The song has an interesting history starting in the UK where it was written by, I think, 3 or 4 musos. One of them was a member of Manfred Mann's Earth Band. It didn't make it onto his album and John picked it up. The rest is history. You're the Voice is known as the other Australian National Anthem. I don't know an Aussie who can't sing the whole song. It's entrenched in our culture. And Farnsey is a much loved Australian son. The crowd in this clip were young, there to see Coldplay, but it only took 5 notes and they knew what song was about to be played. Their reaction to John showed just how popular Farnsey is with every generation of Aussies.

If you havent been my words will never describe the vibe and the energy in that stadium...
Along with his amazing vocals, he has an ability to connect with the audience. That is a crowd of youngsters, yet they react to him as though he is a contemporary.
What I love about this is that the audience is all young people who would never listen to John Farnham, but they all know it and are really digging it and jamming to it. The song is older than they are! That’s respect!!!!
It's great to see, through American reactions, that John Farnham is being appreciated in a market he never really captured. It reminds me of how great he was and is... And we need to remember that as, over the years, many of us in Australia took him for granted and forgot to value him.

Wow Farnham killing it in his 70's. I don't care how many chords people play, if you can reach people emotionally through music, that's what matters to me. There really aren't many entertainers who can connect with their audience like John does, or just appear on a stage at an arena concert and somehow manage to make Coldplay seem like your backing band. ( love Coldplay) It's a shame they dropped the ball on the sound a bit, but who cares, it's still Farnham and l am still here for it.
I was there that day, from what I remember Coldplay was pretty new back then, I think they were given a 15-minute set but only had 2 songs., and no-one knew Farnsey would be there. What's really interesting is that the majority of people in that crowd were not even born when this song was released. Just those first few notes of the song as we knew what was about to happen. the crowd went electric. This wasn't the end of the day, I can't remember what happened after, but it def went for a few more hours i think. It was a festival type thing, different groups all getting 15 mins each kind of thing.
LOL. By 2009 when Sound Relief happened, Coldplay had released 4 very successful albums, over 9 years, toured the world (including Australia) multiple times, sold well over 50 million albums and were arguably the biggest band in the world.
He's in his 70's here. And all those kids were bought up by us listening to him & they love him too. He was always ALWAYS a person to acknowledge the talents of others. Very very generous entertainer and musician. He always blew up peoples tyres.

Matt this is when the Worlds music come to Aussie because our country that year nearly burned down so this was to raise money for our farmers who lost everything a lot of people lost everything. So they put this concert on.. there was 7000 rows as Chris said. If u listen to him while he intro John ( u were talking lol) and Chris said how they had to think of a song that would reach back to the last 7000 row and Ir goes something like this and they start the music. Horses is not an aussie song, was written by Walter Becker and originally sung by Ricki Lee Jones. Daryl released a cover version of it in the 90's which went to no 1 in Australia.

She came home from one concert with bruises all over her including her chest and stomach. She isn’t tall and she was at the barricade in front of the stage. The crowd moved forward and squashed her, I was a bit upset and she knows that is dangerous. She told me it was cool Mama. Two security guards grabbed my arms and lifted me over. I got to watch from the stage and then I got to hang out with the guys. That is a pretty normal crowd for this kind of concert here. My husband and I went to John’s first farewell tour. He is 72 now and the voice is still going strong.

He sang with Cold Play from England . was a multi-venue rock music concert held on 14 March 2009, which was announced by the Premier of Victoria, John Brumby on 24 February 2009. The event was organised by Michael Gudinski, Michael Chugg, Amanda Pelman, Joe Segreto & Tom Lang of IMC/Homebake Festival and Mark Pope to raise funds for those affected by the February 2009 Victorian bushfires.
I was there 😃 my brother got us tickets 😊 it was a concert to raise money for bushfires and the people affected. They had two concerts at the same time in Melbourne and Sydney, I was at the Melbourne one, when Farnsey came out to sing this with Coldplay, it was the biggest moment of the day and the crowd went off! Despite so many big bands and singers that were killing it in the music world at the time that were performing, this was the biggest moment. And to answer your question, this is Farnsey’s song, he brought this song out before Coldplay reached puberty 😂 it was an awesome day there. There is another singer called Jimmy Barns that we call Barnsy, so it sounds really strange to hear you call John Farnham, Farnsy. They even sang together at times and were the best of mates.

Gosh, I remember Guy Sebastian winning Aus Idol all those years ago and when I met him at Hillsong Church in Sydney not long after 😁 Also my mother was a BIG John Farnham fan in the 90's. She has so much personal memorabilia and notes. He knew her by name as she went to every Sydney concert and TV appearances he did. If you can find it there's a 10 min video of him on The Ray Martin Show (Aus daytime TV), where he sings an acoustic version of Burn For You and my mum appears in it a few times sitting in the audience holding one of his vinyl albums dressed in red and her big pouffy perm! I've even met him as a young kid, I have the pic on my Facebook page 😁 I think my mum has also snuck in a few drunk pashy kisses with him too! 😂 His wife Jillian knows what his fans are like but she trusts him.

Sound Relief was a benefit concert for the Black Saturday bushfires that ravaged Victoria. I was at the Melbourne concert that ran at the same time as this one in Sydney. The MCG (Melbourne) stopped their concert and sat linked to Sydney just for this song. There is nothing like the whole of the MCG audience singing along with everyone in Sydney. This was a benefit concert for the big Australian Bushfires in 2009 and brought John Farnham back out of retirement to much delight of his fans since the 1960"s. He sang with Cold Play from England . was a multi-venue rock music concert held on 14 March 2009, which was announced by the Premier of Victoria, John Brumby on 24 February 2009. The event was organised by Michael Gudinski, Michael Chugg, Amanda Pelman, Joe Segreto & Tom Lang of IMC/Homebake Festival and Mark Pope to raise funds for those affected by the February 2009 Victorian bushfires.

I was there 😃 my brother got us tickets 😊 it was a concert to raise money for bushfires and the people affected. They had two concerts at the same time in Melbourne and Sydney, I was at the Melbourne one, when Farnsey came out to sing this with Coldplay, it was the biggest moment of the day and the crowd went off! Despite so many big bands and singers that were killing it in the music world at the time that were performing, this was the biggest moment. And to answer your question, this is Farnsey’s song, he brought this song out before Coldplay reached puberty 😂 it was an awesome day there. There is another singer called Jimmy Barns that we call Barnsy, so it sounds really strange to hear you call John Farnham, Farnsy. They even sang together at times and were the best of mates.

Also my mother was a BIG John Farnham fan in the 90's. She has so much personal memorabilia and notes. He knew her by name as she went to every Sydney concert and TV appearances he did. If you can find it there's a 10 min video of him on The Ray Martin Show (Aus daytime TV), where he sings an acoustic version of Burn For You and my mum appears in it a few times sitting in the audience holding one of his vinyl albums dressed in red and her big pouffy perm! I've even met him as a young kid, I have the pic on my Facebook page 😁 I think my mum has also snuck in a few drunk pashy kisses with him too! 😂 His wife Jillian knows what his fans are like but she trusts him.
