It is kind of tedious but I actually kind of prefer Blender since is a tool I've used before. I'm currently using it for this exact same style, you just gotta get a hang of it. Plus, I think that getting experience in a more specialized software such as Blockbench could be less attractive for a portfolio compared to expercience in a more widely used tool such as Blender.
Kinda cool, just crazy that you even tried to do a game in the first place, the mentality that something you do is worth something (didn't hit me yet, and I am doing creative work etc.)
As someone who started in pygame and has begun working in godot 4 this is really cool to see! If you happen to make any 2d games I would be really interested in seeing your experience and how you transition from pygame to godot. Seeing your adaptability to VR is really making me want to get into 3D stuff now though. Great video!
Blenders definitely an entanglement, especially for low poly models. But the pixelate and scale nodes in the composition editor make it really useful to get a ps1 inspired effect on your models. Usually I go with 0.250 to render the model, and 4.00 for the display in the scale nodes.
I thought that I remembered your name-! Well done with the game creation as well as your success in pavlov and beat saber! :D (I am a Beat Saber nerd myself and have grinded scoresaber for a few years)
The tumbnail was so fun to look at, I immediately recognised your style, but it's in 3d. Also btw the thumbnail screams blockbench lol how did you not use that at first
From what I understand, the main difference is just that texturing is more tedious in Blender. I don't think it's hard to make something look the same.
Something I see developers at my studio doing is they'll invert the view controls in dev and where the headset on their head backwards. SO you can keep it on and move your head around but you don't need to look through it
bruh how did i not realise you were hitbloq creator. ive been in the bs community for years and i started watching ur vids today after stumbling across them in youtube recommendations and this is how i finally realised.
Could you make a video on how to make money with programming skills? I live in a shitty third world south American country, and I just wanted to have a better life. I tried everything possible, like freelancing, linkedin, sending my resume to jobs. None of this worked
Okay, about elephant in the room, will the new Mojo programming language that is built on top of Python, to fix the "slow" problems once and for all... the fist language that allows users to name their files with Emojis as an file extension. Will this language take off? Push Python games to main stream for indie developers???
You should consider porting your 2d games to mobile for extra monies. Other than that, yea, I too felt like the people saying VR dev is much harder than regular development were just not good enough as developers for it to be easy. Just like anything in life, you gotta get really really good at something for it to be easy.
Is you come from Python and want to use a game engine, Godot is the go to. It's powerfull and easy to use. Most likely you are never going to be using Unity's and Unreal's most advanced features, so Godot is very good
This is very impressive. Though you should play Half-Life Alyx even if you are not a half-life guy. Maybe it'll give you some ideas for your VR game. Listen to the Half-Life Alyx developer commentaries too, they gave some solid advice for VR development.
I would really love to get both into Godot and VR game dev. Would it be possible that you share the source file and project files from your game once you are done? Or some part of it. Of course only if you dont intend to sell it and only do it for the competition
FWIW I also develop with a 1060 6gb and honestly a standalone native build for the quest 2 outperforms my PC (in everything except post processing)! I regularly hit 120hz as long as I keep the lighting simple/postfx off. My PC struggles to hit 120hz, no matter what the shader complexity 😭
It must be nice to live in the administrative first world. In Europe if whould take 3 months and loads of papers to be able to cash in from making games.
DaFluffyPotato may you pls make tutorial about making levels or better said maps for the game? I looked at your json files from your previous game and they look messy. I guees you used a program or something to make it? I am stuggling at making map for my metroidvania game.
Hey there! How did you advertise your game on steam to get that many sales? I have a game I’m developing and my biggest weakness is definitely the sales/business aspect. Thanks for the great video!
Proper 2D is completely different. If you meant 3D, but on a 2D display rather than VR, it can be done. Games like No Man's Sky have ported successfully to VR, but typically games made intentionally for VR are better experiences.
I just found out about Blockbench, so I'll probably be trying that instead of Blender soon. Texturing is quite tedious in Blender.
yes I hate UV mapping for pixel art
Can you make a new tutorial with all advanced topics like raycasting, graphics, etc into one video and start from basic?Do you have any paid courses?

I had no idea that existed, thank you
I immediately thought about Blockbench once I saw your models lol
I love how well your art style translates into VR!
omg its you
this. pixelated lowpoly artstyles have so much potential and are criminally underused in VR
The games looking pretty cool! Pixel art in VR is always a cool aesthetic.
the retro style is always pretty cool
Awesome!
More Godot 4 contents please!
I'm really looking forward to your VR journey o/
Awesome video as always
Nice work! great to see another Godot VR game starting to take form :)
Yes finally. That is the same thing I want to do currently.
I swear I just get more impressed everytime you do something new
Wow cool stuff i think the pixel art goes really nicely in vr!
Kinda cool, just crazy that you even tried to do a game in the first place, the mentality that something you do is worth something (didn't hit me yet, and I am doing creative work etc.)
jeez! it's amazing what you're capable of doing!
I am really impressed by your work !!! keep it up

3:28 damn, that's one hell of a commit history
Man , looking at your archery game , it's satisfying to watch ..
very cool the video of the game at the end, good job
Instant sub. I just finished the video and it was so informative and entertaining.
As someone who started in pygame and has begun working in godot 4 this is really cool to see!

I'm still using Pygame for 2D stuff
Blender Guru's Donut tutorial is 🔥🔥🔥

You're awesome. Great work and thanks for sharing your experience.
I haven't watched the video but I'm glad you're making videos using godot
Good luck! Thank you for sharing!
DaFluffyPotato commited the same crime twice in the span of 2 years: he used godot 4 (Thats just a joke, ofc)
Does this mean Godot 4 tutorials?
BTW really liked this style of video.
no tutorials at least for now. I still barely know what I'm doing
da potaeto is on da VR now :)
"Unless its a Questie" (derogatory) great. Good taste
let's go Godot

holy shit, ure so talented :O
Nobody’s mentioned it yet, but nice background music 👍
I can see a lot of Cave Story influence in your games in general, actually
Thanks for choosing Godot.
So cool! So fun! Can't wait to see more!

I guess that helps with the screen problem, but it's still a weight on your head.
Love the Arceus plush
super inspiring. i want to do this too
godot lets go dot
nice one
Nothing like Potato literally using Pokemon God to help him test VR games lol.
Godot?? Lets gooo!!!
subbing wow , todat i was thinking can i make a vr game. after watchjng this, i think so !
very nice :)

Epic!!!
There's a setting in the oculus debug tool to disable to proximity sensor

Finallyyy! ❤
8:00 at least in Unity they actually do this in an official VR tutorial to animate a trigger.
I put tape on the sensor when I want to keep it active.

I played it when it came out. It was great.
Gonk :]
Wow, good progress in 3D and VR from scratch. How much time did it take?
Learning blender was a good chunk of time. Maybe 20 hours in total?
nice , 3d math seems terrifying just started 2d game dev and im already sick of 2d math
I would really love to get both into Godot and VR game dev. Would it be possible that you share the source file and project files from your game once you are done? Or some part of it. Of course only if you dont intend to sell it and only do it for the competition
I always do for stuff I release
1:44 well frick how do you do that? A game that makes money made in a month?
cool

So it's next year... 👀😂
please answer me can i add in app purchase in game made with pygame 😅
Yes, but I don't like them
Of course you're making content about VR, why wouldn't you lol.
Good luck tho, VR seems pretty interesting.

To get the money from the sales? Really? At least you don't have to pay $400 to file your taxes (on top of paying taxes).
@@DaFluffyPotato o that sucks too, I guess is different flavors of f you from government

I probably will in a new Pygame tutorial I'm working on

How did you make the water shader
9:35 no in the future so now theres quest 3
I actually just got one, but I use it with my PC as a PCVR headset.
Where do your game ideas come from? Please make a video on that
Usually from game jam themes
@DaFluffyPotato ok, and how can I become smarter like you?
Are you using gdscript? I'm starting out and I'm leaning on learning gd script instead of c# to simplify things. What would you recomend?
I'm using gdscript (as can be seen in the video)

I don't remember. There are some examples out there. The Godot Discord can also help.

Would it be easier to make a game for 2D and then adapting it for VR or not at all ?
Proper 2D is completely different. If you meant 3D, but on a 2D display rather than VR, it can be done. Games like No Man's Sky have ported successfully to VR, but typically games made intentionally for VR are better experiences.

Hi I’m wanting to start Godot but idk how to code and literally have no experience whatsoever how do you learn gdscript?
