Fuel Delivery Showdown : The Advantages of Mechanical Fuel Pumps over Electric Fuel Pumps PT1

  • Newly bought project needs a little help so we start out by removing some things added by previous owners that just dont need to be there
    Electric fuel pumps have there place in the world just not in mine. If I have one it will be under the back of a car not under the hood. The mechanical one worked just fine for decades so I have no issue installing them on everything
    Hope you learned something and enjoyed watching
    And If learned anything its If it doesn't need it why have it

    Feel like when I finally get the chance to restore something old, a Galaxie will be something I’ll be looking for.

      Additional considerations:
      1960's Ford Fairlane
      1970 Ford Torino
      1970 Ford Ranchero
      But let me be frank with you: The best old car is the old car that you have, not the one you want.

    Totally agree, if you don’t need electric fuel pump why bother. Stay safe see you on the next one. 👍😎✌️

    If OEM worked for so many years....use it. Electric pumps have their place, but not in this one. Gonna look so much neater when you can get the solid lines installed again. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.

    I installed an electric fuel pump on a 65 Mustang a long time ago to help with vapor lock. I installed it just in front of the gas tank on the frame rail so gravity feed was a major help. It's so cool hearing the tick tick tick.

    Awesome video brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. I myself prefer a mechanical fuel pump. Set one of my older cars on fire with an electric fuel pump. Luckily just had to replace a few wires. Hope you have an incredible day.

    I just got my galaxy running after sitting for 4years. I’m ashamed of myself for letting it set so long. Having issues with the brakes,it’s why it’s sat all these years. But new battery clean the points she came to life . I enjoyed these type of videos. Jon

    I noticed that has a duel cylinder brakes. It's either a late 67 or someone has changed it over. Dual master cylinder didn't start until the 68 run.
    Love that car. Would so love to have it!

    Your passenger inner fender makes me jealous. I have a 68 2 door, and it takes the 67 to 69 body parts. I badly need to replace the inner fender. That 390 is strong and it's a stock air condition car, no knee knockers.

    I've never understood why people put electric fuel pumps on stock classics. A new mechanical pump is cheaper, easier to install & runs better. I'm not a fan of adding potential rust holes to an old Detroit steel fender apron either. 👍

    Theres a white 2 door galaxy up the road from me thats been rotting worse and worse since I was born
    It must have been bute back in its day but its rusted to shit and its a gonner at this point
    I managed to see one at a car show like yours but cream
    Man it was a buetiful car
    I'm a datsun guy but I'm into alot of old cars like that
    In fact I've seen MANY classic cars at shows and abandoned in almost all American brands models and year models

    Just curious....is there an advantage to having a mechanical pump over an electric one or just more personal preference? Thanks!

    • @DudesWithWrenches
      @DudesWithWrenches  2 роки тому +1

      I have non-issue with electric pumps if there installed correctly 99% of the time I find them butchered in and Mechanical to me is just simpler so personal preference but I do run electric pumps on a couple of my go fast cars thanks for commenting 👍

    Don’t electric fuel pumps do better when mounted near the tank to push fuel up to the carb?

    • @DudesWithWrenches
      @DudesWithWrenches  2 роки тому +1

      Exactly well depending on the pump brand and model but I prefer them to be away from the motor for safety reasons

    Electric for race car normal for everything other then a real serios race car. Bc you can prestart the pump and that can be good.
    This is just my opinion dont kill me for it.
