    When I was younger, I had a colony of ants in my fish's old tank. I remember always looking at them and making an ant club with my friends. Later I made another habitat for ants out of food containers and straws. I also caught a queen this week with my dad(who loves ants now because of you) and I'm looking forward to raising this new colony. I think that ants make the best pet because they are so small, but there tunnels, hard working attitude, and overall diversity makes it so fulfilling owning a colony. Also #antloveforever

      My son and I have had a difficult time with bonding.He has Aspergers so It was like we could not find common ground. However sense we have started with keeping ants, it has brought us closer and has helped us to learn more about each other and really start to bond. Ants are the reason I was able to really get the bond I always wanted with my son. I know it sounds cheesy but the bonding with family is why I think ants make for the best pets :)

    I have a very helpful animal companion in my room. It's a spider. She is not confined to a cage, and she does trap insects which wander into my house and helps keep the numbers down. I quite enjoy it when she chooses to come out from behind the curtain. She takes care of herself, and me, and I don't have to come up with things to feed her. She catches roaches, wasps, mosquitoes flies and other insects which find their way into my house. Although she is not a pet, I'm glad to have her there. No, she's not one of the varieties harmful to humans, unless you happen to be allergic. If you find this situation cringe-worthy, well you're not alone. I like these ant videos, and find them very educational. Where I live, we have fire ants. I once had to demonstrate to my mom how dangerous they are, as she was from Michigan, where there are no dangerous ants. She was rather shocked at how aggressive they are. Had I sufficient room, I would not mind having an ant colony. I quite enjoy watching them. As it is, these videos stand in very well for my fascination with them. Keep up the good work.
    If you feed your ants meal worms, it is easy to set up a breeding colony of those, so you can have a constant supply without having to go to the pet store to buy more, unless you have the misfortune of having roaches invade the colony and eating all the food, and the meal worms into the bargain, as happened with me when I was raising them to feed my mud-skipper (a type of fish).
    When it comes to dogs, I just don't have the temperament for that. I prefer cats. It's not that I dislike dogs. I just don't want one. As for animals I have associated with are, garter snakes, milk snakes, the Virginia Opossum, the Brazilian Mouse Possum, Betta's Ghost Shrimp, Crayfish, Red Crabs, Chinchillas, Chickens, Turkeys, Ducks, Geese, Mice, Rats, Squirrels, Chipmunks, and Turtles. Of all of these, the Virginia Opossum was never a pet, but an occasional visitor in my home, and I would feed it whenever it came by. One last thing here, enjoy the animals around you.

      Daniel Gable One spider? I have many spidersisters and spiderbros freely wandering in my room, they keep hanging in corners, eating flies and stuff and I kinda like it, so I do not try to bother them much. Sadly, cat likes to hunt and eat them, but she likes to hunt and eat everything, so there's that. I even have one spiderbro hidden at my work behind my computer, crazy little fellow.

    A few days ago, I was in my room and I felt something crawling on my arm. Now with my upbringing and being in Texas, something crawls on you, you generally kill it and ask questions later which I institutionally did just that before looking and seeing it was an queen ant. That was my sign for me to start an ant colony and I blew it.

    My favorite reason to keep ants is how much you learn about them (and biology like you said) in the process.

  • @johnywest2427
    @johnywest2427 7 років тому +33

    Ants are the best pets because of how much you learn and are amazed by them daily. Not one day has gone by where I haven't seen my colonies do something increddible
    from seeing the queen lay eggs and start a colony from scratch too seeing them completely consume a giant incest without leaving even a scrap to go to waist. Ants are so complex and interesting that its impossible to get bored with them. In conclusion ants are the BEST pet because of their tendency to never leave you not completely amazed. Ant love for ever. 🐜

    Ants make great pets not only personally, but educationally. The way you described their cultural evolution was perfect! A miniature example of society. That's why I think they'd make amazing class pets, better than any other class pet, for science or history class. They remind me of that twilight zone episode with the mini people! Best pet ever.

  • @Blufall

    I think my favourite part about antkeeping (and I don't even have my own colony YET) is that they are very different from normal pets. They don't act like an individual like a dog or cat but much more like a superorganism.
    And this is why ants would be the perfect pet for me.

    Antes make the best pets because you literally observe a whole world developing right before you're eyes, even since I was a little child I was amazed by that. I used to collect random harvester ants (Pogonomyrmex) in small setups as a 10-ish year old kid, I loved watching them explore and dig holes, working in community without any problems, after some days I released em near their nest again, I never kept em for long because I though the would be sad, haha, glad I did that.
    As such, this wonderful pet makes the best entertainment, not such interaction like a dog or cat, but a wonderful sight of a world you can control and see develop. Truly, Ant love forever!

    AC Question Answer:
    I think they're really great pets because of the way they teaches us good things like strong teamwork, loyalty and dedication, They won't even hesitate to lose their lives to defend their own colony and the greatest of all is, with thousands of ants in a colony, they never fight with their own fellow comrades and therefore ressembles a great form of socialism!

    My answer for the AC Question of the week: my favourite reason as to why ants are the best pets is that they teach us how to be successful inhabitants of our world and how delicate nature's balance is.

  • @Anthropophagi5
    @Anthropophagi5 7 років тому

    My own reason they're my favorite pets is because they keep surprising me. They're so much fun to watch and they work together to do things so quickly it baffles my mind to try to imagine the same task on a human scale being accomplished in anywhere near the same time frame.

    I love your videos^^. I myself keep wood lice. They're in the yard too and have different species. They are super exiting to watch. They are super active and little clowns that will do a lot of silly things. I have my own big lice tank and it's so much fun to watch them, no costs, almost no odour. I love insects!

      a long time ago when Vikings ruled the sea
      they discovered two big islands
      then for some reason they named the very hot and warm island Iceland
      the Vikings did this to confuse foes
      the same is with Greenland being very cold
      I hope this clears things up

      John Gallagher Gibbons That's what I'm saying. it's just he says there is no ants on Iceland. Iceland is hot so I think he means there is no ants on Greenland which is cold. BTW they named Greenland Greenland to make more people move there because Iceland was overpopulated.

    the best part of keeping ants is that they don't need to go to the vet, which contributes to the low cost, and watching a pet getting injected is quite sad as they seem like they're in pain but you don't have to watch your ants go through pain like that!! :)

    The best part of keeping ants is that you won't get upset and cry and everything when you releash them back into the wild. I mean that if you have a dog for a pet one day it will die and you will get really upset, but ants are a different thing. You don't get to know every single ant so you won't have a special relatioship with it so it will be easier to say goodbuy.

    My favorite reason for keeping ants is well everything. They are low cost/maintenance, fun to watch and learn from. They are Clean, smart, clever. They can take on any Challenge/obstacle in their way. In my opinion in most ways they are better than people. And There are still so many species to discover.

    AC Question of the Week: What is your favourite reason why ants are the best pets, either mentioned in this video or on your own? First of all, Ant-keeping is full of surprises. You never know what could happen to your colony, and mishaps that could occur. An example AntsCanada has experienced is the mite infestation with the Golden Empire, or the Cockroach birth within the Fire Nation's own Formicarium! Also, there is so much with in the ant world yet to be discovered. Second, watching your ants grow up, not as each individual, but as a colony. I currently haven't had the joy to experience my own full colony, but I have two live queen ants that have laid eggs. This was very exciting for me, and the next step is watching the brood develop and the first nanitics arrive! I'm sure many people have experienced this feeling when queens actually lay eggs and not die... (R.I.P Queens 1-4) A Third reason is relaxation... sometimes I would stop and stare at wild colonies doing their work when I am sad, angry, or bored. Watching a colony operate as one really takes me away from all the drama and news happening throughout the world, and we can only hope that one day humans can operate in peace like a colony. My personal favorite spot to watch ants is by a tree, where Camponotus ants are constantly excavating chambers and growing their colony. I have watched this colony for nearly a year, and seeing it grow is amazing. Fourthly, watching AntsCanada and his keeping of ants builds up my respect and love for nature, specifically ants. I used to be annoyed and disgusted when it came to ants, until I found AntsCanada. AntsCanada totally changed my perspective on the 6-legged wonders. Ants have also brought together a family of ant-loving and nice people in the AntsCanada "clan". Lastly, each ant species is unique. Watching ant videos wants to make me go out and find each species shown! Ants are so diverse and have been around for so long, it is amazing also to think that the ant in my test tube is a descendant from the ant in my other hand, stuck in amber, millions of years ago! Ants are fascinating, and an amazing pet to keep. AntsCanada is amazing for showing people like me ants and their amazing ways, and convinced many of us to take care of ants, without regret. Ants are truly the best pets to keep. Ant Love Forever! 🐜

    I love the latter reasons, especially the reason that stated ant colonies raise awareness of things related to biology and conservation. These things are what we really need to keep in the forefront of our heads due to the times we live in. Perhaps I'm biased due to studying environmental biology, but this is my favorite!
