  • Every game commits a sin.
    Welcome to GamingSins, where we expose and nitpick the hell out of video games.
    Well, this ought to be interesting. Mass Effect 3 was one of the biggest games of 2012, and also one of the most controversial, and for good reason. So we decided to count all of the sins included in it.
    *And yes, for all you rabid fans out there, we know that a lot of what's included can be explained through the Indoctrination Theory, but since the theory was never confirmed or denied, we're gonna pretend that it doesn't exist.
    Obviously inspired by CinemaSins. If you haven't checked them out, please do:

      I experienced the whole thing from start to finish.
      Mass Effect 1 was a buried gem, something that could grow into what could be the greatest series of games ever created.
      Then Mass Effect 2 came out, wasn't as good as 1 but still an okay game except for daddy issue companions.
      Then Mass Effect 3 came out. Gameplay improved. Everything else...
      I just get depressed everytime I think about it.

    3 more sins to add;
    1) At no point does anyone consider the Crucible to be a trap placed by the Reapers.
    2) You are not given a choice about whether or not to dedicate time and resources to the war effort instead of building the Crucible.
    3) Sheperd doesn't immediately question the legitimacy of the Crucible when the Prothean AI admits that his people didn't come up with the Crucible. Because, you know, the Reapers don't _explicitly_ go after and destroy technology, brainwash people to do their bidding and could've found out about it-oh wait. Yes they do.

    • @MrRjwagner
      @MrRjwagner 8 років тому +6

      +Blackemperess I could see that, but, let's look at it from their perspective. "We're being systematically slaughtered by an alien race of sentient/organic hybrid machines that were sent to take our lives every 50,000 years to ensure organic and synthetic life never obliterates the other and every attempt to take them down or delay them has failed, now our backs against the wall and we only have this one last weapon for our salvation." Liara even admits they only found it through 'process of elimination' and 'desperation." I wouldn't be surprise if they thought about that idea, as well, but, well if you're fighting a war that is impossible to win conventionally and you have the blue prints that contains trace technology of past cycles contributions, would you not use it if it meant saving you, your family, and the rest of galactic civilization? Because, for me, I probably would in the end. If the Crucible activates like they wanted, they win, if not, they die either way. Regardless there was practically no reason not to use this potential super weapon because if it failed, or does what you suggest, than it would be the same result as if the Reapers pulling the trigger.

    • @Blackemperess
      @Blackemperess 8 років тому +9

      MrRjwagner
      Logic would dictate that something wasn't exactly right with the crucible, desperation be damned. Shepherd especially would call bullshit, because it would be a little too convenient for them to all-of-a-sudden come across something they can make and save their lives. I was screaming red herring as soon as it was introduced.
      But my main points is that the game doesn't even let you point out the questionable nature of the crucible or decide not to build it.

    • @MrRjwagner
      @MrRjwagner 8 років тому +4

      Blackemperess Or, or, just hear out... the writers didn't know how to actually stop the Reapers and needed a quick way out to fit this game into a trilogy. It's very possible they couldn't think of any other way to logically defeat the Reapers, so they just thrown in this super weapon that was constructed by the past cycles.
      I also noticed that the Construct/child never actually explains who it is that created it and subsequently the Reapers, I mean, obviously someone, something must have. You can't build an A.I. system out of nothing, unless God decided one day at the beginning of Creation that he would create such machines, but other than that, someone had to be the first one to put hammer to metal, to be the catalyst that would be Creation's worst nightmare.

      True!
      If I remember correctly, and it's been a while, the original writer had an ending already outlined before he left/got reassigned. But when it leaked, Mac the Hack Walters and that other tosser Casey Hudson decided to cut it completely and wing it.
      Hence the slapdash bullshit we got served on a hot steaming platter.

      Blackemperess Thing is, ME 3 wasn't as terrible as people claimed it was, okay sure it was no way as good as ME 2 which is personally the best out of the three games, but it was still fine and it was nice to actually see this series at least get an ending. How many games have been left with a vague ending or straight up led to a sequel being needed to explain more and continue the story but never came for one reason or another? At least the ME trilogy had a beginning, middle and end.

    For the Prothean to English sin, I think after the Cipher in Mass Effect 1, Shepard automatically hears all Prothean language in English. Yeah I’m pretty sure the cypher, having permanently affected Shepherd, was confirmed to be the reason they could understand the Prothean language. On a side note, Protheans could also read the biology of the different races btw, and I’m pretty sure that in his first scene aboard the Normandy he does this to Shepard. Afterwards he says that he is able to learn different languages this way, which is a pretty handy little skill really!

Plus half your Team exists out of a Turian,Quarian,Salarian,Asari,Drell & Krogan. Funny thing with Mass Effect.
    Leviathans enthrall races to serve them.
    Leviathans observe that thralls create synthetics that often rebel.
    Leviathans create an intelligence to "police" said races who create Synthetics and maintain order.
    Intelligence goes on to destroy organics, destroys some leviathans, creates harbinger and goes on a mass genocide every 50,000 years.
    Leviathans sit back and say "eh, fuck it" and the intelligence goes on with its "kill shit to preserve life" bullshit.
    Shepard meets a Leviathan, convinces them to kill reapers (this should really be the real ending as they can utterly annihilate reapers) even though they've been sitting still for MILLIONS of years doing NOTHING.
    Intelligence doesn't mind its creators joining the war and continues on with its insane genocide.
    Seriously, if the idea is that synthetics rebel, then surely it's not wise to take it from this fucking INSANE AI that lives in the citadel. Were they going for a HAL9000 reference of a machine that becomes homicidal but on a larger and self-delusional scale.
    Basically, play Mass Effect 3 up to the Harbinger event, then switch the game off. That's where the game ends, GG.

      Yes, all three of them said this.
      "even though they've been sitting still for MILLIONS of years doing NOTHING."
      Once again, still near extinction and we have no idea how they reproduce, if they can anymore or how long they live. And if someone burns your house down, kills your family and lets the air out of your tyres, the smartest thing to do is not to run into their base with a machete yelling "Argle bargle wargle".
      "Intelligence doesn't mind its creators joining the war and continues on with its insane genocide."
      I'm sure when the mice and beavers joined the war against the White Witch in Narnia books she didn't lose much sleep either.

      Ok, how about this. if the Leviathans really were so powerful that they could conquer the Universe of organics(which Bioware wants destroy-ites to think) but are also powerful enough to destroy a single Reaper, why didn't they just use the multiple extended periods of Reaper inactivity to destroy Sovereign, enslave the entire Galaxy, have them all create ships to destroy the Reapers, something they could easily do considering they BUILT THE FUCKING REAPERS IN THE FIRST PLACE(the Reapers aren't actually that strong, their major source of power has always been surprise, which is why they centralized all power in the Citadel as ME 1 elaborated entirely).
      Instead, Bioware just pens this atrocious story with none of the charisma or intelligence of the first game. Shit, i miss the glory days of ME :(

    • @phillipsrulez
      @phillipsrulez 10 років тому +1

      SempiternalScientist For a person that has "Scientist" in their user name I find your analysis of the science and literary points of the Leviathan plot questionable.
      1. A reaper not Harbinger(The single capital ship harvested from the Leviathans) was downed by the leviathans this is true, however it was downed when it arrived in very low atmosphere a few meters above sea level. Why was it not downed when it entered the the star system or or in orbit laws such as Electric resistance increasing with distance or Signal strength deteriorating with distance can easily explain this.
      2. The Reaper capital ships and destroyers are not the only methods of warfare the reapers have used in ME2 and ME3 multiplayer they use seeker swarms to paralyse humans In mordin's requirement mission the Vorcha get a plague from the Collectors(Reaper Agents) that renders all species except Vorcha and Humans VERY sick.
      The Trilogy has it's flaws but your arguments and many stated in this video calming the writing of Levaithan DLC and ME3 is "atrocious" has lost all credibility to me.

    • @SempiternalScientist
      @SempiternalScientist 10 років тому +1

      phillipsrulez
      Oh really, you want to argue 'science', since I'm pretty sure all 'science' went out the window with ME3(not ME1 which actually stuck much more closely to maintaing the plausibility of hard sci-fi) when the magical space wave in the synthesis ending magically reassembles everyone into synthetic beings which suddenly stops everyone from killing each other. If this was ME1, i might have accepted your knowledge of two out of countless other countervailing laws as marginal evidence, but considering we're playing on Mac Walters Michael Bay sci-fi, where only logic should be used, not scientific laws, logic dictates that Sovereign(who was killed by the fleet) could easily have been taken out by a combined force of even one race.
      Your argument about seeker swarms is beyond risible. Seeker swarms don't even affect space vessels which is what we're arguing here. Even more ridiculous is you plucking at random straws like Mordin's requirement mission, where you think the Reapers have developed chemical weapons capable of breaching a hul inter-spacel and infecting a ship. My point is the Leviathans perfected indoctrination, hence their indoctrination would be stronger than the Reapers(as has been proven). In this sense, the whole point of the trilogy becomes inane through Walters' writing in ME 3 by revealing the 'real' villains of trilogy as the Leviathans when the conditions for Leviathan domination existed all throughout the trilogy according to the logical conclusions of his own writing.
      If the 'Destroy ending' really does mean the Leviathans will 'take over' the galaxy, they must always have had this potential to take over the galaxy unless of course, they're trapped in their giant seas and your whole argument about signal strength is correct, in which case the Destroy argument again becomes the best ending, since we eliminate the genocidal reapers and the big squid never come out of their precious seas.
      If the Leviathans could actually take over the Universe as Bioware wants us to believe with the Destroy ending, then there is literally no change between the time in which the Reapers remain wholly inactive, and their destroyed state post-Destroy ending. In this sense, the Leviathans could have subjugated the entire ending, built the ships which I specifically stated are wholly immune to seeker swarms(I played ME 1, which I'm sure you have not, ships are impervious to Reapers as long as they concentrate fire together) and destroyed the reapers methodically.
      I played the games from the year ME1 came out. To those of us there from the start, the absurdity of the ending is apparent, to those who jumped on from ME2, it is less so since the main plot became jumbled up from the Reaper foetus at the end of ME2(when Mac Walters began to take over). I understand people such as yourself might think playing ME2 makes you entitled to an opinion, but it really doesn't.

    +1 Shepard has a glorious battlespeech, saying something like "This is it. No retreat, no surrender - if anyone falls, it has been an honor serving with you", but calls in pickup from air suport as soon as a squad memeber is damaged. Even at the most crucial time.
    +1 At the trench-run, Normandy goes from being engage in space combat, to picking up squad memebers on Earth within 14 seconds.
    +1 There has never been any technology like the "beam to Citadel"-beam or the weird purple biotics, the Illusive Man suddenly has.
    +1 Saren wanted synthesis and Illusive Man wanted to control the Reapers - both bad guys goals is perfectly valid options for Shepard in the end. Synthesis is even encouraged by the Star Kid. Should just have kicked back in a bar in Mass Effect 1 and let Saren do that, instead of stopping him.
    +1 Your romance from Mass Effect 2 doesn't show up to your funeral. Hardly any characters from ME2 does.
    +1 Where is Shepard in the "control ending" breathing? He/she must have fallen FROM SPACE to Earth, as the Citadel was destroyed.
    +1 For 3 games have you been uniting the galaxy in a story which key theme is overcoming differences and standing together to face the real threat. Yet none of this pays of, since standing together and overcoming differences between species will never work anyway says the Catalyst, and the only solution is just for Shepard to jump into some light. F*ck all your hard previous work!
    +1 (Omega DLC) You help Aria retake Omega, but she will just keep on chilling in the Citadels club, as though nothing was changed in the status quo - also, Omega won't become a hub again.

    While there's obviously some nitpicking and jokes (sometimes one "sin" is both), most of these are genuine problems with the game. Not game-breaking in most cases, but genuine problems. The ending being one. Don't get me wrong, I love this series, and while I did thoroughly enjoy the ride that ME3 takes us on, the ending was a burning bag of failure compared to the rest - including the plot of ME2 that most people dislike so much! Throw out this ending, and replace it with one that I saw suggested in a video linked to a forum on the subject (can't remember the name or link for the life of me, though) where we get a grand finale against Harbinger and the rest of the reapers, and then you've got a magnum opus for the series! In utter SPITE of the ending, though, I love the game and series, flaws and all.
    On a side note, I appreciate that Bioware cared enough to release the extended cut in an attempt to quell the hatred of the ending, but it was like throwing a coat of polish over a dead animal. Sure, it'll look shiny, but it's still dead. And no amount of polish or shine will bring it back.
    Last side note, the one thing that pisses me off the most (just voicing my humble opinion) is that, despite all the hardships, the loss, the betrayals and overall dismay Shepard (and by extension, us, the players) had to put up with throughout ALL 3 of the games, there isn't even an OPTION for a truly happy ending. All the war assets, galactic readiness, preparations in the first 2 games; it all meant nothing. Brought peace to the Geth? Helped EDI feel truly alive? Well, if you want even the faint hope that Shep's alive, you have to DESTROY both of them. Telling me the crucible can't specifically target Reapers is utter crap - you're telling me that with ALL the Reaper tech, artifacts, and actual dead reapers that we've encountered, the army of the galaxy's most brilliant minds couldn't add in a way to make sure the Crucible's blast only targeted Reapers? Sorry, not buying it. Sorry for the long post, but I really wanted to blow some steam. Also, Citadel DLC is the true ending!

      "Brought peace to the Geth? Helped EDI feel truly alive? Well, if you want even the faint hope that Shep's alive, you have to DESTROY both of them."
      That hurt most of all. It was terrible to have to choose between keeping a promise to Tali (EC makes it hurt all the more) or keeping the Synthetics alive.
      Oh well. Maybe Shep can convince the Quarians to rebuild the geth?

    • @Drocksas
      @Drocksas 10 років тому +9

      Woody Reid I romanced Tali too, and the more I think about this ending, the more I realize that each ending goes against Shepard's character, at least if you went Paragon like I did. Shep would do anything short of killing innocents to stop the Reapers - if he had to wipe out an entire race, as the geth could well be classified towards the end.
      So, I scrapped the cannon for my own version of the ending, where I destroyed the Reapers without killing any other synthetics, and went back to Tali to live on her homeworld and raise two adopted kids - one human girl and one quarian boy. Oh, and visit Garrus somewhere tropical on occasion while we sit back and make it big off royalties from the vids!

    • @addemup4044
      @addemup4044 10 років тому

      I went Paragon as well, and I had to destroy the synthetics. Letting the reapers live would have meant letting Starbrat live. But with a quarian admiral on my side (not to mention being the savior of the universe and all), I was fairly sure I could convince the Quarians to rebuild the geth.

      @Drocksas 10 років тому

      Woody Reid First, on that last part of your comment, absolutely! And I totally get the wanting to kill starbrat, but I destroyed the synthetics because A) it killed the reapers, which was the whole point of the crucible in the first place, and B) it was the only option where Shepard lives, and I was NOT about to leave Tali by herself in the galaxy. Just wasn't an option.

    Fun fact: the story in ME 3 was originally gonna be something way different than what we actually got. Remember when Dark energy was constantly mentioned and referenced throughout the second game? That was gonna be the main plot point for the third game's story. I can't remember the exact details but this was gonna be the explanation of why the Reapers go through this cycle. To try and find a way to survive this destructive force of the universe or something along those lines. But unfortunately, the guy that wrote the story for Mass Effect 2 left Bioware before the script for ME 3 was even written and the result was the half assed story we have today where the Reapers used painfully obvious flawed logic that even a ten year old could see past. At least it's still an okay game. The second one is still the best one, though.

    • @Chrinik
      @Chrinik 8 років тому

      So you obviously believe the "collective intelligence of all reapers" when it tells you that "blowing us up would also totally screw over your friends"?
      I dunno...in the entire destroy ending, you never actually see any Geth fall over, nor EDI for that matter, she only shows up on the end on the rememberance board.
      Well, lucky that the fourth game ditches that entirely.
      To be fair, most branching story games like this can´t really keep branching and have to converge to some way again. They fan out in the middle, and then converge back to a limited number of endings. It was almost inevitable.

    • @borjankosarac3645
      @borjankosarac3645 6 років тому +7

      There was a different ending planned, back when ME2 was relatively new - the Reapers would be harvesting organics because their overuse of the Mass Effect Relays was building up dark matter at a rate which could potentially destroy the universe; hence their stopping progress each cycle. Shepard would have the option to either let them continue harvesting or destroy the Reapers and seek another solution to the dark matter build-up... Basically, it would be pretty ambiguous about what the result of your choice would be.
      Still, while the above would have also had the whole "pick one of two/three" possible endings, it would have at least made SENSE unlike the Starbrat's nonsensical ramblings (and that Shepard somehow cannot oppose him, except for the Refuse Ending which gives NO real depth beyond "rocks fall everyone dies").

      I loved his cutscenes and dialogue items. Of all the ME3 characters, he was one of my favourites to cultivate a friendship with, because it started out rocky and adversarial, but then evolved (very nicely) into a real friendship. As a squadmate, however, he was very bland, especially next to other Soldier options like Ashley and Garrus. I took his best ability (that inferno blast) for myself, and then never used him in a mission again.

    While Mass Effect 3 had a fair number of problems, and this video could potentially be funny if it was more clever or well-thought-out, a lot of "sins" highlighted in this video come across as as badly-thought-out. Of particular note, at the beginning of the game, was the mention of beginning the game with access to powers: that's only true if you import a save file. You'll begin at whatever level you ended Mass Effect 2 at an start with a vague approximation of whatever abilities you picked when leveling up in that game (you'll also have 2 or 3 more skill points than if you leveled up to 30 in ME3 itself). A blank-slate playthrough begins at Level 1, with barely any access to anything. The way the game it balanced, being at level 30 means more options without making you particularly overpowered compared to a low-level character, so this works and aptly rewards players for playing through the second game and carrying over their Shepard.
    The complaint that the game begins "as if no one knows about the Reapers" is also kind of silly, since the game actually does have different dialogue for imported saves versus completely new games. An imported save features dialogue from Anderson that's more specific about what happened at the end of Mass Effect 2, while a fresh new file will have more vague-sounding dialogue so as to avoid spoiling the second game's final boss. A bit of a silly precaution since players of the game will go on to learn the broad strokes of the harvesting plot eventually anyway, but the game's opening is also part of the demo, so it makes sense to have a relatively less-spoilery variant dialogue line there.
    Mostly this kind of just reads like a less-funny imitation of CinemaSins. CinemaSins is not only more clever, though, it's also about cinema. This kind of thing can be applied to videogames, but I think it needs to be adapted more thoroughly to really poke fun at gaming-specific problems. There were times when I chuckled, like when you highlighted the weirdness with the kid or when you poked fun at certain characters being stubborn when there was no need toward the middle. But the video ended up two long and bloated with less-funny sins, and the impression I was left with was that you were trying too hard to run up the counter.

      sasuke47001 To be fair this game was still pretty damn good. Obviously it's not the best game ever made (is it even possible to designate a game as the 'best ever'?), but it still had a lot going for it. It had a pleasant blend of story and combat mechanics and, unlike other games where choices don't mean shit (looking at you, David Cage games), your choices were important. I think the problem was that they weren't reflected properly in the last game at all. I mean, the Rachni Queen? Krogans? LEVIATHAN?! Where were they? The ending tainted the entire series in my opinion. Pick your favourite colour and watch a pretty lightshow with minor CGI edits was all it was.

      Jack Sparks Agreed, but for a game to be "the best ever" is merely an opinion. If someone called Gears of War the best game ever, it might be the best game ever that they have played before to them, making it an opinion.
      sasuke47001 ^^^ It was his opinion on his favourite game. What's your favourite game? Do you have a game that you think is the "best ever"? Probably not, but you may have one that you like above others. What if I were to tell you to shut up and that you have low standards? You probably wouldn't care or maybe you would care and turn on the Caps Lock as you did above. Either way, I have made my point. Think hard and reply.

      Chad Schlesky Can't be bothered to think hard, anyway, A game that is that flawed is not the best game ever to anyone, It's damn right terrible, and is a disgrace to the series, and it's generally an opinion, some games are amazing, which only little will refute, while some are terrible, but some people might even say it's the best game ever, Mass effect does not even fit into the good section, for fans or non-fans, 1 person thinks it's the best game ever = delusion, , not opinion
      , it's like ranking a game in stars, If one person thinks it's a 10 while others think it is a 5 , and don't be so damn fucking ignorant calling it an opinion, it's not about opinions, its about what makes a good game, flaws and negative, the experience, it doesn't just jump down to opinion, I hate how people always cop out, by saying opinion this and opinion that, Opinions are totally irrelevant, the other games have better features and by now are cheaper than ME 3 there for makes ME3 inferior to the other games

    • @hopearchangel4624
      @hopearchangel4624 10 років тому +10

      Again, it was an opinion. What is the definition of an opinion? Do you want the answer from a dictionary such as Webster or yours? An opinion is a personal view: the view somebody takes about an issue, especially when it is based solely on personal judgment. The fact that you dislike the game and think is terrible is basically an opinion. In your dictionary and mindset, it may be different, but this is reality. Even if he was the only one to like this game and think it was the best, he is still entitled to an opinion, the basis of this discussion. Okay, I'm guessing you're still being ignorant and ready to comment back something else that resembles stupidity, so hear me out. Let's say someone liked paint and you liked the brush. We take a toll and every single person we meet says, "I enjoy paint rather than the brush." I guess they're all wrong and you're right, eh? Don't tell me how stupid the comparison was. It wasn't the real one. I was comparing it to you. Do you now understand how unintelligent you are?

      i'm going to disagree, being asociated with ea ALWAYS deserves a sin and mass effect's track record is shoddy as hell, the only game they didn't fuck up royaly in some way is mass effect 2(not that me2 is perfect, but fuuuuuuucccck), that's one out of 3! ME1 was shit gameplay wise and ME 3 was only kinda shit gameplay wise, but has one of the worst conclusions to a trilogy since ever (also most of the party members sucked)

    • @QrazyQuarian
      @QrazyQuarian 8 років тому +3

      ColeVecsion ME1 gameplay wasn't that bad. Furthermore, you can't blame EA for ME1 because they weren't involved at the time. Also, ME1 gets extra props because it lets you explore and discover the world on your own. The other games do to a certain extent, but not to the same degree as ME1. It was more open-world. The lore was awesome. The Reapers were awesome (in every sense of the word). Gameplay might not have been as simplified, but it certainly was good. Remember that Bioware was trying to blend a tabletop RPG into a shooter at the time (something different than Knights of the Old Republic, which they were also behind). I think that gameplay-wise, ME3 was the best. It was the most refined and it fit really well with what the audience wanted. ME2 was by and large the best game, I do agree. Story, gameplay, lore, graphics--it made ME2 twice as good as its predecessor. But ME3 sucked super hardcore because of its story. I'm still uber pissed at EA for what they changed about the Reapers and how they basically gave the original lore the shaft. And the fact that I had to pay extra for content that was already on the disk pisses me off even more. So ME3, while its gaming mechanics were good (even multiplayer wasn't half bad, but I can think of ways it can improve), the game can screw itself.

The new found peace between the Geth and the Quarians was proof enough of that and Shepard should have thrown that it that little turd's face before tossing him out an airlock and destroying the reapers.

      Anderson wasn't a part of the US Military. There is no US Military in the series. They're all part of the Systems Alliance. No doubt that EA are the greed whores of gaming, but on the very first title they let BioWare do its thing and stuck to promotion. Which worked out really well. Then in ME2 and much, much more so in ME3 they took BioWare's role down to just the basic concepts more or less. So EA is not all bad, when they sit in the backseat and shut the hell up during the development & production stages they can be a real asset. But those dollar-signs in their eyeballs get so damn big they're well known for knocking down any good idea for another pointless overly-expensive DLC pack or yet another Horde Mode Multiplayer Map.

    8:07 - If you picked up the Prothean cipher in the first game, this is explained as Shephard being able to understand their language through it. And Javik later reveals that he can adapt to any language once he's touched another being thanks to his physiology. If only we could've gotten the ending we deserved, man. I hope with the next iteration BioWare can have all the time they need. People will hate it no matter what, so I just want them to make the best game and tell the best story with the best characters possible.

    • @TechnoMinarchist
      @TechnoMinarchist 10 років тому +12

      Actually, the main writer, Drew Karpyshyn who was also the creator of Mass Effect lore/story wise was taken off the writing job shortly after Mass Effect 2 was finished to start work on writing for The Old Republic (which is ironic because this resulted in two flops) and the other two writers were left to finish it off and were told to basically come up with an ending because apparently Drew's ending was 'too sci-fi' for the casual common audience to find it appealing.
      The ending we got was not even remotely similar to the ending Drew had envisioned and although he had no actual script written out he had a basic plot for how things would go planned out ever since ME1 was first in production and this was fully realized at the end of ME2 with the human reaper. Why harvest humans in particular to make a human reaper? I don't see them doing that to any other race. Why the reason was because there was a sun that was going to destroy the universe (this sun is mentioned in ME2 when you save Tali on that hot planet) the reason for its expansion is unknown other than it having something to do with dark matter/energy. The reapers were harvesting humanity into a single reaper in the hopes that with humanities diversity that we could concoct a plan to save them and the universe.
      The ending was a situation where you would choose between letting the reapers die and working out how to solve the problem yourself, submitting humanity to the reapers to save the universe or allowing them to harvest every other race in the hopes it will work in exchange for human survival. (This is only the basic layout that was made, it isn't very fleshed out but this is what he had planned since ME1 and obviously it needed more fleshing out... But at least it made sense and most importantly at least it STUCK TO THE GOD DAMN GENRE. Mass Effect is not some james bond during a war sci-fi where you go about trying to kick ass with faceless men (Battlefield if it was in the future). Mass Effect is about working things out scientifically or sociologically so you can compromise (generally). Mass Effect is practically a more action packed more modern Star Trek (the show) but with an over arching plot. That's why it also has a grainy effect option as well, Bioware themselves said they wanted to mimic Star Trek.
      Somewhere along the line EA said this (not actually but this is the gist of it), "The public don't like Star Trek and will find the other two ME games boring, so we need to make this one sell lots and make it stand alone with lots of exposition so the audience doesn't need to play the other games. This way we can change the entire genre, direction and feel of the game so it will appeal to the people who are not part of our fanbase because that will probably be more people (so they thought)"

      Wow, that explains a lot in regard to how the game changed from absolutely awesome to what the hell is this.
      There was also a rather weird change from the first to the other games in terms of gameplay design.
      The first had a lot of exploration while the second and third basically did away with that. Couldn't help but feel as if that was a conscious decision in order to appeal more the casual crowd, changing the game from an action/roleplaying game to an action game with upgrades.
      Anyway, things have really gone down hill for Bioware since the move to EA.

But I guess this is more high tech aawsum than that boring science stuff that you don't get to throw away. And you get to hunch back behind concrete walls shouting "I AM OUT OF AMMO!!! I - I MEAN SINKS!!!" -(insert stereotypical war movie/game) -style

    • @justincanu9153
      @justincanu9153 8 років тому

      "They explained that in the first game" alright well first off it's not unlimited ammo, it's just a lot if we're going with in universe explanations.
      Secondly they scrapped that tech during the second game and created new guns that use disposable heat sinks to cut down on wear and tear, which the hand gun used is obviously equipped with.
      While I don't really care one way or another if you're going to use in universe explanations to rationalize a silly point you might want to actually consider the whole picture, heat sinks are ammo limiters and the gun shouldn't have had an unlimited fire rate like that from a realism standpoint, not so much a game standpoint.
