This such a good video! I recently got a HomePod Mini and my smart plugs don’t support HomeKit and I was super excited when you said they could work with shortcuts but how do that?
Hey josh, thanks for your comment. To get the shortcuts to work, you’ll have to check the app of your smart plugs and find a siri shortcut option. Then add it to the shortcuts app and re name the Siri shortcut to whatever you want to say to get the smart plug to turn on and disable the toggle where it says like show when running. You’ll have to repeat this process to get the plug to turn off. Each app is different so you may have to dig around in the settings to find the option. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! 😊

Great video! Shortcuts are great. I also use the male voice for Siri, and refer to Siri as... “Siri” it’s funny to hear your Siri as male, but referred to as “her”

I just got my mini today and I can’t seem to find the setting for the Siri response tone...how did you enter those settings?
Hey Russell, thanks for your comment. To access the Siri response tone, press and hold on the HomePod Mini in the Home app, then scroll down and enable “Sound When Using Siri”. If you don’t see it, make sure the HomePod mini is running the latest firmware (14.3). Thanks for watching! 😊

My white mini should be here Tuesday. Adam, you've allayed one huge fear I had: that Siri had no response tone following Hey Siri. Think I heard this on 9to5 (I could be wrong) or macrumor's review and found t egregious if this would be the case.
Speaking of multi-users: would Siri understand non-english? My mom is under my Family group but she speaks only French or Italian. With her new SE she invokes Siri in Italian. Could she do the same on the HP mini?

Hey CescoCDN, thanks for your comment. Glad I could help! I'm honestly not sure if she can recognize multiple languages. If I had to guess, I would say no but I could be completely wrong. I did try saying "Hey Siri" in Spanish and she didn't recognize it so she might not recognize it in other languages. Thanks for watching and subbing! 😊

So it sounds like you really do need Homekit devices in order to use this Homepod. Siri Shortcuts is a good workaround but they are tied into your phone. Hoping to avoid changing some lights in my home since TP Link works with Siri Shortcuts. Still looking forward to get one of these but still glad Google and Amazon are sprinkled about my house. Thanks for the info.
Hey Anthony, to get the best experience with the HomePod Mini, HomeKit compatible devices are highly recommend. Siri Shortcuts work fine but not completely ideal. Thanks for watching! 😊

My favorite feature is used when I get in the shower and I realize the volume isn't high enough. All I do is say"Hey Siri, volume up two times." Then the volume goes up twice. Same works in reverse, "Hey Siri, volume down two times." My second favorite feature is when I'm getting dressed and I want the music to play in my bedroom instead of continuing in the bathroom. All I do is say "Hey Siri, transfer music from the bathroom to the bedroom" and the music will start playing in my bedroom.

You can also turn off family members alarms my son keeps leaving his phone on the kitchen at night so every morning his phone alarm goes off I just tell the HomePod to turn off his alarm

I found out that my smart devices work on 2.4GHZ Wi-Fi. If I switch my HomePod to that it doesn’t interact with my phone for stuff like calendar, reminder, etc. It has to be on the 5ghz Wi-Fi to do that.
If you have a mesh network or a router with one name that broadcast both signals, it makes the experience overall more stable

my HomePod has been going on in the middle of the night . we have four pods and the one in the kitchen keeps going on when we are sleeping. last night this happened 4 times and I have a scene set for them to all pause at bed time but it still happened. any solution for this problem of has this happened to you ?

Unfortunately Siri is always too loud for me, even though I keep it at the lowest volume 😖 That’s probably the only thing I like on the Amazon Echo better. Alexa/Echo will talk quieter or even whisper if I want her to.

I have three Wi-Fis in my home and when my phone changes To a different wi-Fi automatically my HomePod is unresponsive. Any solutions?

That volume adjustment is so useful, Alexa doesn’t even have support for that, so wow props to apple!

You can tell Siri on your phone to play a tv show or movie on your Apple TV. “Hey Siri play “name of movie” on “name of Apple TV”. Only works with phone Apple TV combo.

It controlled my Apple TV for a few days, but now if I ask to pause or play, Siri simply says “I am sorry, nothing is playing at this moment” (or whatever it says).

You can ask Siri to increase the volume by saying “Hey Siri, volume up” or volume 50% etc

I believe once you establish Sara as your wife, you can do that. And you can have her name as the contact but you can also set a nickname in the contacts app as ‘Wifey’. On your phone, say “Hey Siri, my wife is Wifey.’

Does anyone else have serious issues getting the correct device to respond? I can be 2 foot away from one homepod, yet one from another room can reply. Or I can literally whisper to my phone's microphone but yet my homepod will still reply. Their algorithm for deciding what device you want to engage with is terrible.

My apple 4k TV turns on my tv, so if I say “turn on Apple TV”, the HomePod wakes my Apple TV, which then turns on my TV. It works the other way around as well.

Everything Google assistant and Amazon Alexa been doing for years apple finally catches up still not as good as amazon and Google assistant Siri is still nowhere near as good
