I appreciate how everyone is surprised that CAR comes naturally when the whole point of CAR is to best use the shooter's natural/instinctual point of aim. Which is why it makes quite a degree of sense to use in John Wick scenarios when you're shooting people at no more than 5-10 meters, and need instantaneous reactions and aim, plus the added benefit of retaining your weapon close to the body in case of grappling. Not that anyone in real life is having gun-fu pistol battles, but, y'kno.
I would say most real world self defense situations are exactly that. Very short range and the potential for the other party to try to grab it away from you. I would love to have a red dot, flashlight and laser combo and be able to fully utilize them but when split seconds count, that closer draw definitely makes sense.
you dont point your gun out at close range thats common sense....... if theyre close theyre within arms reach. your gun should be at a spot where they have to endanger themselves to get it. you dont draw and raise your hand to a 90 degree angle....you bend at your elbow and raise your arm to waist level and either raise or lower..... or shoot through your coat and no need to up at all
Also more logical considering most people most of the time aren't wearing body armor, so squaring up actually presents a bigger target to someone shooting back, making you easier to hit, than being in a CAR bladed stance. A lot of modern shooting revolves around body armor and further shots, both of which a common civilian aren't using typically.
Really? Action movies are my fave genre, but the John Wick films are absolutely garbage. Honestly I can't understand why so many people like them, they're borderline Bollywood bad.
Cody = goat! Roots are most important! I'm christian myself, but if you incorporate any ethics & moral code (well, except jihadi type of nonsense) to your kids socialization = you're raising good people & citizens.
One of the reasons why I love watching your videos is because of the sheer amount of fun you guys are clearly having in every one. Your charisma & jokes are infectious & everything is shot really well. Keep up the great work guys.
I think with Center Action Relock. If you watch the first film again. He does fully extend when shooting at ranges. Because he is one hiding in the dark for precise headshots, etc. He switches to CAR after his hit in Italy. Because at that point everyone is up in his business. People are after John at that point. Pushing into his space at all times and he is fighting in clubs, dance floors, etc. He still does fully extend a lot in the 2nd film. But in the 3rd and 4th films. He has no room, people are constantly in his space and super armored. Like the suits and guards. Which I think is a cool detail. To always be able to shoot. He pulls in really close. I just thought that was an interesting detail to see over time. 😀
Keanu did explain why he uses CAR in one of his training videos on either the first or second movie, he said he liked the way it looked when he incorporates his jiu jitsu stuff into it, everything is nice and tight
I mean, it makes a ton of sense if you're very very close and you're focused on retention, then speed, then accuracy. It also makes a lot of sense while taking corners. Other than that, I'd take a corner that way, then extend into standard modern stance/grip while moving into a larger space than a corner or doorframe. Idk who said it but "a stance is a snapshot of a moment in time" CAR, Weaver, Isosceles etc. They all belong, and a good shooter should know and be able to apply all 3
Agreed, and the action scenes really add a lot to the videos. Mike and Micah make a great team. I would love to start seeing some kind of short films or miniseries on the horizon
The Pit Viper holds 21 rounds. What John Wick needed was 21 rounds of armor piercing ammo. Same for the AR rifles and shotguns. Just like in the 3rd film.
That scene in the 3rd movie really frustrated me, it made for a good fight scene but I can't believe out of that whole armory for fighting a ton of elite, heavily armored combatants he'd pick a 16 inch MPX
so strange to see a Garandthumb video without Garandthumb. Super stoked that you guys managed to get John Wick to come on the show though, so awesome!!!
The fact that you can put out a video, have fun and not be too serious while still putting out quality information makes me wish I could be on that rangewith you guys. Damn good video to start my day. Thanks gents. Keep em coming. Time to get back to the work bench, gotta build something worthy of such a time.
Fun fact,my Dad is a director for the OTOA police conference. They have a police range day where gun vendors bring their new products out so officers can shoot them. They had the same Gen12 Shotgun that was in this video and I got shoot it while I was working the range. Pretty cool for a sixteen year old kid.
They probably went with dragon's breath to disable the armored suits every assassin wears in the movie, since they showed one catching on fire when testing one of their shotguns. Aside from that though it really does just look cool.
I think that's gotta be the best opening(production wise) you've ever done. Y'all are doing great with the filming and prouction lately, but this was just *chef's kiss
My guess for the Dragon's Breath (besides just looking cool) was an attempt at someway to get around his ballistic suit You can't shoot through his suit, but you can still burn em out
The Dragón Breath wasnt that realistic, but neither the bulletproof Suits tho.. After saying that, I understand why they choose the Dragon Breath rounds, it's because of how it affected the lighting, it was awesome with the combination of the way they filmed, another thing is they used the Dragon's Breath while inside the building, so even if it shouldn't turn them in flames.. still definitely would kill someone at those distances..
Yes the in universe reason for using dragons breath was to get around the bullet proof suit as we even see John shooting people with it and they just fall over from the impact but are now on fire
@@ramonlovera9894 Obviously John Wick is a hyperstylised action thriller so I feel that some technologies are specifically heightened/advanced in a similar manner to John's unkillable nature and Caine's ability to see without sight

I went to see the film yesterday with my brother and a friend. They thought the Pit Viper was a badass gun. They are outside of the gun community, but my brother knows your channel and we were wondering if you’ve already made a video about it. So great of you to be already working on it. Amazing work!
I ordered the airsoft version of the pit viper (going to prank my wife with it for april fools make her think I blew 7 grand). I would never own the real one. 7k for a 2011 with a polymer grip is just dumb, I've shot with guys that have tried some of Taran's guns and compared to an Infinity or an Akai they just aren't that good especially for what you are paying for them
DO NOT BUY IT unless you got money on the wazoo or profit from competition shooting. Taran Tactical sells overpriced firearms regardless of quality. No pistol should ever in my opinion be worth over 3k regardless of how niche or high quality they are. A pistol doesn’t make a shooter good, training and time make a good shooter.
In that first CAR drill, Admin getting the overpenetration makes sense, that's exactly what John would do! Get one guy in the shooting arm, hitting the guy behind that one with a single shot, putting another in the one behind, and one in the last guy before throwing the last guy to the ground and putting one last shot into him. It all makes sense!
Just saw JW4 in IMAX, totally worth it, another great one. I liked the Dragons Breath scene in particular because of how it was shot. Just epic artistic gunfu action movies 🍿
Center Axis Relock is only meant for shooting at distances where you're more worried about weapon retention than accuracy. When the target is within arms reach. Also works ok when you're in a vehicle, either fighting within the vehicle or shooting through a window right next to you.
It's also designed for shooters only wearing soft armor or no armor. Usually you want to present the strike face of your armor to the threat, but if you have no armor, you want to reduce your exposed surface area. So turning your shoulders sideways makes you a smaller target. I was trained it a bit when I did private security contracting many moons ago. It isn't their fault, but Mr. Thumb and the crew weren't really doing it right. A lot of shooters trying it out emphasize on angling the weapon, which isn't the end goal, but is just a byproduct of the way you're supposed to grip the weapon in CAR. Hardest thing for most shooters learning it is how close you hold the weapon to your face. Had an instructor demonstrate CAR with a desert eagle and still had it just a few inches from his face, when you nail the grip down, recoil is basically nonexistent no matter what you're shooting. But can be tough to get over the instinct to keep the explodey bangey thing away from your peepers.
@@Maverickib yeah that's a pet peeve of mine, people with zero armor on shooting fully square on to the enemy. For 100s of years, people have trained to shoot with their shoulder facing the enemy to reduce the chance of getting hit. Seems pretty legit to me.
@@moonasha yes you present a smaller target when standing sideways to the threat but your vital organ hit zones don't change much. All the areas you make smaller are basically non vital areas. So it's better to square up and get accurate, quick follow up shots and fast target transitions then it is to spend time using an altered stance just to reduce the chance of getting hit in the shoulder. And if hit in a vital zone while standing sideways the bullet will have a higher chance of doing fatal damage. Standing sideways all your fatal organs are aligned. One bullet could hit both lungs and the heart. Or both kidneys. The only use for car like the other guy explained is shooting in confined spaces or where the threat is extremely close. Even with the threat extremely close I'd prefer to point shoot with one hand from the hip while using my other hand to push the threat back or deflect his weapon. But using car just to make yourself a smaller target has minimal benefits.
- Extremely close - When no frontside hard armor - Seated position - Weapon retention - More ergonomic grip Just another tool in the toolbox, RIP *Paul Castle*
@@brandens7615 In theory, but presenting a smaller profile, while moving, while the threat is _also_ stressed, while the threat is _also_ being shot at dramatically decreases their hit probability, and it's also less awkward to move while shooting from the CAR position than a frontside position, since standing still is a death sentence and squaring with both arms hinders your movement.
It’s me the pistol guy and they said that John wick never used the CAR system though military and former special forces who viewed it said he was firing in a point shooting stance angling the gun so he doesn’t need to waste time adjusting the sights in place instead using purely his eye to place the shots supposedly has been proven effective in close quarters situations
LOL this was freakin' great! Love it! And CAR is useful in very confined spaces. You don't always have the luxury of being able to present your pistol with extended arms.

Cody = goat! Roots are most important! I'm christian myself, but if you incorporate any ethics & moral code (well, except jihadi type of nonsense) to your kids socialization = you're raising good people & citizens.
💯
Ngl the best part of an already fire video ✝️
Just if anyone was wondering the 2011 pit viper is $7000 dollars and the gen 12 is $4600
Gen 12 is about 3k all said and done
One of the reasons why I love watching your videos is because of the sheer amount of fun you guys are clearly having in every one. Your charisma & jokes are infectious & everything is shot really well. Keep up the great work guys.
Garand Thumb: *Makes a video about John Wick*
Also Garand Thumb: *completely forgets about the Black Suit*
he also forgot to say 'yeahhhhhh' when he got asked if he was angry
No spoilers, but watch JW4, you'll know why he wears a blue suit

Makeup artist did an unbelievable job to make garand wick reality
Make up so good I thought this bloody knuckles were from beating up Micah
p sure the face stuff is literally just stickers lmao
thanks! we had Paigosity do my makeup / hair / gashes and bloody knuckles. She killed it
He looks like Tommy Wiseau from The Room 😂
“I’m thinking I’m back.”
the lighting and filming of the john wick scene was great. nice work on the filming and editing. also love this channel
This line up is the greatest, having all three of you is always hilarious, loved it.
Make this the channel XD
Admin is so funny without even trying. The star trek line had me in tears.
The fact that garand realized the analogy as well is what got me
I would rank Cody’s dad advice among the top 3 I’ve ever heard on this channel. Good dad right there
Hell yeah. I'd have to agree
It's difficult for a lot of people to understand until the have gone through with it.
Agreed!
Amen
That man is a hero. Full stop.
That first bill drill had me cracking up! Definitely had me for a split second.😂
I can never unsee Garand Wick.. he will forever haunt my memories.
The intro is very satisfying!
He looks more like Nicholas Cage than Keanu, hah.
Idk who said it but "a stance is a snapshot of a moment in time"
CAR, Weaver, Isosceles etc. They all belong, and a good shooter should know and be able to apply all 3
Shoutout to Micah, cinematography has really been stepping it up to the next level recently
Always trying to push the envelope. Thank you brother!
Agreed, and the action scenes really add a lot to the videos. Mike and Micah make a great team. I would love to start seeing some kind of short films or miniseries on the horizon
Cody has been my favorite dad advice. Based AF 👌🏻🇺🇸
LGBTQ braver than military
Facts!
It was "mega based"
The Pit Viper holds 21 rounds.
What John Wick needed was 21 rounds of armor piercing ammo.
Same for the AR rifles and shotguns.
Just like in the 3rd film.
the 21 rounds are for 21 bad guys
That scene in the 3rd movie really frustrated me, it made for a good fight scene but I can't believe out of that whole armory for fighting a ton of elite, heavily armored combatants he'd pick a 16 inch MPX
What JW needs is some damn ear pro.
@@Pattamatt1998 And only used TTI competition race guns, too. Weird.
@@kosherbeefcake Almost like it was product placement.
so strange to see a Garandthumb video without Garandthumb. Super stoked that you guys managed to get John Wick to come on the show though, so awesome!!!
I want a John Wick video game. It would be outright chaos.
It kind of exists; John Wick Hex.
Maximum Action is just John Wick but not named that.
Supposedly they were talking about it I wanna say a year ago they haven’t confirmed it yet but they’re wanting to
Idk but Ready or not is pretty realistic and can get super modded. Also has a disco map
John Wick 4 gave me game vibes definitely. One long campaign with all the movies would have such a good climax at part 4
That Dad advice was on point. Every young man needs to hear that
I love the evolution of Flannel Daddy, the channel has now truly embraced the vibe of a bunch of bros having a good time at the range. Love it!
Lolol, the thumbnail for this video is absolutely sensational!!! 😂😂😂
One of the best dad advice. Mad respect for him to come out saying that on a large platform.
Agreed; the only real dad advice I've heard here so far.
Absolutely! Big props to that dude
Mega based
Cody is spot on!
Solid. Bless him. Makes me wanna spend the money on the shotty since he said it
The fact that you can put out a video, have fun and not be too serious while still putting out quality information makes me wish I could be on that rangewith you guys. Damn good video to start my day. Thanks gents. Keep em coming. Time to get back to the work bench, gotta build something worthy of such a time.
Where you been? It’s literally all Thumb does.
The production quality is just the cream of the crop👌 nice work guys. Those guns are superb
Dude… the videography in these is stunning. You and Admin are the best in the business! Love you guys❤
They probably went with dragon's breath to disable the armored suits every assassin wears in the movie, since they showed one catching on fire when testing one of their shotguns.
Aside from that though it really does just look cool.
I can't believe Keanu Reeves plays Garand thumb in John Wick 4
I love that GT doesn't mind looking kinda silly in those costumes, confidence like that is very charming.
For a split second I fully believed flannel daddy pulled the trigger that fast. I watched it and said "yeah, that makes sense" to myself.
I think that's gotta be the best opening(production wise) you've ever done. Y'all are doing great with the filming and prouction lately, but this was just *chef's kiss
Now do the carousel of death shoot out! I want to see Micah trying to dodge cars while hitting targets
My guess for the Dragon's Breath (besides just looking cool) was an attempt at someway to get around his ballistic suit
You can't shoot through his suit, but you can still burn em out
The Dragón Breath wasnt that realistic, but neither the bulletproof Suits tho..
There are some 00 Buck backed dragon’s breath rounds so maybe that might help haha
it wont set you on fire dumshxt
Them trigger pulls are so fast and smooth I can't even see it. Definitely professional 😬

@@poster5887 I’m definitely not brave enough to have a surgeon cut organs off my body, lol.
"Really really fast semi-automatic" I see what you did there... Really impressive trigger pulls!
European here, can you tell me what he means? Did they modify it to be full auto?
I knew all that Time Crisis playtime would be worth something one day.
@@Badpak. It's an automatic shotgun, but they aren't allowed to admit that on commie-tube, I mean youtube, so they joked about having a "really fast semi-auto trigger" : )
@@Badpak. basically anytime you hear an American yootoober say "really fast semi auto" they're trying to hint to you its a full auto, but they must say that bc if they say full auto yootoob will take it down. same with them saying a 30 round mag is anything less than 30, if they say it's actually thirty it'll get taken down.
Thank for taken the time on these guns..
GREAT JOB!!
"How does your lawyer feel about this video?" Best line of this video.
Easily some of the best work on the channel EVER. Instant classic/10
1000% LOVED that dad advice. Best ever!
Cody is the man! Well said sir at the end! Thanks grand for letting great folks be apart of your channel.
“Mom I want John Wick!”
“We have John Wick at home.”
The one time at home beats the real thing.
Mike finally got to live out his fantasy in this intro of having a full head of hair
The fact that you went full John wick look is pretty legendary 👏
In that first CAR drill, Admin getting the overpenetration makes sense, that's exactly what John would do! Get one guy in the shooting arm, hitting the guy behind that one with a single shot, putting another in the one behind, and one in the last guy before throwing the last guy to the ground and putting one last shot into him. It all makes sense!
Petition to have Keanu Reeves on the channel for a challenge. Keanu picks the weapons, GT picks the drills/conditions.
❤
That very audible double click before he mag dumped the Gen12 made me quite moist.
Just saw JW4 in IMAX, totally worth it, another great one. I liked the Dragons Breath scene in particular because of how it was shot. Just epic artistic gunfu action movies 🍿
Gunfu!!!

Solid dad advice from Cody. American needs more good dads.
- Extremely close
- When no frontside hard armor
- Seated position
- Weapon retention
- More ergonomic grip
Just another tool in the toolbox, RIP *Paul Castle*
@@brandens7615 In theory, but presenting a smaller profile, while moving, while the threat is _also_ stressed, while the threat is _also_ being shot at dramatically decreases their hit probability, and it's also less awkward to move while shooting from the CAR position than a frontside position, since standing still is a death sentence and squaring with both arms hinders your movement.
Loved Cody’s message at the end 🙏🏼
I'm not sure this could be any better....nice work guys! Awesome guns!

The scene that cuts to Mike just ripping down the targets has me dead 😂😂😂
Everyone asks what the John Wick Guns are.
Garand Thumb asks how they are.
The hero we need.
This is golden! It's always interesting to watch Garand Thumb keeping up with current scenarios and events!
"You're going to like the way you shoot. I guarantee it."
- The Garranded Thumb
It’s me the pistol guy and they said that John wick never used the CAR system though military and former special forces who viewed it said he was firing in a point shooting stance angling the gun so he doesn’t need to waste time adjusting the sights in place instead using purely his eye to place the shots supposedly has been proven effective in close quarters situations
LOL this was freakin' great! Love it! And CAR is useful in very confined spaces. You don't always have the luxury of being able to present your pistol with extended arms.
truth!
I always thought it was more about denying opportunities for enemies to grab/snatch your gun.
@@GarandThumb can you do more CAR drills in future videos. You did awesome.
