Great video! Some people put the black light and white light together, to catch more ants. It works better if the lamp hangs at a height of one or two meters, or more, so that more wings can see it from a distance and be attracted, and the sheet also has a hanging side.

Hey, awesome video, I found your channel just a few days ago and I've been binging your latest videos. Amazing content, happy to see "another fellow ant youtuber" as you say so just wanted to congratulate the amazing content you put out.
There's a species here in Brazil that looks uncannily similar to these possibly Thief Ant specimens. The alates are *notoriously* attracted to light (any light) and unbelievably numerous. There's a few days every year where the base of every street light is covered in this shifting yellow carpet, and if you forget your windows open, you'll find literally thousands of them inside. 99% males, and you'd be hard pressed to spot the females in the squirming mass, covered by a dozen horn dogs trying to get their slice of heaven before perishing. I once saw a Toad come by one of the posts and gorge for a good couple hours. The thing could barely walk when it decided to leave.
Hello Ender! Nice video - I 've actually never tried to catch Queen ants at night, but I'll make sure to give that blacklight idea a try! Glad I could give you the "final push" to get your discord server up too. ;)
I was wondering, if no cord is really long enough, is it possible to use a blacklight flashlight and then lay it sideways on the table? or would that not work?
Hey!! I bought a blacklight a week after watching this video, and in one day I caught 46 Pheidole Tysoni queens! I didn’t expect to get this result with just a bedsheet and 25$ blacklight. Now I have more queens than I ever thought I would have, especially pheidole (my favourite genus). I think i commented before when it was uploaded, but i cant find it lol.

Ender Ants I will try! Not gonna let any of them die. I had the most queens come from 5-6 AM btw. morning usually works better for me since there aren’t as many moths
If you put a container under the black light and put a layer of olive oil on the rim the queens that break off their wings can’t escape. Thus if you go out an hour or 2 after you put out the light you will have a lot of queens that are easy pickings. I caught 5 using this method

How do you move your ants from your tubs and tubes setups into a larger formicarium (THA fortress, AC hybrid nest, or larger aquarium naturalistic setup, etc.)?
I haven’t yet moved any of my colonies out of these setups, but what I plan to do is put their test tube in the new outworld, and drop in the workers left one by one.

why do they like blacklight? what's with the cotton? Why do they take off their wings?
For some reason bugs are attracted to UB light. Cotton allows air to pass through, cheap to purchase, and ants can’t chew through it. The queens take off their wings because they have no use for it anymore, and it can be a nuisance.
Thanks for the questions and interest!
can you use led strip lights with a certain combination to create the “black light” color? or does it have to be a specific UV creating black light?
