Alright Jerry and Linda, what have you done to me??? I commented a few days ago that I somehow stumbled across your channel, and have no understanding (as a 52 year old, Georgia-living, have-no-desire-to-retire-or-move-anywhere) why it captured my attention. Fast forward to today, and I find that I have now somehow consumed at least 20 of your videos, and having downloaded the entertainment and education curriculum brochure, now find myself reading through what classes are offered, and locating where they are on the Villages online map!!! --- have you cast a spell on me or what??? Love y’all’s videos! Hope I will be there soon!! Question for you, I don’t play golf, will I enjoy it there if I don’t play? Would I still need a golf cart? Thanks!!
You don't have to play golf to enjoy the villages.. But… having a golf cart is one of the greatest joys of living here. This is a whole new way to get around, run errands, & have fun. There are certainly other communities that would offer you more house for the money than the villages. But not many communities offer you the entire package with all the infrastructure and activities that are available here.
Jerry and Linda--Thank you for your wealth of knowledge! You two took the plunge and you are happy. It shows. Our CT home is not suitable for aging boomers so we are going to give FL a try by renting for a year. During that time we will assess if we like the culture but we will also visit planned communities including gated ones and see if something will work for us. I have seen many of your videos and they have all been helpful in one way or another. Amazed here at how many non-Floridians just sell out and move and buy in FL right away. I always measure 3 or 4 times before I cut. I'd love to be your neighbors. And of course let us not forget--Gizmo who really is the star of your videos!! Don't worry-be happy!

I just can’t wrap my head around snowbirds. It must be so expensive to keep two homes maintained. Not to mention the worry about what is happening at my house in the north while I’m in the south. Then when they go back north, they have to worry about the Villages house. Then there’s all the stuff you have to buy for two houses! Then you said they still have to pay the amenities fee even when they’re not there. Wow! Can you get a six month rental apartment in The Villages?
Loved this vlog. Your guest was excellent (and did a fine job even though looking at the camera…Thank you Ryan). Been there 3 winters in a row until Covid and absolutely LOVED it. But I am one of those snowbirds from Canada, and renting is my preference. Unless I win the lottery….
Loved the show; great idea to have Ryan on the show. I bought his book ‘ Inside the Bubble’ a few years ago; a very good resource for those interested in TV.
The Villages are a tribute to recreational life. If you want to spend your time playing golf and socializing, then go for it. Without a doubt The Villagers favor couples and while everyone is welcome it is a far more enjoyable environment as a couple. It just is what it is-a place for recreational activities among people of your own age group.
There are tons of single people here. And of all ages, from their early 50s to the 90s and even 100 year old people here. Also lots of diversity here despite the rumors.
I don't think there are any cemeteries "IN THE VILLAGES". There are some just outside TV. I think the big thing here is cremations. And lots of people might have their bodies sent back "home" for burial.
Great show as always..really enjoy reading Ryan’s blog..thanks for sharing : ) Pets and treats to little Giz, we missed him but perhaps he was supervising off camera or working on his jokes : ) 🐶🐾💓🙂
Jerry/Linda curiosity question, why is there no spas/Jacuzzis in the Pools, I find that odd since most Resort style hotels have them, why not in any of the Villages Family Pools??
Maybe they (The Villages) estimate the number of people living there by assuming they are 2 people per house or condo and multiplying that by the number of units????
We went to The Villages for the first time in March 2019 ... went back in May 2019, looked at 50 (yes, 50 homes) and then put an offer in on one of the houses. A month later we became Village Home Owners! It just seems like I've been hearing the same numbers 60,000 homes (or so) and 120-160 population. But every time we go visit our home (because we have 3 years until we can retire) we drive to the "new" area and see neighborhoods that were just dirt ... now completed areas (like St Catherine) and new areas being worked on. I really wish everyone who was thinking of retiring would be able to visit The Villages and fall in love with the area and the people who live there such as we did! (And of course the enthusiasm you Newcomers have after 3 years of living there. I completely understand why you may not be so eager to travel ... we always thought we would travel once we retired but I can see just staying put in our home there and visiting our family.
Yes the home prices in Fla around that time after the 08 recession we’re 30/40% less during 2009-2011 time frame that’s when I was considering it also - beautiful homes there and OTOW for such great prices. I will definitely be waiting for the next recession before I bought I would not purchase in a strong sellers market but that’s just me.
Those are bison not buffalo.Buffalo live in Africa. Everything else good. We were at the villages in the summer seems just as busy as winter. Btw, if you want to see a herd of bison or wild mustangs go to Payne's Praire Preserve state park. Take I-75 north. You cant miss the interstate goes right through it.
Scientifically, the term buffalo is incorrect for the North American species. ... However, common usage has made the term buffalo an acceptable synonym for the American bison."
Comment......I like the villages and hope to retire their in about 10 years......but I wonder what it is going to look like in about 10 to 20 years when most of the baby boomers are gone that had true pensions that actually could retire and now the large percentage of younger folks that want to retire one day will never be able to because they are broke....who is going to be able to buy and live in these houses........it just boggles my mind? I guess that is when home prices will have to go back down or it will no longer be a retirement village because someone will have to buy these homes.
No we cannot. Our lot is too small. We have found however that it is really easy to take the one minute cart ride to our neighborhood pool. Then we don't have to upkeep, or pay for pool maintenance perior maintenance.
@@JERRYANDLINDA You are very wise to not put in a pool even if you had the space for one. My Mother's home had a pool and it was a money pit. Constantly needing very expensive repairs over the years and that didn't include the chlorine and the constant cleaning. She eventually had it filled in and she will very happy that she did. Where is Gizmo today?
@@NavyWife We had a 20' X 40' inground pool in Virginia. A storm made a sinkhole like area and caved part of it in. Poor hurried pool construction. Had it filled in as well.
You both know I love you, however the issues that are negative are true. Building apartment complex,Taking out popular dining restaurants, Now they are talking about taking away the movie theaters. Residents being told they will not be building past 466.It seems like that the developer doesn't make them money then he takes it away. Are there things to do there,YES, but I wouldn't like it ,if I moved there because I liked certain things and take it away.My biggest issue is the apartment complex.Don't get me wrong I love the Villages ,but I feel the homes now are in the 300 thousand range and you don't get a lot for that kind of money. But they are selling at insane amount of money. So Jerry not when you bought ,but the last year, you definitely have to have lots of money to live there.
Interesting story about the buffalo, but there's one small problem: only bison live in the United States. Buffalo live in Africa. Thank you for another interesting vlog.
Ryan did remind me of a “deer in the headlights”-he seemed very uncomfortable. I downloaded a sample of his book to check it out. Since I had not read his book, I would have liked a more detailed account of its contents and how he gathered his material. Since he doesn’t live in the Villages, I confess to being skeptical of his sources. I get the idea of “the bubble” but it almost gives the impression that life in the Villages is not realistic. One thing that I’m concerned about is the number of rentals in the Villages. My personal experience with living in a development that was made up of mainly investor owned rentals was not good. Sadly, I’m afraid that prices are becoming unaffordable for us. Hopefully I’m wrong-we’re going on our second lifestyle visit soon.
Jerry and Linda those jokesters! Haha, no it was all my fault I studied their previous interviews beforehand and didn't quite grasp that we'd all be in the same shot for this one. I'll do better next time ;-)
@@daledivine4625 he appeared to be looking at the wrong camera or something. He was very informative but we almost thought he wasn't told where to look.
Great show but interviewing side by side is Awkward ! He looks straight ahead and Jerry looks at him. He never looks at Jerry! Maybe time for a 2 camera shoot!
You did great Ryan. If anybody was at fault it was me, for not explaining it well enough, and not noticing it at the time. The important thing is the information and you are an absolute champ at that. We thank you for coming, you did a fantastic job.
It's not hard to understand why some people think that only rich people can live in The Villages, and not because of the price alone. Golf courses are usually associated with Golf Clubs that have ridiculous annual fees, so the average person can't pay that to play golf. Unfortunately, also, most "rich" people are republicans so it's easy to think that exists there. You mentioned celebrities who live there - well, they must be the ones with the multi-million dollar homes with in-ground pools and "bird cages." Just watching your videos tells me living there is like living in Paradise.... enjoy the good life while you can !!!!!! Great video as always !!!!
That is soooo totally untrue about only rich people here. Sure there are quite a few but I can attest by my wife and myself. We moved here from Virginia in Feb. 2014 and relocating in our 60s was the farthest thing on out mind. We had not managed our savings for a move like this but we barely did it. We're definitely among the minority of the rich people because we are soooo farrrr from that.
There are many up north that sell their homes for a million or more then built here for a lot less, but still more than most can afford. For them it’s a win. Housing prices in TV’s may keep retired school teachers, cops and firefighters from retiring here, sadly.
@@bonnieflanagan9297 " Housing prices in TV’s may keep retired school teachers, cops and firefighters from retiring here, sadly." Are you kidding! Teachers, cops, and firefighters enjoy rich government pensions! Many at six figures!

I don't remember if this was ever addressed, are there cemeteries and funeral homes in the Villages?
Yes.
I don't think there are any cemeteries "IN THE VILLAGES". There are some just outside TV. I think the big thing here is cremations. And lots of people might have their bodies sent back "home" for burial.
"Inside the Bubble" is a great book! Read it cover-to-cover this week. (Don't have the other one yet.)
Yes, it is! 😁😁
The only one is at Orange Blossom way up north.
Famous residents or parents of.....David Bromstad of HGTV Lottery Dreamhome, his parents did live in the Villages at one time.
Maybe they (The Villages) estimate the number of people living there by assuming they are 2 people per house or condo and multiplying that by the number of units????
Home value increases are great for my kids but what about for my property taxes??
Good question.
And nothing but the truth 😂 👍🏻💪🏻
More than the amount of people activly living in the Villages ... how many homes are there?
60,000 or so!
My neighbors claim to fame is a share of the Nobel Peace Prize .
Sounds like it’s 6 o clock somewhere
My only regret is that I didn’t buy a home when I did a Lifestyle visit ten years ago.
Awesome show. Go Buffalo! Or is it Buffaloes?
Buffali. Ha
Ok you 2 educators. Where would these famous people be without dedicated people who became educators .
“”Inside the Bubble” is a perfect descriptor of the villages. Let’s hope it gives the real pros and cons of living in a bubble.
I noticed that too. Maybe stage fright. He looked cute
Missed Gizmo 🐾
What, no comments from Gizmo? 😛
Where is giz?
On the flo.
Jerry and Linda, can you add a built in pool at your current location ?
No we cannot. Our lot is too small. We have found however that it is really easy to take the one minute cart ride to our neighborhood pool. Then we don't have to upkeep, or pay for pool maintenance perior maintenance.
there may be enough room for a small kiddie pool. maybe.
🇺🇸🙂👍❤️
Did you tell Ryan to look at a camera that isn't filming?
Jerry and Linda those jokesters! Haha, no it was all my fault I studied their previous interviews beforehand and didn't quite grasp that we'd all be in the same shot for this one. I'll do better next time ;-)
Very informative but I wish that Ryan would’ve looked at you instead of just looking straight ahead!! Maybe he was dubbed in to the video, lol!!!
He sure looked straight at the camera the entire time.
@@daledivine4625 he appeared to be looking at the wrong camera or something. He was very informative but we almost thought he wasn't told where to look.
Ryan has explained the reason for this this several times!
@@tmilwaukee real? When? I must’ve missed it? What was the reason, if I may ask?
Most likely it was poor directing from Jerry.
Great show but interviewing side by side is Awkward ! He looks straight ahead and Jerry looks at him. He never looks at Jerry! Maybe time for a 2 camera shoot!
They had two cameras but this interview newbie didn't quite understand the setup. I'll get it right next time ;-)
You did great Ryan.
@@bonnieflanagan9297 " Housing prices in TV’s may keep retired school teachers, cops and firefighters from retiring here, sadly."
Are you kidding! Teachers, cops, and firefighters enjoy rich government pensions! Many at six figures!
