This is why comedy is so important. He uses it to show that he’s ok. He’s sick yea, but he will always be Michael J Fox. Comedy breaks through all barriers.
This man is one in a billion. Not only did he leave a successful career, inspite of having the obvious setbacks with his health issues, he dedicated his entire life to the betterment of people suffering from a deadly disease. If this is not true heroism then what is?
And his relationship with Tracy is the goal that all relationships should look up to. My husband and I have been married for 25 years, I hope that in 10 years we will still be together and still as in love as MJF and Tracy are.
His speech was incredible. He was funny, factual and vulnerable. He moved me to tears as he spoke about his life, especially after Parkinson's disease. I can't believe how much his son looks like him. They should do a movie about him and his struggle. It would be inspirational.
What a fighter and inspiring man MJ Fox is! It's hard to believe that he's been diagnosed three decades (!) ago and then goes on stage and delivers such a great 13-minute speech - even taking his shaking hand with humor. His achievement in funding Parkinson's research goes way beyond any honor in existence.
Brilliant speech. Those of us who grew up in the 80's remember 80's famous. Michael has achieved a lot in life, some of the most memorable movies ever made. A loving family and a wonderful wife. But you don't realise until you hear him talk what a cracking sense of humour he has. This speech was both funny and moving. He has met Parkinson's head on, and it does not, and has not, ever defined who he is. Michael is still the same person he always was, and his willingness to help others is a testament to who he is as a person. Good man
People in this day and age say "aw, these guys were just 80s famous" like it's something to denigrate, but they don't understand just what a thing that was. Fame really meant something back then, not like today when everybody and their dog is reality tv and social media famous.
My oldest brother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease when he was thirty eight years old. He has benefited from the research and therapeutic developments due to the efforts of the MJ Fox Foundation. Thirty years later he’s still with us and although he has limitations he adapts and keeps on keepin’ on. Thank you Michael J Fox and congratulations, you are so deserving.
I’ve had Parkinson’s for at least 12 years. I’m crying my eyes out watching this, so incredibly heartbroken at knowing what he’s going through, and at the same time intensely grateful for the funding he and the MJFF has provided for research. I can’t express thanks enough.
Michael J Fox will never know how much he truly touched the lives of us “80’s kids”. Yes he was “80’s famous”, but now he’s a living legend and Legends are Forever…
The way he carries himself through this whole speach… nothing but respect to this man and everything he’s been going through over the years. Now THAT’S strength 👏👏👏
In March this year I lost my father who struggled with Parkinson's for more than a decade. All he wanted was to have some dignity around those that knew him. Michael J Fox not only has that, but respect from both his peers in the entertainment business and anyone and everyone that understands what they are going through, but will still love them all the same. Thank you for your courage and example to millions of others that suffer the same disease globally.
I lost my dad 3 years ago to Parkinson's. He was diagnosed with early onset PD right around the time Michael made his diagnosis public. Michael's humor reminds me so much of my dad, who kept his sense of humor right until the end, which came way too soon. Thank you so much Michael, for all that you've done.
Lost both my grandfathers to Parkinson’s. Such a sad disease. It’s so hard watching them go, but it goes to show that it’s your perspective on your situation that truly defines how you feel about it. And that perspective can be positive! I’m sorry for your loss.
What an amazing man & what an amazing speech. I couldn't think of anyone else that's more deserving of this award than Michael J. Fox. He's proof that, "if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything."
I'll tell you a story about a similar situation in my life. 2 childhood friends fought as teens and the more brilliant and promising of the 2 ended up in a year long coma and with a severe traumatic brain injury. The prognosis was "he'll never wake up". He did. Then, " he'll never talk". He did with great difficulty. Then, " he'll never walk". He did with great difficulty. Then, he won't be able to take care of himself". He did. And not only that, he returned to university in our town and earned his doctorate and for years he was tenured mathematics professor. He was killed riding his inline bicycle on the way to campus a few years ago. He was an amazing guy and I admired him and I will always tell people about him. We were fast friends to the end. Thanks for reading this.
Now we have extremely clear why Michael J. Fox is so loved. Not just because he may be the most recognizable 80's actor, but also a true cinema superhero. We love you, Michael! ❤️
Crying not because of his disease but because of what this man has accomplished and achieved…. nobody deserved this more than you Michael Jay Fox. My hat goes off to you sir! What a LEGEND!!
I don't think I can add to what's said here about Michael... but I can definitely say Tracy Pollan is an absolute godsend. To stand by her husband through everything he has endured... with class, grace, a smile, and a heart the size of Texas - she has earned just as much respect.
He said not long ago when asked about Tracy and their 35 year marriage, I'd be dead " meaning I couldn't have made it without her love, support, and everything she's done. Love them both and all of their kids. They're such a beautiful & supportive family. Michael certainly deserves this award! ❤️
It's breaks my heart and laugh at the same time... his way of using a little comedy to combat the illness is uncanny and amazing... 1 day a full cure will be there..thanks to this man and the people behind the scene exploring the possibilities
I've cried 3 times. 1. When he said how much Tracey been by his side. 2. When he said Parkinson's was a gift 😭 😭 😭 3. When he asked Tracey to carry the weight again (his award) Whew! This man right here has truly been a treasure. I'm so proud of Michael J. Fox and am so happy he is honored 🎖 this way. What an amazing Human he is!
No matter Michael’s condition he delivered an eloquent, articulate and memorable speech. What an incredible display of courage. Everything I imagined about what MJF is like as a person, watching him throughout the years has been totally exceeded beyond measure. His humour, warmth and compassion leaves an indelible impression on all of us. He’s simply a beautiful human and his family are amazing. Thank you Michael. We love you.
It is the most deserved Oscar in history, an actor who is in history for the most beautiful trilogy ever and for all he has done in the social sphere.. a life well spent
This may be the most remarkable speech I've ever heard, the most moving and - eloquent - and how his self-awareness and humor keep everyone moving forward. Bless you Michael J. Fox.
What a beautiful speech from a brave man. It is so inspiring to see his vision and optimism, and we should all be grateful he is still able to share his gift of humor with us. Thank you MJF.
Incredible father, husband, performer and spokesperson for Parkinson's who has raised over 1 billion dollars for the cause. He deserves every bit of recognition and respect bestowed upon him. God bless him.
What a great and humble man. I laughed at all the jokes he made, but I also had tears in my eyes. It makes me so sad to see how the disease is slowly taking over. He's so down to earth, so sweet, so nice, never had a scandal. He loves his family and his family loves him! Michael, I wish you all the best......❤️
What a mensch! He is truly a great man. Despite his health issues he has maintained his good humor. I’m sure his positivity has sustained him well beyond the doctors’ initial prognosis of his illness. Long live Michael J Fox!
He's such a class act and I have such admiration for him, his talent, his commitment to his family and to overcome his illness and take something others would think of as a detriment and turn it into a mission to bring awareness and money to the cure of this crippling disease.
Life is unfair. But we still have to suck it up and roll with the punches. My dad lived with chronic pain for most of his life due to a car accident he was in when he was nineteen, but he just kept going until his death last year at the age of 75.
A movie he made when he was young, several people who worked on the movie later developed Parkinson’s, which leads to believe that there might be an environmental connection, especially since he was so young when he was diagnosed, not even 30. Parkinson’s usually doesn’t start showing symptoms until patients are in their 60’s
Actually, it was Parkinson’s that got him to stop treating his wife like $hit. So, you’re probably confusing his acting persona’s with his real persona; which is rarely seen by the public. ❤️🍀
My dad died of Parkinson's, M. J. Fox was a beacon for me and a light, I read everything i could on Parkinson's, M. J. Fox seemed to creep in some of the research as I was deep diving this disease and learning. I just finally came across this video and it brought tears to my eyes. Hes suffered through this horrid disease along time, he was as he said unsure of its progression, it was very fast for my father (15 yrs), it was soul, spirit, mind, and emotionally crushing, MJ Fox has such humor and grace dealing with it, he gave me hope, and he is a inspiration. Im so glad he has such wonderful powerful support, end stage Parkinson's is not anything I wish anyone to have to go through, and the family having to watch the final rapid decline.
A class act! His movies make us happy. The love that Tracy and he have is timeless. His dedication to a cure, his family, and life is priceless! And he still makes us laugh! He is the definition of GOAT!
I'm bawling...as an 80s kid MJF was a definitive part of my formative years. I've seen first hand with family what Parkingsons can do and in less time than MJF has been fighting. There is no doubt in my mind that he has walked with angels throughout this journey. No one deserves an Oscar more.
Honestly seen in happen in the span of a year and it’s awful, but the guy was still out there cutting his families grass and paying for groceries and living his best life with his wife and two sons. Honestly didn’t even realize he had it until I had seen him about a month prior on my way from work back home cutting grass, and then at work he was there with his family and that when I realized he had the disease.
I knew someone years ago who had Parkinsons. He was in his 60s at the time and ended up having an operation to help control the tremors. I lent him my copy of Michael's first book "Lucky Man" and he really liked it.
I have no words except that this man made me laugh, cry and smile all in 13 minutes. A special and heartbreaking character who has such intense optimism, as with his family, that is so inspiring and conversely heartwarming to know that this incredibly special man is out there, facing great difficulty and yet has such a warm sense of humour
What an inspiration! This very special award is so well deserved by Michael J. Fox. I'm so happy that the Academy recognized him for his many accomplishments and humanitarianism. And he has such a beautiful family who is so proud of him! That is the secret of life!
Such an amazing man, and what an amazing speech! Couldn't imagine anyone else more deserving of this award than Michael J. Fox. What an incredible human being. Thank you, Michael!
Who could not absolutely love Michael J. Fox! Being a fan of his since the 80’s, it would be in honor to be in the same room as him! He’s never veered from being an incredible man! The love him and his wife share, it’s so beautiful. His speech was touching, inspirational and HILARIOUS! He is so beyond deserving of this award!!! The world loves you Mr. Michael J. Fox!!!!! You’re one of a kind!!! 💜
When you face what Michael faces daily with humor, strength, hope and smiles, it makes me feel guilty for any complaining about small stuff in life. God bless you Michael.
It’s so wonderful to see a person with a serious physical disability but a sound mind and heart show the world that you can struggle with standing or talking or almost everything and still be a splendid person and a gift to your community. Thank you to a gifted actor and beautiful person ❤
He was a part of lives back in the 80s, he pretty much lived in our living rooms. That really touched me on so many different levels but most of all because I can see that he knows he is not his failing body and talks to it like it's an annoying dog. This man knows who he truly is and that's why he exudes peace and stillness.
Michael is a beautiful example of someone who was dealt a difficult situation but who chose to find good mentors and leaders and made joy and light in a dark place. I have a feeling we are going to celebrate Michael not as the beautiful soul who entertained us but as the one who helped humanity find the cure to this debilitating disease. His humor, candor, and heart are his greatest attributes, and we are all blessed by his courageous life.
I am in tears. An outstanding and heartwarming speech. What an inspiring, intelligent, kind and funny human being. Handling the most difficult of circumstances with such grace and aplomb. Lets "be like Michael J. Fox."
I hate the fact that we've all go to die at some point, it's cruel unjust and a silly cosmic game, this man is awesome, it's just painful to see everyone age 😢, bless you micheal.
Thank you for your vulnerability in your comment. Most of us live our lives distracted with entertainment or chores and not thinking about the temporary nature of our lives-almost thinking we are eternal creatures. But in reality everyone from young people to elderly people are vulnerable to death. It’s a reality that death is part of life just as birth is. I guess knowing we will eventually die can make us treat ourselves and others with compassion and kindness. We can appreciate our lives more knowing the fleeting nature of it. Happy Holidays to you Emmanuel
Death is a great compassion. My only 'problem' is how little time we have. I think 200 years or even 300 is a good lifetime period for a person to have, 80/90 years is just not enough imo. but living here forever? nah, I wouldn't want that.
This life is NOT all there is. Comfort I send to you. Be of good cheer, it will all be alright, I swear to you, I promise you... ...a lullabye I send thee.
He sure does deserve that Oscar. Everybody loves Michael J Fox. What a fighter. I never knew he had no Oscar if I'm honest. Back to the future movie is iconic.
I knew this would be a powerful video but I truly wasn't prepared for just how powerful it was. After about three minutes I was in tears. The talent Michael has shown on our screens is absolutely nothing alongside the stoicism, dignity and optimism he's shown in reality, in the face of his condition.
Gosh he actually made me tear up. Such an inspiration, legend and great actor. I supported someone with Parkinson so know the daily struggles but seeing him up there is beautiful.
Legend, icon, super human. Just some of the words I use to describe Michael J. Fox. A well deserved award for an awesome man! Rock on Michael J. Fox!!!!
My god, this gives me faith. Not particularly faith in God, faith in anything other than human determination alone. What a beautiful, touching, tribute to the will and resolve of mankind to better the future for our posterity. If only every acceptance speech echoed these same selfless virtues-we’d be cured.
I have been drawn to this beautiful human since I was 5 years old and saw Back to the Future for the first time. What a true gem amongst people. Been a fan since then and I am always learning something from him. He’s truly the person who taught me to find job and optimism in little things ❤

Michael, you're such a great man, so courageous and so humble. You transformed that disease in a mission and you're making so much! A future free of Parkinson will be possible. Thank you so much for being such a light!
Michael J Fox. Amazing speech. Had it all. Gracious. Funny. Humbling. Made me both laugh out and brought tears to my eyes. A truly remarkable individual.
My sister has PD and she looks up to Michael J Fox as a mentor. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know. MJF Keep up the great work and let's kick PD out of existence in YOUR Lifetime!
No one is more deserving of this award than you. What a humble, gracious, witty, and inspirational acceptance speech. Congratulations Michael! I am proud to be a Canadian. Sending Love and Light and many blessings.
What a sense of humor-- and perpetual inspiration. I'm not a Parkinson's sufferer, but I'm an elliptic and my right hand shakes a lot too: I have actually looked at my hand and said "stop it/can you not??" the exact same way Michael does. His work will always mean so much to me, as someone who has a condition where the science is also ahead of the money. Instead of looking for cures, the focus is on *managing* it. Generations to follow us deserve a world where there are *cures* for these conditions.
They sure do have some good looking children . His wife is a true gem and he has been really blessed in life in spite of the disease . Lots of love from a long time fan !!
Michael deserves all the best. What a human being. But it's still hard for me to see him like that. I still have this picture of young Michael J. Fox in my mind. :(

I'm bawling...as an 80s kid MJF was a definitive part of my formative years. I've seen first hand with family what Parkingsons can do and in less time than MJF has been fighting. There is no doubt in my mind that he has walked with angels throughout this journey. No one deserves an Oscar more.
Yes Heather..you read my mind!
ME TOO! O my Lord! Those two, Michael and Tracy are a true picture of what a marriage should be!
Me too. Brings tears
I knew someone years ago who had Parkinsons. He was in his 60s at the time and ended up having an operation to help control the tremors. I lent him my copy of Michael's first book "Lucky Man" and he really liked it.
I would watch MJF entertain anywhere, anytime, in any condition, he gave me some of the best memories of my life in the theater and out...
Michel J FOX UN GRANDE UOMO DIO TI BENEDICA GRAZIE PER LA TUA FORZA
What an inspiration! This very special award is so well deserved by Michael J. Fox. I'm so happy that the Academy recognized him for his many accomplishments and humanitarianism. And he has such a beautiful family who is so proud of him! That is the secret of life!
Such an amazing man, and what an amazing speech! Couldn't imagine anyone else more deserving of this award than Michael J. Fox. What an incredible human being. Thank you, Michael!
Agree 100% Lori. His love of laughter and making people happy shines through all.
Man what was it like living in the 80s?? I’m atleast glad I was born in 2000 so that I grew up without phones or social media until about 14
Now this is a human being who deserves a humanitarian award. Bless him, what a wonderful person.
One word can sum up Michael J. Fox.
Icon.
How can one not love Michael J. Fox? What a guy!
I know right??
Always have lived him. Always will ❤
12:09 "my optimism is fueled by my gratitude"
9:40 Michael never fails to make people laugh. 😂😂😂😂He still has it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Beautiful speech. I do like how the camera man was respectful cutting to the audience as he entered and exited the stage
Well that would be the control room Technical Director, as there are multiple cameras filming this. But yes, the sentiment remains!
@@nicholaswingate5645 you got the point … a waist of your time
God this man deserves nothing but love and support. He’s just so good.
The world needs more people like Michael!
Hello dear, I saw your profile and may I say you have such a beautiful and captivating smile
Michael a true talent deserves many awards. An incredible intellilect and brilliant comedian - no disease has stolen his talent
My dad was diagnosed with Parkinsons a few years back. Seeing Michael still kicking it, gives me hope for my dad🖤
You will be the guy... Forever in any timeline of Human history ❤️
I am in tears. An outstanding and heartwarming speech. What an inspiring, intelligent, kind and funny human being. Handling the most difficult of circumstances with such grace and aplomb. Lets "be like Michael J. Fox."
I admire this man.
So strong and inspiring. And the wonderful family he has.

This man is an absolute treasure and deserves all the good things in life.
He sure does deserve that Oscar. Everybody loves Michael J Fox. What a fighter. I never knew he had no Oscar if I'm honest. Back to the future movie is iconic.
God bless this man. So thankful to live in a time to be entertained by him.
Well deserved! His foundation raised so much money for research! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
What a beautiful human being this man is..Love you Michael.
What a class act Michael J Fox is. God bless him and his lovely family
Legend, icon, super human. Just some of the words I use to describe Michael J. Fox. A well deserved award for an awesome man! Rock on Michael J. Fox!!!!
He’s such a kind human. I wish there were more of him!
With everything he is going through, what an incredible speech
I wanna give this brave beautiful soul the biggest hug
My god, this gives me faith.
Not particularly faith in God, faith in anything other than human determination alone. What a beautiful, touching, tribute to the will and resolve of mankind to better the future for our posterity.
If only every acceptance speech echoed these same selfless virtues-we’d be cured.
We're not just watching an actor receive an award , We're watching a dear old friend get an award ❤
No you're watching an actor that doesn't know you from a hole in the ground... stop with the false sentimentality already

Totally right!!!🙏
So well deserved. Michael is such an inspiration 🙌🏼
I have been drawn to this beautiful human since I was 5 years old and saw Back to the Future for the first time. What a true gem amongst people. Been a fan since then and I am always learning something from him. He’s truly the person who taught me to find job and optimism in little things ❤
All of this strength from one man? I'm speechless...
As a fellow Canadian I'm so proud of Michael. God Bless you for your courage.
You have to read about islam and go and listen to ahmed deedat and zakir naik and yousef astes

@@nfe6404 Atleast i'm not so dumb to follow an outdated and ignorant religion as Islam. Proven to be the most violent religion to exist, not something to be proud of 🤫
Michael J Fox is 100% American!
A truly remarkable individual.
wow im trying to hold back tears...grew up watching his movies...first time hearing this speech...🥺
My sister has PD and she looks up to Michael J Fox as a mentor. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know. MJF Keep up the great work and let's kick PD out of existence in YOUR Lifetime!
No one is more deserving of this award than you. What a humble, gracious, witty, and inspirational
acceptance speech.
He crushed this!! Bless u and family!! Well deserved!!
They sure do have some good looking children . His wife is a true gem and he has been really blessed in life in spite of the disease . Lots of love from a long time fan !!
What an incredible speech. We love you Michael.
Tears......
Funny how you can feel you grew up with someone you've never met.
Godspeed Michael.
Michael deserves all the best. What a human being. But it's still hard for me to see him like that. I still have this picture of young Michael J. Fox in my mind. :(
