Retired in 2018, I've been riding my Catrike Expedition since, with a smile from ear to ear.

you could not be more true. I came to cycle after seeing Lemond give everything he had in the TT at the tour and I was hooked. those years with a cycling tribe are some of the best in my life.

Great commentary George. Sunny/warm here in Florida. Hope you moved into your new home easily. I will catch up with you on my ride back this April. All of your points are spot on. I’ve met and made many new friends with my triking. Folks who are fabulous who I never would have had the opportunity to meet. Your point about price vs value is spot on.these trikes cost a few thousand dollars in a one time expense with nominal yearly maintenance costs. My golf club dues were many multiples of the cost and recur every year. I still play but play daily fee courses . Saves a ton of money. It has made me a nearly 69 year old kid. I love going put and riding all day.stay healthy and let’s get through this Covid chaos soon. Get vaccinated and come visit and ride Cape Cod with me this summer.

Ride on Mark. Enjoy sunny Florida. We are still unpacking boxes, lol. We will be on the lookout for you in April. You raised a very good point about the fees fir golf compare to the one time expense of trike and nominal annual maintenance. I appreciate all you feedback from day 1 from when I posted my first video. Your the MAN!

Thanks for a great video! My wife and I both ride recumbent trikes, and your 5 points are spot on. We are both 70, and continue our daily rides and summer tours. We are often stopped and asked about our trikes and invariably the first question is how much do they cost. When we tell them a dollar figure, often they walk away muttering too expensive. I've finally come up with an answer that's both honest and thought provoking. When they ask how much, I tell them, about 10 days in a nursing home...
    Ride long, and ride safe!

My thinking exactly. All about value, and at 66 with MS, it’s health over wealth. Enjoying my Catrike Expedition. 👍

When you talked about getting your first bicycle, man it took to back to that feeling when I got my first Huffy bicycle as a kid. I rode that thing until the wheels fell off, loved being outside all day exploring with my friends. I have a trike and an upright bent and love them both.

Hello & great video. One thing to add. I too got a bike as a gift. I rode all the time as you do. I even rode to work & I'm a mechanic. Thing is I've been afflicted with foot drop both legs This took my bike riding off the plate. While looking at videos I learned of Recumbents. I bought a Terra Trike Maverick. I ride all that I can & when not riding I'm thinking of where & when to ride

I had a similar conversation with a young person, last summer. They were balking at spending $1400 for an entry trike. I replied, "What is your health worth to you?" It gave the person something to think about, but they didn't buy a recumbent trike - yet.

Thanks for this segment. I went from an active, competitive sportsman to a semi-handicapped old man in a few short years. I had to do something. A recumbent trike got me going again. Still have a long way to go but am going in the right direction. I do wish there was someone to ride with and a better place to put in some good mileage. Oh well...will make the best of it. Looking forward to your next video.

I live in central Washington state. This part of the state is vastly different from the Seattle area most people here about. We have dry, hot summers and cold winters. We moved here from the west side and love it very much.

Great inspiration, George. Thanks. Have you thought about doing a walkaround on your trike, show why you clip in to prevent leg suck, show how you only brake on the fronts, etc. I think your videos are a nice gateway for people who don't know anything about trikes. You could also little things that non-cyclists don't know about, like how often you maintain your tire pressure, transporting vs. starting every ride from your home, flags vs. lights for safety for your road rides. Looking forward to you taking about trikes for transportation.

I just stumbled across your video. How glad I did. I haven't thought much about the reasons to ride a trike (my 559 is still on order-later this month). I've been on a bike for longer than forever (now 74). The saddle is getting harder and harder.😦 Looking forward to riding in my "lounger" and realizing all the reasons to ride that you mentioned. Thanks for the thoughts. Look forward to more videos.🌵🚲🌞

My first bike at 3 years old (never used training wheels) was freedom for me. Don't know how many times my parents had to take it away because I went too far! Been riding ever since though. Trike on!

I love and ride my 2 wheeled recumbents and enjoy your trike videos. Since you mentioned Dick Fosbury, I thought you might be interested in the book "The Wizard of Foz" - it came out about 3 years ago. Provides some good insight into the man and his methods.

I've been watching recumbent trike videos for close to a year now and I am ready to commit. There are plenty of bike trails in my area and I want to utilize them all. My problem is picking the perfect starter trike.

But why a recumbent bike instead of some type of two wheel bicycle? (I race Mountain Bikes, and road bikes.) I have to say, if I was going to ride a recumbent, it would be one like yours. I know they are capable of going fast. But to me a bicycle is easier to transport if you have to transport, a bicycle sits higher, maybe offering a little bit more safety... I don't understand the likeness of a recumbent bike, over a regular two wheel bike. Why, a recumbent bike? I'm not getting it. Is it just because they are different?

Enrique you bring up some good points. I think what appeals to me is I can ride for hours with very minimal body discomfort. I think what you’ll find is everybody ride Recumbant trikes for different reasons. I would love to ride some of the diamond framed racing bikes, your visibility is better and there’re faster. I think if you every road one like mine for 50/75 miles it would probably change your mind. Thanks for the comment!
