Squirrels are underrated. Come join me this summer in my Creative Engineering class!! Monthly.com/MarkRober. Being able to design and make stuff is a superpower that can be learned and that more people should have!
Watching a squirrel actually memorize the path of a maze by looking at it outside and then being able to go inside and get it perfectly on it's first try is one of the most mind-blowing things I have ever seen, I could not believe that a squirrel could posses that level of intelligence. Most of the other challenges by contrast were still really cool and funny, but were mostly just brute forced by repeated trials.
Fun fact, squirrels have the ability to sort their food by type (walnuts from almonds from seeds etc) and then bury them in different spots. This whole memorization thing is really advanced memory, so it makes sense
Fun fact: Flying squirrels are no different from normal squirrels, but they have a big flap of skin between their arms and legs. They use these “wings” to glide from tree to tree, parachuting, with MORE drag. So they glide.
It’s incredible to me that they would actually take the time to plan out the maze from the outside before actually running through it. These squirrels actually exhibit better problem solving ability than some humans
Despite not having much interest in engineering, Mark's way of talking, teaching and entertaining keeps me glued to my screen in his videos! What a fantastic teacher!
A few months ago, I watched a breakdown of how Mark's videos are laid out. I don't remember the exact steps, but he does have a methodology that lures you in within the first 30 seconds and keeps you watching until the end.
The fact that the squirrels were not only expecting the brick to fall back, but also were preparing for it! This amazes me. Squirrels are so intelligent
My respect for squirrels just keeps growing. Curious, witty, persistent, agile, nimble and straight up adorable creatures. I wouldn't mind waiting another year for a part 3!

Am I the only one blown away by the squirrel's learning abilities? Not only did they memorize and master each part of the course, they were able to adapt, learn, and teach each other how to perform in the course. That's crazy awesome for squirrels
