Most complete game out of the box since the early 2000s. What a shame how far the game industry has fallen. Much praise for Larian on showing other companies,l that it can still be done!
Definitely agree that the bigger companies have gotten lazier, but games are also orders of magnitudes bigger than they used to be, so there are always going to be more bugs, because they are so much more difficult to detect.
Well, there's plenty of indie games that hold themselves to the standard of 'don't release it till it's finished'. It's just the AAA industry that has adopted all kinds of slimy business practices.
Uh DS3, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Bloodborne, GTA 5, TW3, Doom eternal, Skyrim, New Vegas, indie games like Hollow Knight, terraria etc. You are just objectively lying for no reason, BG3 is a great game but people have got dementia for not realising we have been getting great games for the past 10 years, you just need to use your eyes and not be blinded by hatred.
This game is incredible and it deserves all the success it will gain. Other game developers should be worried, THIS is the new standard we should expect as a consumer!
Developers will start making games like this when consumers stop buying the bad games. But gamers love to buy bad games. Diablo Immortal made $500 Million. Seems gamers like bad games.
Such an interesting, comprehensive review. Thank you. I'm glad that Dan, seemingly, did not force you to finish this review by some unrealistic deadline.
Also for as much as we all love to clown on Todd/BGS, no game developer has even attempted to create their own elder scrolls style RPG, until Avowed and we don’t know how that will turn out yet

Divinity original sin 2 on release was like a Bethesda game, buggy mess and often unable to finish because of bugs. Now, it is great. And BG 3 on release is great, that's a big difference between Divinity original sin 2 and BG 3. Larian Studios deserves all of the praise they are getting! The game is a masterpiece!
The reference to dragon age origins is really accurate, we've finally got a worthy successor to that classic of an RPG
Yeah but surpassed?
2023 should be awarded as the best year of gaming with the amount of 10/10 games coming out.
LOL, that's a joke right?

@@rossedwardmiller1997 and 1998 were the greatest years for gaming and movies
Which games? 😂
Edit: this question is for the original comment. Not the one above. Do people know how @ works??
Most complete game out of the box since the early 2000s. What a shame how far the game industry has fallen. Much praise for Larian on showing other companies,l that it can still be done!
Except there is no box 😢
Definitely agree that the bigger companies have gotten lazier, but games are also orders of magnitudes bigger than they used to be, so there are always going to be more bugs, because they are so much more difficult to detect.
Well, there's plenty of indie games that hold themselves to the standard of 'don't release it till it's finished'. It's just the AAA industry that has adopted all kinds of slimy business practices.
Complete? Game is raw af. The only playable act for now is 1 and half of second
Been playing it since pre-release, and me and my friends are still finding moments and outcomes we didn't know were possible.
This game is incredible and it deserves all the success it will gain. Other game developers should be worried, THIS is the new standard we should expect as a consumer!
Divinity original sin 2 is the standard. Before that it was Divinity original sin 1. Larian just kills it constantly
Just expect 10 years before each game but other than that great!
If by "new" you mean "the way games used to be" then sure. Okay.
@@KrysUnplugged Which game are you thinking of?
Developers will start making games like this when consumers stop buying the bad games. But gamers love to buy bad games. Diablo Immortal made $500 Million. Seems gamers like bad games.
Starting my second playthrough tonight, this game is a 10/10
Same here. BG3 is the only game made me try 2nd playthrough in 10 years.
Such an interesting, comprehensive review. Thank you. I'm glad that Dan, seemingly, did not force you to finish this review by some unrealistic deadline.
REALLY ONE OF THE BEST reviews to come out of IGN in recent memory. Thanks for taking the time.
Larian Studios not the Hero we deserved, but the Dungeon Master we needed !
I've never played a Baldur's Gate game before but I'm just happy that this game is really well liked and well crafted.
Gonna get this soon, this looks like a masterpiece
The fact that 12 years later new high-budget games are still being compared to Skryim shows just how revolutionary that game was
Also for as much as we all love to clown on Todd/BGS, no game developer has even attempted to create their own elder scrolls style RPG, until Avowed and we don’t know how that will turn out yet
@@TEFFTPATTERNeven Todd Howard hasn’t bothered to try it at that level again. Just keeps reselling slightly different versions of it 😂
Skyrim was so ridiculously repetitive. Also basically Oblivion with better graphics. It was a fun game but revolutionary?
@@shaihuludthemaker well it was at the time.
Skyrim>Baldur Gate fodder
Larian deserves all the praise. Fingers crossed that the PS5 version will perform well.
They made choice truly matter. I'm constantly surprised how events in one act can lead into casual conversation during a romance cut an act later. It feels so natural
Its actually so amazing, my friend is doing his own play through and then doing one with me and he’s getting a completely different experience and dialogue. Its so interesting and shows your actions really do change the story.
Not sure how we could ever ask for more from a video game. Absolutely insane.
Have it not be turn based.
@@MrSoloDolo20100 congrats, you missed the point
Well you could ask for them to clean the bugs out and improve stability.
It could use a battle royale tbh
@@MrSoloDolo20100 would give witcher 3 vibes
The comparison with DA:O is what really got me. Looking forward to playing BG3
It’s like people forgot about Divinity Original Sin 2. That game had some unbelievable openness in its story and gameplay.
Divinity original sin 2 on release was like a Bethesda game, buggy mess and often unable to finish because of bugs. Now, it is great. And BG 3 on release is great, that's a big difference between Divinity original sin 2 and BG 3. So people didn't forget about Divinity, they just played it when it was released and because of it, it's written in gaming history as an average game even though, now it is in a state of masterpiece.
@@Frantisek_Bobisud you… you realize that this game has been in early access’s for 3+ years right? Released in the exact same state as DOS2 was. Educate before you say anything
@@Cheesefist You realize that divinity original sin 2 was also in early access for one year? educate before you say anything.
@@Cheesefist Early access is early access. It is not a finished product. Many people do not play with Early access titles, because they want to experience the finished product, but they do buy the game when it comes out of Early access, and that is the state they judge the game.
Damn this year is busted. RE4 remake, deadspace remake, hi-firush, street fighter 6, tears of the kingdom, amnesia the bunker, baldur's gate 3, blasphemous 2, armored core 6, mortal Kombat 1, double dragon, spider man 2. Man such a crazy variety of games and all are absolutely breathtaking.
Starfield and Hogwarts Legacy?
One of the best years in gaming memory.
You really gonna ignore Bomb rush Cyberfunk and the new Mario game

Surely game a GOTY award will fall short of the accolades this game desserves. In awe of this game and the path tjat it takes you on.
Let's see, my gaming group meets once a week and plays for 2 hours. 52 weeks in a year. This should take us a little over a year to play. Brings new meaning to game of the year.

@BH-bd5enfax, everyone is wanking this game for a 10/10 and funny enough game of the decade apparently
Loving it!! Brilliant game, but sad that many reviewers aren’t crediting Larian’s work on the DOS games enough. DOS2 was extraordinary and influenced so many aspects of BG3! Right, now that’s off my chest, time to spend another 24 hours in the Wilderness lol.
if it wasnt for dos2 they would not have gotten the greenlight for baldurs gate, they had tried before and were told no
@@christiansanchez7448 That’s right yeah!
I've been playing with my buddy and we've been thoroughly enjoying it. Great pure fantasy adventure with tactical turn based strategy
250 hours between EA and 1.0 on my second campaign now after launch. Not even close to burnt out. Absolute masterpiece.
These game developers literally rolled the dice on this and got a Natural 20. Super happy for them!
Bro I'm not even into turn based RPG at all but this one is fantastic. Legit one of the best games I've played in recent years.
Larian needs to make kotor 3.
That would be a dream come true
Swtor exists which means kotor 3 will never happen unfortunately. According to the devs, it already happened in swtor, along with kotor 4, 5, 6 etc.
Dios te oiga 😢
Lucas Arts would probably let them do it. Lucas Arts likes to pretend KoTor2 doesn't exist because it's not "star wars-y" enough. They want something that's more safe, more generic, and not as experimental.
Or vampire bloodlines 2
just finished... I'm sad. so I'm doing a 2nd playthrough. I'm no longer sad
Literally 97 hours in, BARELY stepped into act 2
What a game
Its boring af. Kingdom of amalur is way better

Act 3 is pretty bad so you are wrong.
@@sobsag Yeah, Larian pulled the same thing with DOS2, rushed ending missing content. They cut half the content from Act 3 and all the ending cinematics. It's 5/6ths of a game currently. There's a great thread on the BaldursGate3 subreddit summarizing Act 3 content that was being advertised just weeks before launch that's not in the game.
