Two big problems with the CineBack: - The two cages, you picked, both obstruct the EF filter adapter, so lens and filter adapter have to be removed, if you want to change filters. Had you gone with the Kondor Blue R5 C Cine cage, the filter adapter would have been clear. - You covered over the multifunction hotshoe. This should be opened up, so that either the Tascam XLR adapter can be used or at least the multifunction relocation cable can be installed. The way it is now, it's going to be a no go for me.
yeah - great points. When I get mine, I'm going look into how I can mod the top plate for the XLR adapter, but now seeing the bad comments about that adapter I might switch to the Zoom F3 since it seems more evergreen and that can easily be mounted to the top plate. I just got up the Titla cage for CineBack and I don't mind it, but I also have the Kondor Blue cage mainly to solve for that EF adapter clearance. I'll see if the KB cage fits (I doubt it b/c it is barely taller than the Tilta)
Legit will be ordering as soon as available!!! Thank you for creating this! We need pictures or video of this thing fully rigged out! Pls fully rig in the future.
@@backyardwindowI had to stop relying on mine due to same issue. I ended up rigging a chest mount Zoom F8n rig with a Smallrig VM50, case, and wireless radios for more capabilities. And an attached shotgun mic and wireless TX to send to the R5c. And a pair of Tentacle Sync E!
@@backyardwindow once i figured out to never plug in or remove the XLR unit while the camera is on, or incorrectly send phantom power to something like a rode wireless mic, or plug in/unplug a phantom powered shotgun mic from channel 1, I havent had any issues in over a year and a half.
I suspect (though am not certain) it may be due to the monitor with cineback is still able to pivot and twist around to different positions, where as the monitor on the pxyis is fixed where it is
Can you make available a different site cheese plate for the canon r5 or r6. Like a shorter cheese plate to close the gap and make the lcd fit better in the side slot?
I'm missing a few things in this design. First and foremost, a solid protection for ports like USB-C and Micro HDMI. It would also be great to allocate space for additional accessories that would turn the R5C into a true cinematic beast, such as: -An adapter from Micro HDMI to HDMI + SDI (e.g., the Micro Converter 12G from Blackmagic). -A slot for inserting a Tentacle Sync E for timecode. Currently, unlocking the full potential of the camera creates a huge mess with all the cables and accessories. However, if these elements could be seamlessly integrated, keeping everything organized, it would be amazing. Another great feature would be to have a section of the top plate that can be easily removed with a few screws, providing access to the multifunctional plate. And if it were compatible with Kondor Blue, I’d order the pro version right away!
Will it be compatible with the new canon R5 mark ii? Since the body size has not changed much from the original R5, I assume it gonna work but will see.
Hi, pretty interesting kit for this camera. The main issue with the R5C (I own one) is the lack of built-in ND filters… If you do not need 8k, I would suggest you to go for the C80 from the same brand.
This looks great. I just hope to see a cineback for either the Sony ZV-E1, Nikon Z8, or the Fujifilm X-H2. I would love to have all three but any one of them would be great.
I use the R5C currently with a battery grip and cage that fits that set up. I'm switching my rig to support a vmount now and this seems too perfect... please tell me it would work with the Black Mamba cage. I just ordered that but this whole set up seems ideal that id be willing to swap out plates and mounts for this instead.
But after adding that it seems you will now have problems mounting it on a gimbal and using tilta float to smooth out your video. Whereas without it, gimbal use and tilta float can be used. How will you stabilize the video when moving with camera using CineBack??
correct me if i'm wrong: the two compatible cages you'd mentioned only mount to the camera via the threaded holes on the bottom? is there no other point of contact that's secured to the camera directly?
Hi would the Black Mamba” Camera Cage for Canon EOS R5 C fit this rig that cage for the R5C has an extended base plate that i have been running with for a while would love to keep that cage if i can
Will This work with the Canon R5II? I am waiting for tilta or smallrig to come out with a cage for my R5markii but would love to rig it up with cineback. I love my cineback for my FX3 but would love to get this one as well!
It reminds me of an article I saw about a rental house who made a similar cine-style box for the Fuji GFX100 II, but I don't believe theirs was for sale. I'd really like to see how you would go about rigging it up with a top handle, a monitor, shotgun mic, maybe a HDMI transmitter, etc and then using it in a shoot. I have a C70, not an R5C or anything, but I still think it looks pretty cool.
does it work with the black mamba cage from smallrig ? It looks so amazing. thanks for making it. Could you make a Rig build with a monitor and TX RX system with the cinnebag and R5C , maybe just a monitor..Something Atomos ninja V or something ? @@smilesprouniverse you’re better off going for the rigidpro or other camera cubes for an older model like the s1h. Personally I think it’s one of the best cameras ever made, but no one is making these mods for the c70 or s1h since the s5iiX and r5c came out
Is possible to replace the plastic (3D printed) element? As an environmental documentary film maker, even more plastic in the environment is disappointing. However, great design and idea.
Wow just saw this 4 hrs after the video, super excited, went to e website to order and it’s out of stock (out of stock 4 hrs after vid drops) Any idea when you may have more available?
Interesting design! Just have a couple suggestions after watching your video. Allen or torx fasteners for side pieces vs Philips would be a lot nicer. A cheese plate option for the rear of the unit for those of us that have a v mount or gold mount plate already. A hidden dtap inside the door area. Not on the door, just directly behind the camera so one could choose to plug in there for power from a dummy battery etc and hide the cable. A 3.5mm audio jack to XLR solution would be a nice upsell add on. Think wooden camera A box or similar. A flatter side door with some more 1/4-20’s.
Nice review and product. Some D tap cables will allow you to reverse d tap connector so you can have cable coming in from positive or negative side. I just had to do that with my Alvin's D tap to dummy battery cable. But haveing an option to rotate the at whole plate is awesome.
Great! However, you can't use the Tascam audio addition to get the pro audio into the camera. Also, the R5C is great for its form factor if I have to turn it into a full cinema rig, then I could use a bigger cam. I use a Sony battery adapter with the USB-C, and it has been great. Additionally, Canon has updated the firmware, and now the battery life is not so bad; if you use the newer batteries that are on the R5MKII, then you can have even more time, always shooting at 4K. Plus, it's a bit steep in price.
Totally agree. Clever design and looks well made etc. However, I have the RC5 but can't realistically see the point of using this Cineback in a real work situation - makes the compact RC5 enormous, all for longer battery life? I just run a usb cable from the R5C to a small vmount in my pocket :-) For everyday work I use the C70. For work that needs photo and video at the same time/same day then I use the R5C but this Cineback would make it hard (impossible?) to use as a photo camera.
I'm so glad Caleb designed one of these for the R5C! Does anyone know if CineBack for the R5C will work with SmallRig's Black Mamba cage? The reason I ask is because the Black Mamba cage incorporates the SmallRig micro-HDMI to Full-HDMI adapter better I think than the Tilta cage.
