  • Toyota 22R with a Weber carburetor troubleshooting. The engine does not run consistent, some time’s backfiring, sputtering, sometimes has power and sometimes not, and sometimes it just dies while driving. Follow the link below to understand what I’m trying to attempt to mix my problems.

    Mine runs like crap. Idels up high when you crank it & dies when you come to a stop. I really don't think my rebuilt Aisan carb is bad but I went ahead & purchased a webber to install. It gets plenty of fuel. I hope the webber fixes my problem but like I said the original was rebuilt a few years ago but I haven't drove it much so I guess it could have gone bad. I didn't buy the regulator, hopefully I won't need it.

    I run the exact same fuel pump in the exact same location on my 22r. My older pump gives more than one psi. It was an improvement to the mechanical. The mechanical provides way to much pressure. Those electrical connectors tend to fall off while driving. I use a zip tie to keep them in place. I mount the regulator in between the pump and carb. The only problem I have with this setup is the fuel line running dry while the engine is off. I have to run the pump for a while to get fuel in the lines before it will start. I don't know if running a check valve is a solution. Ideally the pump is supposed to be mounted below the tank on the frame rail if I remember correctly. Good job!

    And you definitely want to run a return line because once summer hits you’ll be dealing with a bunch of heat soaking and right now you’re technically running what’s called a dead head system. Just get the filter with the return and you’ll be good to go. Real easy cheap and clean modification I can send you pictures of mine if you need any ideas

      @@alexmacias1515 also as I was re-watching your video you were talking about how running a regulator with your Carter fuel pump couldn’t hurt but if you go back and you re-read the article that you put in the description it talks about how regulators cause flow problems... I have to run a regulator because the fuel pump I’m using puts out too much so it’s required for me to use a regulator but you should do away with yours because you’re running the proper pump

    How loud is the pump? I have a 2300 sniper efi setup on my 22r and the electric pump the kit came with is intolerable so, I'm looking at alternative options.

    • @thelowbudgetguy

      Perhaps a stock efi pickup pump could work ?

    • @morewaterslides
      @morewaterslides 6 місяців тому

      @@thelowbudgetguy That sounds ideal but I'm not too keen on cutting into the original gas tank or replacing it. I did however find out that Walboro fuel pumps are pretty quiet and come with a sleeve to reduce the noise. You can buy the sleeve separately so I think I'll try that first since it's an easy enough mod.

    I have an 88 Cheyenne. The previous owner put a 4 barrel carb on it instead of the fuel injection.
    He ran the fuel line from the tank to the mechanical pump on the older used engine that he installed. The electric pump pushes fuel to the mechanical pump on the side of the block.
    My question is; is this ok to do or will it cause problems?

    You need to return back to the fuel tank. And a shut off switch in case of a fire you can shut it off or it will burn like a torch.

    How to fix. Step 1 check all gas lines for leaks and check gas tank for leaks. After fond and fixed thim and made sure fuel system builds pressure. Step 3 check ignition wires and spark plugs are good. Step 4 inspect carb check the flot make sure theres no vacuum leaks and no trash in fuel bowl. Get air and fuel mixture screw or screws if running a 38/38.

    Hey just replace your Toyota fuel filter with a fuel filter that also has a return they cost like 10 bucks at any of the usual scumbag car parts stores and then run your return line off of that... it’s part number “Wix Filter 33040” I just switched over to a electric fuel pump because I’m running a 20r head so I had to do the same thing

      I know, everyone says that, but it’s much easier to mount where I put it and gives me the psi I need exactly. Sometimes I know the rules but don’t play by them, makes life more interesting, if I ever have an issue though I’m not above changing it

      You should be able to open full throttle on carberator let slap shut in a spit second. After slaps back engine should amidiatly die back down with no lag spit and sputter and have a smooth idea after. Leave truck running and do this about 5 times on a 30min spand and if engine never dies and has a smooth idea after ever time u jack the throttle open and close even after just holding throttle open at a low rpm and then opening and closing quikly. If engine never dies and stays runner at a smooth ideal below 900rpm or at 900rpm or in the area. Than go on test drive. Any other ? Just ask
