Or in space; imagine that! I always thought that this music should have also been used for an outer-space stage later in the game; I guess the designers didn't think of that, though...until later, and I don't think this song is in Super Mario Galaxy. (SHOULD BE, though, right?)
Played the game with my dad(grandfather) and this was the last song I ever played for him on guitar a few days before he passed. I come back here to hear the master play it. RIP Dee
I'm late to the party, but just thought I'd leave a story here: My Grandfather with whom I was VERY close with got into video games around the time of Nintendo 64. Being a gamer myself this obviously got me very excited as we could share in that. Super Mario 64 was always his favorite game, countless hours and numerous playthroughs we would do together trying to 100% the game, they are my fondest memories. He unfortunately passed a few years ago, but when I listened to this cover for the first time, it took me right back, every memory came rushing back to me and I smiled for DAYS. I come back and listen to this often when I just need to remember life is good. sorry for the long comment but being a musician myself I always love to hear the way my music touches different people (if it does) keep playing your heart out! I can feel that you love to play and that feeling becomes infectious when people listen! Thank you so much for this
I’m 5 years late but listening to this gave me chills and nostalgia flashbacks. Thank you brother you created a beautiful rendition of this piece of my childhood
@@laxstrat Your left hand frets a note, then your right hand index finger touches (but doesn't press down) directly above the fret that is 12 frets above the note the left hand is fretting. Another finger on your right hand (probably ring finger) picks the string. It's the same idea as playing a harmonic at the 12th fret, but if the left hand is holding a note on the third fret, for example, then the harmonic is now three frets up from the 12th fret, and you'll need to use your right hand to access it.
I can't believe anyone would dislike this. Even if you don't enjoy the nostalgic feelings of this this is a beautiful melody that is beautifully played.
Its so beautiful. Brings me back to my childhood. I remember getting this game for Christmas. My first session was 5 hours straight, and my parents had to call me out because they were worried about me lol. But nothing in my life has beaten that moment of playing this game for the first time
Oh my god. Such a masterful performance! Crystal clear sound and spot-on! You instantly transported me back to college when I was endlessly playing this with my friends when it first came out. And at 0:45, I started crying joyful nostalgic tears. Wow! Hard to believe it's been almost 25 years. I'm going to play this again and when I get to Dire Dire Docks, I will think about your cover. Outstanding!
I will start learning this song through your Patreon tabs, so that when my little brother comes back from his worldtrip I can surprise him with a song that symbolizes our youth together
@Ezugo Obuekwe oh pardon my terminology. There isnt any singing and text so I can't call it a song. Quit whining and find something nice to do with your time 🙏
This was just beautiful. Perfectly done. So much nostalgia. Doesn’t just remind me of the game; it reminds me of that time period in my life. Thank you.
I love how you’re almost crying when you say “whatever happened to super Mario 63?” Like there’s a slight tremble in your voice, just adds so much beauty and depth to the meme. It’s as if you put vibrato on your voice, truly an amazing performance and delivery. A true genius would only know how to have such cadence for a punchline. Not only that, but to ask specifically for super Mario 63 rather than super Mario 65, my good sir did an apple fall on your head? Just jaw dropping. Oh yea, and the song is fantastic as well.
The best music, the one Super Mario level that brings you back to that time like 1998-1999, I remember my late grandmother bringing me snacks as an 8-9 yo playing this I miss both her and these times. Thank you Nintendo for helping me create those memories with your wonderful content.
This is an outstanding piece of melancholic and melodious music when played on guitar. It stands alone beautifully even when detached entirely from the game. Brilliant.
It's crazy how much beautiful music there is to be found in video games, and how the music being played outside of when the game it's from is being played is this niche interest, when really the best video game music is as solid and iconic as any mainstream music.
1:48 is officially a contender for one of the most beautiful fucking chords i’ve ever heard in my life. was like a mini orchestra behind him in those bass resonance notes. shits magic man, i’m bein corny but like bravo lmao.
Mario 64 one of the most underrated soundtracks of all-time. For the amount of praise this game has gotten over the years, the music is never talked about enough. Brilliant rendition of the best song on the OST, imo.
I love this song! Every time my brother played the game and would go to that "water world" I enjoyed sitting beside him and listen only to the music 😊 a lovely piece! 👌👍👏
Such great playing! The quality of the playing and feel take your videos up to the best of what you can even find on UA-cam for covers. Also this song feels very Legend of Zelda-esque.
this music in particular always helped me when is difficult to sleep, so i start to sing mentally this beautiful melody, it`s so peaceful, gentle, like i am diving deeper in waters to a safer, comfortable place. Koji Kondo made unforgettable compositions to universe of games.
Marty Moberly Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 both have a handful of other beautiful tracks like this. “Space Junk Galaxy” comes to mind; I highly recommend looking that one up if you haven’t heard it before.
This is a masterpiece! You have a unique talent to make songs so perfect (talent that I do not have) make the castle of Final Fantasy VIII, besides being a challenge would surely be another masterpiece!
Sam I simply love your work. Your arrangements capture the song in a professional fashion. Thanks for this everyone I've shared this with has been really happy to hear it. I can't wait to hear more!
Your tone is so good, so much discipline in your playing. Your use of harmonics is really great. The way they're just peppered in, instead of being used in a show off kind of way is really refreshing. Great pickin my friend!
dire dire docks is probably the most beautiful pop culture song of my child hood nintendo and thje composer behind this was amazing... also your playing was amazing.
This works so well on the ol' classical guitar. Much better than I would have imagined. And I love the little changes you made to make it your own. The tiny little changes to the volume to increase the intensity or chill the mood in just the right places. My only complaint is that you didn't go around for another run and introduce even more little flourishes. Very nice work.
I actually just wanted to comment so that the total number of comments would roll over to 667, but then I decided that I should probably also tell you that you made me smile. Thanks!
Thanks for picking this song dude! Kind of expected the video to be shot underwater but that's cool.
Lmao, you win the internet for today
That is a task for Davie504.
If he did that, he’d have to add the strings
Lmao

You, sir ... have allowed me to reconnect to a feeling I've not felt in 20 years. What a magical performance!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Man.. same. Tears in my eyes. :')
Same although I never got to beat the game 😢
Ah man you gotta go back and beat it that game is Amazing
naota3k I’m 42. When I expected to be an adult. I have two kids that I raise alone and I’m still moved beyond words when I hear this music.
For real! I just nostalgia'd so hard I almost threw up!

Your dad was also your grandfather?
Omg I cry every time I hear this song idk why I guess it reminds me of how awesome childhood was

1:30 I love how that suspended 4th resolves up, not down. Great writing, great playing
My man's rlly out here with that music theory :)
Makes it sound all epic.
true, It's so uncommon to hear it resolve up yet It sounds beautiful
I love the 9ths
Excuse me, i am not a native speaker.
Would you please explain the meaning of "suspended" and "resolves" in the context used?
Great song, great cover, but most of all, great sweater

Really guys? I thought it looked a little plane.
I thought those were fish this whole time

Videogame soundtracks can be crazy powerful. They give you this feeling that takes you back to your childhood and a sense of wonder. Awesome cover

Because of the eel?
