This video features a walk through Heidi Village in Maienfeld, a nice traditional style Swiss cultural village that presents the origins of the world famous Heidi story. Heididorf gives the name to the whole Heidiland region and is situated in the northeastern part of Switzerland, not far from Liechtenstein. If you like traditional Swiss villages and learn about Swiss culture, this Swiss travel video on one of Switzerland's famous places is for you. The story of Heidi really comforts me. I remember having a tough childhood, I can't seem to remember the fun parts of it actually. But I do remember, reading books about Heidi, or watching the show, I felt comforted. It was the one time that I felt safe. I love Heidi so, so much. I have to visit Heididorf, it means the world to me. It really does.

Know it as a child, there was no Heidiland in these times with 150 000!!! visitors a year, just the house. No entry. I loved it since I loved Heidi, esp. the part where she felt sooo homesick in Frankfurt😢

Thank you Matthew. Yes, I was lucky with the weather again that day 🌼🌺. The Heidi story is a famous children story that has been translated in numerous languages. The animated series did air in the US as well but I’m not sure if it still does...

Yes, it’s open on Sundays. You don’t have to buy tickets in advance. It’s not that crowded and there’s a good chance it’s actually quite empty during this season. Here’s the link to their website: www.heididorf.ch/en/
OMG... I can't believe that I actually found a vdo related to my all time fav book HEIDE. Is there a direct bus/train from Interlaken to visit this village? I sooo wish to visit there. I am traveling this weekend to Munich for 6 weeks. Please do share some info about trasportion from Interlaken to this place. TIA.

Yes, you can get there via public transport from Munich. You’d probably have to take a train to St Margarethen or Bad Ragaz and take a bus to Maienfeld. You’d need to factor in about 4 hours one way I assume. Safe travels!
@@januslog Thank you for the prompt response. I am travelling Europe for the first time. The website says it is open till 15th Nov. I guess I have to visit by Nov 2nd week itself. There is no direct night train or bus for Interlaken, but I ll check the route which you have suggested. One last question, do we have to buy the one day SBB transportation pass too in advance to travel within switzerland? Thanks again.
@@pritijain3547 train travel within Switzerland is generally quite easy and you will be able to get to Maienfeld from Interlaken too, but it will take you probably around 4-5 hours as there will be multiple connections to take. The ride is quite scenic though :)
On train tickets, you may want to see how much train traveling you want to do in Switzerland as there are several passes that give you half fare or even no additional fare but they’re only worth it when you plan on traveling more than a couple of days. Safe travels there 👍😊

Heidi is a fictional character created by a writer who got inspired by the very village I’m showcasing in the video. So in a sense, a real Heidi did not exist.

The closest airport is probably Zurich. From there you can take the train and then a bus to reach Heidi Village. Or you rent a car and drive there from Zurich

Haha, you can go there without paying but you won’t be able to go inside the buildings. It’s like a museum with some buildings being original and others rebuilt based on traditional plans. It may not be for everyone but I actually enjoyed it 😊
