly Flinders Park) in Melbourne Australia. John just gets better with age, I've been to about 6 concerts of his and his shows have so much energy and he sings better live than on record if that is at all possible, he truly is THE VOICE..............
As an Australian I have been really enjoying your reactions to John. You really should check out "Angels" with Lisa Edwards (one of his backing singers). You will see a different side of John when he was about 50 yo. ua-cam.com/video/5_2NJRIdBO8/v-deo.html
By the way. Anthony does another amazing duet, a cover of a Janet Jackson song, with a young lady named Bonnie Anderson who as a 9 or 10yr old, won the very first season of Australia's Got Talent. She is the grand-daughter of boxing legend Lionel Rose and is an actress now aswell and just an absolute little legend! Anthony Callea & Bonnie Anderson: Together Again ua-cam.com/video/DHfu9cF2Vto/v-deo.html
My previous reply seems to have gotten lost somewhere, but b4 I suggested Anthony and Bonnie with Together Again, I tried to introduce you to Anthony. In the early 2000s we were introduced to him on season 2 of Australian Idol and he placed 2nd...JUST narrowly beating him was a young lady still at highschool, about 16yrs old. They were both incredible! About 15yrs later, George Michael sadly passed away and Anthony decided he would do a tribute concert, releasing a live concert album of those tracks he had chosen. A couple of songs were duets with his husband, while another 1 or 2 were duets with his previous Aussie Idol co-star, Casey Donovan. This song in particular, I Knew You Were Waiting For Me, was FIRE! George and Aretha, WHO?! I mean...no disrespect is meant there, but 2 words in and Casey IMMEDIATELY has your attention...then Anthony snatches you from her arms as they toy with you for the duration of the ENTIRE song! They ate AMAZING!!! Can you PLEASE do a reaction to this incredible treasure of a song?! ua-cam.com/video/lbCdoXJ1fig/v-deo.html
He destroyed so many microphone stands! - just swinging them around and throwing them. They had to keep extra backstage to replace them. My parents went to one of his concerts and absolutely RAVED about it for years and still do 20 years later.
Hi Matt John is still alive and he still singing hasn’t done anything because of Covid he is 72 but he doesn’t act like it You are the voice is his song he wrote it With one off his band member’s I have been a fan from his first song Sadie the cleaning lady in 1967 and Raindrops Keep Fallin on my Head I was born in 1962 so I have been a fan from then he won King off pop five years start I have meet him a couple off times he is lovely. He is a real laugh to be around a lot off people love our John John was born in 1949 he was born in Dagenham,Essex England his family come to Australia when he was young he lives in Melbourne Victoria Australia He was in Jesus Christ superstar as well Here is same information about him I have all his albums He has had that band sine Whispering Jack, Whispering Jack was No 1 for 25 weeks start He the main Event with Olivia Newton John In 1987 he Was Australian of the year (Before getting this he had to become Australian citizen) HA!! He laughed about it because he always sore himself as an Aussie In 1996 Officer of the Order of Australia And 19 ARIA Awards Which is like your music awards In 2003 induction into the Hall of Fame Hope that gives you same info about our John
1 out of 10 i the best I can give for your attempt at an Aussie accent....but 11 out of 10 for "Farnsey",,,, Flinders Park is in my home town of Melbourne Australia
Stadium now called Rod Laver arena. John sold out that stadium more than a dozen times on that tour. (Rod Laver world No1 for 9 years. Twice Callander year grand slam)
Hope you read this, have you listened to the acoustic version of this by John. Find it on utube at John Farnham - Playing to Win (The Acoustic Chapel Sessions). It’s the best yet!! Love your reactions
Dear Matt, I hope/know that you realise that this is the same “jazzy” guy who you reacted to singing “reminiscing” a while back! Versatile much? Fuckin’ oath as we say down under!
For something a bit different try John and his long time backup singers Vanetta Fields and Lindsay Field doing Amazing Grace. Unfortunately the fantastic Lisa Edwards is not in this song. She's the Blonde in this video and sometimes Brunette or Redhead in other videos. ua-cam.com/video/6danLkCJoFI/v-deo.html Enjoy.
Hi Matt, a couple of months ago when you reviewed “Help” you wondered if a modulation you heard in his voice at one point was the microphone or his voice. Well I’ve gone back and listened to a few versions and it sounds like it is his voice and not an artifact of the mic.
Ciao Matt. Scrivo in italiano, forse così attiro la tua attenzione . Ti ho chiesto tante volte di reagire a Yebba ' My mind '. Ti piacerà, è un ' artista straordinaria! Grazie.
He's the Greatest....Welcome to our Aussie treasure...It was fantastic going to most of his concerts..love your reaction...🇦🇺😊
OMG David Herschfelder's keyboards are maaaad! John is ripping it, and the back-up singers are rocking. What a legend John is, absolutely love him. Wish him all the best in his battle with cancer xx
Thank god for UA-cam… as it’s given the world the opportunity to hear our national treasure sing like a true star. 🇦🇺
@62Fairlane thank god for youtube indeed😉 can't stop watching all these videos! sending my love for "your" john♥️🇩🇪🇭🇲
John is the GOAT and only has the very best back up singers and musicians. This was in Melbourne.💕

This is probably my favourite, live songs by John & his amazing band.
While the world went about its business, Australia was busy enjoying live performances by "The Voice"...our "Farnsey" ❤
One of the best male singers of all time. His voice is from another planet.
He was amazing live. This was at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, 1990. He should have had a number 1 hit worldwide with You're The Voice. I still don't know to this day why he never cracked the US market as I still think he has the best voice on the planet.

Love love it!! No other! And can we just appreciate that nobody throws a mic stand quite like John. It's a skill all of it's own!
He’s our national treasure here in Australia- thanks 🇦🇺❤️
The stage is just his playground...and for the band aswell, isn't it?! Just legendary stuff!
Another good reaction and another great performance by John farnham.
Love Love LOVE John Farnham! My first crush!
The guy playing the guitar with the red shirt is Jack Jones who had his own band named Southern Sons and he sounds HEAPS like Farnsy too. Have a listen to ‘Always and Ever’ by them. I think you’ll like it.

Melbourne, which is the capital of the state of Victoria. It’s John’s home town and his concerts there are HUGE .. packed stadiums night after night.
That is an awesome concert! Thank you for all the Farnham reactions so far. Look forward to more.

he is THE voice one of the best vocalists of all time
He actually sounds better live then his recorded sound tracks no wonder he is known as the Voice down under. He’s got so much energy on stage he’s more then just a singer he’s an entertainer
Agree, much better live.
George I think you've overtaken Rick in the farnsy reactions.. sitting in pole position. Lol
Best cover of amazing grace ever
Amen George. Go manly
Playing to Win is probably not the first JF song that comes to mind when people mention his name but it's one of the best IMO. Such great energy.
Classic Farnham right there. Brilliant song that John wrote. Fantastic performance and a great review that let the song play in its entirety. Great Job.
I've seen him in concert so many times and he's such an energetic performer. He gives his all. His band was great and each of them great musicians in their own right.
I love John more every time I watch a new (to me) video.
Doesn't it seem like John and the 80's were made for each other? 🤣
He's had top singles in Australia in ALL of the last 5 DECADES.
Keep John coming Matt!
100% agree!
Its in Melbourne. Rod Laver Arena, the Tennis Centre. I love Farnsy, an Aussie legend.
Was that meant to be an Australian accent??? Lolololol sounded more Italian! I’m so damn proud you have discovered John and love him - all Aussies do 🇦🇺🇦🇺🥰❤️🐨🥰❤️🇦🇺❤️🥰🐨🥰❤️
Absolutely amazing
Unbeatable ❤❤❤❤❤
Have you heard Farnsey do "One," "Down on the border," "Age of reason," "Sadie the cleaning lady," was his first hit as a teen. At least two of these were done in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert.
It's in Melbourne. Last night on the news Farnsey was seen in public for the first time since his operation at his sons wedding- and he looked good!
Farnsey never disappoints 😊

Johnny Farnham is originally from the UK.
Hi Matt, a couple of months ago when you reviewed “Help” you wondered if a modulation you heard in his voice at one point was the microphone or his voice. Well I’ve gone back and listened to a few versions and it sounds like it is his voice and not an artifact of the mic.

There really isn't enough Keytar in this world...
