- Baldur's Gate 3 reviewed on PC by Leana Hafer.
I don't want to say every CRPG going forward should aspire to be like Baldur's Gate 3. Not everything needs to be nearly this big and ambitious, or even this dense. But it is a landmark moment in the genre, and if I had to point to one paragon that I would like everyone else making these to take inspiration from, this is absolutely it. I waited 14 years for the stars to align again so that we could get the ideal mix of crunchy, tactical, old-school RPG combat, an epic and well-written story with complex characters and lots of meaningful choices, and a level of polish and cinematic presentation that let me see the sweat and the sorrow on characters' faces in their darkest hours. Plenty of other games have partially completed that list, but the last time they all came together was Dragon Age: Origins in 2009. And I can finally say that game, and its Infinity Engine predecessors, have a worthy successor that’s not just matched their RPG greatness, but surpassed it. Baldur’s Gate 3 is just about everything I could have asked for.

119 hours in...im in act 3. i want to restart LMAO this game is addicting asf
On my second playthrough , being legit evil and it's like a whole different experience
It's experience is nearly the same as a table top game of D&D with the sheer amount of options to do, and branching storylines, with a few house-rules from Larian. It is THE Roleplaying videogame.
It’s like people forgot about Divinity Original Sin 2. That game had some unbelievable openness in its story and gameplay.
Divinity original sin 2 on release was like a Bethesda game, buggy mess and often unable to finish because of bugs. Now, it is great. And BG 3 on release is great, that's a big difference between Divinity original sin 2 and BG 3. So people didn't forget about Divinity, they just played it when it was released and because of it, it's written in gaming history as an average game even though, now it is in a state of masterpiece.
@@Frantisek_Bobisud you… you realize that this game has been in early access’s for 3+ years right? Released in the exact same state as DOS2 was. Educate before you say anything

Yes, this really is a once in a decade kind of game. Crazy it is also a $60 no strings attached, no shops, no passes, no DLC, just one huge and complete game.
Yeah remember that?!
You mean the way games used to be.
This is what happens when you have a company that produces a game without the chokehold of a massive multinational conglomerate making all the decisions. This studio self made, self funded, and self published the game. They had complete control. Imagine if more studios had that.
Once in a decade for CRPGs maybe. We’re living in the best era of gaming in history as of now. Elden ring released last year and this time Tears of the Kingdom, Street Fighter Six and Baldur’s Gate 3 all released within a few months of each other. Counter Strike and Path of Exile both getting very promising sequel games very soon. And Indie games have been completely popping off for even longer like 5 6 years with masterpieces in their respective genres and focuses like Hollow Knight Celeste Slay the Spire Hades. AAA titles are finally capturing what we thought possible with the current gaming technology, and indie devs have much much greater access to more powerful tools letting them more easily and reliably see through on their visions
Not sure why y'all pretending this to be a new thing. Few comes in mind tho. Ff16, deadspace 2, ghost of spart etc.

70 hours in and just started act 3. To say its been worth my time is an understatement. This is like showing up to play dnd and your DM has every battle map, mini, a binder of world lore ready to tie into your own backstory, voices every character perfectly, lets you pickpocket the boss because its fun, and tells you they got nowhere to be so you can play for the next four days.
Meanwhile, I'm 70 hours in, on my main playthrough, and have just had a party at camp in Act 1.
In my defence, at least 10 hours of that was spent trying new things with Withers.
70 hours is act 1 full completion tbh. 😊

Take notes. This is NOT a multiplayer shooter, this is NOT a games-as-a-service. This does NOT have microtransactions. It's just a great GAME. Fix yourself, industry, and follow this shining example of what gaming should really be about.
The problem is, it won't make nearly as much money as a the latest FC24 so on the eyes of shareholders, this game will be a failure. Many complaints like, EA, Activision etc put profits over everything.

@@DeepDimpleDemon So...I should've even bother with BG3 then?
Developers nowadays seem to be in despair, cautioning players: "Don't let yourself be spoiled by the quality of Baldur's Gate 3". In today's gaming landscape, games have to be released with bugs, feature microtransactions, and consistently provide less than what was initially promised, and we have to accept it. This situation reminds me of the release of The Witcher 3.
Such an incredibly well made game. It very much deserves a 10 and at the very least a 9.
Anyone giving less than 10 has to be biased. Even the sometimes clunky camera or little bugs can't touch the 10. Especially when we know that Larian will fix these little issues pretty quick

What is crazy about this game as well is how a new game with new characters and classes will have a very different story. Every story arc plays out differently depending on who is in your group. Currently on my second playthrough and it's WAY different than my first.
Yea. It didn't need to have playable origin(companion) characters like every other RPG out there. But they did it anyway.
@@zebwiz1900 Nah it's not like other games at all lol. Have you even played the game? The main storyline completely changes depending on who you have in your party. Not different companion missions with the exact same main quest like most games. The story fundamentally changes. Literally no other game like it.
@@FilthyCasualVR most of this is illusion of choice. the story remains mostly the same (you can boom Gale, but that's a gimmick), and the game has so many endings because there are multiple NPCs you can save or get killed depending on what you do and they show up or they dont, giving many ending combinations. There is a lot of choice in this game but the main story remains the same with only you deciding how it ends. The illusion of choice is shown clearly in the last act with the two villiains and who you "choose" to side up with or not side with either.

Except there is no box 😢
Definitely agree that the bigger companies have gotten lazier, but games are also orders of magnitudes bigger than they used to be, so there are always going to be more bugs, because they are so much more difficult to detect.
Well, there's plenty of indie games that hold themselves to the standard of 'don't release it till it's finished'. It's just the AAA industry that has adopted all kinds of slimy business practices.

My fighter carries a flaming sword and never sheath it on his back cause it's on fire... Immersion 500/100
Worthy game for the perfect 10. An absolute GOTY contender.
Not sure how we could ever ask for more from a video game. Absolutely insane.
Have it not be turn based.
@@MrSoloDolo20100 congrats, you missed the point
Well you could ask for them to clean the bugs out and improve stability.
It could use a battle royale tbh
@@MrSoloDolo20100 would give witcher 3 vibes
Starfield shitting its pants right now 😬
The reference to dragon age origins is really accurate, we've finally got a worthy successor to that classic of an RPG
Yeah but surpassed?
Ubisoft could learn a thing or two, specially concerning its increasing micro-transactions in the recent years
A lot of AAA companies can learn, but they won't.
100 coins to respec is a godsend.
Whose here after Game of the year award
10/10? Really?
Awesome! Tears of the Kingdom doesn't deserve GOTY.
Me and my other friends who liked turn based final fantacy stopped playing the series entirely qhen it went hack and slash. Dragon age was the next best thing. Soni look forward to this when it comes to console. Finally some more turn based/strategy fighting.
Yeah u can try to play the other one’s Divinity Original Sin 2 while u wait for Baldurs Gate 3. It’s the same studio & lots of fun & will get u ready for it ❤
man what's a nostalgic thing to see. BG2 was the revolution at its time and now BG3 is again the REVOLUTION. No one was brave enough to make BG3 because BG2 was such a legend BUT you guys at Larian Studios did and another LEGEND is born. What a masterpiece
