Fixing Mexican Grand Prix circuit

- One of the things that make Formula 1 so special are the circuits. But some of them can't deliver consistently good races, like the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, home of the Mexican Formula 1 Grand Prix. In this video, I put on the drawing board some ideas I've had to change the track layout to improve racing. I had fun redesigning this track and I hope you enjoy it too. If you did, leave a comment and subscribe for more Fun With Tracks!

Petition to replace tilke with this guy👇
I would love to work with him!
@@funwithsometracks also what do you use for this?
SketchUp
Another brilliant work of art…
My expectation was for you to modify the track to somehow bring the old Peraltada back, but u’ve blown my mind, this is MUCH BETTER
Thank you for your kind words, again :)
Hermanos Rodriguez Circuit looks like its living up to the name, V1 is for the more skillful brother and V2 would be for the one that just raged pure speed LOVE IT
Try to change the RedBull ring bringing the old Osterreichring spirit...
As a Mexican I gotta say this redesign is awesome! Especially Turn 1, but the stadium section can't be changed like that, because that building that gets demolished is currently used as the building for the marshalls in the GP while the large Tents are also buildings (the VIP sections and actually one of the most expensive tickets) , but they are also used in concerts (That are quite frequent in the Foro Sol), I really feel like the Formula E design that enters from the current turn, goes around the stadium with 4 turns and goes outside from the same "entrance" and going to the Peraltada, allowing to have the whole turn as the speeds would be much less, the barrier could have TechPro in the side from where they come at high speeds and esentially be similar to the one that separates the main straight from the second section in Baku, so no need for Techpros in the other side as the speeds are already low
Thank you for your inputs :)
You should definitely try to do some American tracks Like walkins Glen or Road Atlanta and try to make them grade-1 circuits
yeah, it would be fun :)
@@funwithsometracks PLEEEEEEEASE do Laguna Seca. I'd love to see how you make it grade 1, but without changing much from the current track
I would rather make a new Indy Road Course, with some more bits from the oval.
The only section I wouldn’t change is the stadium section… everything else I’d definitely make faster & more flowing.
But faster and more flowing in F1 means less overtaking. Zandvoort ?
Modern racecars needs heavy brakingzones.
@@Hellisoy Not exactly, the biggest slipstreams come when one car is following another through a high speed bend.
What I would change to the stadium section is made the track really wide, try get some proper action in there
Reprofiling of Turn 1, the increase of flow across the Ese del Lago section and the new Esses I dig it a lot. Actually 10/10 Changes.
I would do a bit different the Stadium though. Make them go full speed close to the right side of the Stadium, hard braking zone an early apex corner left hand corner that opens up as you go through it and goes back to the left and then it switches to a Malaysia T13 style of it gets tighter as you go through it. To then go through the Full Peraltada in acceleration rather than Top Speed and you have a big battle into T1 with DRS. The detection point for it would be right after the exit of the Stadium when accelerating for Peraltada.
Thanks for sharing :)
I would not have changed the first sector, because there have been many dramatic first laps going into turn 1. I would change those quirky corners at the start of sector 2 with just the straight into a hairpin, leading to the next tiny straight before the fast sweepers. The stadium section you absolutely nailed it. Maybe make the two corners that make up the chicane slightly further apart, so the drivers would take more risk with a dive bomb or going round the outside. Take Road Atlanta last chicane as a good example and take Gilles Villeneuve's chicanes as a bad example (almost no overtaking). Also remember that at the 2000m altitude, there is less air resistance and therefore the DRS is less effective. With that I think S1 should not be changed. For the rest, absolutely amazing!
Good points :)
3:34 Imagine a eye painting in between these two turn 1 configurations!
:D
Sector 1 : Accepted 👍
I hope this design comes to real life someday, great work!
I actually like your redesign, and that's coming from someone who likes the current layout. Respectfully I disagree with your new T1 complex, and I think leaving the existing T1-3 and front straight is fine. I do like your proposal for the straight into the stadium. I think the turn would need to be moved back 100m or so to account for runoff and the risk of debris flying into the stands in case of a big accident. If the first corner of the chicane was right around the 'mouth' of the stadium it would still allow spectators to see and overtake and an battle on the exit into the stadium. This might also allow the exit past the stands to be straightened out. Either way your proposal is many times better than the cumbersome section that we have now.
Thank you for sharing these ideas. Good points!
I'm mexican and I can confirm this mods are just fire 🔥
Shame that in 2015 they sacrificed the Peraltada turn to make more people buy tickets for the Foro Sol
The Peraltada could be driven safely. Just replace the stadium chicane with a hairpin with a radius of roughly 110°, out the real world Stadium entry, and onto Peraltada, which would have been fitted with SAFER barriers. They've used these in Saudi Arabia, so why not use them on an achtual oval turn? The mexican Nascar series surely would be thankful for that too!
To the creator. In my version I created, I removed the sharp turn 2 and replaced it with a medium speed turn with slight curve. Something similar to the corners of Imola. For turns 4-6, I reprofiled it to winding curves like the last curves before the final corner at Paul Ricard. I kept the esses as it is except I would lower the kerbs to improve attacking in that section (similar to the ones at Suzuka). I didn't change the last straight Before the stadium section. For the stadium section, I removed the chicane sequence and replaced it with a long right hander (hook shape) corner before the last corner exiting the stadium. The long right 'hook' corner starts after the last/third straight.
Nice! Thanks for sharing :)
I feel like the track would work better in the other direction
Peraltada as 1st turn would be amazing! But unfortunately, there is no space to create a safe run-off area
idk this man finds solutions I didn't even think of. Fantastic job keep this up I am interested in what tracks you can make better as well😀
also a good idea is to make a fictional track with your ideas
It would be fun!
The new section of medium speed corners on the S/F straight aren't great for F1 but could be a great addition for lower spec series like Formula E.
I just found your challenge and I love! Hope you post more soon😊
Thanks :D
Absolutely Good! I Only Disagree About The New Turn 1 That You Created. By The Way, It's Good To See You Still Called The "Mexico City Grand Prix" As The "Mexican Grand Prix". 😊
Also, I Choose The "Worm" Layout But With Long Start-Finish Straight.

Masterpiece!!
I'd like to see your perspectives about a different approach to Monza's first chicane and ways to make Macao GP feasible for F1 racing without altering the circuit too much
New Layout is perfect ✨😍
Love these ideas
Probably the only thing I would change from this is the Foro Sol
I'd say using half of tge oval straight into a sharp 90° to the right, the rest of the straight is the runoff
From that turn you get a small straight towards the right side of the forum
From there
You can do the small chicane to the middle road
Or
A hairpin alongside the forum, joining back to the last turn of the oval with another sort of hairpin, it would make it a good acceleration corner towards the main straight
I like your changes to the first corner. Other than that, return the Peraltada to its former glory and job done. The speed all the way to the hairpin would be insane
The previous layout at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, up until the 2015 remodel, was better than what F1 races on now. Especially the current stadium section. Such a waste. If anything, the circuit should bring back the original extremely tight hairpin corner from the original layout in 1959.
Then again, if the alternative is watching F1 on another horrible street circuit, I'll take the current Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit.
I’m onboard with everything except the medium speed corners on the frontstretch. Personally I love the run down into T1 at this track. But besides that, you should get a job as a F1 track designer😄
:D
Just for the Stadium section, I think that it's possible to make some grandstands just before the chicane, where you deleted the current ones, to make a tunnel-like. Great vidéo btw
amazing work
sub earned
Thanks :D
thats actually realy good
Please, make one of these with Interlagos. Very good potencial in this track.
9:26 Damn, I had almost the same idea as you to make this straight line that leads to the stadium part, except that I put the Bus Stop chicane at the end of the straight line.
Nice, like old Spa :)
That new stadium section is way to dangerous
Let’s get these modeled into asseto corsa fr fr
I would love it!
great redesign...
if you dont do the main stragiht change ( at least for formula 1 perfect formula e), and put a curved road towards the stadium ( need to make it so a car doesnt fly into the stadium, so a slight curved road into a medium right, and then a re profiled left right to leave) it would be perfect
Hey man i checked all your redesigns and they are mega! BTW what software are you suing for this?
Oh thanks :D
SketchUp
love your content! Bro. what type of programme do you use
Thanks :D
SketchUp
Love it :) I do some redesign in my channel too and maybe you could do the Brazil track ( maybe you can use some of my ideas) ❤️❤️
Good stuff! You have nice ideas :)
I think that the Sao Paulo circuit is awesome and I can't see myself improving the layout!
Interlagos?!? Why would you change Interlagos that's one of the best circuits on the calendar.
@@racingturtle7977 It would be interesting to see a redesigned version of Interlagos, but i agree that it's one of the best circuits on the current calendar.
They absolutely butchered this track. I looked at it and was struggling to see how it could be saved!! Although I would be tempted to double back at the stadium and do the peraltada from a slower start but accelerate through the whole thing.
I saw an onboard lap video of the 2006 Champ Car around this circuit and the layout used matches what you say. There was a chicane before the Peraltada turn to slow cars down and Peraltada was done under acceleration
Sounds like what Formula E does, too.
I would have liked you to have based yourself on the first layout from the 60's, although turn 1 of that circuit is currently impossible, I would opt for curves type curves 1,2 and 3 of Bahrain, and I would suggest adding the old curve 6 design original, and the straight that enters the "Foro Sol" would ruin the podium that it currently has and that in my opinion has the best production for the award ceremony and although many of us miss the banked curve, the FIA would be afraid to return it, although with a different design like the Formula-E circuit would be possible.
Thanks for sharing your suggestions! They are very valid. I also thought about them when I was redesigning. Regarding the podium at Foro Sol, the idea was to move it a little to the outside because of the new straight. (represented with white polygons in the video)
Fix las Vegas including pitlane exit
Brilliant Job ! What software do you use ? Converting these tracks into Asseto Corsa would be fantastic
He said he uses SketchUp in an older comment
Next Mandalikan
What is the software that you are using for your videos??
SketchUp
No no no, it got worse, we have to go back with Peraltada
Hi!! What program did you used?
Hi! Sketchup
what too do you use for corners in sketchup
i mean what tool
2 point arc :)
Estimated lap time: between 1'03 and 1'07"
How do you do this, with program do u use
Sketchup
@@funwithsometracks thanks
T1 is one of the besy overtaking spots rn... why tf chance it
what program are you using for this?
Sketchup :)
what do you use to do this?
SketchUp
Screw the event organisers, and send the cars around the oval last corner - an even faster lap, with an even faster run into any one of the turn 1's you added.
How many meters does the circuit go out?
In what location?
@@funwithsometracks I mean, how many meters could come out if there was such a configuration?
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean
@@funwithsometracks может тебе будет понятно на русском?)
Сколько будет метров выйдет, если была такая конфигурация в реальности. :)))
Brand new last corner is much good, but double apex corner need to remain😢
Id probably choose to run the formula e stadium section and run the full peratalda
I preferred the original layout from the 1960s that, back in the day, you could drive on grand prix legends. Edit: I stopped watching when you started messing with the main straight.
Thanks for sharing your opinion :)
I'm mexican, and yes I think Mexico's circuit it's little boring
Worst Than original... Just use 1992 layout
