Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
You're the best face of the firearms community. Mature, welcoming, humble, articulate. I hope your career in making videos is long and prosperous.
I couldn't agree more! Besides my Father and a third cousin, Hickok45 has taught me more about gun safety and guns in general than anybody, and I'm not exactly a "Spring chicken" anymore. When I got my first guns, one was a Marlin model 60 .22 semi auto, and the other was at first a Mossberg .410 but my Dad took it back and got a 20ga, bolt action with an adjustable choke. Between my Dad and my cousin, they drilled into my brain about gun safety, then after about 3 months of them agreeing that I had THAT downpat, I was finally allowed to live fire either of them. Both had prior military experience and knew that a gun could be your lifesaver or lifetaker, but mainly I just wanted to hunt whitetail near Charleston SC, and boy do they grow 'em big down there. My first kill weighed out at a field dressed weight of 265lbs!! It took 3 guys to carry it back to camp lashed to a big pole, and the LAST thing the guys believed is that I, being all of 11 years old, bagged that big boy. Unofficially that buck was the 3rd biggest EVER killed in SC. Since we could only estimate it's weight before being field dressed, most of the experienced guys called it somewhere around 310lbs+/-. That's a helluva big whitetail!! Without the patience and guidance of both my Dad and my cousin, that moment probably would've never happened. Sadly both have now passed away, but all the lessons they gave me were and still are invaluable, just as Hickok45's are. He's indeed humble, he teaches, has a sense of humor and I just enjoy watching his videos, plain and simple. He's the kind of guy you'd want for a neighbor and friend for sure! I too hope he's making videos for MANY years to come, and as a creature of curiosity, I haven't watched a bad one yet. I always leave having learned something from him, which is more than I can say about other "gun guys" videos where they're too pumped up on less knowledge than they really have, and frankly just like playing with their false machismo which I don't have time for. Your comment was spot on, and IF Hickok45 reads this, I hope you open a place to go for people to learn to shoot as safely and as accurately as you do. I'd be honored to spend some time with a fellow "gunner" who in many ways reminds me of my Dad and my cousin both...a feat few have ever matched and I admired them both.
lrdeldric 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I second that 100%
I'm from the future.... his career has been great
Not to mention a great shooter!
_"There is nothing macho about firearms"_ ~Hickok45
I love this quote because it is so true! 100%
6:40
A table full of guns and a box of cigars. This guy is awesome.
lol @ 1:49 "John, when he was, oh, about that long, lying in the nursery..."
I can just imagine hickok45 telling someone about his new baby, "Yeah, he's about half as long as a Remington 572 and he weighs 52,000 grains!"
Stirner Stuff91 I could imagine that lol
Hahaha!
Hickok would've been sheriff in the 19th century... for sure
+Yas A very tall guy involved in sporting shooting, in later time he did a brief stint as a deputy, known for great storytelling, goes by the name of Hickok, loves his Colt Navys but favours newer models to them.
Hell, it'd seem he WAS one.
He was a deputy for 10 years.
FlickFlag Productions good to know :)
+Yas Yeah, check his "Military History?" FAQ video. :)
+Beau Vine LOL that's awesome. :D
I am 50 years old and bought my first firearm earlier this year and have since bought 2 more pistols. I really appreciate that you depict this as an enjoyable hobby/sport. I never like when politics gets in the way of ANYTHING! And appreciate that you don't try and force an agenda on folks. Regardless of your political persuasion shooting is fun and admiring the beauty and craftsmanship of a pistol or rifle is such BLAST!
You're a good Man Hickock!
My first at 43 and it’s the most fun and interesting hobby yet.
Thanks. Yep, shooting is so much fun; it's a shame that so many people get sucked into the anti-gun theology just because it's what their "cool" or "hip" friends or favorite media personalities buy into. Just about anybody who visits a shooting range one time and shoots a few guns is forever immunized against this gun-hating "group-think."
DON'T BUY NEW JUNK, WHEN YOU CAN BUY USED QUALITY.
this is a Mark Twain level quote in this consumer society we live in.. a great life lesson, if you're new or young or you don't know this yet.. recharge your brain so that it is fully listening and LISTEN again or .. read it again until you understand the idea in your bones... great video as usual, from a modern legend
+Cyanakrli depends on if it was taken care of or not
Couldn't find the used quality I wanted, so I bought new quality. My wallet hurts, but my trigger finger is ecstatic.
I feel bad for this lady that lives near me, she isn't so friendly on the subject of firearms, however my parents finally convinced her to go shoot a ruger 10/22 at the local range, and she changed her mind.
She's still iffy on the whole "My neighbors own firearms" bit, but she's a little more open minded.
(_I know she secretly liked it_)
This to me is the essence of what the shooting hobby is all about , or what it should be. What bothers me are the endless videos from others that continually push firearms for "self defense". Watching those videos , I get the feeling it's the authors , and the followers, greatest fantasy to actually be in a situation to kill another human being. Then you have those that carry around AR15's around in public to flaunt the second amendment , then folks wonder why there is such push back to gun ownership. Keep it up Hickok45 , I love watching someone who shoots for the love of shooting.
Lol Hugh Janus
+Jay Gressman
Hugh didn't answer so I'll give my two cents. I know this is a year old so I hope I'm not annoying anyone replying to this.
My interpretation of what he means is this:
Nobody NEEDS to carry around an AR15 for self-defense. Most people who carryin public carry pistols. I think Hugh is referring to videos where people carry an AR15 with the express purpose of eliciting a negative reaction from people around them and with the hope of getting stopped by a cop so they can make an argument.
I think there's a purpose to this kind of thing, but I wonder if the pros outweigh the cons, if you know what I mean.
I agree with OpenSight; it's hard to beat a shotgun slug for sheer power and energy. I just slung quite a few slugs yesterday from a Benelli M2 we borrowed, and as I remarked while shooting, it's rare to see the 80-yard gong actually move very much when hit. The slugs were really knocking that really heavy chunk of steel around.
My dream is to one day have a set up like yours, just somewhere I can go to shoot my guns without having to drive across town to a shooting range.
most cities outside of major ones have ordinances allowing just that. By me in NEPA as long as u have a property that totals more then 3 acres all u need is a backstop and SHOOT AWAY!
squishypitbull where my friend is in texas....he just tgoes to his back yard
lol
i live in Connecticut Imagine how much it sucks to find a place to shoot
Jordan B right here with you. i shoot at wooster mountain
combatarmsmaniac
wooster mountain in danbury ct?
"Don't buy new junk over used quality" Wisest words I've heard in a while when referring to the question: What should I buy?
Desert_rat_03sv that's how I feel about my first gun. A 1989 W. German Sig P220
That was something my uncle believed in heavily his favorite gun was a slam fire shotgun that was used by the police I believe sometime in the 30s or 40s and he has a .38 police special to pair with it
I am 14 years old, when i got my first gun I was 5. It was my good old cricket 22. that gun still shoots good to this day. I have never gotten into video games because I would rather be outside shooting real guns. But when I was about 9 my gramps handed me one of his 380's. I was automatically hooked. today me and him buy and sell various firearms together. now because of him and my family I shoot 45acp, 9mm, 40s&w, etc. and this summer we are going to shoot a 500 magnum ( can't wait). your videos have helped me explore the vast areas of firearms. my family and you have helped me support the 2nd better than ever. Thanks hickok45.
Tristan Skipworth Good to have you aboard. Thanks for watching!
Very cool story I am 17 been shooting my whole life and Hickok 45 and iraqveteren8888 are the two of the best people to watch on you tube if you plead the 2nd :)
+hickok45 That was such a cute little .22 man, really nice. and a nice video :D
Tristan Skipworth I want an ak !! 😊
Video games are good if you can't shoot guns all the time
That .22 pump action looks like an almost unreasonable amount of fun
I am a retired school teacher (11-18yr olds). Last year I returned to the sport after a very long time away, so found this channel relatively recently.
Great material and presentation. Really Great Teacher. Great ambassador for the community. Thanks hickok45. This should be on the required national school curriculum. ;¬D}
Hey man, I came from a country which we don't have firearm rights~and will not have the chance to enjoy the fun you guys have in US~ So I guess I know exactly what you mean~
Btw I do enjoy it by just watching your vid~Even I may not have the chance to get into shooting sport, I still enjoy the information and your lecturing, histories and various topics!
Just show my respect and best wish to you guys out there~Keep the positive attitude, and enjoy everyday!
Man you always help me with my gun purchases. If I'm interested in a gun I know you already reviewed it and I always recommend people that are interested in guns to watch your videos for information . Best gun reviewer on UA-cam
Derrick Lee i do the same thing
That's actually why I'm here to find out what gun to grab for my first gun I'm thinking something in .22 bolt action but that pump action is really nice
I would add to rule 4. Be sure of your target and whats behind it.
Billy Celli excellent rule, great thinking!
That's how I was trained. Good rule.
Good rule
Dear Hickok45, I realize that this is an older video however, I just wanted to say thank you for the first 5 minutes of this particular video. I am very happy to see advocating of safe and responsible gun ownership and usage. I absolutely agree with the notion that this is not (nor should it be) a sport for "hot headed" individuals.
I have had the pleasure of shooting my self on a few occasions and had been deeply intrigued by fire arms from a very young age.
I am by no means a "avid shooter" (and wouldn't dream to advocate my self as such). But I just wanted to say thank you, For being a solid example on the ART of handling and accurately showing these pieces of ingenuity for what they are and never loosing site of the fact that these are (in the hands of an untrained and ignorant person) dangerous weapons and definitely not toy's. It is a pleasure to see all the different kinds of handguns and rifles you use on this channel and I hope that you will continue to enjoy making these videos for many, many years to come.
Again, thank you very much and keep doing what you are doing.
Been watching your videos for awhile now, and I have this to say;
Hickok45 , you are an incredibly intelligent man and although I do not know you on a personal level, I can tell you are more than trustworthy to teach any of my loved ones about firearms. I wish you prosperity and may we all be graced with your excellent videos for many more days to come.
P.S. I wish I grew up on a range like yours.
its definitely not a macho thing, Im glad you said that.
what if its a woman? does that mean shes being manly? id say no, its because she wants to have some fun, maybe learn to defend herself with a firearm.
if you believe in your heart and soul that a gun in your hands makes you more of a man or more macho then you are a part of the reason if not an insignificant part that gun owners get a bad rep. like a spoon or an air ratchet, it lets you get the job done cleaner and faster. its a tool. nothing more. I can only assume your not much older than 20, one day when you get old you might see it moore clearly.
I'm 30, I age well because of being well in tune with the force.
ok lets look at it this way. il try to entertain the notion that guns and being well trained makes me a billy badass, plus a bonus: what do the dojo's teach us when we learn martial arts, what do they stress more and more the better you get. its that you must promise to never utilize your power or force on an individual or persons 'plural' in order to make a point, to be right, to win a brawl. we fight for knowledge and defense. nothing more. but as far as guns go, I can hit a paint can sitting inside a propped up steel wheel. that's like 2 inches diameter at 300 yards away with my D-Technik. ive shot the center of a 2 foot gong 250 yards away whith my pardner pump pistol grip only. and it was like 45 mile an hour winds that day. I mean I pointed over to the right in the opposite direction from the wind like 11 feet and pointed up about six feet and it hit on my first shot with some wax slugs that I always make. I make em where the wad stays attatched and it acts as stabilization for the frangible slug. then theres the .22, marlin xt22 with a microgroove barrel and a 2x7x32 scope. that's my favorite gun because it has decent penetration and its so cheap to shoot. 300 yard gun all day. I'm talkin three inch groups or better with that one. finally theres the .45 acp S.A.M. 1911 which was my moms but got her a glock 23 to trade ad I carried that 1911 everywhere in my shoulder holster for two years and then I got pulled over. I had a warrant for unpaid collections and they had to take me in which effectively rendered my on-person piece in their possession. don't tell me I deserve to have that taken because I feel we all have the right to bear arms. and the backup officer said " that's a good way to get shot" I then replied on camera "i guess it goes the same for both of us doesn't it?" but do I think it makes me more "macho" .. no, knowledge or defense. never more. if we have that "gentlemanly" and "proper" attitude about it then there is no macho left in the equation.
yep, close the case because that all youll know with that state of mind. you really should not read my comment in that case because you might develop new avenues of enlightenment that are not popular among the young or the "programmed drones we call people but are really just idiots that think whatever the tv tells them is hip or trending is cool and in and is "so "badass." I just hope you can act responsibly and be a man and save lives with it if the situation comes into play.
So I go to my local indoor gun range yesterday. My purpose for going was to rent an FNS-9 because Im interested in buying it and I fully believe in try before you buy. They didn't have any FN models at all to rent but that was not the issue. My problem is that the guy behind the rental counter said this: "I've fired every gun you can imagine. They all shoot the same." To which my reply was:"I've been looking at this M&P Shield but Im not sure about the single stack grip size because I have a large hand. What do you think?" His reply: "None of that matters. They all shoot the same." If first time shooters are coming into your establishment and you are morally in charge of teaching them safe gun practices ( basically because you have "shot every gun you can imagine") you don't tell them that every gun shoots the same. That's the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever heard at a gun range. The second best moment was when a girl opened the door to enter the range, someone fired a round and another guy behind the counter jumped about 2 feet in the air and appeared to pee on himself. Uh, you would think someone who works a gun range is at least somewhat used to the sounds. Needless to say, I'm not impressed with the staff at this range so far.
He doesn't sound very experienced with shooting. If I had never driven a pickup truck before, or any vehicle, and I drove five different models one day, I'd probably think they were the same. With more experience driving, I'd begin to see the differences.
hickok45 Exactly. I can't stress how disappointed I was with this guy. I have been planning and doing research for months about what firearms I want and without any knowledgeable people to talk to face-to-face about it. I was looking forward to discussing what I'd learned with a professional and getting some feed back. I definitely wasn't expecting "they all shoot the same." Anyway, thanks for commenting back. I enjoy your videos thoroughly and always look forward to new ones.
Some of the best "advice" I've gotten isn't from the guys behind the counters as it is the older Gents and Ladies that have fired all their lives.
IrvWay Short , was the rsnge in Ca. or N.Y. ?
hickok45 loo
It would be great if gun sellers would put a list of hickok45 in the box to help shooters.
TheGaming NorseMan idek if he does dear gahhddddddd😂😂😂🙄😂
Actually, that's an excellent idea and would be tremendously beneficial to both Hickok and the gun Sellers.
Hickok I've watched this video several times, shown it multiple times to others and shared the link to your channel countless times also. You do more for the Sport, the Second Amendment and the shooting community better than anyone I've seen in my 55 years. You are a credit to the Country, The Citizenry and to the shooting community and I along with others, (I'm sure) continue to applaud your efforts.
Thank you Hickok for all of these video's. Your message is professional, informative with just the right amount of humor to keep us engrossed in the knowledge. Your humble demeanor is much appreciated despite your obvious extensive background in the world of firearms and shooting (the tacti-cool guys wear on my patience. I've been around that stuff for much of my adult life). I am a former Marine infantryman and still your videos continue to teach me exactly what I didn't know (just got into revolvers and realized what I was missing). Keep 'em coming...
I hate living in the UK sometimes...
+deloreandmc85 I love living in America...
+deloreandmc85 Bro you got the Favela for a reason. You can practically get an MP5 there.
+Limejuice that's crazy
Do you still shoot though mate?
+Shaun
LOL are you kidding me?
Thank you for this video! As a fairly new shooter myself, I appreciate every piece of information I can glean. I know there are MANY new shooters these days, as well as CPL holders. We need the teaching :)
"A tough guy"- A guy who works all day, everyday to take care of his family. He often puts the safety and well being of others in front of his own. He can be relied on by family, friends, neighbors, and generally anyone who needs him. He faces down life's problems and tribulations without flinching. All while resisting the urge to become a belligerent drunk or buying an Indian Motorcycle and "riding into the sunset".
Not at all what he meant
Learned to shoot with a .22 Mossburg target rifle in 1964! Joined high school rifle team and had great fun with friends and enjoyed the competition. By my senior year I was one of the top shooters. later in the Army in 1966 got to use the M-14 and because of my training with the .22 did very well. Didn't care for the M-16, but, it worked. Also enjoyed a Browning .22 pistol that was great fun and extremely accurate. That helped in learning to use pistols in transition to .380 and 9mm. Totally agree that the .22s are the place to start. I still have my Mossburg and also a Ruger 77/22 and recently added a Ruger 9LC that is easy to use and fun to shoot. I'm retired now but looking forward to using my .22s and other firearms on the range a little more frequently. Good review! I enjoy this fella's video and reviews. Nice and friendly with good information, Keep it up and Thanks!
I'm starting out with the Ruger SR-22. It's a smaller lighter polymer gun which is good because I'm headed towards a CCW gun. There are so many things you suck at as a new shooter I'm finding out. It's not as easy as I was expecting. I pulled down and left from clenching as I shot at first, I then twitched right as I pulled the trigger. I wasn't breathing right so my accuracy was all over. I anticipated recoil so I aimed down. There are so many things to work out I'm glad I'm only dealing with a light recoil and relatively inexpensive ammo. I'm so glad I'm able to at shoot three to four times the amount of rounds as I could have been able to with any centerfire gun/ammo. The SR-22 has been a champ as well as it feeds anything I've fed it incredibly reliably.
I am reading the comments, and I can't say enough how grateful I am to be an American and have my second amendment rights.
PJ Pa i wish i was an American
Make sure you defend that right. Plenty of motion right now to undermine or even remove those rights from you.
PJ Pa Yeah, there’s a good culture in these comments. People who watch Hickok’s videos are proud to be American.
I may have a stupid profile name and photo, but I am proud to be an American and have all the rights I do. I hate that not everyone can have same rights or even food.
Yeah amazing!!! I haven’t heard about a gun death or shooting in my British town in 15 years or more!! I’d love to be able to get to a range! But who needs those guns on the streets???? It’s madness 🤔🤔😩😩😩☠️☠️☠️☠️
I have been shooting guns for 6 years now and I still shoot a bunch of .22 guns. They are very enjoyable and easy to shoot. they also don't destroy your targets as quick
I grew up shooting guns, I love guns, I own guns... hickok45 has the 100% correct attitude towards owning guns! I'm not sure guns should be easy to own, but if you have the attitude of "I first love this as a hobby and second you never know I MIGHT need to defend myself with it" then you should have all the guns you want.
Thanks. Except we don't want some government dictator wannabe deciding who has the right attitude about firearms and who doesn't. Pretty short step there to considering almost nobody meeting the test. I'd rather take my chances with freedom, which tends to be a bit messy sometimes. Okay with me.
hickok45 The democratic government is made up by the people and for the people, hence why we don't have a dictator. And guns don't stop a person becoming a dictator. A well created system, with people participating in that system is what stops a dictator coming about. Hence why we have America with freedom and guns, the U.K with freedom and major restrictions on guns and, Australia with freedom and no guns. But I guess we can agree to disagree.
I agree, Toby Cline, and just imagine if we lost it even for just the one generation. There would be many older guns and history we would never get back. I know I am someone who loves the history and age of my guns just as much as I love shooting them, we must appreciate everything about them.
Noone who actaully want's to use a gun on people should own a gun IMO.
+Kahla Howard Loosing your gun is the least of your problems when your government goes rogue.
I own a lot of 50. cal snipers, pistols, assault rifles, machine guns. My uncle was in the military so that's why he's teaching me. he's only 25 too
Awesome video hickok45!! I don't shoot personally because of the country I live in, but your videos are really informative and fun to watch.
Amen Sgt Hickok! 35-year-old father of five and new shooter/NRA life member here! Never too late to start a new passion that helps us all directly and indirectly
BTW, i'm seeking a CCW, not so for the sole purpose of carrying - although I plan to but mostly because of the training involved.
I am quite young (16-18) and have been shooting competitive shotgun sports for five years now and since I began I have seen and heard such ignorance in not just my small group of peers but also from those much older than I am. I often find that their opinions and views are breed from gross ignorance of the shooting sports and from what the liberal media has feed them. I find a polite, educated, and well spoken man (as to what my young self has been able to compare to others in his short lifetime) such as yourself attempting to educate and welcome new blood into the shooting sports a breath of fresh air. I love your videos and appreciate the time you take to make them.
I guess I would warn new shooters that the sport is expensive. Gonna buy a gun and some ammo? That’s cute.
Five years later you’ll have: a safe, 2 shotguns, three rifles, two revolvers, five pistols, extra magazines, 40,000 rounds of ammo, a membership at every range within 209 miles, magazine subscriptions, and trunk load of reactive targets.
I'm about a year into that process myself haha but you're right. 40 rounds of ammo is no small thing today. I would also add some kind of insurance policy, and at least a few hours of paid time with an actual firearms lawyer to bang out any questions you have about laws in your state or beyond
been a gun enthusiast for 45+ years ( am 53 ) have been shooting since 5 years old and love the Hickok45 channel , always something to learn or consider and as always great common sense advice blended with hands on experience ... everyone who has found this channel should be thankful for it , what a great ambassador of the shooting sport
For anyone who is just getting into shooing, I highly recommend getting some good hearing protection(I use plugs+muffs). This will help with flinching and improve precision.
Please do a gun collection video.
Soon to be new shooter here. I just want to thank you for this video and all your videos actually. In going through the process of getting my son his rifle certification for Boy Scouts I remembered how much fun I had shooting tin cans and milk jugs with my dad. One of the parents there invited us over to shoot,my wife and I had an opportunity to shoot a glock 17. The look of joy in her eyes is something I've not seen for many many years. Long story short, our friend recommended your channel to us and we're eagerly gobbling up every bit of information we can while we wait for our Foid cards to arrive. Again,I want to thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We both really enjoy your vids and are learning sooo much!
I love the4 way you address people who aproach guns/shooting as a macho or tough guy thing.
These people scare me, too. I never thought that much about it, but these people d actually scare me.
Another excellent video hickok45. I'm British born but moved to the US a while back. Though i'm interested in firearms ( more from a curiosity standpoint) I would doubt I would ever own one. Being from the UK, they are something that I never grew up with in any capacity and therefore am unfamiliar with and extremely dubious about the usefulness of having. Secondly the awesome responsibility of gun ownership. As you make mention, these are things to be taken seriously and I have a problem resolving the conflict between the 'fun' aspect of shooting and the realisation that a gun is designed to deprive someone or something of its life, something no one should take likely. Irregardless, please keep making your video's and who knows, one day I might come round to different way of thinking. :)
Im a "gun person" and find your opinion respectable. That being said you can still go to ranges and shoot rental guns cheaply enough to at least experience it.
***** Curiosity: why AZ flag?
*****
I totally understand that sentiment. Been in AZ since I was 3. Left when I joined the service but came right back. I'm a desert rat through and through. :)
Please expunge 'irregardless' from your vocabulary.
Why? It's being used in the grammatically correct way.
Honestly I have to say. I’ve been searching many videos about guns. And I have to say that this guy is awesome. Every time I see a video of him. I get more excited to get my license to carry. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for making this video! I'm one of the young people you speak of towards the end; I was raised by leftist anti-gun parents, so my exposure to firearms was only in video games and movies.
Now I'm 23 and I'm looking to get into target shooting. Thank you for being the voice of the responsible shooter!
the attitude you have going into this is great, you keep that attitude while you're shooting and don't get frustrated you will do great. always do your research. like hickok said, it's the real deal, take precautions and know what you're dealing with, then you can have fun with it
When I was very little I would always have toy guns and couldn't view guns as anything other than toys.
That all changed really quickly on my 10th birthday. My father had taken me out to a range for the first time and let me shoot his .22 rifle.
It was still all fun and games. Then he hands me his 12 gauge. I fired it thinking it would be like the BB guns or maybe the .22 which I thought was strong.
Next thing I know I'm laying flat on my back about 3ft behind where I was when I fired it. From that day forward I never thought guns were toys or to be taken lightly.
Now, many years later I am a police officer. My kids are quickly approaching 10 and I will do the exact same thing for them.
make sure they know and understand a shotgun has recoile and to be ready its not funny to get suprised by what happened to you at 10
LEOBear how does one become a Cop? Im 21 and want to start a career as a Policeman, but dont know where to start.
Davida Michaele the point is to suprise them. It'll hurt, but it won't break an arm. That's the point
But you might teach them to flinch.
LEOBear just be careful, some kids will be turned off shooting again.... cheers
My dad (53) and myself (22) got into guns and shooting just over a year ago thanks to channels like this. The amount of information you give is amazingly detailed while not being overbearing. Gun weight and Caliber is something that i admit we found ourselves acting the same way that you described in the video. My first handgun was a Canik TP9V2, ontop of it being well reviewed and a good value, it felt really good in the hand but at first i thought it seemed heavy compared to other handguns i had looked at but my dad had since bought a SCCY CPX 2 in 9mm aswell, and while its a great gun, its lower weight means that its muzzle flips is higher and on the other end of the spectrum he recently bought a Taurus Tracker 44 which has a weight is nearly double that of my Canik but it is a 44 magnum so yea.
My first time shooting was with a .44 Magnum. That may have been too big of a beginning step.
my second gun.......s&w 44mag...so much fun
At least it was memorable, I think to get interested in shooting, you need to experience some drama.
Lol
First time I ever went out to shoot. It was my grandpa's Benelli semi auto 12 gauge. Little did I know, he had loaded it birdshot, birdshot, target load, target load, SLUG. and yeah, nothing after the slug, of course.
By support gun rights he means support gun rights, not the NRA.
What's wrong with supporting lobbying groups such as NRA, GOA, NAGR, JPFO, et al? In an era where letters to your congressman carry little weight compared to the voices of lobbyists, especially the very loud voice of that scum sucking self hating Jew Bloomberg with his EveryClown, I would say our best bet is to also support groups working in our interest along with our calls and letters, no?
lordmasterization die ist n..
Bob Ghassan The N? What does the letter N have to do with this?
This video is really a great one. Ive been teaching my 9yo sister how to shoot recently and I'm really not the teaching type. I looked up shootibg basics and found this and this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. She saw me firing my Garand and wanted to get into it and I started her on the little Red Rider and ive been teaching her the basics that I myself learned from this channel. I got into shooting a couple years ago from video games and looked up a shooting channel because I knew there had to be more to it than the games lead on. I found Hickok and learned the basics through his videos and through some really great people at my local range who have seen me grow as a shooter and its videos like this that really make a difference because its passing on a really enjoyable hobby to the next generation. Keep it up guys I'll be here till the end.
Friends, I am Dutch and live in the Netherlands. It would take me exactly one year to be able to get a small 22 rifle, and A LOT of paperwork, a good reason (home defense isnt one) and registrations and a club membership. Then, after another year of ownership, I could get higher caliber. I am looking for a gun for self defense due to the immigrant crisis. Even a 22 would be preferable then nothing, but even that is tough to get. Even pepper spray is banned here. Also, Private property isn't really private since you don't own anything below 1 meter of ground- so no resources, and you're not allowed to protect yourself with violence if necessary against thieves or criminals on your own property. Leftist liberals see us as an example of what they want America to be like. DO NOT let them infringe your rights!
The Hoan thats not what they want though
The Hoan Thank you and good luck over there 😀
Ok, so gun laws in Holland are more strict than laws in Italy... :/
Wow, that sounds even worse than Britain. Here, it takes a few months to get a firearms certificate, and once you've got it you can buy anything that isn't restricted, no further waiting periods.
How did you do??
I loved the way you put self-defense and conceal carrying into perspective for everyone.. I have a fire extingiusher.. etc. well said brother. Having the rights we have, to own, fire, and carry firearms is one of the many reasons I'm proud to be an american, and I will never stop appreciating the rights we are given. God bless this country we call home. (Esspecially the southern states) ;-p
Your right to self defense is a God given right! God Bless America!
goretro77 god bless you. and America brother.
I really appreciate the information about safety and attitude. I am an experienced shooter and have competed in several different types of run and gun competitions as well as putting in a lot of range time.
I believe that our safety development as a nation is running behind our growing interest in firearms and shooting. There are so many new shooters all the time and so many competitions going on around the country and so many gun clubs taking up run and gun competitions for the first time and so many people conceal carrying for the first time. The danger level is growing. Every week people are getting shot in negligent discharge situations and the offenders are sometimes cops and shooting instructors etc. I have went to run and gun competitions where they were winging it and not enforcing basic rules and lots of macho attitudes running rampant.
I just love your attitude Hickock!
+W.Co.VIDS Sorry *Hickok
I like how you addressed the psychological aspects of gun ownership.
New shooter here. Loving all the resources online and on youtube. Absolutely love learning the skill of shooting. Thanks, hickok45!
"I always liked to throw rocks" haha love this man
I've been shooting since I was 8 (I'm 18, now) and I still watched this all the way through because I like your videos. Haha. Shooting really is one of my most enjoyable hobbies. Nothing relieves a little bit of stress like taking a big ol' .44 Magnum out to the range and blowing some holes in a little paper. Haha :D
The most outstanding firearms video ever. You are explaining what every experienced shooter has spent many years, and many dollars finding out, in a 30 minute video. You are truly owed a debt of gratitude, thank you!
Love it man. As a Canadian let me tell you - you don't wanna lose the 2nd Amendment
Don't buy NEW JUNK, when you can buy USED QUALITY"... well said.
What should New shooters be looking for as far as used quality?
I swear parts of this video should be shown in beginner gun safety courses. I recently received my LTC in MA and I'm an absolute beginner that's going through every video on your channel! The lessons, advice, and knowledge in these videos are invaluable.
Good video. I'm going to be buying my first gun next week. Beretta px4 storm.
Hope you like it!
Good choice
Let us know your opinion of it.
Unfortunately I'm still waiting for it to be in stock.
So what made you choose the Storm?
I'm glad he took a smack at the "tough guy" garbage that seems ever so ubiquitous in martial pursuits, and especially where firearms are concerned. A firearm doesn't make you strong or brave, and it especially doesn't transform you into a tool of justice. When I hear people at the range or in public speaking in such terms, it disappoints and disgusts me. I agree with Hickok; find another "hobby," we don't need you. You're a danger that society doesn't need and you may inadvertantly contribute to the loss of our ability to arm ourselves--and for physically disabled people like myself and several of my friends, that makes us extremely appealing targets with no recourse.
I know this video is seven years old but... I'm a newer shooter and I'm learning/getting better every week. It's definitely something I want to keep up as a hobby/sport and potentially get my conceal carry permit for protection (down the road when I'm ready). Watching videos like this in between range visits enforce all the new information I'm receiving, so I very much appreciate them. You present this information in such an approachable manner and it's helping me stay interested and informed on what I need to know between range days. Thank you, Sir, for making these videos! I've also never really given 2A rights a ton of thought. Figured it was never something I'd have to worry about being taken away, but in today's climate I know I need to be more mindful of electing representatives who will ACTIVELY protect that right for all of us. So again, thank you very much for putting these videos on UA-cam so people like myself can join this community in a safe & informed way.
Thanks a bunch. I'll start off with a 50bmg.
Korya Iine pfff that's a child's caliber. I started with 40mm.
ha cmon, I teach my -4 year old son with a 105mm howitzer
I love that... I've got a fire extinguisher in my house... Good analogy. I hear all the time people say why need it.. I don't plan to have a fire in my home.. and I don't plan on having a person break in either.
Hickok45 videos are FANTASTIC. You can get a great education on firearms by listening and applying what he teaches you in his videos. Keep up the good work gentlemen!
"Let's not make it a 40 minute video"
*Makes it a 34 minute video*
I'm a gamer, I do admit the vast majority of the people in the gaming community are not fit to have a real gun within half a mile of them maturity wise. But the thing is, is gamers get pissed off at associations like the NRA for one main reason. It isn't because gamers are anti-gun, most are actually pro-gun. The reason why most gamers hate things like the NRA, is because when they go to politicians they go to support our second amendment right, ok that's awesome, good job, but what happens then is, is the politician will go and say "well gun violence is still high they need restrictions and bans, etc.", then the NRA goes and says "well that's just them dumb kids playing them video games that go and do that stuff" and the entire blame for any violence for guns gets thrown on to us because were on Call of duty shooting bad guys or on Grand theft auto killing cops. I've been playing those games since I was 7, I'm perfectly fine. I just have the common sense to know what guns do and how to handle them. They fail to acknowledge the fact of the numerous amounts of studies that have been done over the past couple decades to show that a kids brain isn't any more violent than they were previous to playing violent games. Yes, guns are still in those games, and yes the literally replicate what a gun would do in real life to a person and that is kill them. But we as gamers (most with common sense and no mental issues at least) know that all those guns are, are just pixels on a screen. They have no meaning to anything in the physical world. That's why in a video game I don't hesitate to shoot some guy off of a motorcycle and steal it in Grand theft auto. Because I KNOW it isn't real. Does that mean I'm going to go out and actually do that? No. Plain and simple.
Jimmy Gangster Most people realize what you say is true, even NRA members. I think it's just like anything else; if somebody goes "whacko," then everybody starts looking back at what his life was like, what his obsessions were, etc. IF he was obsessed with watching "The Twilight Zone" episodes, then they will blame that. If he did nothing but watch cartoons, they'd blame that. The truth is, he might have been obsessed with playing video games, but he also had some other problem. Could be that whatever his real problem was kept him from differentiating between the virtual reality of the video game and the reality outside his door, but the problem goes deeper than the video game. Almost everybody plays video games. It's a bit like blaming the gun instead of the person holding the gun when violence occurs.
hickok45 you mentioned cartoons and i can't help myself but,you or I don't see Yossimity Sam anymore,(and i miss them).Probably banned by the same people that are ruining our country!
hickok45 you're 100% right, I've played violent video games since I was younger... Now I'm a gun owner and one of the most responsible 20 year olds I know. I have to admit that video games and TV/movies introduced me to firearms at first but I wouldn't have taken the plunge and bought one followed by another if I wasn't 100% confident in my ability to enjoy the sport safely for both myself and others. I wish our gun laws were more lenient here in Ireland they are very restrictive and getting even worse, it's very frustrating as a responsible person here who enjoys firearms that you can no longer legally buy or licence a pistol above .22lr calibre, you cannot get a semi automatic centre fire rifle without going to court against the local authorities. They are now trying to ban them outright and take them away from the people who successfully won their court cases and they are also trying to limit semi auto shotgun capacity to 3rounds only. The ironic thing is that you could get a semi auto 22lr with as many 25 round mags as you like on a restricted licence, will going on a rampage with a gun like that be any worse than the centre fire variant? Will it kill you any less dead than the centre fire variant? If you're responsible enough to own any firearm for an extended period and not hurt or threaten anyone then why should you be penalised for it?
Jimmy Gangster 100%. The main reason, in spite of being totally fine with guns and looking to get more involved on the plinking level, that I will NEVER support the NRA or any other gun association that will try to pass blame off onto gamers. If you're really concerned about bringing down firearm related homicide, the best thing you can do is have background checks, which we already really have. They could be enforced better, and there's enough room in the wording of the second amendment for us to decide democratically how easy or tough we would like acquiring an arsenal to be. But as it stands, the NRA isn't helping at all. Their smokescreen tactics and spin doctoring hurt shooters as much as the people who wet themselves at the sight of an intermediate rifle.
Jimmy Gangster The simple truth is you could ban Cartoons and videogames and anything with violent content . You can put all kinds of background checks in and bans but you are never going to stop that one Guy or girl that has a mental problem from going off and going on a shooting rampage. It's sad to say but that's the way I feel. I agree with you they should not use gamers or any other group of people as a crutch .
Great videos Mr Hickok45. I am 49 years old from southern Illinois. I have been using you videos and the advice from several friends to decide on my first hand gun purchase. A Ruger SP101 SS 4" barrel .357. I needed something for home defense (Honady ammo) but something that i could load with stronger ammo for out in the woods.
Please keep the videos coming.
It is awesome to see this video nearly at 1 million views.
Nevermind, it just hit 1 million when I refreshed it. Congrats Hickok45
As of 13, Jan. '18 the tally is now at
1,581,544 views
I love your political beliefs. I also strongly support the 2nd amendment. God bless America!!
Thanks for posting this. As someone who recently got back into shooting after taking 20 years off, I found I needed help in 2 areas. One is understanding the laws regarding carrying and conceal guns. The second time I asked for help was in regards to a new AR15 that I purchased. Most people were extremely helpful, some went out of their way to help. Some on the other hand were downright nasty if I didn't have 20 years of AR15 history and accessory history off the top of my head. So I believe that the nasty people can dampen the spirits of new comers, but I am still here and still shooting :)
Hicock is a role model of mine.
I wanted to join a local pistol club (UK), but they wanted to put me through so much govt. bureaucracy and regulations that I conceded defeat.
Great VIdeo! As a new shooter, I welcome those veterans that have the compassion and patience to help us newbies. Keep up the great work!
Dave in St. Louis
Excellent and very important points. We all need to come together to demonstrate responsibility and spread the importance of upholding our 2nd amendment rights. What is happening in California right now with gun laws could happen elsewhere if people continue to be tuned out of the process.
I'm starting with an air gun. What should my next choice be? Need license first however.
I was thinking of a Beretta 92FS or PX Storm
ravenwda007 My first was a Springfield XD in 9mm. I didn't like the XDm, make sure you hold both in your hand, they are very different feels. But I got myself a new 92fs and I love that too. The Beretta is a very fun gun to shoot, very smooth, very easy to shoot, very dependable. In the end though, I personally shoot better with the XD. In my time on the range, the 92fs with stock sights is made more for quick target acquisition and easy follow up shots when shooting quickly not really timed accuracy shots. It is easier to move and shoot with and quick target and fire. However, I wouldn't every day carry (EDC) a 92fs, it is really big and really heavy. I carry the XD with the polymer frame. Also note, the safety, the 92fs has an external decocker and safety. When on safe, the trigger will not engage but can still be pulled back. The safety on the XD is on the trigger which really just protects against accidental trigger pulls. This is an advantage to the XD in terms of EDC for me. I don't have to worry about whether the safety is engaged, I can draw, rack, and fire in a fluid motion. I know you didn't ask about the XD, but when people think about guns, a big topic is the Polymer frame vs. Metal frame. It deals a lot with weight and such. (The XD was also like 400$ cheaper too)
johnnylancenese
I'm in Canada so an every day carry is not an option for me. I just want something that is fun to shoot at targets at my local hand gun club.
The Beretta appears to be a great choice for me because it is really heavy, which reduces recoil. Ammo prices are ok, not great, but ok.
Well I know what 45 said, but there is a balance to be struck. Maybe I'm just used to the recoil and am blind to it, but yeah, I love my 92fs.
ravenwda007 The storm will probably be my first handgun. Did you do the course yet? I just finished my pal/rpal back to back, a lot easier than I thought it would be. The px4 storm was one of the pistols we used on the course, loved it.
Pingo bags
No I haven't done the course yet, but I have to finish school first. I was looking at the PX4 Storm as well. I was also looking at the SIG P320.
This is a superior intro to guns video. Sharing this with my best friend to help him get acquainted and educated a bit before he gets his first firearm. Thanks Hickock, you rock.
An old marine told me somthing that stuck with me nearly 30 years ago that solidified my love for the sport and necessity of weaponry. ...Evil exists and will ALWAYS do evil.... will you be the one to stand against it when no one else can or will you trust that someone else will step in......your choice
Lower gun crime rates does not equal lower crime rates. You are redirecting the problem, not solving it, with gun control.
And the good news is that crime has been consistently falling over the last few decades.
Cole Knoernschild crime has not been going down fucktard it's been going up 10 fold
You sir are wrong.
Hickok45 is my favorite shooting channel. No politics, no fluff, just great information and insight.
my goal is to move out of cali. the gun laws out here a ridiculous!
Luis Gonzalez have you moved yet?
Come to texas your the type of Californian we want moving here . 10 day waiting period. Thats crazy
Are we ever going to meet Mrs. Hickok45?
Thanks, hickok45. I've been looking into joining the firearms community a lot this past year, deciding if it is "for me", or not. I have submitted my application to own firearms, and am patiently waiting to be approved. It's awesome to have men like you post videos like this to help us who are new to the scene. It is much appreciated, and I love learning from your videos.
LMAO.. "Harry.. your gonna dieeee" that was great.. I started my son shooting around 9 he is 12 now.. we are in a Rod and Gun club and its been the best thing I ever did.. we spend a lot of time together out there.. I bought him a new Ruger SR22 recently he has shown responsibility and professionalism at the range at all times so he earned it. My wife is a middle aged school teacher and a very mild mannered person she loves to shoot also. I avoid the Cowboy, Dirty Harry guys at all costs.
Old proverb known in the Polish army is "Unloaded gun shoots by itself once every year. And unloaded broom shoots once every ten years" ;) That is why all the guns shall always be considered loaded. Even if you think you know it is not loaded. This is well known military fact, that the Gremlins do exist. The Army Gremlins are known for their habit to load guns when nobody is watching. Believe in Gremlins! Don't be ashamed of it. It does not make you looks stupid. I'll tell you what would make you looks stupid - when you decide to clean up your gun and end up with pieces of you brain smeared on the nearest wall. And some nasty Gremlin would laugh at you, moron. And never point your broom at other people because, well... you never know, right? :D
Hickok45 truly an honor to watch and hear you insight on firearms !!! what a Great representative of firearm community
All that delicious soda going to waste!

I would love to play some ultimate frisbee with hickok45 lol
Mr. Hickok (or Mr. 45?) I just want to thank you for your contributions as a whole. I'm not a new shooter (not a pro either) but this video and your many other videos are so helpful and full of knowledge. You not only share knowledge (lots of people do that) but you do it so well and really share your passion and enjoyment as well. When I'm not shooting, I want to be. So if I can't shoot, watching your videos helps scratch that itch. And you sure as shootin aren't lying. Life really is good
All shooting I've seen John do was with his camera, am I rite?... :P
+DigGil3 YOu must be new and have a huge number of videos to see, both here and over on HIckok45andSon channel.
hickok45 Sure, I was just joking. Actually, I've known this channel for a while, but been visiting quite sporadically.
+DigGil3 You should start visiting more often!
+hickok45 What a great ambassador you are for the sport. I'm glad your channels was brought back. The community really showed its support for you.
After all these years I still enjoy shooting my 10/22 more than any other firearm. And tin cans are the best!
All the gems of wisdom in one video...
This needs to be the Hickok45 intro video, before all the others.
The wolves are alive and well in the People's Republic of New Jersey. I'm not a big fan of Chris Christy but the one good thing he has done is keep the wolves at bay. When he leaves office, gun owners are doomed here.
Lol at the joke at 23:50. "Huh?"
Mr. Hickok45 you are definitely my go to channel for firearms insight. Appreciate your work sir ...
Thanks.
I thought the best gun to start with was a PTRD.
that's to OP
+Andy Olarra It'd be great for pocket carry.
***** It's a joke, do you even know what a PTRD is?
Andy Olarra Soviet Anti Tank rifle
