It’s been a hot minute since I’ve engaged in conversation!!😅 I wanted to let you know, last podcast I didn’t even wait 2 minutes to get the emotional chicken pattern. I made it for my son’s girlfriend who works in an inner city/ immigrant/refugee elementary school. I frequent this class to help out with different aspects (financially and with resources). I delivered it today so I could see how the kids reacted to their class mascot…needless to say it was heart warming! They quickly took turns giving it a hug and were very eager to name it. Thank you 2 for making a difference which trickles down the line. Just wanted to let you know how your channel is impacting my world.❤
Aww that is awesome, we love hearing stories like this, thank you for sharing. Hope you are doing well Helen.
So last episode I immediately "needed" the emotional support chicken. This time I need to have some Thea Colman hat patterns. It never ends. But! This is because everything you're knitting is so fabulous, Skylar is so sweet! Thanks guys.
We are loving the cable knit hats from Thea, we would highly recommend.
Ray I think you could be a singer!!! You have a voice! Love you guys!
Aww thank you Michelle.
Another nurse here!( 37 years in peds) I so enjoy your podcasts, it is entertaining, relaxing and I always learn something, thank you .
Aww thanks so much!! Nurse power ❤️❤️❤️
Ursula K Le Guin is OG science fiction! I had to read Left Hand of Darkness in college.
YES!! Le Guin is incredible. Ray, it's understandable your need to slow down your reading. This book was written in 1968 and the style is much different than the style of Sci-Fi authors now. Even if you don't like it, it WILL stick with you. Ursula's sneaky like that 😉 I enjoy you and Kevin on the podcast and I burst into song frequently too! Cheers!
I really enjoyed her writing style 😊
LOL it's one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer (George Thorogood). :) and Ray, that cabled hat is amazing! Gorgeous. Love the color, love the design, all of it.
It’s by John Lee Hooker and covered by Thorogood!
@@catofthecastle1681 Thank you! I didn't realize that. :) I'll see if I can find the original.
You got that right! lol I don’t know why we thought whiskey lol 😂
When I was in my teens, we had a budgie named Alvin. Our dog, Dingo, kept jumping up and putting his front paws on the counter near Alvin's cage. We'd tell him "Dingo, get down." One day, we were sitting near Alvin's cage talking, and we paused, thinking we heard something odd. Silence. We continued talking and a few minutes go by, then we hear Alvin say, "Dingo, get down." Who knows how many times that little bird heard us say it, but he certainly learned it and would say it repeatedly! Thanks for a great podcast episode!
OMG that is so cute 😊
Ray, you could keep on going with the pattern, then gather the end when you are happy with the size.
yes I totally agree!!
Good idea, luckily I was able to find the yarn 😁
Ray if you have another ball of smoke or grey which is close, you can knit one row of the other dye lot and then One of the original color. This helps blend the colors and is usually very unnoticeable in the finished product.
Great suggestion thank you 😊
LisaR: A great source for vests , including males & many easily modified to vests- From the book "The Vintage Shetland Project "( Susan Crawford) . Enjoy !
Thanks for sharing!!
Skyler is amazing! Love seeing your creations as always. Best wishes for Vogue Knitting!
Thank you Mike.
Oh my gosh, you’re going to be up in my neck of the woods! Check out Six Loose Ladies yarn shop in Chester, VT. It’s ‘right around the corner’ from Ludlow! Ludlow is skiing paradise with Chester having several lovely little shops
Thank you for the suggestion Claudia!
I thought I was looking at yet another night of not sleeping and having to troll for new videos to watch and up you both pop. I was so happy and really enjoyed this episode. Thank you 👍
Thank you Carol!
The vest is color work from Norway/Norwegian knitting. Ask Arnie and Carlos. I just bought 5 different books with those patterns in then. The had a knit along before Christmas and we made a Christmas stocking
Amazing thank you 😊
Love you guys!!! I hit the thumbs up before I have even finished listening! Some great shop suggestions for your trip to Ludlow: Ewe & You Fiber Arts in Windsor, CT, Green Mountain Spinnery in Putney, VT and Six Loose Ladies & Friends in Chester, VT. Have fun!!!!
Aww thank you so much. Thank you for the yarn shop suggestions.
I received my Jimmy Beans folder in South Africa early in January and I am so glad you showed how you have done your needles as I did not know how I was going to do it. I just find it a little bulky but it will work. I also purchased their material folders which are easier to take around. Great product though!!!
Awesome!! Yay 😀
Hello chaps! Hope you’re both well. I’m
Just watching your episode and thought about your vest Kevin, Kate Davies has a pattern that is similar Machrihanish. I have bought it years ago and yet to knit it. Happy knitting! Vasco 🧶
Thank you for the suggestion Vasco, I'll add that to my favorites 😊
Ray: If I had Smoke Yarn I would give you the yarn needed and a sweater's worth too 🥰
Aww thank you! Someone is sending it so I’m so happy!!
Looking forward to seeing you at Sweater Camp this weekend. :-) tom
We had so much fun!! And total FOMO!!
Ray, you hat is beautiful, I would rip do back any of the design or ribbing. Since you like where the hat is sitting right now, I would do a rapid decrease and finish the top. Not many people are tall enough to see the top of your head. Just my thoughts. Glad you guys are feeling better, you both looked much more like your fun selves. *)
Thanks so much! Definitely doing a lot better 🥰
Wow I did a lot of chatting with you in this episode 😂 I had headphones on so my son asked me who I was talking to when I would suddenly start responding to you both. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Hope you have a great time at Vogue Knitting Live and can't wait to hear about it all and see the acquisitions. Maybe I will even pick up my Geogradient WIP before then....or not.
Thank you Jessica!
That vest!!! Could it be the ‘Flagship Vest’ by Espace Tricot?! They mention it’s based off a Ralph Lauren menswear💕 I see it and immediately thought it was it!🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
That's got the lovely x motif in it, a very close pattern.
@@blackbirdsycamoreyarn6110 that’s what I thought! It popped up and I know it’s not exact, but it’s darn close!
That is very close, I've added it to a vest bundle.
Hi Kevin and Ray! Kevin, I've come across a similar vintage style vest, like the one you showed - have a look at: "Wartime Farm Sleeveless Pullover - Men's" - by Susan Crawford (copy and paste that on Ravelry and you'll see it)- she really specializes in remakes of vintage patterns and this one is not exact, by wonderfully close... anyway I just wanted to mention when I came across it. I enjoyed spending time with you as I knit, and I'll look forward to the next time! Cheers, Judith 💜
Thank you for the suggestion Judith 😊
Love your podcast per usual!
Thank you 😊
This is my second visit here and you guys are the best!!!!! I’m so glad I found you!!!! What talents you are!!! ❤
Thank you so much 😊
I love your budgie! So cute! I also love that lovely blue/grey yarn you dyed. It is the same color of a Russian blue cat I had many years ago. Thanks for the memories!
Aww that’s so sweet!! 🥹
Ray happy birthday to your dad, My dad's birthday is also the 22nd, but he is celebrating his bd in heaven. Miss him still after 37 years😢.
Aww 🥰 happy birthday to your dad in heaven ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are close to 20k! Have fun at vogue!
🎉
Hi guys, it's amazing how we all evolve over time. I just watched you both on your Episode 3 , from 3 years ago. Big changes! Now Ray is the one who mainly does the talking and very well too. But please give Kevin more time to speak again like 3 years ago. Your knitting and description is always so educatonal and very pleasent and valuable to suscribe to. Very much looking forward to you in the future. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much! We’ve had so much fun over the past few years ❤️❤️
Hi! I’m so glad I found your channel 😃
Welcome!! We are glad you’re here ❤️
Loved your podcasts ,,, you 2 are great 🥰😊
Thank you Debbie!
I just found you guys...SO MUCH fun!!! Thanks for a wonderful podcast! I also bought the kit for the ESC!!! 😂🐔Looking forward to watching all your previous episodes now!
Yay, thank you for checking out our channel. Hope you enjoying making the chicken as much as we did.
I've almost completed my chicken or I should say my first chicken because I've decided to get a jump start on Christmas knitting and I'm making a chicken for everyone in my knit grou[ (only 5). Love seeing all the hats. I do like to have a hat on the go along with a pair of socks. I agree it's necessary to have a variety of projects so that you have something to work on no matter the situation. I've heard really good things about The Cozy Classic Raglan and seeing yours Kevin makes me want to make one. Wishing you both a great fortnight.
Yay, hope you enjoyed making the chicken, we will definitely be making more. The Cozy Classic Reglan is great, I would recommend making one, it is another easy knit.
LOVE THE BEAUTIFUL COLORS TO BOTH SHAWLS
Forgive the geographic inabilities; I’ve not looked it up in relation to your destination, BUT I adore Junction Fiber Mill in Vermont - the two owners (Peggy & Amanda) also have a vlogcast and are a hoot along with excellent yarn! I’ve not been to the brick & mortar site, but I love to crochet with their “Making Tracks”. Just to put on your radar!
Your projects are beautiful as always & it’s always great to see you two. Glad you’re both bouncing back!
I’m definitely checking out the chicken kit, btw and Ray! Keep singin’! Loved it! Cheers from Ohio! ☺️🫶🏻🧶 Lisa (aka: NurseLisaFromOhio)
Aww thanks so much ❤️
You guys are great I really enjoy your show keep up the good work
Thank you! Will do!
I have been checking and today 2/1/2024 says you hit 20K. Congrats!
Yay! Thank you! 😊
Yay! Hi guys! I'm almost done with the Yeti's Cowl from Les Garçons Christmas 2022. You have it on the shelf by Ray's right ear. I highly recommend it! So warm and cozy.
Thank you, just eyed it the other day, we definitely need to get that made.
Aw, Skylar is SO darn cute!!! I love his fledgling language skills...careful what you guys say around him haha (or not!). Ray, I love your hats. All of them! I hope someone has some extra yarn so you can finish the dark grey one without having to rip back! I do believe it's One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer. Kevin, I love your Cozy Classic Raglan. Great job! Always wonderful to see you guys. It's quite windy and frigid here; so, a great evening to knit and watch my favorite podcasters! Big hugs to you both. Thanks, as always, for sharing
🤗🤗
Aww thank you so very much!! Sending warm hugs 🤗 your way!
What a great idea to go through our yarns and to keep track of it all......its just what i have been wanting to do as part of taking stock of the ever growing collection! I thoroughly enjoy your podcast and thank you for for all the inspiration!
Thank you! Adding yarn to the stash section of Ravelry has been really fun, it has been nice to see yarns that I forgot I purchased.
I had to get “One Bourbon “ and try the alternating cable cast on after seeing your beautiful hat! I love it 🥰 You two are truly inspiring and a joy to watch.
Yay! Thank you! 😊
❤ love you guys! ❤ I started watching because I'm a nurse who has crocheted 4ever and am beginning to learn to knit. Ray helped me decide! I've been binge watching your videos for inspiration and the great vibes that emanate from y'all! ❤❤
That is awesome! So glad we could help bring some inspiration your way ❤️❤️
Great episode! I always get inspired by all of your knitting. You guys are so prolific and I really like that you share patterns with us. You both make beautiful things!
Thank you Anne!
I really enjoyed the two hats you made Ray. Y’all are both such awesome knitters.
Thank you so much!😊
Kevin, I share your covet of knits I've seen on TV..I have dozens of pics from All Creatures great and small that I want to chart and I envy the folks who watched Highlander and all the pattern books they have 😂 ❤
I always try to figure out if the items I see on tv are hand knit, or something I can knit 😊
I put all my stash into Ravelry in Jan 2023. It was very enlightening! I've encourage others from our knit group to do the same. It helps when I do pattern searches and it provides ideas in my stash of yarns that would work. Love you guys!
Wonderful! Ray is going to start his soon 😊
Just found you! Loved this video!
Signing up for more. Thanks.
Hi Kathleen! Thank you so much for checking out our channel, we really appreciate you watching and commenting.
Ray !! You have a great voice and I love that song!! It is an old 🎵 classic!
Thank you Mary 😊
I have owned many parakeets and none of them ever talked, just mimicked our whistle. Skylar's words are very clear. You both did a great job teaching him. l bet he's a lot of fun ! ❤😎
We are pretty surprised how much he talks, we weren't expecting that.
Thanks Kevin and Ray, great episode! Always fun to see what you two are up to and making. 🥰🇨🇦Sharon.
Thanks Sharon ❤️❤️
Hi Kevin and Ray. Spend a lot of time in southern VT. Six Loose Ladies in Chester is very cute. And don’t miss the pie shop while you’re there. Also if you don’t mind a little drive Harrisville Designs is just outside of Keene in NH. The Hub in Weston is also a great place for dinner. About 20 minutes from Ludlow! Have fun!
Thank you for the suggestions.
I've been super sick so I'm watching this EP right after finishing the last one 😂❤ love you guys
Aww hope you are feeling better Chrissy.
Such lovely knits! Ray sure hope you find the same yarn- that hat deserves to be complete. Wonderful knit
Thank you Donna, luckily I was able to find the yarn 😁
Hi Kevin and Ray, I always use cable cast on for socks, it works really well. Beautiful hats and love all your projects. Have a great week. ❤❤❤
Thank you! You too!
Love these drinking hats, especially the yellow cabled one and the color combination yellow|purple is gorgeous. Thanks again for sharing your (knitting) world. Have fun in New York, don’t buy too many kits , ray,you already got a ton. I bought the pattern for the emotional support chicken and will start on it soon.
lol 😂 I’m going to try to be good haha 😂
Spencer's vest looks a bit like the vintage Ralph Lauren fair isle vests, he had a desiger Nancy Vale that had a book with all her Ralph Lauren jumpers, I would say that book would be hard to come across but you never know someone on here might have a copy to check in it and see if there's anything similar, he might have had other designers too but would be worth researching if you really want to knit one ❤
All I keep thinking about is a pony tail hat with your Oisin Hat. :) Kevin, I just ripped out an entire sweater with merino and mohair in 6 colors. I’m glad I did it
Definitely worth checking out Green Mountain Spinnery in Putney, VT on your way to Ludlow.
We’d love to be able to make that work 😊
Nice to see you guys! Kevin, that sweater is gorgeous.
I spent your podcast working on my second chicken. The first one went in the mail yesterday and is supposed to be delivered on Monday. The friend I sent it to has no idea that it's coming, so it will be interesting to see what the reaction is.
That is awesome! I’m sure your friend is going to love it ❤️❤️
I would not recommend a cable cast on for socks unless you use a bigger needle as although its stretcher than a long tail, its not as stretchy as a German twisted. Xx
I just subscribed to Botanical Yarns UK. Great podcast. They were very appreciative and thankful for everyone that ordered from them online regarding Woolfolk issues.
We didn't know they had a podcast, we will have to give them a watch.
Kevin, If you want an awesome non superwash dk. Same from Clockwork Fiber Co formerly Beachy Breeze Fibers. It’s amazing!
I'll check it out!
I really enjoyed Ursula K. LeQuien books years ago. Hope you enjoy them, Ray
It was great! I’ll definitely be reading more of them 😊
Hi Kevin, Ray and Skylar too🐦!
Thanks for another inspiring episode! I am new to knitting a sweater...have been searching for a pattern. The Cozy Classic Raglan sweater is just what I have been looking for....Thank you !! Nice hat patterns too Ray! Take care and keep warm! Happy Knitting!🧶🥰
Hi Maureen! The pattern is great and it feels like a quick knit. Hope you enjoy making it.
I have entered ALL my yarn into my ravelry stash. Took a bit of time but I have no regrets. Easier to plan a project, when I buy yarn for something in mind, I can add the note so I don’t forget, and I can seee what I have already when out shopping.
I love this! It’s so nice to know what’s going on behind us on the shelves lol 😂
Ray, I started reading Ursula Le Guin when I was in my teens and loved the Earthsea series. I was 10 years old when the first one came out in 1968!
Awesome!! She’s a great writer 😊
That shawl is beautiful, Kevin. And, I am loving the new geometric one.
I would not be surprised if Ray had more kits than what was shown. Lol.
lol 😂
Alternate cable cast on is my go to for socks and hats - I love the look and also not having to measure the tail.
Same! Makes things so easy ❤️❤️
Great job guys! Ray frog the cable hat and start over as it is too beautiful to not have! Kevin good job on cataloging your yarn! I too need to do that! I too would frog the red vest and begin again. Don’t do things that don’t bring you JOY!
That's the plan!
totally meant to be 😍
DOO BEEEE DOOOBEEEEE!!
Have a peek at the Painted Desert Vest on ravelry, or an oldie, the Fair Isle Pullover 1979, also on ravelry.
Awesome thank you 😊
Ray... I am also a sucker for a kit. I've purchased so many and almost none have been knit... it's one of the things I want to work on this year 😉😁
Ray loves a good kit, we are going to keep track of how many he gets this year. 🤣
Perfect rainy day!!! Listening to you & working on my "Ghost Knitter's Shawl".
Only about 15 rows to go....15 looooong rows, almost 600 stitches.
I definitely need to make an emotional support chicken!!!🐓🐔🤣😂
I normally don't get kits, but I may have to now.
Oh Kevin!! That was hysterical about the sour cream, I'm first generation American of Russian decent...sour cream is a staple in the household!! 😂🤣 I honestly didn't know there were people who have never tried it. 😋
I agree, WAY too many ends on the geogradient....mine is STILL in time out.
That shawl is going to be beautiful. I've never tried it by itself, its funny because I cook with it, just never ate it when it wasn't combined with something else.
Kevin your skin is glowing.
Aww thank you 😊
I've read Nettle and Bone. I really enjoyed the creativity of the author.
Ray, if you want a real simple hat look up Needle Beedle Seaman hat. I’ve made a lot of them in acrylic yarn and donated them to charities. I’ve made different sizes and used different size needles depending on what kind of mood I’m in. Great to just get a quick feeling of satisfaction and to help someone in need. I’ve done them with the fold up brim and also just with maybe six rows of ribbing if I don’t feel like knitting the turned up brim.
I loved the Earthsea books when I was a teen. There aren't many and they aren't too long. I should probably reread them now that I can appreciate what a master LeGuin is. I hope you enjoy.
I was swatching for a sweater when I started watching this podcast. Now I am swatching for a different one. I only own two kits, both sweaters I have splurged on. Both challenging. Opted for lace and bobbles as the simpler of the two (the other is fingering weight and nearly all over colorwork). Fine, you tempters, I will join your Kit Along 😉🤍
Haha 😂 yay!! But wow! Good for you ❤️❤️
Kevin, that vest you asking about. I think Corrine from the Woolly Thistle did knit something similar to that. Maybe if you contact her, she can let you know what the pattern is.
Ray, on the Forge you were looking for, sometimes you can Google the yarn with dye lot and options come up. I did that with some red cotton I needed. I found the exact one I was looking for.
Thanks, guys, for another great podcast!
Unfortunately google didn’t work but that’s the first thing I tried. lol great minds think alike 🥰 But…someone is sending the exact dye kit I need!! 👏😉
@NeedlesattheReadyPodcast perfect! Oh man, I hope I didn't sound like a Karen. I reread my post and thought wow that was bossy. So glad you found what you needed.
I love the pennies from heaven song, haha! Ray, good luck with school! Skylar is so cute sitting on Kevin! - Kimberly
Thank you Kimberly!
I love Vicious not for the main characters (though I do think Victor may be redeemable) but for the secondary characters. If for no other reason, I would read the next book. I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed This Savage Song and Our Dark Duet by VE Schwab
Thank you Mary, I will give it a read.
My Briornate shawl kit should arrive from Stephen & Penelope soon, but not I may not be able to finish in time. We’ll see. Happy to participate in your K(kit)AL Thanks!
Yay 😀 you could at least enter your progress in the WIP thread! We’ll pull winners from there too ❤️
OMG! A Kit-Along. Brilliant! Just so happens that I bought 3 kits, all influenced by Ray, that I now will make! Very excited to participate. Love all your new hats Ray! And like Kevin I recently cast on the Cozy classic Raglan and it just flies off the needles. I have a second one planned using fingering and fuwa fuwa which I plan on casting on next week. Thanks for another great episode!
Wonderful! That fuwa fuwa is going to be AMAZING 🤩
Hi Ray and Kevin! Love the parade of hats! I have just started picking up my needles again. My healing process was interrupted by infection...which sucks...but hopefully I am now on the mend. I can walk without assistance and most of my pain is gone....Ray, Ursula Le Guin published the book in 1968, so I think the language would be different. I've only read one of her books and it wasn't in the Earthsea series....she is considered one of the best scifi/fantasy authors. Have fun at Vogue, I haven't been since before Covid, maybe next year if my mobility is still good. Can't wait to see what you purchase.....
Yay so glad you’re on the mend!! ❤️❤️
The Amazon thing was probably real. We get that message and it says driver getting ready to deliver be sure pets put up and light on.
Love the episode! You were talking about making a stripey hat with all the yarn left overs. How about making a stripey cowl instead and then you'll have an accessory that goes with all your new hats.
Great idea 💡 more opportunity to use up the yarn 🧶
Wow! I did not know our stratfords were so much alike. We have a parlor restaurant to. But not you guys. Love the shawl
Aww 🥰
For the vest, I'd check the following designers, Martin Storey, Marie Wallen, or Alice Starmore. I feel like I've seen something very similar from one of them. Hope that helps.
Thanks for sharing!!
@@NeedlesattheReadyPodcast you're welcome
Everyday Disasters by Diana Pharaoh Francis, amusing fantasy series, short with some giggles. Love your Geogradient Kevin, I am still on clue 3, might get it finished before his next MKAL😅. Vertices shall have to wait until after Exploration Station I think. Too many projects, too many books, too many games , a senior dog to walk, slowly , some casual work and I do have to sleep sometime and actually talk to my husband. Think I might just sit and knit while watching the Australian Open tennis and everything else can wait til next week.
Awesome just added it to my list! Thank you 😊
I do cable cast on for almost everything, just because that's the first one I learned. I use it on socks and it works well.
It is such a great cast on.
Nice printing Kevin. To save some yarn with purling, try wrapping your yarn clockwise instead of the normal purling way. Also helps to tighten the knit stitch completed before the purl stitch when cabling.
Thanks for the tip! 😊
You are welcome. Andrea Maury (sp??) just did a very good tutorial.@@NeedlesattheReadyPodcast
Love you guys ❤️🧶
When I do my musselburghs I do 1” of negative ease.
Thank you for the tip Jessica.
I’m wearing my Vertices Unite Shawl today too. I want to knit another. One bourbon, one scotch and one beer!
So fun to knit, definitely should make another one.
Greetings from rainy Los Angeles!
Hi Linda, Hope you are doing well.
Happy 100th episode Ray
Aww 🥰 thank you so much 😊
Day late to the podcast but i mustve felt something in the air and ordered two kits this week lol
lol 😂
I did the Peace and Joy socks but I ended up frogging and doing them without the pattern because the pattern made them too tight. Once I went back they were perfect and people keep asking me where I got my socks 😂. Such a beautiful colorway!
Such a pretty color!! I think I got lucky, mine fit ok, phew 😮💨
Fellas, be sure to not cook with non stick pans and be careful what cleaning products you use, they could have deadly consequences for adorable little Skylar. ❤
Also, I bought the Squares, Stripes and Lice book after seeing Kevin talk about it. I love it! I also think the Klara pattern could easily be adapted to be a men’s sweater (just remove the waist shaping).
Such a good book, can't wait to dive into it.
❤❤❤
