    Track Six of Public Life
    LYRICS
Once I thought I’d move to Nashville
    Where everyone’s better than me
And I’ve heard L.A. is nice this time of year
Before it breaks into the sea
You’ll see them dancing out at parties
Or drinking smoothies made of grass
And with my many teeth I can't help but smile
You know, a picture makes it last
And now the evening’s Hudson River
    Or without glasses on, Monet
Oh lord, what kind of idiot
Would go to work this time of day?
You’ll see us dancing out at parties
And drinking smoothies made of grass
And with my many teeth I can't help but smile
You know, a picture makes it last
If this is the new religion
Then where does that leave me?
    I’m a zealot and a hypocrite
Just like I’m supposed to be
And now I’m shopping for my groceries
And wondering what it’s like to die
And now I’m wondering if we ever will
When we’re all data in the sky?
You’ll see us dancing out at parties
And drinking smoothies made of grass
And with my many teeth I can't help but smile
You know, a picture makes it last
If this is the new religion
Then where does that leave me?
    I’m a zealot and a hypocrite
Just like I’m supposed to be
If this is the new religion
Then where does that leave me?
    I’m a zealot and a hypocrite
Just like I’ve been told to be
In his sophomore album, Public Life, Joshua Lee Turner weighs his life as a touring musician against a newfound appreciation for time spent at home. Turner embraces imperfection and limitation, choosing to record the album almost entirely to 4-track cassette and producing, mixing, and filming it in his apartment. With stripped-down arrangements, intimate lyrics, and virtuosic guitar playing, Public Life blends 1970s sounds with 2020 contemplations of home, friendship, work, and social media.

I feel like with this album, Josh has fully explored and found his very own style. To me, it's somewhere in between The Beatles, Bowie and Paul Simon. I feel honored to be alive while Josh is making music.

I'm a retired instrumental music teacher (public schools) and all my life I've enjoyed Pop/Rock/Blues/Funk, etc. for riffs/chords, etc but never got into lyrics....mainly because I was too shy to sing (dropped my vocal certification in college!) But now I'm alone with the blues and been singing along with tunes and enjoying your originals & covers for the last year, and you are my 'lyrics' guy...from the ground up...so meaningful!

Your music is so refreshing compared to anything else new out there presently. There’s an feeling of warmth and genuineness in your songs and the arrangements - they feel like an old friend, yet they are unique. The feeling I get when listening to them is similar to how I feel when listening to artists like Paul Simon, Bread, the Beatles, but the sound and the songs are uniquely you! Brilliant! Please, don’t allow modern producers/record companies to try and change this!!
