Canadian snowbird here, not in Fl. this season due to covid restrictions, miss central Fl. And our US friends so much.we do hope to get down to our Lakeland home as soon as possible. Cheers to all you folks in sunny warm Florida.
This was extremely informative and interesting. Well done, Jerry and Linda. I especially appreciate the videos you've done like this one interviewing other residents of The Villages. Everyone's story is interesting and unique and makes for great listening and lots of food for thought. Thanks and I hope you do more like this.
Love your videos. Just retired aged 55 and really thinking about Kissimmee or St Petes area or Coral Beach. I'm from Ireland and can only stay 6 months so really need to know if it's possible or affordable. Everything for snowbirds is doubled almost with 2 homes 2 cars etc, I have been visiting at least once a year for 23 years in different parts of USA. Our exchange rate is terrible so prices are way up. Car insurance if I buy a cheap car is an unknown as rental excessive now. We love all the people we meet and love your country so hope the dream becomes real.
I watch all of your videos sat here in the UK it would be my ambition to be a snowbird from January to March each year but I am not sure that will ever happen. I live in hope, it looks fabulous.
I had never heard about The Villages until I discovered Jerry and Linda on UA-cam. Oh happy day. Another point of view from seasonal residents. It would be permanent for me. Very pleasant couple and interview.
Seems like some people had an interest in knowing why we moved so quickly after purchasing a home in The Villages... thought it would be appropriate to add this as a separate comment (I had responded to the question from an individual below). Response: When we started out before our first visit... we looked each other directly in the face and said "We will NOT purchase a house in The Villages"... and we quickly DID. When we bought that house, we were told that Villagers moved, within The Villages, an average of 2.5 to 3 times... We looked each other directly in the face and said "We will not be one of those people who buy multiple houses in The Villages... this is our first and last house here"... Then we quickly DID just that. In our minds, it just "happened"... we just decided: that we needed more space/bathrooms for guests, have our own pool (without having to wait for it to be built behind our first house) and we became willing to pay for a home with a "view". AND... we're putting it in writing right here... "This is our last house purchase in The Villages!" Al and Sandi
Lovely, lovely video. Always nice to hear other people's feelings about The Villages, where they're from, what they did for a living, etc. You guys do such a phenomenal job interviewing! I've been here 4 years now and l certainly do not miss the winters on Long Island either!
This was a good show in that the disadvantage of two homes is shown. It is especially true that the snowbirds spend a great deal of time on outdoor maintenance during their return North.
Great video to hear how snowbirds do it. I personally will never buy a house with a pool again. It sits there most of the year, but requires constant oversight and maintenance. I would much rather have a community pool (club house) and leave the constant upkeep to someone else, and enjoy a garden where I can grow veg, and some roses. Love your channel. I appreciate it so much. Thank you and be safe 😊 oh, and great editing 👍
Thank you for the informative interview. My husband and I plan to move from MN to FL in 2021. We can't stand the winters any longer! We will continue to watch your video's! Thank you! :)
Goodmorning you guys. It's nice to see you. Just want to thank you for all your hard work we are thoroughly enjoying your videos. But I am up early here on the West Coast this morning when our son was waking me up because he had a fever. So he's been an essential worker and so now our house is on lockdown. Great people and their story is a lot of peoples story or situation, leaving friends, family, memories and place you've lived in for decades and feel comfortable but want to try or experiment something different, they in essence are really anyone of us having to make similar or life changing decisions, they've handled it very well (IMO).
Interesting topic & people. You both have a good interview style. A lot of my friends were seasonal, in this community, but eventually became full timers. It was usually due to aging & medical issues. I found it very helpful to hear about your empty nest program & the internet programmable thermostat. Jeanne
I totally understand how difficult the decision is. It has taken me a number of years to make the decision. Leaving our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren that live here, as well as friends, made it difficult. But, we are finally going to take the plunge! We can’t wait to find a home and move to The Villages, hopefully in June!
We retired to FL from Louisville Ky although we bought a small condo to live in when there as our family is there, TN, Cin. We bought a nice home with pool in Apopka FL and are so sorry we did. Wish we’d moved to the villages!! After 4 yrs here (husband’s cousin lives close by) we want to sell. Fingers crossed we take that step. I’m sure we’d enjoyed the villages so much more! Really enjoyed hearing the perspective from seasonal residents. Sounds like Al and Sandy are figuring out what works best for them as they continue on their retirement journey. Wishing them all the best as they winter in The Villages! Another great video Jerry and Linda! TFS. Happy weekend! 💕
Very nice couple.......I wish them the best of luck in whatever they opt to do. Good questions Linda and Jerry. Another great video! Have a safe weekend; we are going to get another blast of cold temps ...... ugh! Been living in Florida a long time and NOT missing the Long Island winters.🙋✌️😊.
It was a very hard decision to move to the Villages full time...We had to say goodbye to all our family and friends.. my husband said to me this is not a dress rehearsal it's our retirement. Do we want to be a snowbird at our age? The answer is no. Our family visits us at The Villages they love it.... We miss everybody, but I don't want to go back and forth all the time... You had a very nice couple on your show. Thank you so much..
I am also from Wisconsin and I am looking forward to retiring at the end of this year. I do own a home here and I was told to consider being a snowbird or seasonal resident. That sound good and all, but it would be kinda hard to pay for two places, and I will be an empty nester. I would love to do that, but I am over the weather here in Wisconsin. Thanks for the info.
That was a wonderful video and really helps to hear of the work, time, money and maintenance of two homes. We are rethinking that as well. Possibly downsizing here in Phoenix, AZ to a townhome one day, and then buy a bigger home in The Villages. Thanks always for these videos...super fun to see you guys on camera and to meet others through your UA-cam channel is so great! 🎄🎄🎄😍😍😍. Mia
Excellent video! I am a “ snow bird “ and all the points you touched on are so important to consider before buying a home. The pros and cons were spot on. The comment your guest made on moving into an established neighborhood vs a new neighborhood is very true. We bought in December last year in St. James, and everyone knows one another and not you. This has also been difficult with COVID as well. I am not offended by the term snowbird because I count my blessings to be able to enjoy the winters here and the summers at our camp on a lake. Have a house on and lake in the summer and your kids come to visit!🙂😉 Peace!
My grandparents from Kentucky sometimes snowbird. Being Floridian sometimes I feel like they stereotype the state. Being from north Florida (aka South Georgia) snowbirds are almost nonexistent since they all go to south Florida.
i have one word for you guys, "condo" i'm a snowbird and i have a condo on daytona beach overlooking the ocean and when it comes time to head up north i dump out the milk from the refrigerator, lock the door and leave for the summer.
Me, too, Richard, but my husband just can't get into the idea of "starting over" at our ages. I like living with him, so I guess we'll stay in SC. But we/I do get to be a snowbird for a month each winter.🙂
My husband and I were snowbirds for 20 years traveling from NH, we had a small cottage up there so was not bad, we chose to not live in the villages instead bought a mobile home on a canal near a nature park! Husband died 3 years ago and I live here year round, daughter and her husband moved in with me, worked out great. I still miss my traveling days, going back to see family.
It was interesting getting their perspective. I would have liked to have known why they sold the first house for another when they are seasonal residents.

We love being a snowbird... Call us snowbirds, it doesn’t bother us. I was in the Navy, so I’ve been called worse. Thank you for making the videos. Always informative and light hearted.
Well done! What a nice couple. We have similar story except that we sold our bigger home in the NE and bought 2 small homes...one in Ct and one in the Villages. We couldnt be happier. ....oh wait...yes we could....we won't go back to Florida until there is a vaccine. So when that happens it will be nirvana for us ;)
Interesting interview. With the border with Canada closed. It doesn't sound like Canadian snowbirds will be able to visit their Florida homes for awhile. Wonder how much will that hurt Florida's economy?
That would be terrible wouldn't it? To be far away from where you want to be and not able to return. The lack of people that couldnt get back down here may have been offset by the people that could not leave here.
Good job with this video ! I enjoyed hearing their comments as we are doing this too, only in Mount Dora. Owning and maintaining 2 homes can be a job, but with great friends and family it is possible. The internet cameras are really important for us and knowing what's going on. I liked the idea of a business of checking on your house and doing other personal services while away from Florida. Thanks !
This was another fabulous video. Very interesting! Would it be possible to interview people renting down there for the winter? I would like to try that but really unsure what is the best approach. Also, can you do a video on the decorations/Xmas trees in the town squares? I look at the live webcams and see trees but would be better through you guys. Just an idea. Thanks! 😊🎄
GREAT Video w/ an awesome topic!! We fell in LOVE w/ a home we looked at on Monday b4 returning to PA. Almost put in an offer but we are 6yrs until Retirement & felt having a second home so far away & maintaining for 6yrs would be too much. Sad to miss out on a home we both loved but I'm sure there will be others when our time comes. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!
Please, forgive my misunderstanding, but why so many complains about “snow-birds”? If every resident lives in the Villages 24/7 then roads, restaurants, golf etc will be busy all the time. These people pay same amount of money to use amenities. I don’t see anyone complains about that?! 🤷♀️
This sounds like way too much stuff to do especially as we age...who needs to be constantly maintaining things? Here is my model: Rent a Nice Apartment in my base city, which is Phoenix. For the months of June, July and August, rent a home in mountain country, somewhere like Colorado Springs. It is expensive for those 'extra, high cost 3 months', but no worries, no responsibilities, and very EZ to do on Airbnb or Vrbo. In this manner, I could go to many mountain towns, see the western part of the nation for the summer months. I guess you can call me a sunbird.
General thinking is... the longer the term, the easier to get a rental... That's why we couldn't get the two weeks we originally wanted... home owners seem to prefer to have longer term rentals. Obviously, winter months are more pricey than summer... and six months would be easier to find than three (our guess).
Hi guys. You know maybe it's just the way my mind works but I wouldn't see it as the roads and golf courses being busier because of snow birds. I would think of it as it's not as crowded when they are gone. if they were just normal residents they would always be there and it would be more crowded all the time. So I think it's a good thing to have people be snow birds. Just Bobby's opinion. love you guys I enjoyed this video a lot. Bobby
Very interesting video! It’s good to hear about the experiences of your snow-birding guests that you interviewed! We thought long and hard about being snowbirds, but most people after several years get tired of maintaining two homes over a thousand miles apart from each other. We decided to sell our home up north to an in law and setup a bedroom in our former home up north, and buy a home in Florida. That way we could have a place to stay up north, without having to own and maintain two homes. We thought about living in the Villages, but decided that it wasn’t the right fit for us. But we do understand why you love living in the villages. We chose to buy a property in the Florida Suncoast area. It’s been pretty cool lately. Maybe you could make a video about the short 1 to 3 day cold snaps in Florida. You’re temperatures are a little colder in central Florida than the Suncoast area. Maybe you’ve gotten close to freezing lately.
As always another great video. Very informative. One nit, I realize monetizing your videos is important and the reason you do this, but the numbers and frequency of commercials we have to view is getting tedious. Thanks Tom
Yes, like we have told a handful or so folks with the same comment, we have no control whatsoever over the number of ads, the length of the ads, the subject of the ads etc. I do know that if we are to continue to put out 2 or 3 videos each week it takes money. We don't like the fact that you are disrupted so many times during the video, but it allows us to pay admissions, buy equipment, gas etc. Thank you so much for watching.
The Daily Sun reports on it. Here is a link from google: www.villages-news.com/2020/06/02/the-villages-releases-price-structure-for-the-lofts-at-brownwood/
The Liofts of Brownwood opened in July. You could call The Villages sales office about those. The Villages is supposed to be building apartments where Hacienda Hills County Club used to be. I don't know when those will be available. I would guess at least a year from now.
I can't love you guys more than I do... please find some other snowbirds as well and see if their process was about the same? Maybe someone who moved into an established area?
The area we moved TO is an established area... albeit only a couple of years established. We've already met a handful of friendly neighbors. Might be different, and maybe what you meant, if the area were 10 years old.
@@wolfwroses ohh I thought you meant you moved to a new place where you were all new :) I LOVE coming down there. We come and visit people that live in Pennycamp !
@@beckyrobert9072... I know it's confusing... we first moved into a NEW area (2019)... now we've moved into an established area (2020). Amazing how much moving around The Villages there is!!!
Hi Marie, there are quite a few here in The Villages, Including Atlas canine park just a short distance from our home. It is divided into 2 sections, over 30 pound dogs and under 30 pounds.
I have watched all of The Villages Newcomers’ videos and its quite obvious that there is not much diversity in The Villages. I would be interested in an in-depth interview with people of color who do live in The Villages to get an idea of their life experiences in The Villages.
Race is not the only kind of "diversity". There is a great deal of diversity among the residents , even with their similarities. Our experience has found us chatting and golfing with folks from all over, with differing experiences and backgrounds and ideas. That kind of diversity makes for an interesting place and challenging, interesting conversations.
Hi Jerry and Linda! I am interested in renting for 2 weeks to experience the Villages. I am 67, retired RN. I have a wonder adult autistic son that loves to travel with me. Any advice or help on my new adventure?
Hi Betsy, we know absolutely nothing about renting here in The Villages. You may want to call a sales agent at the Brownwood sales office maybe they can give you some advice.
Just had a thought Jerry... your title may make viewers think that we were going to "tell all" about the rumored... you know?... the "things" about The Villages? All the "swinging" that folks have heard about, and often ask us about? To answer that question... we have NOT encountered that crowd... maybe we're hanging with the wrong (right?) crowd?
Interesting video regarding 'snowbirds' and ant bias. I assume if a snowbird is owns a home they pay property taxes, for the full year. Yet they are using services for only a part year. The net effect is that they are subsidizing the fulltime residents, who are getting the benefit of 100% of the services. Nothing wrong with that as long as if you are a fulltimer you realize other folks are subsidizing you. Some places they call that 'welfare' but its just the price of being a snowbird in Florida. Pay your share, and a little more for others.
Canadian snowbird here, not in Fl. this season due to covid restrictions, miss central Fl. And our US friends so much.we do hope to get down to our Lakeland home as soon as possible. Cheers to all you folks in sunny warm Florida.

The lack of people that couldnt get back down here may have been offset by the people that could not leave here.
cheers to all snowbirds !
They pay their way!
Interesting interview; nice couple. Pretty lady. Would have liked their input as to why they moved from one neighborhood to another so soon.
They found a nice home very near the first one, with a pool and a view! 😁
We did post a previous comment on why we moved.
thank you for this video
You're welcome, Greg.
Thanks !
Another great interview. Keep 'em coming !
My neighbors are "snow birds" and they are from Canada.
Thanks! 😊🎄
Thanks Cherie! If we find some, we will give it a shot.
What a sweet couple....enlightening with a wealth of information👍🌞Great interview....amazing channel🏆😌😌🏆🐶
I agree... just rent a furnished home for 3 months somewhere warm if your'e from a cold climate, and do a different city every year.
Great informative vlog. Is there seasonal rentals available in The Villages? (for instance, say Jan,Feb,March)
General thinking is... the longer the term, the easier to get a rental... That's why we couldn't get the two weeks we originally wanted... home owners seem to prefer to have longer term rentals. Obviously, winter months are more pricey than summer... and six months would be easier to find than three (our guess).
@@wolfwroses Thank you!!!
Hi guys. You know maybe it's just the way my mind works but I wouldn't see it as the roads and golf courses being busier because
of snow birds. I would think of it as it's not as crowded when they are gone. if they were just normal residents they would always be there and it would be more crowded all the time. So I think it's a good thing to have people be snow birds. Just Bobby's opinion. love you guys I enjoyed this video a lot.
Bobby
I agree 💯
@@carolapostolos8929 Thanks carol
Love video
My biggest mistake was moving to Fl.
The road that brought you down here will take you right back!
Nothing wrong with snowbirds or seasonal homeowners. They pay fees just as everyone else.
LIKED...
I see a lot of couples in the videos. What's the single population like in The Villages?
Or...you can subscribe to UA-cam Premium and never view another commercial. I figure I follow enough people so it was totally worth it.
Earlier I read that the villages was building some apartments. But now I can not find them on the web site. can you suggest where to look?
The Daily Sun reports on it. Here is a link from google:
www.villages-news.com/2020/06/02/the-villages-releases-price-structure-for-the-lofts-at-brownwood/
The Liofts of Brownwood opened in July. You could call The Villages sales office about those. The Villages is supposed to be building apartments where Hacienda Hills County Club used to be. I don't know when those will be available. I would guess at least a year from now.
OMG! They talk like the drive! Twenty miles under the SPEED LIMIT!
@@wolfwroses oohhhhh !
@@wolfwroses have you thought about renting it out when you are not there?
Yes the snowbirds are back...we can tell ...most of them can’t drive.
The best bumper sticker I saw in Florida said: When I get old I'm moving North, and driving real slow. ;-)
Why did they move so quickly when they bought in the Villages?
They found a nice home very near the first one, with a pool and a view! 😁
@@JERRYANDLINDA Good for them!! That's wonderful.
Linda and Jerry, I need help convincing my wife to retire in the villages. She doesn’t want to leave our grown up children, and are only grandson.
Well Bob, if they're grown up they're not children.😁 😁
Our kids had moved away, so it was no problem.
Miss my Z06
Hi! Does the Villages have a dog park?
Hi Marie, there are quite a few here in The Villages, Including Atlas canine park just a short distance from our home. It is divided into 2 sections, over 30 pound dogs and under 30 pounds.
Why a move so quick from one move to another?
The Villages Newcomers answered this: "They found a nice home very near the first one, with a pool and a view!"
I have watched all of The Villages Newcomers’ videos and its quite obvious that there is not much diversity in The Villages. I would be interested in an in-depth interview with people of color who do live in The Villages to get an idea of their life experiences in The Villages.
Good idea, so would we. We have invited several friends to be intervied, and they have agreed, but covid worries may have it on hold. Stay tuned.
At 5:30 in the video, the couple says they tried to rent but it wasn’t possible. You’ll have to do one of those life style visits but it’s not free.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
Interesting video regarding 'snowbirds' and ant bias. I assume if a snowbird is owns a home they pay property taxes, for the full year. Yet they are using services for only a part year. The net effect is that they are subsidizing the fulltime residents, who are getting the benefit of 100% of the services. Nothing wrong with that as long as if you are a fulltimer you realize other folks are subsidizing you. Some places they call that 'welfare' but its just the price of being a snowbird in Florida. Pay your share, and a little more for others.
Well said, Thomas.
