- Time for another chunky cover. Steely Dan...nice, unusual chords and quirky melody runs for a popular song.
Had a good dose of the flu a little while ago, so that bassline and decending double-stop (a la intro and choruses) gave me something to slowly come to grips with while the voice was all but a squeak!
Still lost in the 70's....but it's a pretty cool era to wander.
I cannot believe this only has 59 likes. Best acoustic guitar version of this song I have ever heard!
Well, thank you! It’s one of the more complicated numbers I’ve had a crack at….and still run it fairly regularly 🙂
Hey Janine! So cool! I enjoy your playing and singing. Thanks.
Cheers Victor
wusste nicht schon mal hier gewesen zu sein :
always a pleasure....
great playing... and sweet nice voice....
love it.... 💞
I love this, fantastic.
Your voice is amazing.
Like how you combine singing and guitar ability on an equal level.
Again, love it. do a little feat cover, your voice would really suit lowell georges songs.
Outstanding! All the way around
Great rendition of a great song!
Great performance!
Beautiful 🥰
Beautiful

Cheers Kurt!
Very Nice. Lifelong fan of the Dan.
Well done.
yes! love all these old songs you play.
Beautiful! Really well done :)
Thanks Jeremy! It was a nice, big chord number to explore 🙂
Absolutely perfect. Just incredible. I'm blown away...... you must post more stuff.
.... as usual for you ........ just the best ........ rough, ragged and smooth
👏👏👏
Hi again Janine - I was bopping around looking for covers of this song when low and behold - here you are again, I'd like to say, bold move covering a Steely Dan song and not jus covering their song, but doing so with just one guitar and one voice AND some how getting all the iconic sounds into it. Once again, speaking as a guitar vet of 50 years - NICELY DONE!!. I was wondering, as you have learned your skills and stylings, what players have influenced your guitar playing over the years?
Hey Kev,
As far as guitarists go, I’m not too sure...it’s always been about ‘songs’ and chord colours. I’m very bass-brained, that used to be my role in a number of bands in my 20s. and 30s...but always played 6 string too. There’s music I’ve grown up with, but that doesn’t mean I’ve dissected it to play.....George Benson comes to mind...and octaves do pop up I’m my arrangements. Nile Rogers (Chic) was a fave for quite a while.... I think that’s definitely in there: right hand funk rhythm. In my early 20s I was listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn....so that thick rhythm playing appealed. Earth Wind and Fire in a bass and guitar sense too....really hard to separate parts into ‘just guitar’....was always the song. So, yeh, nutting out those little bits of horn parts, BV parts, descriptive bass lines and distilling them down is a lovely puzzle to nut out....and then there’s stuff to add, so old covers can become more descriptive over time. Then, there’s the idea that I should have been a piano player (Mum, and her parents were)....do love pulling apart Kate Bush, Elton John and Life On Mars is a wonderful song fir solo guitar. 🙂
Another brilliant cover.
Awsome
Incredible technique. Love the upstrum at 15 second mark. The triplet at 22 seconds. Great vox. Love the harmony at the end as you let the guitar do the melody at 3:51. Do you have any music on the streaming services? Any original music?
Thanks for the detailed kindness 🙂 Got a couple old LPs on iTunes, cdbaby, probs streaming platforms , and there’s some newer sketches and instrumentals on my UA-cam channel (under the heading © JM I think)
@@neeni4 what’s the name of the LP? Also, I have a personal challenge for you. Do you like Blackbird by McCartney? It would be perfect for you. Actually I’m just being selfish. It’s a favorite of mine. Haha.
@@seventhtrumpetmusic Ha! Aaah…that’s where I’ll have to disappoint you. I actually don’t like picking apart specific ‘guitar’ songs. It’s been done. I prefer songs folks don’t usually have a crack at, 24 chord piano-based gorgeous, lush, beautifully chorded songs.
The expensive album is called ‘Results May Vary’, the cheap one (though it’s the same pool of song writing) is ‘Homework’s’.
Want hard copies? I still have too many 😂
@@neeni4 that makes perfect sense actually. Why try to cover a guitar song with a guitar when the guy who did it already nailed it? Ok I’ll bite. How do I order results may vary? Sorry to blow up your comment section for this. There probably was a more appropriate way to comment directly to you, but I’m new at this…
@@seventhtrumpetmusic wanna through me your email? I’ll let you know from there 🙂
