Be different if a guy had a full time mechanic hey!!! Half the fun of being a miner is fixing stuff , I get very bored when things go smooth out at the site.
these kinda videos are the only one I enjoy watching anymore rather than network tv on my very little down time, other than Bluey that one is fun to watch with the littles
@@TheMiningChannel absolutely loving watching the channel. Glad it’s you in that cold and not me, but still a little jealous you’re out there doing it, while I work a regular job…… keep ‘em coming, can’t wait until you start moving dirt.
@Jeff Holmes I'm stoked you are enjoying it. I can't wait to share what goes on at the site. I have a lot of super entertaining video ideas on top of just washing rocks.
Sorry I'm a day late, not recieving notifications the last week or two. The last few years before retirement I spent alot of time working with steamfitters instead of the sprinklerfitters. Much of that time was spent prepping pipe and steel for the welders, so this is very interesting to me. I always wished I had learned to melt metal into actual usable things, so helping the welders was extremely fun to me. Keep making these great vids and we will keep watching and growing your channel. Peace.
Hey MP! That seems to happen to channels that only upload every 2 weeks for some reason...it doesn't put the videos out to the feed as much. I don't mind the fab and prep like you used to do but welding for days straight is so boring!!!
I am amazed at how strong a weld is. In my mind, that can never hold, with the forces that come upon it. But it does. Hence my amazement ;-)) This was fun to see!
The function of course is important for the wear plates but putting the wear plates also looks cool!! Got a transformers vibe to it. Metal man with cool metal amor. Manly stuff! Great work bother. Keep it up.
Yup they definitely wear out when I was in the oil fields in Texas installing new 3” poly lines for newly drilled wells we had to dig with the backhoe as opposed to the trenchers sometimes one day In really hard ground I went to take a scoop the the teeth and the bottom of the bucket peeled back like a banana lol pressed it back in place and welded the heck out of it. It took hours thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼
Hahahah the ol' peel and stick. I wanted to mention on the video but forgot for people to pay attention to the buckets on Gold-Rush. Some of the buckets they run are literally half gone lol. They start off nice in the beginning of the season and just go to hell by mid season lol.
@@TheMiningChannel yup I used to watch those shows but a couple times they showed nuggets in the sluice and then when they do weigh ins there’s only fine gold and I figured out they don’t show all the gold they get and add to much drama
Sure wish I had your sources for scrap metal here in SE Alaska! No such thing according to the price list here, only lists new and "broke in". Price is the same take it or leave it. Pretty much the same for shipping. Starts high and then goes into orbit. Only time steel is a deal is if you are selling it to the yard, then it is worth a penny or two a pound. Bought two sixty inch pieces of 1" x 1" x 1/8" and it was fifty dollars.
Love your work mate I'm busy getting my gear ready for next season as well for different reasons tho - cyclone season and 40 deg plus every day in the north west of Australia cheers Tom
Thanks a lot Tom!!!! Yeah I would not be able to handle that weather.... I struggle when it is 25 out hahah. Plus my fair skin and half ginger scenario would just burn me to a crisp.
Love your videos... Im also a miner in Finland, will post some videos soon from prospecting new claims. I hope I would have the technical know how that you have!
You have more guts than I do I don't like being out there when it's 10 below level in 20 Are we talking Celsius or degrees Didn't realize how much wear material actually was on those buckets And it's always better to do it when you don't need it right now then in middle's mining season when you lose production
The 450 bucket takes a beating all summer long, I usually have to do it again mid-season with this high compacted sandy meterial I dig. The 200 size buckets are usually every 3-5 years since they just excavate loose meterial.
Great video. Skills with the welder are a necessity for anyone thinking of running a machine op. You are using flux core in your suitcase- sure doesn't seem like you have much for a slag coating on your welds?
I agree, any miner has to be a good mechanic and a decent welder to keep going. Mechanics are so freaking expensive these days... I am just using a 70s-6 mig wire. I typically use a dual shield mig/flux core wire for this stuff but I had a spool of 70s-6 kicking around.
@@TheMiningChannel Ah ha, which also explains why you didn't weld it out. Thanks again, your quality of videos is excellent and gives a really good look at the other 80% it takes to have a mine. It is not just go dig and get gold.
-20 is my max for working outside!!!! I was going in the shop every 10 minutes to warm up hahah. I don't know how those heavy duty mechanics do it up north working on iron..... not my kind of fun lol.
You guys have a different kind of cold there, -20 feels like -30. Here it feels more like -10. I prefer working in the cold instead of being stuck in my shop all the time. I really dislike the smell of welding and grinding discs lol.
@@TheMiningChannel ya wind chill sucks, it really drives down the temp... I would imagine it would be a big pain in the ass to do thise kinds of repairs in a shop much easier outside and ya way less fumes
Deffinatly a good job well done and essential maintenance during the off season saves loads of downtime during mining season. 1 question is your ground not hard enough to warrant Tiger teath on your buckets or are these just your cleaning/scouping buckets?
I really wish I has a digging bucket for the 450, If I did have one I would totally be running tiger teeth. The material is hard but that 450 has so much power it chews through it like butter. I have priced out used buckets for the machine and it is out of my budget right now. I used to run serrated edges on the 450 bucket which worked really well but I would go through them every 2 months. The 200 size buckets last me about 4 years before I have to do any work to them since they just dig in soft meterial and tailings.
@@TheMiningChannel agreed sometimes just by using a bigger machine it negates the need for more specialised buckets or attachments. Good luck for the season
Hey GB, It is fairly easy. The biggest thing is just dialing in the welder to the thickness you are tackling. any cheap welder is good to learn on, it doesn't have to be fancy
I love learning from highly organized thinkers, frugality included. Thanks for letting this old guy learn from your gifts.
Glad you enjoyed it and leatn something from the videos:) I can't wait to get out and start digging some dirt!!
Spend the “downtime” preparing for season. That’s the smart way to run a seasonal business. That and save every penny you can. Great video
For sure!!! Not sure if you noticed yet but I am very cheap lol. If I can repair it I will instead of buying something new. Thanks for watching JPH.
Very quality entertainment. I love the way you explain your methodology and allow us to tag along. Keep it up! Can hardly wait for the spring.
Thanks a lot NSA . Weather is changing here now and the snow is starting to melt!
Best content getting to see how much a miner does in the winter.
