🤔 NEW HERE? 🤔
Hi! My name is Christopher Odd and I’ve been playing video games on the internet for a few years. I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Dragon Age, etc). Of course, I am always looking for great indie games too!

As far as the wheelchair goes: I'd imagine it's pretty similar to the reason a lot of less-mobile people who *can* walk will also use wheelchairs. Walking may be possible for them (or floating, in Mindfire's case), but it still takes a lot more effort (or even discomfort) than it would for most people, so having a wheelchair is an important option. Other times, it's too hard to walk (or float) and *also* do a second energy- or concentration-intensive task, so having a wheelchair becomes a necessity then too. It's actually a pretty thoughtful touch on the dev's part - not just handwaving it with "well he can float, so he never needs the chair", and actually keeping it around as part of his new home.
speaking from experience this is true
Even daredevil still uses a stick. It's about the path of least resistance and making their opponents underestimate them
I also imagine it's probably a source of identity for him to a degree. There's a whole movement with physically disabled people as there is with a lot of marginalized people/communities based around coming to grips with and being proud of your identity. There's an amputee influencer I follow who is part of one such community. IIRC theirs is called "cripplepunk".
@@jackcoleman1784 I actually find this kind of thinking counter productive. My wheelchair has nothing to do with my identity. No more than a pair of glasses would on someone with poor eyesight, but that is just me.
@@davidritchie6950 I mean to each their own right? True story I actually know people that have worn glasses so long they don't feel comfortable without them. I seriously know someone that has had corrective surgery and they still wear lensless/fake lens glasses. They've allowed it to or it simply just has become a part of their identity. Now it obviously has to be said that a person wearing glasses doesn't face the same stigma as a visibly disabled person which I would assume as someone that isn't visibly disabled is probably a big factor in terms of the difference.
I love Doctrine in the cutscene, the "rubbing his face in exasperation" move looked more like he was smacking himself in the face, like hard. Hilarious.
I was not anticipating a stealth mission. This game is ambitious, and quite clean.
I am getting Chimera Squad vibes from this game. Which I definitely don't hate.
It also seems a bit more well thought out and has the advantage of creating a world instead of trying to incorporate something new into it
Odd "Is that a cat in the music?" Yes, for the two "kitties" about to start fighting.
19:03 only me getting Billy Butcher and Homelander vibes out of this?
Yeah, totally get what you mean, the Billy Butcher vibes were real already. Now they're just confirmed, hahaha.
Yes, I the other guy definitely feels like a slightly good...er Homelander.
@@kamen42 At the very least he doesn't seem quite the narcisistic ticking time bomb, lol! 🤣
I think he needs the chair because he can't just go around flying all day. That might...stick out.
The not crystalizing first turn was a big whiff. He is only worthwhile as a tank if he has his armor up.
Holy moly I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that....Im like he's a tank...why didn't he crystallize😅😮
So jealous! So glad I have you to play games that I can't afford for me!
14:09 I'm really glad the guy doesn't notice the laptop's gone.
We are all complicated indeed!!!! I'll need to keep watching the second part later, for now simply want to say thanks for the awesome content, Odd!!! 😁
The boxing ring is the biggest enemy in that mission. Thanks for the video.
More Capes!? Why thank you very much Mr Odd!!
I'm thinking the "all in one bonus" may need you to really do all the optionals in one attempt, sometimes you may be able to end up completing each of them separately with the simulations but not getting the star because you don't do all at once
So did you miss the part where he figures that out for himself or did you pause the video before that happened to type this? 18:30
@@donovanfaust3227 I mean he figures out the part that it's getting all the other optional objectives to get it, yeah, that's obvious anyway imo. But my point was more about how as far as I remember, if he does figure out this scenario where you can do them all but not get the "all in one" star, he doesn't explicitly state it and I thought of it and wanted to share it.
also we might be getting simulation in tomorrow's episode so gonna be interesting to see if there's gonna be anything special about it, at least dialogue-wise, or if it's going to be pure replay of a previous mission
Cruxus: getting a vibe of Superman in Moore's "The Dark Knight Returns".
Frank Miller, but yeah, I get a bit of that as well. Seems fitting for the world the game has set up.
Awesome game, I can't wait to check it out for myself. Great video as always, Odd
I wonder if in that mission it was possible to target the speedster to attack her like Doctrine said and trigger a different cutscene where you recruit her right there instead of later.
Stealth missions, that is awesome! Oh I can't wait to play this for myself :)
I like this game and I like you playing it, if you're gonna make it a series I'm gonna watch it 👀! great work as usual 👍
i am viciously hungover to the point where panic is setting in. this is just what i needed to cool off and take my mind off it, thank u boss
I love the process of learning that comes with each game while getting accostumed to it!!! 🙌
Fantastic game. Really onboard for this playthrough. Probably the most interested I've been in a playthrough since binging Showgunners and Lamplighters League back to back.
It's not that complicated. See Odd video, watch Odd video.
Like Odd video, comment on Odd video.
Share Odd video, more people love Odd!
27:05 the chinese is pretty much what she says directly after, "what the f- do you think you're looking at" (but rudely)
Midnight Suns without the dating sim stuff? They don't get licensed heroes, but still seems an upgrade 👍
After watching you play this, I have wishlisted it. I plan to buy it when it comes out. This game is really, really good. Too bad you're just up to two parts on this series. Looking for part #3.
If anyone wants to play something similar between now and the launch of Capes, there's always Sentinels of freedom.
Episode 2. Still looks a great game! Cant wait to see the next episode!
Love this new play through, xcom style combat with a great and flushed out hero backdrop. Good times await
Amazing stuff Chris!! Can’t wait to see more! How’re you liking the game so far? Also have you ever see The Boys, this gives my mad The Boys vibes and I may have to try this out!
The guy just staring at the empty table where the laptop was before and not raising the alarm just... doesn't seem right.
The real reason for that is probably that's how it needs to be for the mission. But in my head canon, it's because those goons are being mind controlled. It's a world where superpowered people exist, so mind control is possible, and they were moving around like robots. The controller either didn't think to check if the laptop went missing, or just couldn't include those instructions into the programming. I'd go with the latter option personally, because it would also explain why there was no reaction when goons just started to "disappear".
14:06 if David Beckham played batman
Thanks for the vid
Loving it.
Just problems with sound during dialogues (different volumes on music and speech...)
All this Game needs is a good New Game+ and I can see me playing it for a while
NB// THAT'S NEAT! SMFH, KMT!
I think the fourth slot is mostly so that if a challenge is too hard, you can go back in simulator mode with a fourth character and 100% the mission.
Is this going to be a full game playthrough or is there going to be a cutoff point in the story?
oh ya DEF checkin ALLLLLL the boxes in this game.
since Baldurs Gate 3 i haven't been excited for a game (i guess that really hasn't been that long) but Capes.... so much nostalgia for City of Heroes... the Artstyle just absolutely hits the right spot! The combat seems a little basic... but that's fine if the story turns out to be good
I actually went back to City of Heroes myself after seeing the first episode. There's a licensed fanserver now - Homecoming.
What's basic about the combat? Is it D&D levels of depth like Baldurs Gate 3? I guess not but I wouldn't call this a little basic based on all the mechanics going on.
@@donovanfaust3227 it's VERY basic compared to (what it's inspired by) XCOM... has nothing to do with DND
I think Doctrine's voice actor is the same who did the voice on Jagged Alliance Back in action tutorial.... Was trying to find where I've heard this voice before....
Odd, thanks for previewing this title. I was all on board with getting this game until the flavor cut scene for the first mission you did today. Thank you for saving me my hard earned cash. Keep up the good work sir.
Im getting serious Batman and Superman vibes from Doctrine and Cruxus, respectively.
This feels A LOT like Fights in Tight Spaces to me, rather than than XCOM.
How exactly? Fights in Tight spaces has a whole other rogue-like deck building aspect whereas this game has a leveling system and a story with a campaign. Not saying you're wrong but certainly not what came to my mind seeing this.
@@donovanfaust3227 More the vibe and puzzle aspect of the fights. It feels like a deck building game to me somehow, maybe the card-like buttons-as-moves combined with the very tight puzzle-like maps.
The cut-scene animations remind me of Chimera.
fact you getting to play the full game 1 month before the game is out, makes so I don't have to buy it as even if I want to play it, I already know the story and all missions so yeah maybe the give you a copy too early. Looks good had it on my wishlist on steam and has been removed as I no longer need to play it.
You could probably take out two people with that utimate depending on the total HP.
we're less complicated than you think.
Quick question to any kids doing CE / GCSE english. (whatever that is in states - pre college) The word 'Naive' is the 'e' on the end changing the 'ai' bit of the word so goes from say 'train' that focuses on the 'a'; to focusing on the 'i' instead?
Cruxus name is quite Similar to a Galdiator called Crixus in the (once popular) TV Show "Spartacus - Blood and Sand"
Now were the parentheses necessary?
So, the company goons shop at the same place as EXALT? Do they have a henchmen discount there?
I think it's a siren
Hi Odd, did you play Clockwork Revolution anywhere? If not, do you have any plan to play?
it doesn't even have a release date yet
I just realized who Doc's voice reminds me of. Is it Vesemir?
Still not sold on the animation style, but I did like the gameplay in this episode.
Urg Odd is frustratingly bad at the stealth movement. One of the first things "oh its cool the teleport spin can be used as a 3rd teleport"
Moments later "no i cant reach that spot i dont have the move"
I have pre ordered this after watching and its not for 40days. dilemma of do I watch or wait to play but its so many days away not to watch what do I do???
The easy way or the hard way. 🤔Are we the baddies 😮
Anyone notice Doctrine's buttons are on the wrong side in the CGI animation?
In the stealth mission, you don't need to backstab. You get +1 damage for them being unaware, so teleport spin for two, they become alerted, then strike for one. (You can get five if you can get an unaware backstab and a regular backstab).
he wanted the undetected bonus objective
I think you only become "Detected" if you let an alerted enemy survive to the end to the current turn.
I'm gonna take a guess and think that the left over guns on the ground will help out a Punisher style super hero. I wonder what kind of characters they have available. Any idea how many heroes anyone?
I think he attack twice because of opportune attack
No, the other guy had it too and didn't attack twice. Either a bug or a missing UI element indicating that he attacks twice.
@@andrewcash7156 I'm thinking everyone can do two actions but can only do each action once just like the heroes. The baton seems to give two total actions. Just like how crashdamage in the first episode could punch and then pick up rock.
@@grimdagoblinmain you're right, but their actions include moving.
The game is centered on team ups, but Odd doesnt like keeping his people in range...
Man the game release is 3 weeks away. This k8nda kills me. This game is like right up my alley since I love xcom like games.
OK,as if the game concept and design weren't compelling enough, the dialog is great comic book stuff.
A problem is that the weaker members have 2 health which means they each can draw one attack because so far I have not seen a critical hit happen.
Facet does have that ability to negate damage on anyone for one attack. That should be handy when you need one of the more vulnerable heroes to tank an attack. Now they just need to finish the team with a healer.
I love Odd, but it's so painful to watch such easy plays making a mission have to be replayed because of overthinking. This was not a hard fight, by ANY means, yet overthinking for no reason made it a replay. Gonna be a LONG series. XD
Avril Lavigne - Complicated
Does anyone else hear the Team America theme song?
"I'm Batman" ;..;
Hmm, I hope this is more tactical than puzzley going forward. Not a big fan of one KO = game over. Guess we'll see!
Eh. I'm okay with a one character stealth mission.
In the others, that's the Hardcore option that Odd put in the first mission. There's two lesser difficulties (a casual and a 'standard').
One KO = game over is just the difficulty setting he's on, which he mentioned in the video as well as at the beginning of the first episode in this series he's doing. I'm not sure why you think that feature is baked into the game or what makes this is more of a puzzle game than a tactical one.
This story is one you just can't think about, isn't it?
It just doesn't make any sort of sense. Like... them saying "We want to get the feds involved" after there is video evidence of literal mass extrajudicial killings and massive sets of organized kidnappings and so on and so forth. It isn't a secret, they are doing this in broad daylight. This is just the story beat that broke it for me. It feels like the entire concept of the story doesn't make any sense. I think "They took over the country" or "They took over the world" would've made much more sense. As is, it feels more like a misunderstanding of how politics works and about law enforcement, yet trying to critique it. For me, that just reeks of bad storytelling.
For the devs: I know this is your first game and I don't want to be too critical, however, if you want to build your game around a message and a critique of some aspect of society, that is fine. That is good. However, first understand the aspect of society. Don't just go off of the memes and stereotypes. While most people will think of mostly memes and stereotypes for that aspect of society, most are also aware of a few key facts which are extremely varied person to person. So, if you want most people to feel like the critique is at least partially valid, understand the truth behind the critique. That means not just understanding it better than the average person, but understanding it about 80% of the way. The last 20% will be stuff pointed out by experts, but most aren't experts.
Additionally, think out the consequences of your story beats. Like, if super villains take over a city, why don't the Feds instantly come and shut it down? Why are they letting "The Company" have overt control over everything? That undermines the authority of the Federal and State governments. Politics 101 is maintain your right to authority. But considering what the next step of how people would react, why they would do that, and have all relevant players be dynamic actors.
If you want inspiration for how politics cause massive issues, look at Ruby Ridge and Waco. Internal politics of various alphabet agencies and government officials resulted in needless loss of life. Look at 1930s Chicago where mobsters ran everything, but from the shadows as to not undermine the authority of people they could not compete with. Look at the Yakuza, who get some degree of support from the public due to doing good things for them. Also understand that usually, with many things, each individual step is often logical and reasonable, but the summation of all steps is not.
Or maybe this just isn't my type of story. Sorry for the essay, I am just very passionate about writing and worldbuilding. This comes off to me as very amateurish on both counts.
i am not big on the animation style, the idea is great and the game play looks fun
Yeah the 2d looks good and the in mission models fine but the weird animated 2d/3d inbetween ones are jarring
❤❤❤😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉
Ughhhh ... X-COM video drought ... I'm suffering ... !! lmao Odd ... Hellppppppp ... HELPpppppppppp Dx lmao
Are these cut scenes skippable?
Yo theres lesbians in this?! Sold!
I suspect that if the speedster got knocked out you would have recruited her, after you took out the goons of course
Protecting her was a primary objective, if she went down it would be an immediate mission failure.
Game looks great. Just hope SBI isn’t anywhere near it.
RIP Facet
Still wonder if you can redo missions and grind or if there is repeatable missions and stuff. Don't like the strictly linear turn based games at all.
Did you miss the simulator section of the mission select screen? If that's not for replaying missions and rewatching cutscenes idk what is. 25:38 right under the Patrol section.
@@donovanfaust3227 that doesnt mean you can get more xp/sp from it. that still could very much be locked in.
I’m a woman and I confirm: we’re complicated 😂
What’s the price 😂
Why do I feel like the aoe taunt team up is constantly forgotten?
I want to watch but at the same time I do t want to watch
This game has D.E.I all over it welcome to 2024, no thanks.
The characters look and act like Sims from 2009. The voice work is solid, and the writing, albeit cheesy as hell, is passable. If they could fix the character animations/design I'd totally be into this game. The actual avatar compared to their illustrated version are just off. Cruxus for example, my goodness, he looks nothing like his avatar!
"I just have to be faster than *you*" only works once, girlie. What happens the time after that? Or the time after *that*?
ROFL.. Lets play social justice BINGO.
blop
the voice acting is rather stiff don't you tihnk?
Why did the devs had to force THE MESSAGE down our throats again? Its a good game, no need for extra woke BS.
Is this one of those woke games?
It's very edgy, there's a bunch of people with colored hair, The banter isn't that great, and it's very boring! (And that's not OP's fault, he's doing his best).
getting a woke vibe with this game which is turning me off
Finally! A game that fit for Odd. Some of the games youve been playing are not worthy of you. Hate this is made by Aussies tho
All the games he plays are "worthy" of him. He doesn't play games he doesn't like. Also what is wrong with Australians?
@@grimdagoblinmain the other games are fun for sure but some of them don't seem like Odd can play them as much as he played XCOM2.
The only thing wrong with Aussies are their accents. Just my personal preference.
Okay weirdo
@@donovanfaust3227 lmao you mad
