- How to install a backup camera on a car or truck. Back up camera installation is a simple process. backup camera is also called as reverse camera. Buying a reversing camera kit is the easiest way as the kit comes with everything. Its harder to answer the question "what is the best aftermarket backup camera" coz most of them are made in china and then re branded. Anyways, if you wanna know how to install a backup camera system yourself cheaply (wired or wireless, rear view mirror or dashboard monitor or aftermarket head unit ), this would be an installation guide for you.
If you want, you can install more cameras to detect blind spots

my friend, i dont understand where comes the red wire, u talk so fast...u can tell me where exactly please?
i mean the red wire from the radio
I hope you've improved at doing these kind of jobs lmao I know this was 4 years ago but this was trash
Oh man, I thank you soooooooooooooooo much! I've just bought a reverse camera for my car and you showed every step I needed to be clear about, especially passing those cables through the sills! Most other videos miss that bit out! You sir, are a master! Thank you once again!
Best instructional video ever..... Actually I really can't say ever... Cause I haven't seen every video.. but Iam so glad I happened to see your video... thanks for the step by step instructions.. Thanks.. now I feel that even a beginner as my self can install a rear view camera instead of paying someone else... Thanks for sharing
Thanks buddy
Junky DIY guy
Thanks to your efforts, a professional installation with no problems.
The best well informed video I have seen . I used to teach auto electrical in TAFE so well done.
Bro, everything you do is so professional and imformative. Keep it up, i really ejoyed the video.
I bought a video camera backup system with the mirror and the camera and the wiring for $3 at Goodwill
Still the best rear camera installation video. A+ 1000 times
I'm a girl and you make everything seem so easy, even if I have to see the video 10 times, I will try it, thank you.
OMG! Thank you! Now I see how hard it is and I won't even try it!
This is my all-time favorite rear cam install too !
Great tutorial with good editing and video quality. AAA++++
Thank you.
I love how some of these install vids make it seem a peice of cake... it depends on the car... I just added one to a ford focus 2003 wagon and it was a royal pain in the ass.. fishing wiring thru the rear door hatch, then thru the rubber accordian connector to the roof area was a no go... no way an rca connector is going thru that accordian passageway which already had thick wiring in it... had to snip off the rca from the video feed wire, pass it thru, then connect to backup light then rip up more body moldings to get that wire up ftont, then had to resolder to rca back on.... took me hrs and hrs... also recommend doing a dry run before committing to the install... hook everything up to test wiring and camera..make sure it triggeers on reverse and camera shows on screen... that way you dont committ to installing a defective camera or bad wiring and have to pull it all out again.... i;d probably just turn my head and look over my shoulder vs doing this nitemare again.
Awsum man.. Now I feel brave enough to do this.. I really appreciate u man.
It takes lot of affort and hard work to make videos like this.. Keep this coming
You made it look so easy , great job ! I’m tempted in installing a reverse camera into my Aurion aswell now ! Hope all goes well
excellent video from start to finish, great instructions and tips all the way down to theme song that I'm about to google for
Excellent video and explanation, but my stereo does not have a “back” wire for the red wire from the video cable to connect to… Where do I connect the red wire that comes from the video cable in this case?
find a replacement video cable with trigger wires on both ends of it
Hi dear, many many videos I watched but no one explain like u thank you so much and God bless you.
When you connect the positive and negative to the the light bulb wires, do you also connect the other red wire as well to the same positive wire of the light bulb?
if your monitor/radio headunit has a trigger wire for reverse signal, you 'd better do this
The Backup Camera kit I bought did not come with instructions. It did have similar cables to those used in your video. So thanks to you it works. :)
This is a very useful video. Now I feel much more confident installing the new stereo and also wiring the backup camera to it. Thank you!
Dude, I know this video is old but so far it is my favorite out of all the reverse cam videos I have watched.
It's the best
Cool DIY video! Easy to follow, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video! I’m definitely purchasing a backup camera for my 1999 Ford Taurus now!
Had to find 6 different videos on how to connect the power wires to the reverse lights. Thank you for clearly demonstrating this!
So that extra red wire that runs of the yellow VGA cord connects to the power of the reverse light? As mine won't turn on when I put it in reverse but comes up when I push rear camera on head unit..
@@williams6140 I am having the same trouble, so what ended up being the case?
@@williams6140 did you end up having to connect the red wire from the vga cable to the positive wire for the light bulb?
Thank you for the video, very well done. I think even I can tackle this project . keep it up.
Optimistic narrator. Great vid
best DIY video i have seen in a long time. well done mate
When my mate and I installed a reverse camera in both our mazdas. His fuse popped and had to use a 15amp fuse for his to work. As for mine for some reason, I popped the fuse aswell, plus a 15 amp fuse we replaced it with. So my only option was a 25amp fuse which has proven to be the most reliable for my mazda. An now i have no issues, i dont if it's because mine is manual and his is auto. But the load on his car is different than what the load is on the system of mine
Very good instructional video. One observation though, if you disconnected the negative battery terminal, how is it that the head unit was powered on right before you removed it? Just wonderin'.....
There are wire splice T-connectors that just snap on to the desired power wires.
I've just enjoyed 2 of your postings; you are a funny guy and your content (headlights and reverse camera) is excellent. Good production values too. Great to see materials available in Australia rather than US/UK products. I'm hooked and have subscribed so more power to you!
super informative, love your work

Thank you for the detailed explanation, Well done! I have actually managed to install a camera to my Camry following your step-by-step video.
you're a champion.. keep it up
I need your advice, any help would be appreciated! ... after installing the DVD player and the reverse camera, the steering wheel buttons are not working (the volume up and down buttons both cause the volume to go up). Do you have a way as to how to get them to work? I have a Camry Altise 2007. The brand of the DVD is EHOTCHPOTCH.
Full details can be found in the AD on ebay www.ebay.com.au/itm/132294998061?ul_noapp=true
Regards.
This video is so well done. Thank you
Pure bliss. Well photographed and explained.
Excellent video. It does give me some ideas on how to do my car. thanks
He connects to the reverse lights twice??? I'm so confused. Why can't you connect the trigger and power to the same light?
Thats what i am wondering two!!
Me three
He did connect them to the same light. The first connection was to supply power to the camera when in reverse, and the second was to trigger the head unit to switch to what the camera is seeing. Could connect them at the same time but he did them seperately. Same same 👍🏻
dang, u r so much like pro mechanic, I may not have this much tools already

Great & helpful video . Well executed video with Step by step & photos
Thanks
Awesome vid
Can u install camera axactly in the middle or can it be a little to the right or lefts thanks
as what i can see on the road, most of them will be on the left side
where do you connect the orange cable that is next to the video plug that joins the camera
That Orange cable that comes out of your radio has to be connected to the small red cable that comes out of your video cable from the back.
And at the back you connect this red cable to your + from reverse light. So your radio registers that you're in reverse because the light goes on.
@@BalticBrothers Thx, that's the answer I was looking for. The video isn't very clear on that.
you connected camera power + and - to light. But what you had done to red wire from camera? you did not even connect it to + light ?
Great tutorial 🤙
Cheers gringo. What's best budget cam out there. Any good brands
Can you do one for a bird view 360 camera system please? I can't find a diy guide for this, please 🙏
Thanks sooooo much 🔥💥💥🔥🔥👍
Is soldering really required ? What happens if I don’t?
Very precise! Excellent video!

Great video. Just installed mine & it works great. Thanks.
good video, However I recommend crimping for connecting wires in cars, it's the absolute no.1 solution in automotive applications
Do I really need to use solder? Or its opcional just w the tape is enough??
And thanks a lot for your vid I’ve been looking for it a lot of vid out there but no one is specific Thks again
Optional

So got a question...
I have a head unit and installed a rear view camera...
It works for 2-3 seconds when I get to reverse and after that lines appear in screen and then gets a black screen!!!!
Hello i have problem with reverse camera. It stops working when im connecting red wire to "back wire". Maybe you know why it happens?
Great video, I am about to do this on mi car, I have got a new android stereo.
What if the monitor doesn't have a dedicated plug for the reverse camera? Is it still possible?
I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu. I am trying to figure out how to replace the original camera as it seems to be broken/disconnected. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to access the camera without removing the bumper. Any ideas or info?
Where did you actually put the canera
Pro level installation, video and editing. Super
You can also use any back up camera with night vision and with bnc or rca to a DVR system around your house and or view when away from home plus if you paint the shell of the camera and blend the color with the house they become unseen!!!!
**A CHEAP HOME SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM IDEA** What great idea huh?????(💡)
Do you connect the red wire from the camera to any 12?
Hey aren't you the same guy that does the fingerstyle guitar tutorials?
Is it necessary to solder the wires, or its twisting them ok?
that's ok
@@JunkyDIYguy thanks for the quick reply. awesome video bro
It's ok as long as you have an excellent connection that's never going to come apart
Hi guys. I have a question.
My screen has a Jack 2.5 mm input port.
