Inverting a mini LEGO donut

  • Here is the short for the mini LEGO donut: • The Mini LEGO Donut | ...
As suggested by ℕ𝕒𝕤𝕖𝕖𝕞 in that video's comments, “What if you did an inverted version where the curved side is on the inside?”
That was a very good idea, and to be honest I’m surprised that it worked so well. You can see that it doesn’t really want to hold together as it’s constructed, but once all the pieces are in place it does manage to hold itself together quite nicely.
So I give you a mini LEGO donut, and its inverse--both of which are amazing little builds. 😁

    Piece breakdown
Mini Donut: Half round 4x8 plates (52), 1x1 round plates (104)
Inverted Mini Donut: Half round 4x8 plates (51), 1x6 plates (51)
    Notes:
    1. I used 1x6 plates on the inverted mini donut rather than 1x8's, as the corners of the 1x8's hung out over the smooth inner curve.
    2. It's interesting that the inverted mini donut works better with 102 layers rather than the 104 in the mini donut. Not entirely sure why that is, but for some reason the 104 layer inverted donut is just a little bit squidgy. I'm assuming there's a very slight height difference between the 1x1 round plate and the 1x6.

Not Functionally necessary, but the inverted wheel would have looked nice with the orange studs on either side of the planks to provide a splash of color.

Secondly, those were serious Sauron vibes that eye at the end was giving off! 😮👍 Is there a way to make an inverted donut with a groove or track cut into both sides of the wheel to build a platform that would stay stationary as the wheel rolled? Like a giant wheel car for cave guy? Does that make sense? 🤨
