Wow this is probably the best version of any Ao Oni game ever. Good graphics and a hell of a good story. There was for sure hard work put into this, especially if you have been making this for over 3 years.

I'm really happy this video exists. No shade on NoProps or anything... But this is way better than the original. The Oni having a story is insane and something I've never seen, ever. This cast having a surprising amount of depth is something I never thought would happen for Oni franchise either.

Can it literally just be canon that the only reason Mika gets ahead of Hiroshi in certain situations ((like the Kids Bedroom and the other room in the Annex that she's in)) because she goes in there, locks the door and is like "Yeaaahhh.... Hiroshi will be fine. I'm not unlocking that thing and letting the monster in lol"
That's kinda what I hinted at with the Oni mimic scene in the music room. It was copying Mika from earlier talking to Anna or Takeshi about getting the door open.

This remake was much better than the original. Because there's a perfect ending where no one was killed by the oni, except for the early victims before them. And I love the plot, there's much more details to this game than the original. I hope Cory Kenshin could play this.

I was gonna do all endings but decided against it so players could discover them on their own.
@@ungodly A shame, I'd love to see you go over all the unique good stuff one day with a spoiler warning or something. That way this unappreciated aged game has all of it's fantastic creativity recorded for others to see and appreciate. Especially when many people won't replay the game/won't know every niche requirement.
Well I may do, I am doing a trial run for Iris ending currently, not actual run for video because I just started playing the game so I'm a noob, if I made a video on the trial run it would be 8-10 hours so yeah

I really want to see Markiplier go back and replay some older games like this one (I get this is a remake, but that would in some ways be better, as it could be considered experiencing the game again in a new way). In particular, I’d love to see him play this version to see how he would react to it nowadays.
Ao Oni is an interesting character for a survival horror game, but he is not scary and is more of a nuisance if anything. The variations of Oni are more of a joke if anything, especially the warped one lol.
It's an RPG without the fighting part.
The point is that you wouldn't get trapped in a room, it's pretty easy tbh once you get used to the house

I got to play the game a while ago and I have to say I immensely enjoyed it! The graphics and design were very refined and well done, the expanded plot and lore was extensive and gave the game a whole new layer of depth compared to the original, and while I personally don't dig the style used for the character art I can tell that the artist was very good and worked very hard on them!
I got the Azalea and Perfect Ending in one sitting (D Rank on Easy because I suck at dodging and was pretty adamant on not using any of the hiding places or agrimonies to give myself a challenge aha, though I did end up having to use an agrimony once). This is certainly an excellent remake/reimagining/rewhatever you'd like to call it and I hope to see more works from you!

I remember first seeing the gameplay when I was 12, so much detail and change has happen, it’s so cool :)
A tip, put this on 2x speed and pause for the dialouges. Oh and also, skip the chase scenes they're like 20-30 seconds long.

I like this version a lot better. You did a great job with it. The biggest improvement was more character interactions. In the original, most of the characters died so quickly that they basically were introduced into the game just to get killed off, and Takeshi in the original mostly just shivered and was pathetic. Like, I get Takeshi was scared, but the guy sometimes couldn't even mutter words? Yea, I call bullshit and chalk it up to lazy writing.

This is really amazing! The only thing I would have kept the same were the character stills, and removed the music. The music is really nice; but the complete lack of sound from the first game was part of what made it scary for me in the first place. As for the character faces, I just feel they fit a lot better into this game than in the first one; but every one takes their own creative liberties (unless the original art is copyrighted in which case I can see why). No shade on you, you did an amazing job!

aaaaaah, Ao Oni.... perhaps one of the most both well known and yet obscure japanese horror games of the 2000s. Also one of the game which has make Pewdiepie famous for his particular prestation and reactions (although i never has been a big fan of this guy, i only watched his videos to see his jumpscares, that's all). I think it's really time i try first the original game, then that remake for an interesting experience. The end of the 2010s was really a great time for remake and remasters like Resident evil 2, COD modern Warfare 1 & 2, Starcraft Remastered, Link's Awakening and of course that Ao Oni Remaster...

Also, it's my new headcanon that the Oni Chasers succeeded in sealing all of the Onis, and I don't care how unrealistic it is.

Is there a potential for a sort of sequel? More story to the oni chasers? And on that note, with the many oni variants, would it be that next time the 'core' onimof each area had different chase based abilities.
I get asked that a lot. I have one/a DLC that's mostly planned out and almost has the first area completed, which I was going to announce/show at the start of the year but never had time to work on it. It does exist though :)

I'm trawling your videos sorting by popular because I have run out of horror gameplay to watch, and you always hit that sweet spot of lingering for immersion but never dying like a chump lol. I'm curious, I just found out you were the dev of this remake. (I think? Username on gamejolt is ungodly.) I'm curious, you make mention of DLC on the gamejolt page, one involving Hiroshi being in a sprawling mine complex. I'm guessing that DLC is no longer being worked on? It's been four years after all, but three of those involved a pandemic. XD
The mine was one of the first ideas but it was rewritten so much that it became a sort of remake of Ao Oni S/School Nightmare. Also the performance of such a large area with the AI script was not nice to say the least. Between doing a video every 2-3 days here and personal problems/burnout I just haven't found time to work on it.
I did plan to show a reveal trailer back in October or November, but my artist never came through with the needed graphics due to other commitments. Also if I did show it people would be asking for it again constantly despite the warning in the blog post not to get their hopes up.
The last time I scrapped the DLC and restarted was back in 2020/2021 which I kept until now. Progress wise is that the base game was cleaned up and changed a little to suit the story for the DLC and as for the DLC - story and mechanics are almost set in stone, whole game area plotted out and mechanics still tinkering with in game last I attempted it.

Hi ungodly, I'm stuck at the gun powder part, I was following this video except for I made the choices required for Iris ending, I took 90 gunpowder just like you did and added 5 of it along with 1250g of weight but after Hiroshi says "The gun powder and weights seem to be the same" nothing happens and it just displays the same options of testing scales, adding or removing weights or gun powder and that line "This is it. the perfect amount of gunpowder." doesn't appear. Also the gunpowder doesn't fall down to 1 unlike in your case and it stays till 85, and I can't combine the powder and gun powder. How do I fix this?
im stuck on that powder puzzle i get then to equal weight but it still wont work anyone got suggestions?
