  • Double leg takedown. How to do it fast when you're wrestling or fighting. Double leg is quite popular in MMA. This move used frequently in sambo too, but lately the frequency of use is slower.

It's because it's illegal in judo and many sambists cross compete in judo and slowly this skill disappears. Our gym in Netishin keeps that tradition alive. Combat sambo, hand to hand combat, MMA are sports we often compete in and we know how to apply it in striking predicament. I'll share main secrets and common situations it could be done.

Sambo is a versatile sport because it has large amount of techniques in standing position as well as on the ground. Why can't you throw an opponent who's equal or stronger opponent? There are two main reasons. First - you're setting up and doing the throw wrong, and the second you're predictable and everyone knows your moves. In both cases your technique is flawed and something has to be changed. All progressive MMA fighters are incorporating sambo submissions. It's easily explainable due to limited time on the ground ( 2-5 seconds to catch and another minute to complete ). Sambists research the fastest and most effective ways to finish for years. Why does everyone want to finish fast? It's an opportunity to finish in style and preserve your energy. I know the taste of quick finishes like no other. 25 years in sambo, 13 World Championships in which i earned 2 golds, 4 silvers, 1 bronze and most importantly 90% of my victories happened before regulation time expired. I spent 20000 hours

This really helped me as I was always under the impression that you have to kneel low with your lead leg (that goes between the legs) - I just can't do that, not sure if it's a balance or mobility thing but this method I could do all day

Same here it doesn't make sense to do that on concrete either. If you were trained from young as wrestler it would be effective but for BJJ guys this is way better. Plus, George St Pierre doesn't usually put his leg down and he is GOAT

@@tango12341234 its simply because in wrestling ppl stand lot deeper and more crouched so you need to drop on your knee
In mma you don’t because ppl are more upright

@@MrJeppo96 That's actually why I looked at this video. .. I did wrestling in high school then jc. By then i was also doing GJJ and judo. I started to disdain anything that had me going to my knees. Not good idea for longevity of training or self-defense. ..... There was a D1 wrestler with messed up knees - that suggested looking into the 'high double' and 'high single' ..... But basically, you nailed it- that wrestling crouch necessitates a lower level change and deeper penetration step.

Nice video Ivan, at 4:30 in the video to take side control after the takedown, are you able to fall with him and use your shoulder to break your fall into his stomach? Or do you find you are still standing after the throw naturally and need to follow him down after like in the video?
