      Honestly, he lost me at 'Han shot first'. Not because Han shot first, but because Han's response in this case to a probable high-speed, experimental imperial warship was 'Let's fight it with our illegally upgraded, frequently malfunctioning, barely cobbled together, _LIGHT FREIGHTER_ ."
      I would expect Han's reaction to the appearance of the Defiant to be 'Oh crap, Chewie, get us out of here!"

      Unless it can slipstream, Han is already long gone for the Defiant to ever catch up with. Defiant also has everything going for it except the bonded armor from a much heavier analog war ship. Crap, The Falcon wastes more energy than 4 Defiant class ships. Talk about a power hog. That's like renting a Uhaul truck that gets 1 mile to the gallon, but runs on browns gas to offset the milage. The weapons on the freiter may hurt an older shuttle that has the less powerful phasers and shield systems. Crap, a Runabout could take the Falcon on and produce out a fair win in the long run if Han does not run. Most Military grade weapons are hybrid particle beam weapons unless going back before old republic's military days. which was a two type plasma hybrid weapons. Notice everything in Star Wars use two or more technologies blended together to do anything. Ion drives are more like Ion enhanced rocket engine systems With some weird electrical induced hyper drive system that seems similar to slipstream or a jump drive. They use deflector and ray shields separately which takes double more power for the same shield power anywhere close to a old Federation ship or shuttle for that matter. Then the unreliability of such a over rigged freighter. Han would have to run or really sweet talk his way out of a bad situation. Poor thing could only take a few hits unless there is something in the bonded armor that phasers cannot break down easily. Even with a tracker, the Defiant would be too far away to follow even at warp 9. I still see that the Federation could just hire Han quite easily. Han is not an engineer, a Federation engineer could figure out analog tech real easily, A Federation Engineer would most likely be able to not only make the Falcon more stable, but also run 25% more energy efficient at the same tech than any ship in the Star Wars universe. No offence to other Star Wars Fans, but Tech is super slow to upgrade in the Star Wars Universe. Crap, They do not even know about a firewall to slow stop fires from spreading. That is crazy sad.

      Honestly, it was movie talk for the watcher. In " world " Han would have just called them the "guns." Even heard talk in 1950's war moves. When they wanted someone killed off, the actor says " blaster him !." So calling pistols and riffles " blaster," is not too much of a stretch.
      Guns were meant cannons mounted on a ship. Hench " Son of a Gun." Or, " I am the rower of my own boat and look at the guns I got on these."
      Over time, pistols were just called guns.
      Honestly, you know what Star Fleet members call their hand held phasers ?

    So I take issue with the assumption that the Falcon's quad lasers are equivalent to other ship mounted weapons. Those guns are more like the mounted guns on WWII bomber planes. Footage of bomber gunners is what Lucas kept referring to when he was filming the scene with Han and Luke. The quad guns are defensive weapons meant to keep fighter craft away (at close range), not offensive weapons like on a warship. The Falcon likely wouldn't be able to damage the Defiant, and given the tracking and targeting abilities of the Defiant, the Falcon wouldn't stand a chance.

    One of the things about the falcon that many forget is it was built to smuggle and run blockades, its superior engines and pilots skill are its true advantage in multiple engagments with the Empire where it was usually RUNNING away! The only reason Lando used it so successfully in the battle of Endor was it had been pimped out with extra power cells and carries a full crew of gunners and engineers for the first time.

      With respect, I've never once heard of the Defiant being referred to as a battlecrusier in the show or movies/books. Not to mention, the Defiant lacks the size to be considered a cruiser. Officially, Starfleet designates the Defiant class as an escort vessel, but unofficially as a warship as per Sisko in the episode when the ship makes its debut. She's "overgunned and overpowered for a ship her size". Small package in terms of size, but undeniably lethal!

      Correct (credit LUG for that bit of canon knowledge for me), and in SW don't they have Hyperspace Ramming? So as a Quantum Torpedo can go to Warp & most ships in ST can take a Quantum Torpedo hit, wouldn't that mean that ST ships have stronger shielding?

      Forgot one thing, Photon Torpedos contain Warp Sustainer Coils so they can be fired when a ST ship is at warp & a Quantum Torpedo has Warp Coils so they can enter Warp when a ST ship is using Impulse Drive or when at warp increase their speed to catch the target. I would have to say the 1st time the Defiant launches Torpedos the Falcon is toast... But, then again the Defiant is a FEDERATION ship & Worf is a Starfleet Officer so wouldn't they hail the Falcon first? And, if they hailed the Falcon wouldn't Worf first try & find a way not to fight if he could help it, but as British Ben said Han fired first... But, wouldn't Chewie, Luke, or Obi-Wan all try & stop him? I mean Luke is a Force Sensitive & as they took off from Tatioine that would mean Obi-Wan was on board, a freaking Jedi Master, & Obi-Wan would have sensed that the Defiant means them no harm & they would have worked things out peacefully & might have even brought in the Federation & their allies to help the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire & as the Defiant came through the Bajorian Wormhole, the Prophits or Worm Hole Aliens had to know what was going on, so they sent the Defiant with Worf in command to help Luke, Obi-Wan, Han, & Chewie resque the Princess... If so Obi-Wan would have used the Jedi Mind Trick on Han to stop him from fighting... As such no battle & the Falcon is saved, & the Defiant helps the Rebels against the Death Star at Yavin... And, don't say that the Prime Directive applies here as that is only for Pre-Space civilizations, & the Rebels & the Galactic Empire are both in space... True end result is that:
      1) The Falcon goes on as before to Alderan, gets tractored by the Death Star.
      2) Worf & a group of either Starfleet Security or MACOs beam aboard the Death Star & create havoc while Han, Luke, Chewie, Obi-Wan, R2-D2, & C3PO all save the Princess.
      3) As Worf & co. create havoc, Darth Vader has to go off & deal with them & thus Obi-Wan & Vader do not have the Light Saber dual & as such Obi-Wan doesn't die.
      4) The Falcon escapes as before, but the Defiant joins them at the Rebel base at Yavin IIII.
      5) Worf gives the Rebels Photon Torpedoes which as British Ben stated are much, much, much more powerful than Photon Torpedoes.
      6) The Rebel 30 Snubfighters launch over 180 Photon Torpedos & the Defiant unloads upon the Death Star with it's Quantum Torpedos & destroys it with Vader on board.
      7) With Obi-Wan still alive, he trains Luke to be a Jedi Knight.
      8) With Vader dead, he cannot take over Cloud City, capture Han, cut off Lukes's hand, tell him he is his father.
      9) When Luke faces off against the Emperor he does it with Obi-Wan & Leia, who is also a Jedi Knight. The Emperor does have a new apprentice, but that aprentice doesn't have the ability, power, or training that Vader does.
      10) The Galactic Empire falls.
      11) The Federation sends advisors to the New Galactic Republic to help them set-up their government. Obi-Wan becomes the Grand Master of the New Jedi Order with Luke & Leia taking Padawans.
      12) The New Order never rises & thus none of the drekish Disney movies...
      Personally I like the why I plotted this, please let me know if I made any mistakes or errors... Thank you...
      Btw, British Ben, you forgot about Obi-Wan being on board the Falcon, didn't you? You had Luke taking off from his homeworld, but Obi-Wan was on board the Falcon at the same time... A rare mistake for you... I would expect this from American Ben, being a bloody EVIL Sith Lord, but you are a Jedi Master who went undercover within the Empire's Navy to feed intelligence to the Rebel Alliance... Please don't make this mistake again...
      Oh, & when are you, British Ben & American Ben going to have your Light Saber dual? I know you will beat him as you are a Jedi & the Jedi always beat the Sith in the end...

      Just to note regarding shields, the Millennium Falcon's shields aren't normal for a ship of its size. It's basically running capital-ship grade shield generators, likely those comparable to a Raider or CR-90 corvette. As a result, its shields are far stronger than the average for Star Wars.
      So, in most cases, yes, Star Trek has the stronger shields, but the Millennium Falcon's are a LOT stronger than the norm for Star Wars and might even be comparable to Star Trek shields.
      And yes, I don't get why the Defiant didn't try to hail the Falcon. Even if Han decided to shoot first and ask questions later, I'm sure the Defiant would attempt to hail after an initial volley.

      Imperial tactics vs Federation tactics would help. Imperials wouldn't hesitate to just exit hyperspace, fire a fully charged ion, grab with its multiple tractor beams, then pummel the now powerless Defiants engines with turbolasers and large concussion missiles while the TIE bombers would prioritize the engines as well before the Defiant knew there was even a fight happening.
      It weirdly goes down to if either side knew a fight was even happening and if plot armor is allowed. Remember, in a proper fight, you'd lose Riker, Data and Spock, to name a few. SW would lose nobody, really. In reality, the ISD would probably mistake the Defiant with a pleasure ship (not meant for combat) and just follow out of the principle of the Defiant being unarmed. Look at how the weapons from both franchises are set up. Are we even certain the Empire would know those weird things were even guns?!

    • @jimmefz3328

      @@nicholasyost8400 Except the Imperials can't track in hyper space so they would have no way of knowing they are even there. Even if they did they would have to come out right on top of them to be in range . Defiant's shields would instantly be up and even if not it's armor can more then take a few hits. Tractor beams also won't work since the defiant was designed to fight the Borg who are big on it's use. But lets say they grabbed it with the TB that would mean a big hole in the IST's shield that the Defiant could teleport a torpedo strait to the bridge through.
      most likely scenario, ISD comes out of hyperspace just out of range of it's weapons. Def detects them and attempts to communicate. Not one for talking the ISD prepares to open fire which is immediately detected by the Def causing them to raise shields and make evasive maneuvers. Firing its cannons the ISD scores a glancing blow which is absorbed by the Def's shields. The Def's computers have now analyzed the ISD weapons capabilities and have realized their much shorter range. So the Def moves out of range and positions itself to the rear firing phasers and torpedoes to disable ISD's engines. once the Def succeeds (and it will they have superior targeting 10x the firing range as well as being more maneuverable and faster at sublight speeds, not to mention the ability to fight in warp) they will again attempt to communicate.

      @@jimmefz3328 Episode 8 The TIEs could track in hyperspace while blind-jumping. Just look for dark shadows and exit accordingly. Tracking in hyperspace is pretty old, that's why SW has so many droids.
      Disney canon:
      Large objects in realspace cast "mass shadows" in hyperspace, so hyperspace jumps necessitated very precise calculations.[11] Without those, a vessel could fly right through a star or another celestial body.[4] Because of the danger, there existed predetermined hyperspace routes which interstellar travelers could take. The discovery of a new, safe hyperspace route could play a pivotal role in war, as it would allow naval forces to move faster unbeknownst to their adversaries.[12]
      Borg tractor beam is interesting:
      The Borg favored the use of a considerably more advanced tractor beam when engaging in combat. The Borg beam was capable of rapidly draining a vessel's shields while holding the vessel in place, rendering it virtually helpless against the cutting beam that it was often used in conjunction with. Furthermore, the sheer size of the Borg cube permitted the tractor beam to be used with considerable effectiveness against even ships as large as the USS Enterprise-D. They also had the ability to utilize tractor beams at warp velocities. (TNG: "Q Who"; DS9: "Emissary"; VOY: "Scorpion")
      Defiant story:
      In 2373, the Defiant is part of a Starfleet task force that tries to stop the Borg in the Battle of Sector 001, as seen in Star Trek: First Contact. While many of the Federation starships are destroyed early in the engagement, the Defiant manages to continue fighting the Borg Cube as it approaches Earth. However, by then it is shieldless and weaponless, so its commanding officer Lieutenant Commander Worf orders the crew to prepare for ramming speed. This kamikaze action is prevented when the Enterprise arrives and draws Borg fire away, while also beaming Worf and the other surviving crew off of the stricken Defiant. The Defiant is left severely damaged and adrift but the Enterprise's crew assure Worf that it can be salvaged. An early screenplay draft called for the Defiant to be destroyed, but Deep Space Nine executive producer Ira Steven Behr objected to the destruction of his show's ship and so the idea was dropped.[3]
      However that was not the entire question you asked.
      In 2375, the Breen destroyed the USS Defiant during the Second Battle of Chin'toka. The battle marks the first time the Breen use their energy-dampening weapon.
      A major battle which followed, known as the Second Battle of Chin'toka, was won by the Dominion thanks to a unique Breen device, a kind of energy dampening weapon which could completely drain all the main power systems of a starship.
      The weapon was encountered by Federation forces when the Breen entered the Dominion War as allies of the Dominion in 2375, at the Second Battle of Chin'toka. Since allied ships had never encountered the weapon before, it was especially effective against them. The weapon worked by draining the energy of targeted ships, disabling their engines, weapons, and shields, thus making them easy targets for conventional weapons. Among the vessels lost to the weapon was the USS Defiant. (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil") The Dominion had been in the process of retrofitting all Jem'Hadar vessels with the weapon. (DS9: "Tacking Into the Wind")
      (yes, ion weapons work)
      However, this was not the entire question you asked as you brought up a question almost no one asks: Would negotiations work?
      The proper answer is YES.
      Realistically speaking, you brought up "again attempt to communicate" when there was never a first chance to begin with but you did ask the proper question of would negotiations ever happen. As the Defiant, to SW logic, would have no weapons, the Defiant would just look like a civilian ship. Yes, the Federation would be confused by the SW logic but the Defiant was built to look like an exploration vessel so that alone should prevent all "accidents". Since no threat is being brought forth by the Defiant, a tractor beam might be used but extremely unlikely do anything since it's not a weapon and Federation protocols would not see a fight incoming. Since the Federation are about bartering and explorations, most likely maps would be traded since ST are from the Outer Rim (this would be a huge advancement to the Empire) and ST would get SW maps (very detailed and saves the Federation years of searching.) This would be the most realistic scenario.
      What do you mean the Empire doesn't talk?
      Imperial codes must be followed:
      Form INS-776-TX
      Form DKS-77-MA(n)
      Security Code DV5

    When it comes to discussing which tech is better between Star Trek and Star Wars it comes down to how they are operated and designed. Star Wars weapons are designed around WW2 aesthetics, gunners manually targeting and firing large turbolasers on mechanical turrets, using screens of fighters to counter enemy fighters. In the movies we don't see any anti fighter tech on any ships as they weren't designed in WW2 and hence don't belong to the aesthetic. Also don't forget that while Star Wars has a history of 10k+ years their weapons and defensive technology seems to stagnating with random leaps forward every time the Sith come around.
    Star Trek weapons are based on the continued progression of current weapon systems. Fire and forget torpedoes of various types and yields, ever increasing defensive shielding. variable output energy weapons, armor designed to dissipate fire. Basically they are always upgrading. When you look at tech progression in Star Trek, by the 29th century Star Fleet has mastered the ability to travel through time, monitor the temporal timeline, correct the timeline, wield weapons capable of destroying a target at the subatomic level. That less then 800 years of space travel to humans.
    In a fight between the Defiant and the Falcon it would be no contest. Falcon loses based on tech base. WW2 inspired weapons and tech vs modern progressive tech and they lose. Defiant vs ISD the Defiant still wins. Larger ships have a hard time fighting a smaller ship. Also Star Trek ships travel at 1/4 the speed of light at full impulse, that's 269,810,000 km/h, we are never told how fast ships move in normal space in Star Wars but if we were to assume that their unit of measurement is MGLT and a tie fighter can go 100 MGLT, if we assume that Mega is 1 million and divide the speed of light by 1 million, 1 MGLT would equal 299.79 meters/sec or 983.56 feet/s. At 100 MGLT a Tie Fighter is going 107,925 km/h. This in as assumption on the Star Wars side as their units of measure are never given. So the Defiant is infinitely faster then the the standard fighter used in Star Wars and faster then anything the gunners on a ISD are used to firing. Star Trek ships are just more maneuverable then Star Wars ships, since Star Wars is based in WW2 tech.
    I love both series as I'm a sci-fi fanatic. However in this match-up Star Trek wins just on tech basis simply because Star Wars is grounded in WW2 fight style. Now put any universe against the Warhammer 40k universe and Warhammer 40k wins all the time.

We see this when Picard kills two drones with a Tommy gun in First Contact. Also remember that Imperial naval weaponry is designed to aid in planetary exterminatus. We also have to remember that that naval ships use void shields that basically displace weapons fire that they cant absorb into the Immaterium. Also we need to remember that Star Trek is based on tech 500 years into our future while 40k is 38k years in the future. Yeah this was a pretty silly question. The Defiant would chew up the Falcon in seconds. A better question might be "How many star destroyers would the Defiant take out before being severely damaged?" Seriously...we've seen the Falcon take a direct hit from a star destroyer's main bank; it may have disabled their rear shields but there was minimal damage to the Falcon. The Defiant...some of the best shields in the Federation + ablative armor...the Defiant could take several glancing hits from a star destroyer and probably several direct hits before getting significant damage. The biggest problem would be how to cause enough damage to something that big to disable or destroy it. Though I'm thinking several quantum torpedoes, fired up their rear engine exhausts would do a Lot of damage.

    Also defiant can fight at light speed up to Warp 9. The falcon can reach ‘.5 past light speed’ which we can assume means warp 1.1ish. Anything more it needs hyperspace to get away where it can’t fight. Also her ablative armour can probably withstand the plasma from tubolasers. Assuming they can get through regenerative shields.

  • @pgwchaos
    @pgwchaos 6 років тому +12

    I really don't think there would be a fight. I really don't think Han would fight a ship like the USS Defiant (he would retreat and warn the rebels), also the USS Defiant would attempt some amount of communications. So the situation would be defused (with probably a lot of confusion on why Basic and English are pretty much the same).
    But if they do fight, It would be fairly one sided. I love the Millennium Falcon; however it is pretty much an armed freighter, the USS Defiant is a warship, while the Falcon have an edge on speed, the Defiant does have a tractor beam which probably would be able level that advantage. They probably could beam a few quantum torpedo on board the Falcon too (since they do have O'Brien on board), that would put an end to the fight quickly. (That tactic probably would take out an Star Destroyer too)

    • @Revan-vk2ld
      @Revan-vk2ld 6 років тому

      PGW Chaos yet everyone who says that forget Star Wars has shields to and that transporters have trouble going through heavy armor or just a lot of Rock on a planet that tactic won't work on Star Wars ships very often

    • @TheDjbz
      @TheDjbz 6 років тому

      Star wars does have shields, and assuming they also block the transporters like trek ones do (although that can be overcome at certain tech levels- the Dominion could do it early on in Ds9) the beam the torpedo onto the ship tactic wouldn't work.
      Still though Trek ships have way better accuracy with their weapons. And the ability to detect vessels and fight while at FTL speeds that would just make a mockery of star wars ships. (Even though they could never catch up with a hyperspace travelling star wars ship) any ship traveling at sublight speeds could just be obliterated with torpedoes without ever knowing what hit them.

    • @Revan-vk2ld
      @Revan-vk2ld 6 років тому

      TheDjbz acutely Star Wars ships have ridiculous speed the low atomsphere speeds are pitifull have you seen the bloody amount of Gs they can and in the show ships in Star Wars have been seen to go to a planets moon and back in Seconds not even at max and while true accuracy is not the best people tend to think all weapons are manually aimed and there not most Star Wars weapons atleast the heavy weapons are on turrets on the hull and for the Star Trek ftl thing it is not used often because your already moving at super fast speeds fighting in warp is different then shooting at something not in warp while in warp it's just not likely to work when it does it's just luck or the power of plot and not to mention Star Wars unlike Star Trek has point to defense for anti missles and while not as maneuverable they are WAY tougher in terms of durability excluded fighters and freighters that just outclass everything and for accuracy they make it up with fireing rate and power per shot they can shoot really quick unlike Star Trek weapons witch don't fire as fast

    • @vivomega3937
      @vivomega3937 6 років тому

      Quantum torpedoes are far more powerful than you give them credit, also while cloaked they can scan any sw ship and find weakness and or a way to bypass their shields all together.
      As to trouble beaming through thick armor it just comes down to reconfigering the transporters enough to go through heavy armor.
      But we are talking about a frighter not a isd.

    • @Revan-vk2ld
      @Revan-vk2ld 6 років тому

      valor0dragoon honestly I don't doubt the power and from my point of view the reason they don't make a super massive explosion is that explosion is just minimized with a magnetic field to not destroy everything but the same goes for Star Wars weapons that's why sometimes they don't do much like in rebels or destroy oceans and for the transporters yes they can do that but that takes time and that is a luxury you don't have when fighting somthing with superior firepower and you will have to get past the shield that works diffrent to your own and for cloaks if your fighting a large vessel it will just firing in all directions one hit and your done since you don't have shields when cloaked and Star Wars has cloaking devices as well and ways to find them a certain admiral trench can easily track them searching for magnetic signatures that can't be cloaked or hidden however not many people know that can work so meh but not every ship has a bloody cloaking device however Star Trek ships have many weakness such as a warp nacelle that if hit can basically destroy the entire ships not mention there computers firing control is on there outer hull for some reason and there power works differently all there power to weapons torpedos cloaking and warp are all connected you do damage to there shields there power to fight back also weakens unlike Star Wars that you can take down there shields there still fighting with as much power as before and there armor is very sturdy unlike Star Trek ships that shake around way to much and again with there power connected to everything that's why some consoles explode

    I love your T shirt! Especially with what is going on right with the detention camps / tents across the US/Mexico borders! I like the way your story plays out. I think that after the first shot at the uss defiant with its star fleet officers would have hailed the other ship first before opening fire. Even if the Falcons communication systems aren't as advanced as that on the defiant , it could modify or respond to the falcons communication system right away in a way that they could communicate . I think Luke would have felt through the force that it was not an Imperial fleet because of the mixed presences of both alien and human races on the ship.Luke would have informed the Falcon's crew that could not be an Imperial ship because they only have human in command and any aliens presences on an imperial ship would come across as oppressed or hopeless not confident or as part of a whole of the ship's crew. Moreover he would have told them he did not feel the malice or hated that Imperials demonstrate to rebels and smugglers . Rather what he sense in Curiosity confusion and concerned for their safety not intend on destroying them . Liea being the skilled diplomat would have open communications and both ships would have stood down . Even if Han would keep firing the targeting system on Star fleet ships are far superior to star wars' they could have knocked out power to the falcons weapons, engines or power system and forced them to talk. Even with Worf in command a Star Fleet vessel would only destroy an unknown alien ship as a last resort . The Federation /Star Fleet is a peaceful entity that explores space and the unknown not a conquering one. In any case I think a star destroyer would start firing both ships and the defiant would defend the millennium falcon and maybe even bring him into their shield and activated their clocking Device to find out what was going on by speaking to the falcons crew as that would be the best chance of finding an answer to where they were and trying to get home. This would be the most peaceful/ star fleet behavior. Anyways i love the story and information your channel brings forth on youtube! This is completely unrelated but Ben your my favorite on this channel!

    The thing about Star Wars vs. Star Trek ships, their defense... it's philosophy of ship combat. Star Wars shields tend to be close to the hull and very, very strong. Star Trek shields tend to be a bubble that just contains the ship, sort of like the warp bubble. The thing is, Star Wars ships are supposed to take hits... a LOT of them... when things penetrate their shields. Star Wars ships tend to get massively damaged, often exploding when hit, when their shields are penetrated. I ran a GURPS style science fiction universe game that I allowed both philosophies in ship design when the players decided to build their ships. I also had the both versions of FTL travel available on top of other options. Oh, and the Millennium Falcon is a perfect modified over-powered freighter. In Star Wars, it looks like a mere freighter, something a smuggler could use to look like a mere civilian. However, it's OP gear make it more than a match for most military vessels that would menace a mere freighter. If that freighter hit a space-warp into the Star Trek universe, it would be immediately known via scanners as being far tougher than it looks. Star Trek scanners/sensors were godlike in comparison to Star Wars ones. And, Star Wars FTL, the "hyper jump", would be detected as either transwarp or short-term wormhole generation... possibly even "slipstream drive".
    Now that I am done nerd-vomiting... comparing vessels and other things of the two different universes is fun, fun, FUN! And thanks for doing mind candy like this.

There is also cannon evidence that star wars shields are pathetic. clone war era star destroyer shields were knocked off line in a few seconds. there was an episode of rebels where a group of star destroyers pummeled ground based shields they were not even powerful enough to kill an exposed jedi on the planets surface. there are several episodes of star trek that show phasers and torpedoes capable of decimating a planet in a matter of minutes Struggling to bring down enemy shields. once again clips were played of that battle. it's not like he doesn't do his research, he just kinda ignores the results

      An Star Destroyer has over 60 turbo lasers and the same amount of ion cannons. The Defiant was just heavily damaged by laser cannons. the Defiant would be obliterated by a Star Destroyer!

      Not if the defiant stays cloaked and moves at full impulse.
      They get behind the isd scan and then beam fully active quantum torpedoes in the right places and ether disable or destroy the isd.

    My favorite moment of this clip is the reference to the Husnak 400 GW bolt, because it puts a number there.
    I think that 1 straight shot with a torpedo would take down the Falcon, but a proximity blast from a Type VI or above torpedo would overload the shields. I don't think the Defiant could maintain a phaser lock on the Falcon long enough to do any significant damage. I think the Falcon's Quad Lasers would damage an unshielded Defiant, and the numbers imply the Falcon could eventually take out the Defiant's shields, but the maneuvering required to avoid a phaser lock or torpedo would render the Falcon's 360 coverage useless because it needs to manually aim. In X-Wing Alliance I used the Autofire option in the YT-1300 but there is no evidence that existed in Star Wars.
    Alot of people have pointed out over time that the imperial turbolasers can take out an asteroid and the original 1701 Enterprise could not, but the Enterprise refit torpedoes could. On the other hand, if you look at the X-Wing's attacking the surface of the Death Star it inflicts far more damage than the phasers in Wrath of Kahn. Supposedly the Falcon had military grade quad cannons which should be equal to or slightly less powerful than the X-Wings, in any event 1 or 2 *lasers* take out a TIE, 2-4 to take out an X-Wing (in the movies the shielded ships that weren't considered cruisers might as well have not been such as the Tantive, the Falcon, and the Fighters). So th
    Therefore I think the Falcon's beam energy is severely underplayed as is the Proton Torpedo damage (which depending on your source could take out a shield generator which is as big as the Defiant)
    Moving forward to the TNG era the shields are significantly more powerful and repel most of the damage done to the Enterprise during the series, except during Yesterday's Enterprise. One photon proximity blast at close range now can cripple the ship, direct hit can blow up a Miranda (Miranda being the same approximate size of the Defiant). The Falcon is able to roll about 5x as fast as the Defiant...it's about 4x on the pitch and 2x on yaw, so it can outmaneuver the Defiant. It's unrealistic however to assume it could creep in under Defiant's belly.
    As to the Photon's or Quantums vs the Falcon, everyone remember Star Trek VI where the Klingon Red Torp blasts through the Enterprise Saucer section but we don't see an antimatter explosion?
    I think the Star Wars shields are much stronger against energy but not so strong against physical impacts (with some debate after Empire Strikes Back shows a possible asteroid impact on the ISD Avenger). Tantive took one turbolaser hit and the main reactor went down. The falcon took one hit and 3PO says "sir, we just lost the main rear deflector" (implying there was secondary shielding to boot). Yet the ISD traveled through asteroid fields with shields down.

    The Galatic empire isn't known for close protection of it's capital ships. The defiant could do damage all day long to even the death star just by hugging the surface.
