Yeah we couldn’t get a foothold on land from the boat either. The enemies just infinitely spawn even if you’re staying in one area; they’ll just keeping walking in from around you. It was too hard to build with that happening. We ended up finding a series of pillars in the ocean that were close to land, docking the boat at the back of them, climbing them, and building an outpost on them. The pillars count as ground for structural stability’s sake. After we set up a shield generator I made a path down to the shore using stone pieces (I brought a stonecutter) and then wood. Once I got to the shore I raised ground using the hoe from the beach so we had an area we could run across and jump onto the platforms from. Enemies can’t jump across the gap. I noticed sometimes enemies would walk across the seafloor and up the pillars so I raised ground at the back of the pillars until it was steep enough that they couldn’t.

(I run the light armor. Asksvin) - The green upgrade for weapons that gives a chance to root enemies does NOT work on flying enemies such as the Fallen Valkyrie, works wonders on any land enemy tho as i have a Root Ripper that i love. - If you run the dual axes, always have a secondary melee weapon on hand, they break FAST. Sure they deal insane damage but they do have one of the lowest durabilities i have seen. - The Ashwood spike wall are cheap and extremely effective defensive structure if you do not have or want to set up a base in a cleared Fortress. I would also recommend having feathercape on you in case u will need to fall from a height or do some lava hopping for Flametal farm(If u do hit the lava aint no gear or potions that will save you anyway, so why not fall slower and jump higher) - The Ashlands caves will always spawn one Morgen when u have looted and head torwards the exit/entrance again. It's not a random spawn and it always spawns near the exit. - Fallen valkyries are easily defeated with a crossbow. Magic truly is king in the ashlands, got magic staffs only now on my bar, no mele weapons apart from a axe for chopping wood and a pickaxe for mining. I am running around having a really fun time going full magic. Someone i watch on twitch struggle like crazy with mele and the ripper.
I built a ladder over the wall like that after my siegeengine rolled backwards into the lava and burned to ashes when I placed it in front of the door.
Frostner is actually still a God tier weapon. It is my main weapon in the Ashlands as the Charred are weak to Spirit and still get slowed, plus them seem like they are weak to both Frostner's blunt and frost damage
Hi FireSpark81! I was wondering if we could mine Flametal using the Lava Blob explosion and if it would trigger the sinking of it. Have you tried? Love your work BTW, very useful! Big Valheim fan here!
Explained what. White is normal damage. Weak to something means yellow numbers. You can not tell if they are weak to it unless you do a ton of math and even them it's hard to be sure.
This is strange cause I generated a new map for this and I did not have this issue. Granted that was before release patch. But only right before. So I guess it got patched out on release
@@Firespark81 I have seen this too. I tried to dig and reached the dig limi. But i think it depends on the fortress as I was able to dig a small gap on one corner to go inside. Maybe I just got lucky.

Is wood to coal really that big of an advantage? This just seems like a quality of life upgrade or a consolation prize when your structure burns down... Is it because of early game stuff? I already don't use a kiln thanks to surtling spawners. I guess it would save me from having to destroy rebuild kiln/smelter if I only had one surtling core. Is it because you always build a grey dwarf farm and have more wood than you know what to do with? Is it because you can set wood structures on fire to damage bosses - like the speed run campfire strategy? What am I missing/forgetting that would make this broken enough to need a patch?
No it is literally just trash. I honestly haven't seen him do a surtling farm, so I wonder if he doesn't know that is a thing for the most overpowered free source of coal.
I don't think it is a big balance issue but it does make the Kiln an entirely useless structure. If the game was not in "Open Beta" for 17 years or whatever they are doing, and instead it was released all at once, there is no way they would have both the ability to burn wood over a camp fire, and also require a Sertling Core to build a Kiln that does the same thing.
If you try to build a ramp up to the wall, the Charred Warlocks just dump a poison/fire bomb on top of you while the Archers pick you off. Yes, if everyone is on the ground inside and you have all the time in the world to nuke them from a distance, yes, Fortresses can be built into "relatively easily", but you have to clear the walls. But then, everyone on the walls will just jump down and kill you on the ground. So, yeah, -if- you can get on the walls solo, -and- you can clear them without dying, then yes, you can build a ladder to kill off everything inside.
i've taken over a fortress and it seems like it isn't indestructible the charred twitchers and morgen are hitting the walls every so often and there are damage numbers popping up mixed in with the too hard and one of the doorways seems to be missing chunks on the outside theres actaully a small gap i can see through to the outside now after about a day of twitchers throwing rocks at the wall. it looks like they are slowly chipping away at the wall.
You can make the best stamina food from them, roasted crust pie (also requires vineberry cluster that you can collect, grows on walls, and barley flour). Lv6 cauldron, need upgrade "rolling pins and cutting boards", which requires ashwood, fine wood and flametal.
The footage you see in the video is from the release version of the game. So unless it's somehow map specific then nope. But I'll test it later to be sure.

So, my first charred fortress, I storm the place and kill everyone and jump on top of that square tower in the center, the one that you pointed out you can dig underneath it and make a floating base or whatever, I jumped on the grate on top of that tower and fell through to some loot and a door I can't open or destroy and the only way I know to get out is to dig, but if I dig too far down, I won't be able to jump back up. We are all over looking how broken the stamina issue is. Even with the rested bonus it's almost unplayable of when you're doing dungeons or combat. This community needs to stop being so nice because you're ruining a game
The game is built on the stamina mechanic, they’d need to rebalance half of the weapons and all of the enemies in order to get rid of stamina without making the game a cakewalk
What do you mean, I literally do not have issue with my stamina. In the rare case that I run out I use a potion and it is right back to it. However the rested bonus is something you are stuck to. All dungeons you can build campfires in to reset your rested buff. Stop sprinting 24/7, put your weapons away while you run, and space out your attacks while properly moving back and forth to get into attack range then out of enemy attack range. Basically, get better at the game, the stamina system isn't broken, it is just a mechanic you have to properly take control of yourself.

Magic truly is king in the ashlands, got magic staffs only now on my bar, no mele weapons apart from a axe for chopping wood and a pickaxe for mining. I am running around having a really fun time going full magic. Someone i watch on twitch struggle like crazy with mele and the ripper.
Great helpful tips! Thanks!
I built a ladder over the wall like that after my siegeengine rolled backwards into the lava and burned to ashes when I placed it in front of the door.
OMG YOU CAN CONNECT STONE PORTAL TO NORMAL PORTAL WHAAT😮 Huge game changer
I was thinking tho can they connect to each other but thanks to this video now i know🤗
Its kind of a more mid game weapons, but the silver frost hammer, i always thought would be amazing in the Ashlands
Frostner will always be a champ!
Frostner is actually still a God tier weapon. It is my main weapon in the Ashlands as the Charred are weak to Spirit and still get slowed, plus them seem like they are weak to both Frostner's blunt and frost damage
You can still get surtling cores very easily in the swamps with a surtling farm. Or did you mean they’ll be rarer in the Ashlands?
Surtlings were abundant in the Ashlands pre-update. Get a boat there and farm hundreds of cores if need be. But now, not so much.
This^
The center area of the 2 fortresses that I dug next to went below the dig limit.
They patched the pillars, they go deep now and you can’t get under
Negative. I fell into one and had to dig my way out just today. The dev commands weren't working for me for some reason, so good thing I kept digging.
@@y0nd3r If you are using mods and use " craft from containers " mod by amka it will prevent dev commands from working.
My friends and I are playing on the easiest difficulty possible and the sheer spawn rates are enough to cause us endless trouble (and several deaths)
imo the mob density is too high
Hi FireSpark81!
I was wondering if we could mine Flametal using the Lava Blob explosion and if it would trigger the sinking of it.
Have you tried?
Love your work BTW, very useful! Big Valheim fan here!
Almost every enemy is weak to spirit damage in Ashlands, don't forget!
That is nice and all but playing melee is useless and wasting silver on arrows is also kinda a waste of resources and time.
@@Fermentos Use a Mistwalker, at max upgrades you kill most charred with one combo
How do you know this when dots only show up white?
@@Firespark81 You just explained it lol.
Explained what. White is normal damage. Weak to something means yellow numbers. You can not tell if they are weak to it unless you do a ton of math and even them it's hard to be sure.
I appreciate youtubers who actually do research by playing the game, and not using wikis.
yup, never underestimate fighting from the high ground!
good to know thanks firespark
No spirit damage against the charred?
Digging belor fortress centre no longer works
heh yeah, tried that yesterday and i all i got was more wall xD
The charred are onto us! xD
I just made a new map and checked a few and it looks like it varies but you are all correct. Most of the time it does go very deep. Do note that you can still use a battering ramp to remove the lower part and it still floats.
All skeletons enemy in Ashlands are resistant to pieces dmg...and weak to spirit dmg
Lava blob are weak to blunt dmg.
don't melee lava blobs they are suicider units that explode when you get in range dealing enough damage to insta kill a player from full hp in carapace armor and 95% of a stone walls hp.
@@paulstjean6687 thx for the advice.
But why would you think i am trying to melee it?
Staff of ember do a lot of blunt dmg... although they are immune to fire dmg, it remind a very viable option.
One thing about lava blobs may worth Investigating....fm my exp, if a lava blob's explosion destroyed structures/Terrain, it tend to make a lot of noise which attract tones of enemy. But, if it dun, it wouldn't make any noise.
@@blo5980 yea wasn't thinking about the blunt on the staff just thought since everything is resistant to fire my brain defaulted to like mace or demolisher lol.
@@Jalbesbe The time to go gather coal vs doing something else (I have the same dilemma).
Charred are resistant to pierce, weak to spirit.
Yes. I'm finding myself still using my MistWalker sword there to great effect.
Thanks Sparkie!
Gotta take those guys out first with the arbalest from long range.
i've taken over a fortress and it seems like it isn't indestructible the charred twitchers and morgen are hitting the walls every so often and there are damage numbers popping up mixed in with the too hard and one of the doorways seems to be missing chunks on the outside theres actaully a small gap i can see through to the outside now after about a day of twitchers throwing rocks at the wall. it looks like they are slowly chipping away at the wall.
Ashlands is rough but exciting
they have to turn down the spawn and detect ranges of the enemies its so annoying
what's the use for Vouture eggs? can't find a recipe for them yet
Potential hatch like the chickens? Potential flyer?
There is a cooking recipe for them, but you need other ingredients from the ashlands too.
You need to make the new cauldron upgrade that gets it to the next level. You need flametal
You can make the best stamina food from them, roasted crust pie (also requires vineberry cluster that you can collect, grows on walls, and barley flour). Lv6 cauldron, need upgrade "rolling pins and cutting boards", which requires ashwood, fine wood and flametal.
How do I destroy turrets if I haven't built a ladder to the walls yet?
If you have magic, blast them with explosions. If you do not, shoot them with arrows.
Turrets are towers on the corners of buildings.
Destroy the ballistas on those corners.
Fire protection potions should also help. Especially if you are mage. And do not wear the fire proof plate armor.
Charcoaling wood piles got fixed already i heard
We have not has a patch since the release of ashlands. So that is a negative.
Is there a good way to cross lava
Taming askvins
Basalt Bombs
So wood turns into coal, witch is better the kiln or using the ashlands to make coal?
Edit: answered later.
Yea they will patch it I'm sure. It's really busted.
@@Firespark81they have fixed it , didn't they?
One of the previous patch has disabled fire dmg to turn wood into charcoal except "cinder fire".
The footage you see in the video is from the release version of the game. So unless it's somehow map specific then nope. But I'll test it later to be sure.
I just checked it on a new map on the release version and it still does the thing. You do have to turn fire spread on though it is not on by default.
all charred are resistent against pierce and very resistent against fire so they do have resistences
Blob also weak to lightning. Wet enemies weak to both frost and lightning
I just got fked. Brought the new ship to the ashlands but got destroyed by those new serpents and the nails sank to the bottom of sea and I’m stranded
How did you let the Bonemaw destroy that ship, it takes nearly 10-15 minutes for bonemaws to destroy a fully repaired Drakkar because it has so much health. Z
And thats more than enough time for you to dispatch the Bonemaws than repair your ship by placing a workbench on the spires.
@@itsssnek810it happened T.T luckily I was able to load a previous save so I will try again

i once stuck inside the tower because i thought i can escape even if i dont destroy the spikes... ended up using devcommands to fly, making tunnel didnt cross my mind at all.
Hoe + portal mats + as much stone you can carry and 10 wood is your best friend for ashlands.
Sounds like you got there and forgot 2 iron for the cutter 😂
i used magic in the plains, the mistlands, against all the bosses including the queen no problem but id be dammed if i can last more than a few minutes in the ashlands with it
Protection bubble and frost staff. Fully upgraded mage armor. You'll be golden.

use catapult to throw yourself inside fortress but use feather cape,ez
The floating part is untrue now. I mined around the middle of a dungeon and I couldn't get under it.
If you dig down as far as the game lets you next to the wall, you will have just enough space to fit under it.
why you up so late
Insomnia!
If the tower floats, then you would think at some point I would get to place where there is no tower wall and I can dig laterally.
It is supposed to be the tough end game so nerfing both would make it too easy. I would nerf spawn rate OR detection distance of enemies but not both.
I heard that raised ground can be destroyed in ashlands is that true?
Yes, lava blobs can break them when they explode
@@chrisrubin6445 But they explode only when they are near you right? They don't explode on their own.

not sure how creating coal faster is 'OP'...its just coal ffs...
Because it makes a whole crafting station useless.

@@Firespark81 surtling gyssers exist in the swamp. Literally just did the ground below them so the spawn in the water and die. Infinite coal. I just recently upgraded to a zone with three gyssers in close area and have more coal then I know what to do with. Before I was just using one and only slightly running out at time. If you just pop by it every so often you'll just build a steady supply of coal for free.
Attacking a fortress without siegue weapons is super difficult! I do not recommend that way for a solo run. The valkyria spawning near the fortress and the charr attackng you while you building the strcture make this extremly difficult. On your first fortress it can be usefull, but in the latter ones, just use a catapult, they are op agains walls
It's not. I've done it. Multiple times actually and not in admin or anything just to see how viable it would be for my ultimate guide. If you are a mage it's pretty simple. You just have to take your time.
And if you arent a mage, rush those spawners down and get back out.
Make sure to kill the things around the fort before engaging it to closely.
And try and take out those mages quick so you dont get overrun by their summons.
That anime thumbnail is so off in comparison to the games artstyle. Absolutely ugly..
charred are weak to mace's
Honestly hope they make it so we cant build cheese the fortresses.
Just don't be a sheep, choose not to cheese it and siege the fortress with the ram and catapults as intended.
starts with the most cheesy strat cmon bruh
What is cheese about it. It's a wall with no top. In medieval times they used ladders to siege all the time. I'd call that just smart lol
You can cheese pretty much anything in Valheim, all bosses have allot of cheese strategies. Whether you cheese or not, it's a choice in the game.
A real lack of content so the dev said let's just mob everyone and push out two months of work. The gamers will think we worked really hard on the update. lol, we'll fool them.
Ever heard of talking a bit slower lol.
Yea you all lose attention lol
We are all over looking how broken the stamina issue is. Even with the rested bonus it's almost unplayable of when you're doing dungeons or combat. This community needs to stop being so nice because you're ruining a game
The game is built on the stamina mechanic, they’d need to rebalance half of the weapons and all of the enemies in order to get rid of stamina without making the game a cakewalk
just get the elden ring stamina mod. completely solves the problem
git gud
What do you mean, I literally do not have issue with my stamina. In the rare case that I run out I use a potion and it is right back to it. However the rested bonus is something you are stuck to.
All dungeons you can build campfires in to reset your rested buff.
Stop sprinting 24/7, put your weapons away while you run, and space out your attacks while properly moving back and forth to get into attack range then out of enemy attack range.
Basically, get better at the game, the stamina system isn't broken, it is just a mechanic you have to properly take control of yourself.
@@Jalbesbe do not, I repeat, do not put your weapons away in Ashlands. You are just asking for 42 charred to suddenly appear from behind a tree, followed by blobs.
